Shadow Duel Part 1: Release the Archfiends
On a dark cold night, in a dark alley way, a young woman panted out, severely beaten as she crawled away from a towering man, wearing a black trench coat, matching color fedora and a grey mask over his eyes, as he slowly stomped towards her.
"Y-you already won!" she cried out, "Wh-what more do you want?!"
"It's not what I want." He replied with a deep booming voice, "It's what they want. And what they want is your soul!"
The large man pulled out what seemed to be the Millennium Puzzle; however, the signature eye was more demonic looking and looked like it was forged with black metal and had pulsing flesh veins. The eye slit of the eye widen and began to glow a sinister red.
"Wh-what does that mean?!" She asked terrified, "Pl-please let me go!"
She began to plead and bed the man, to no avail as the sinister light shone brightly, the woman let out a blood curling scream, the light dimmed showing the woman leaning into the building wall, motionless, with a wide eye blank stare. The man walked away from his work into the open street putting the Millennium Item away in his coat pocket.
"A young soul." He suddenly spoke, "That should be satisfying for now."
"No." a strange demonic voice spoke up, causing the man to wince slightly, "The mortal was weak. The soul was weak. I have told you; strong souls are needed to break the seal! Souls of those who fought dark powers before or those who show no fear in defeat!"
A sudden ringing came from his other pocket as he pulled his cell out, with the caller being named, "Contract" he answered the call and held the phone.
"What is it?" he slightly demanded, "Speaking. A new target? Duel Academy. I want more info when I arrive."
He hangs up and begins to walk into the city, "The hunt is still on. A new soul will be yours."
The next day at Duel Academy, many of the students were standing by a build board, looking at their own score, if they get promoted or not; in the Obelisk case, looking if they got demoted. Draco and his friends just entered the building, a little late, hoping it would have died down by now.
"Huh," Draco stated, "sorry guys, I thought an hour would be enough to let this all die down."
"We don't blame you. I saw how the entire dorm empty out." Mana stated, "It's like they want to see if they get promoted."
"Honestly, I don't care." Syrus suddenly said, getting his four friends to look at him, "What I mean is, if I get promoted, then ok I did good, if I don't; I just need to do better next time."
Draco smiled as he placed his hand on top of Syrus' head and rubbed him teasingly but also proudly.
"Glad to see your duel yesterday really boosted your confidence." He said, causing his little buddy to blush lightly.
"I agree." Bastion added, "It seem ever since, Mana gave you that Dark Magician Girl it turned your dueling skills completely around."
"Hey guys! Over here!"
Draco looked at the crowd seeing a familiar raven-haired Obelisk waving at them, walking to her, and slightly shoving stuck-up Ras and Obelisk out of the way, before Alexis finally spoke up, ordering the Obelisks to let them trough. Getting through the crowd, evening glaring at few of the Obelisk, sending the message "You're next" Draco sighed out before looking at Mindy and Alexis.
"Thanks for that you two." He said.
"I didn't want to sound like them, but there wasn't any other way." Alexis stated, "So, what took you guys so long to get here?"
"Draco thought the crowd wouldn't be bad if we showed up a little later then everyone else." Chumley replied.
"Yeah, turns out it is still bad." Draco admitted.
"Actually," Alexis stated, "This is the better half."
"It is?" The three first years asked.
"Yup." Mindy replied, "The Obelisk pretty much pushed all the Slifers and Ras out of the building, so that the 'Elites' could have the board to themselves."
"Too bad most of them are nothing but push overs." Draco replied, and loud enough to get pissed-off stares and growls from the Obelisks.
They looked at the board, to see their scores before Draco chuckled lightly as he spotted himself, Syrus and Mana.
"Hey, look at that." He said, "Syrus and Mana tied for the second best Slifer in the Dorm."
Syrus and Mana looked at the board seeing their names next to each other, "How did that happen?" Syrus asked.
Draco looked at their scores, "nearly scored the same in the written exam, and duel performance was a little all over the place, but in the end, put up a good duel." Draco read out loud.
