"This. This is my life now. I have climbed upon this hill and now, I shall die on it."

Barry rolled his eyes, suppressing a laugh as he looked behind him. "Len, we've only been hiking for 20 minutes."

"We've only been hiking for 20 minutes he says." Was Leonard Snart's sarcastic reply back as he dragged his feet behind him, sweat dripping from his forehead as he finally managed to catch up to the elusive red speedster.

"How much further is this godforsaken grotto thing anyways?"

"A little more uphill, then it's all down, I promise." Barry chuckled, grabbing Leonard's hand in earnest as they continued up the marked hiking path though Opal City Preservation.

Given that everything was quiet on both superhero, Rogues and Legends fronts, both of them had decided that now was the time to get away from the city and have a moment to themselves.

While Leonard had been up for the idea of camping, given how many times him and Lisa had done so together (more unsolicited than on purpose due to their father either having friends over for poker or out committing heists), he wasn't planning on Barry dragging his ass deep into the middle of nowhere in the preserve with the promise of something amazing.

Damn his goddamn smile.

"Alright, you big baby, you can look down now."

Confused, Leonard brought himself out of his reverie quite quickly, eyes following Barry's hand gestures towards the bottom of the hill, where his eyebrows drew up in shock.

Sitting in the middle of a section of forest was a large waterfall and creek, a river running off the end of it towards the wildlife conservation part of the preserve tourists weren't allowed to go in unless they were in a police car or tour jeep. The clear water sparkled under the early afternoon sunlight and the rushing sound of liquid slapping against the rocks was a different rush compared to the noise of Central.

"Well, I wasn't expecting this." He wrapped his arms around the slightly shorter man, resting his chin in his hair. "Where have you been hiding this one, Scarlet? I never knew your back pockets were so deep."

Barry laughed, twisting to look up at his boyfriend with a grin. "Can't let you in on all of my secrets now can I, Cold? I've been saving this one for a while."

"Trying to rack up good boyfriend points, hmm?" Leonard had to joke, before starting to move when barry did, staying in step with him for once as they moved from the top of the hill down.

"Maybe I just like to treat the people I love out of the blue sometimes." Barry quipped back, shaking his head with a small smile as he looked around.

"When my father told me about this place, I honestly didn't believe him, but seeing it again since I was a kid makes me feel it was a good choice to come here."

Barry's voice seemed quite said despite the happiness he was projecting to cover it and Leonard picked up on it quite quickly. He knew talking about his father could make Barry sad, unlike talking about his own.

"Your old man told you about this place, huh?"

"Yeah." Barry turned to him, finally looking at him with misty, but well controlled eyes.

"This is actually the first place he ever took my mom before they got married. Their first vacation as a couple was here in the 70's, when it was barely established. It was a lot different back then, according to her. They brought me here when I was...like 4? I barely remember all of it, but I do remember bits and pieces."

He shrugged as they entered under a canopy of vines and perfumed trees, the flowers that covered their branches bright and colorful as the rest of the preserve.

"I only remembered it when I was going through my Dad's things from the house that Joe managed to keep and found the photos that they took in some old folder from his office. I wondered if it was the same as I remembered it and I figured since Dad took his first love here, I figured I could do the same."

Leonard almost tripped over his own feet when Barry called him his first love, but managed to stay uptight with a smirk, the tips of his ears rather red. "Very cute, Scarlet."

Barry rolled his eyes, but he knew Len had registered the compliment so he just smiled.

"Anyway, the waterfall is just up ahead. After that hike I just dragged you on from the camp, I think a swim is something we both need."

"You would be right, Scarlet. I could kick your butt, but cold water will definitely make up the debt you owe me for putting my poor aging body on the line for your pleasure."

Barry honestly didn't know how many times he rolled his eyes in a day since he met and started dating Leonard (according to Cisco, it was at least 15 times a day and steadily increasing the more time he spent in his presence), but he just answered with a "Sure, Len." before he grabbed his hand again and they walked up the rocks.

When they came back to Central, Barry would claim he didn't remember much after the whole waterfall hike given he was so tired, but then again, making out under a waterfall soaking wet before having sex in a tent didn't really sound that interesting.

Right?
