Love Is…
Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
A/N: Drabble because I felt like it, and realized I hadn't written any SanoxMeg in forever. …Enjoy!

"Hey, Kitsune."
She looked up from a roll of bandaging at the man lounging on a Western chair across the room. "What is it? Did you ruin your hand again?"
"Nah," he replied, shoving that hand into his pocket awkwardly. "It's doing all right. But I have a question."
Megumi tilted her head slightly, gazing at him in mild interest. "Yes?"
"What is love?"
The woman raised an eyebrow. "Well, Sano-chan, when a man and a woman love each other…"
He rolled his eyes and spit out a piece of grass he had been chewing on. "C'mon, Kitsune. Be serious. I know what LUST is. Hell, I feel it all the time." He fixed his darkened eyes on hers and laughed when she blushed. "I'm just playing with ya, Megumi. Now really."
"Well, how can you expect me to be serious when all you do is make fun of me?" she sputtered, turning back to rolling the bandage in a feeble attempt to regain her dignity and normal facial color.
"I'll be serious, I swear! I want to know what you think!" his tone was so pleading that she couldn't help but laugh slightly.
"All right, Sanosuke. But you have to promise not to tease."
He sat up eagerly. "I promise! Street-fighters' honor!"
Megumi walked across the room and settled in a chair facing him. "I'm not sure that counts for much, but—"
"It counts for everything!"
"—But I'll try to do my best, all right?"
Sano nodded and rested his left elbow on the table next to him, leaning his cheek on the knuckle casually.
She sighed and closed her eyes. "Well…love is…love is. That's all there is to say, really. It's not something you can describe. It's more of…a feeling. A feeling that nothing else can take away—not arguing, or fighting, or anything. It grips your heart in a very tight hold, and it can hurt, sometimes, but I guess that's part of the attraction. It's painful, it's wonderful, it's Hell, it's Heaven…I—what?"
He grinned at her. "Heh…you seem to know an awful lot about love, Megitsune."
She colored slightly. "Well, it's all second-hand…"
The tall man stood up, softly chuckling, and started for the door of the clinic.
"What's so funny?"
He half-turned and winked. "You're a smart woman. You'll figure it out someday. At least I hope so."
Megumi stood abruptly. "What? Figure out what?"
"Well, when you do, come and find me. I'll be waiting," he continued, seeming to ignore her.
"Sanosuke! Tori-atama! You get back here this instan—!"
But he was already gone, and his words were burnt into her memory.
Several minutes of fuming later, her hands flew to her mouth and her cheeks turned bright pink.
"Oh…!"
And while Megumi understood the meaning behind his statement, Sanosuke was standing outside the clinic waiting for her—the grin still on his face.