"It seems your written exam was what kept Mana from the promotion, and for Syrus it was the Duel itself." Alexis pointed out.
"Wow." Syrus muttered out in astonish.
"Syrus and I are the both the second best Slifers." Mana added, just as astonish.
Draco looked above their names, not surprised to see his name on the top, "Hmm this is peculiar." Bastion suddenly said.
"What?" Mindy asked.
"It says, Draco almost made a perfect score on the written exam." He replied.
"Yeah, I'm not proud to admit that." Draco said, "After, helping Ms. Dorothy with her truck and ran non-stop to the class room, I was too tired to continue to exam."
"So how was it nearly perfect score?" Alexis asked raising a brow.
"I didn't answer the final five questions." He admitted.
"You left five questions blank?" Bastion asked, shocked.
"Hey, if you were in his position, nearly slept in, helped a truck up a hill and ran until you got to class would you have the energy to finish the exam?" Chumley asked the Ra.
Bastion thought about, visualizing the situation in his head, "Hmmm, I guess I wouldn't." he replied.
"Hang on." Mindy said getting their attention, "Promoted to Ra Yellow, but denied for personal reasons. What's that all about?"
Draco, looked at what was written and gave an amused huff and smiled, "Well, they took what I said seriously."
"About what you said after your duel?" Syrus asked, "That if Mana and I didn't make it to Ra you wouldn't go?"
"That's right, Sy."
After checking the scores, the six of them walked out of the main building, and Draco realized they were somewhat short one friend.
"Hey Alexis?" he asked, "I noticed that Jasmine isn't with you guys."
"Yeah, she was feeling sick." She replied, "We told Ms. Fortaine and she's taking a look at her."
"Well, that's good to hear." Mana said, "Hope she feels well soon and doesn't miss what Chumley has planned for later tonight."
"And what is that?" Mindy asked.
"He has some sort of ghost story plan tonight." Draco answered, "Something about mixing some of our Monster cards into a deck and the level of the card determines the scary level of the story."
"Oh man, that sounds like fun." Mindy said, "But, I'm staying in my room to help with Jasmine."
"Understandable." Draco replied.
"I… Have my own plans." Alexis said, a bit hesitantly.
"You do?" Mana asked.
"Yeah it's personal things."
Draco looked at Alexis with slight concern.
"You three are doing the Slifer Ghost Story Night." A creepy voice spoke behind the group, causing each and every one of them to yelp out and turned around, seeing Prof. Banner looking at all of them.
"Geez, Professor." Alexis panted out, "I felt my heart jump into my throat."
S-same here." Mindy added.
Syrus and Mana held each other before looking at each other blushing deeply before yelling again and jumping out of each other's arms.
"We have got to stop doing that." Mana said.
"Hard to do it when it's like instincts when we both get scared." Syrus told her.
"I'm not going to lie here," Draco said, "I swear I felt my heart hit my rib cage."
"I just saw my life flashed before my eyes." Chumley said, "And I'm boring."
Everyone slowly looked at Chumley and raised a brow, "What?" Chumley asked them.
"That's just something random to say out loud." Draco stated.
"I'm in on the Slifer Ghost Story Night." Prof. Banner told his Slifer students.
They looked at each other before sighing out. They went their separate ways as the Slifers headed to their dorm, Draco looked into the forest and froze in his tracks as he saw what seemed like a cape flowing in the wind as it disappeared in the trees.
"What the hell?" Draco thought to himself, staring at where the cape vanished.
"Hey, Draco?" Chumley called out, "What's the hold up?"
Draco shook his head looking at his three friends and professor, "Sorry about that, I thought I saw something in the forest." He called back.
As he walked back to catch up with the group his eyes darted back to where he saw the cape, "Kinbok. I believe I saw someone in the forest, wearing a cape. Send the Spy and Scout to look into it."
"Young Lord, I can't just send the Dragon Guards to look for something you think you saw."
"I saw the cape go behind a tree and didn't appear at the other side." Draco growled, "If that's the case it could be a wonder Dark Duel Spirit."
