Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Soldiers of Night. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Sonic; Sega and a few others do.
Specter ran his gloved fingers over his helmet. The Nocturnus had gone on several incursions into hostile territory. He knew very well that this should be no different.
"Specter, we need to go." Shade called as Specter hummed and pulled on his helmet once more.
"I'm coming, Procurator." Specter said as he turned and started to walk out.
He hummed and then cracked his neck. This should be an ordinary mission, but from what he heard from Lord Ix?
This mission would change the history of their clan. Failure wasn't an option, not simply because it would effect his own personal honor… But because the entire clan depended on their victory.
"Did you forget anything you planned on bringing?" Specter questioned as his armor's voice modulator kicked in.
A former of physiological warfare their clan had decided to use. Specter didn't understand how it helped much when they weren't very physically imposing.
"No, I've prepared everything." Shade responded before looking down at her warp belt. "Remember, we will not be returning for a long time. Time does not function the same outside of the cage as it does now." Shade reminded Specter before she tapped said belt.
He tapped his own. The technology was new, a way to pierce out of this dimension and into another reality. It was experimental, it probably had quirks to iron out.
"Taking a piece of the Twilight Cage with us…" Specter muttered to himself as he sighed and vanished in a warp of blue energy.
He closed his eyes. Either he and the rest of Shade's unit would be in the other world, free to pursue their mission… Or it wouldn't matter and he would be free to explore the other side.
Specter didn't much understand this technology. He couldn't hope to. He wasn't one of the clan's researchers. He didn't create this technology.
But he had chosen to be part of this mission for the good of the Nocturnus Clan.
(With Shade and her unit.)
Shade landed in a tumble as she rolled down a hill. She flipped into a handspring and landed atop a rock. Her armor absorbed the blow as she turned and looked around.
Shade blinked for a moment before she turned and started to look around the new environment. Her training took over as she tapped on her armor to display a computer.
"Is everyone in one piece?" Shade questioned before turning back to look at the computer. "Status report!" Shade ordered to the rest of her unit.
She was greeted by lights on her computer, telling her the unit was intact. Shade gave a prayer to their ancestors that they had made it through the warp intact.
Specter popped out of another hole and landed in a crouch. He turned and looked around in disbelief.
"By the ancestors…" Specter said as he gazed upon their surroundings once more. "So, this is the old world?" Specter questioned as he turned to look at Shade.
Both knew very quick that they had made it. And if they didn't have an assignment to undertake? Specter felt like he could gaze at the brilliant blue sky.
"This is no time to be getting teared up." Shade stated to which Specter shook his head at the moment. "We have a mission to deal with." Shade added and leapt down the hill while looking up at her men.
Specter looked at the rest of the group before motioning them down the slope. He knew for a fact that there would be time to admire the rest of the world when this was over. He flipped into the air and landed in a clearing while looking around at the moment.
Specter brushed off his armor and nodded to Shade as he continued walking forward. He turned to his commanding officer at the moment.
"Do we have a plan?" Specter questioned Shade and ran through an armor checklist. "We do not know this world. What if we run into trouble? We do not know if they have warriors here more then a match for us. This world isn't the Twilight Cage." Specter pointed out while brushing off his armor.
Dust in any part of his armor was a death sentence, it could be clogging up a certain part of it or damaging something vital. He cracked his fingers and then turned to look forward.
"Should I preform a recon check of the permitter?" Specter asked and got no answer at the moment. "You know cautious is always good during missions. It helps keep you from doing something…" Specter started to say before he got a look from Shade that caused him to hum. He decided to stay silent at the moment.
It gave him far more time to think about the moment. That helped calm his nerves and plan about what to do next at the moment.