Draco heard a sigh in his head, "Young Lord, with all due respect, I cannot send anyone out." Kinbok replied.
"Kinbok, this is an order."
"we were ordered, by your mother, our Queen, to preserve our strength."
Now Draco was confused, why would his mother order the Dragon Guards to save their strength?
"When did she give that order out?" he asked the Captain.
"I can't answer that, Queen Saffira's orders." Kinbok replied.
Draco didn't continue the conversation, as he sighed out, he caught up to the Slifer group and made it back to the dorm.
"Alright, my Slifers." Banner told them, "I have a few teacher things to take care of."
Later that evening, down at the pier, Crowler stood there impatiently pacing, "I told him the time to be here, why is he late?!" he thought slightly angry.
A boat began to become visible as it grew closer to the island, Crowler suddenly shuddered as he hugged himself and rubbed his arms.
"Did it just get cold all of sudden?"
The boat came to a halt as a large man stepped off and walked up to Crowler.
"Are you the Underground Duelist they call Titan?" Crowler asked the man.
"I am." He replied, "You the one who has a contract for me?"
Crowler pulled a picture of the "target" giving it to Titan, "This is who you are to go after, I want him to be scared to the point he wants to leave Duel Academy." Crowler instructed, "He's a Slacker named, Draco Kaitos."
Titan winced as he started to hear multiple voices, repeating the name in anger, followed by chanting Titan to "kill".
"Very well." He replied, "I'll do it, but in my own way."
Meanwhile at the Slifer dorm, everyone was in the boys' room as Syrus just finished his ghost story, which only cause Chumley to hide in his bed, blankets over his body and head under the pillow.
"Dude, that was not cool." She quivered out.
"Still, not bad." Draco stated lifting the card Syrus drew, which was his Truckroid, a level 4 monster, "For a standard area level."
"Yeah, I guess I'm not good at the high-level stuff." Syrus replied chuckling.
"Alright, Draco it's your draw." Prof. Banner said.
Draco reached for the "Ghost Story" Deck, lifting the top card and turned it over for all to see.
"Oh, fuck." Mana gasped out, before covering her face.
"I would fuss at you for the languish, Mana. But I agree." Banner replied as his cat, Pharaoh was all puffed.
"Wh-what?!" Chumley asked not removing his head from the pillow.
"I just drew Zooruvhun." Draco answered, "A level 11 Monster."
"Yeah, I'm going to stay under here." Chumley called out.
Draco thought long and hard for his story before his face lit up.
"I think I have one." He said, "It actually happened a long time ago."
"What do you mean?" Syrus asked.
"I mean it was something I saw or I dreamt it." He replied.
Everyone gulped and Chumley whimpered, "Alright, I think I was six years old. I remember laying in my bed, when I suddenly felt a dark coldness in my room." Draco began.
Already, Prof. Banner held Pharaoh closely to him, Syrus and Mana were already hold each other, and Chumley was visibly seen shaking.
"I shivered in my bed, before I woke and saw what I thought was smoke, but it was cold. I then heard a voice, it said 'Soon, the seal will melt away, and it will be your fire that brings the Destruction to the world.' I then saw the cold smoke had a pair of sinister red eyes and a very evil grin."
At this point everyone, including the cat, were shivering in terror. Draco continued, "I never understood what that thing was talking about, but it kept repeating that phase for weeks, until the final time I heard and saw it. I felt like I couldn't breathe, like someone was strangling me or forcing all the air out of me, the voice spoke again, 'I have waited long enough! I no longer need your fire; I'll use your blood instead!' That was when I woke up screaming."
"A-a-and th-th-then?" Prof. Banner asked, terrified.
"My mother heard my scream, and comfort me." Draco answered, "I never saw that figure after that, I had almost forgotten about that nightmare. My mother told me the 'fire' the figure spoke of was the light we all carry. It wanted to extinguish it. But as long as I don't use my deck to bring harm to other for dark purposes, my 'fire' will never burn out."
Everyone sighed out, still shaken by the story, "W-well I don't think the story I was going to tell will top that." Banner stated.
"I don't think we can take another story." Mana replied.
"Y-yeah we- uh- we are kind of stuck." Syrus added.
"What was your story going to be about, Professor?" Draco asked.
"It was going to be about the Abandon Dorm." He replied.
This caught Draco's attention, looking over at the professor, "The Abandon Dorm?" her asked.
"Well, it's just about the dark mystery surrounding it." Banner replied, "But this was resent, I went there last night to pay respect to the students, and I swear I saw a strange figure standing in front of the dorm."
"A strange figure?" Mana asked, slightly shivering.
"Yes, and when I approached him, it was gone." He answered, "Well, night everyone."
After Banner left the room Syrus, Mana and Chumley finally started to relax, until Syrus noticed the look on Draco's face.
"No." he warned out.
"Syrus, I already made plans to go there." Draco told him, "I just never had the time."
"We were told to never go there." Mana stated.
"I'm going there." He replied, "Tonight."
Syrus and Mana looked at each other as Chumley whimpered from his bed. A bit later, Draco was already walking through the forest, holding a flashlight and looking at his PDA to make sure he was heading in the right direction. Syrus and Mana walked behind him, trying to talk him out of going to the Abandon Dorm.
"Draco, seriously we can't be at the Abandon Dorm." Syrus whined out.
"I told you guys; you didn't have to tag along." He replied, before his PDA beeped, he looked up and shined the flashlight seeing a decrypted building, standing in front of them.
"I guess this is the dorm." He stated, looking around as Mana did the same, slightly more scared, before her light shines on a little memorial, with faded pictures of students, except for one that seemed brand new.
"Hey who is this?" she asked getting Syrus and Draco to look at the picture.
"I don't know him." Syrus stated.
Draco looked at the picture before the hair style clicked to him, "Atticus Rhodes." He said.
Syrus and Mana looked at Draco, before he continued, "I looked into the missing students he was on the list." He explained, "However, the picture is new, like someone replaced it."
Suddenly a twig snapped, making Mana and Syrus scream out, and held each other again as Draco shines his light in the direction until the light shined on a pair of legs, panning up until the person was revealed.
"Alexis?" Draco asked, getting the other two to sigh out and calm down, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm the one that should be asking you that." She remarked, "This place is forbidden to all students."
"Then why are you here?" Draco asked her.
"The school knows I come here." She replied, walking to the pictures and placing a rose in front of one.
"Because of him?" Draco asked, "Atticus?"
Alexis spun her head and looked at Draco in slight surprised, "How do you know my brother's name?"
"from the Academy website." He replied, "I saw him on the missing list and with his hair being similar to yours I thought he was either your cousin or brother."
"So, what happened to him?' Syrus asked.
"No one knows." Alexis replied, "He was in this dorm when it was more of a special dorm for those who were excellent in duels from Slifer to Obelisk."
"A dorm where your blazer doesn't matter?" Mana asked.
"Yeah but one night, during their monthly gathering, no one came back. All that was left was their blazers and a card from their decks. What's strange the blazers were in one piece, like they were taking off and discarded."
"Has anyone tried to figure out where they went?" Draco asked, but got no answer as Alexis just looked away sadden.
"Anyways, you guys should head back to your dorm." Alexis finally spoke up, "I'll just be here for a bit longer."
Syrus and Mana were more than happy to begin leaving, Draco was more hesitant to leave, he did a little later before looking back at Alexis.
"Just be careful." He said, before walking away, feeling uneasy about the Dorm more so than before.
Alexis stayed out front of the Abandon Dorm, looking at the picture of her brother, wiping the tears from her eyes, before standing up ready to leave.
"I'm not going to give up Atticus." She said, "I will find out what happened to you."
Suddenly a hand emerged from the shadows and covered her mouth, causing her to let out a muffled gasp as she began to struggle only for her arm to be grabbed. Her eyes widen in fear as she held against a large body and looked up to see a very large man holding her.
"It seems that my target has feelings for you girl." He said.
"His target?! What the hell is he talking about?!"
"But first, you'll be setting the trap for this Draco boy." The man said before dragging Alexis into the Abandon Dorm, she tried to get free and let out muffles screams in his hand before both seemed to be consumed by the shadows of the dorm, before it suddenly flashed a sinister red.
Meanwhile, Draco, Syrus and Mana walked back to the dorm as Syrus and mana talked about being glad they were done with the Abandon Dorm, Draco however, still couldn't shake that something was off.
"Hey Draco." Mana called back, getting to look up, "Why are you slowing down?"
"I… I just have a feeling something is off." He replied.
"Again?" Syrus asked, "Is this like when you had a feeling with Mana's unfair duel?"
"This one is worse." Draco replied, before the wind suddenly kicked up rustling the trees, startling all three of them.
"H-hey did it just get cold?" Syrus asked, rubbing his arms.
"You're not the only one thinking that." Mana added.
The sudden wind and the cold air, just added to Draco's suspicions that something was wrong, and what truly confirmed his theory, a blood curdling scream that came from behind them. Draco instantly looked back down the back behind them as Syrus and Mana, huddle closely but didn't hold each other.
"Wh-what the hell was that?!" Mana shouted out.
"I-I don't know!" Syrus stated.
"No." Draco muttered before running back to the Abandon Dorm, both Slifers sighed out and ran after him.
They got back to the Abandon Dorm, panting out, Draco panning the flashlight around, before he spotted a card on the ground and hopped the fence to get the card.
"Are fucking us Draco?!" Syrus called out, then looked embarrassed.
"I'm with you Syrus. We can't go in there Draco!" Mana called out.
Draco ignored them as he picked the card up and flipped it over, his eyes widen as he recognized the card.
"Cyber Blader." Draco gasped out.
"What?" Syrus asked.
"The card it's Cyber Blader." He replied, "This belongs in Alexis' deck."
You don't think?" Mana asked, scared, "What happen to those other students happened to her, do you?"
Draco looked at the Abandon Dorm, and ran inside it, making his friends panic as they watch him run inside.
"Oh man! What do we do Syrus?!"
"I'm going to do something stupid. Mana, please stay out here I'll get Draco out of there!"
Syrus gulped heavily, before running inside the dorm. Inside Draco was in the center of the main hall looking around franticly.
"ALEXIS!" he called out, looking around for any sign of her, before he noticed the same cape from the forest, enter a room in the back. He ran after it, as Syrus sighed and followed him. Draco ran down a hallway until he spotted a stairway leading deeper into the dorm.
Syrus panted out as stood next to Draco, "Wh-what is it?" he asked, but Draco didn't answer instead walked slowly to the remains of what door was there and pulled a blazer off from it, an Obelisk girl blazer, torn in several places.
"Oh no." Syrus muttered "You-you don't think?"
"No." Draco said, "Alexis said the blazers were discarded like taking off, this was torn off.
Draco looked back down the stairway and slowly began to down them hearing the wood creak and crack under him, and motion Syrus to be careful. They slowly went down the steps until a loud crack was heard, both stopping in their tracks, before the steps under Draco breaks. Draco yells out as he falls down, the flashlight lands on the steps by Syrus' feet as he holds on the rails and looks down the hole, in terror.
"DRACO!"
Draco grunts and groans as he crashes through the stairway until he hits a slanted wall causing him to slide and crash into many objects. He groans out as he struggles to stand up, rubbing his head, he opened his eyes looking into his new surrounds, which seemed to be a hidden underground sacrificial ritual chamber, only a lit by some torches. He looked around the room before his eyes widen seeing on the opposite side of the chamber chained to some strange device sitting on the ground, motionless, topless, and eyes half open with a soulless stare, was Alexis.
"Alexis!" Draco called out, getting no response from her, "Alexis?"
Suddenly, a dark chuckle began to echo in the chamber, "She can't hear you." The voice spoke.
"What the hell do you mean she can't hear me?! Who are you?!" Draco demanded.
The owner of the voice emerged from the shadows, holding a strange object and wearing a Duel Vest over his trench coat.
"Her soul is trapped within my Millennium Pendant." The man replied, "Trap in the Shadow Realm unless you defeat me."
Draco's glare turned to confusing hearing his object's name, "Wait, Millennium Pendant?"
"You don't believe me boy?" the man asked raising it up about to use it.
"There's no just Millennium Item called 'Millennium Pendant'." Draco remarked.
"What did you say, boy?!" the man demanded.
"The Seven Millennium Items are; Puzzle, Ring, Eye, Necklace, Rod, Scales, and Key." Draco told him, "Plus the Items are made of a supernatural gold metal. That thing is black and has flesh veins."
"If this isn't one of the Millennium Items as you claim," the man asked smirking evilly as he held the item out, "then explain this!"
The item's eye slit widen before the chamber was filled with a sinister red light, Draco groaned out shielding his eyes, as the man laugh triumphantly.
"I can't believe you allowed me to do this!" he laughed, "Giving me the opening to use my Pendant!"
He continued to laugh, before a swirl of white and black flames erupted and consumed the light until the strange man groaned out and hid his item, he then glares over to Draco and gasped out in shock. Draco slowly open his eyes and looked at his arms seeing the white and black flames swirling around his arms, as he looks around, he sees the flames over his entire body.
"What the hell is this?" Draco asked.
"Titan you fool!" a demonic voiced roared, causing the man to yell in pain, and Draco slightly jumping from hearing the voice as well, "Your immature attempt to take his soul, has awaken his powers!"
"My powers?"
"Now, do what you were told! Duel him! His soul will break the seal!"
The man, as Draco now known as Titan activates his Dueling Vest as he did, the chains began to be pulled up, lifting Alexis off the ground and held her in the air, Draco gasped out and took a step forward.
"I would stay there if I were you." Titan taunted, "Unless you want her to become a servant to the Archfiends?"
Draco growled at Titan's threat, before activating his duel disk, "If I win, you will release Alexis' soul!" Draco demanded.
"However, if I win your soul is mine." Titan replied, "And to show this is a real Item."
Titan held his Pendant out before it shot out of his hand and hovered above the dueling, before a dark red fog began to pour out of it and then surround the filed and the two duelists, Draco looking around as he watched the fog surround them.
"What the hell?!" he growled.
"This is a Shadow Game, boy." Titan replied, "I told you my Pendant is a real Millennium Item. You'll find out what happens when you lose Life Points."
"DUEL"
Titan LP:4000
Draco LP:4000
"Since, I called the powers for this Shadow Duel, I get to make the first move." Titan called out drawing his first card, and smirked evilly, "I activate my Continuous Spell card, Hellish Summoning!"
The spell card activated showing an image of creature surrounded by smoke in a pentagram and the summoner of the demon, being torn apart from within.
"What the hell does that do?" Draco asked.
"I now summon Archfiend Soldier." Titan announced, ignoring Draco's question. A fiendish warrior appeared, almost looking like Summoned Skull but smaller, wearing a green cape and wielding a sword, as it lets out a sinister growl.

"What the hell are you talking about?!"
"Make your turn boy, they are looking hungry for a soul."
Draco drew his card, looking through his hand seeing Kinbok in his hand, but didn't see any other Guard in his hand until he looked at the card he drew.
"Alright, I summon Gahlot, the Dragon Guard Assassin, in attack mode." He announced.

Kinbok and Gahlot looked back at Draco before Gahlot hissed out, "Oh, those things are dead!"
"Young Lord, you do need an explanation." Kinbok said, "I swear to you, I'll tell you, when we banish these soul devouring demons back into the pit of the Dark World from where they came."
"Like that would be possible." Titan mocked Kinbok, getting the two Guards and Draco to look at him.
"What did you—You heard him?!" Draco asked.
"Just as you heard my friends." He replied, "I have gathered enough souls for the Archfiends to influence the world once again, and once you are defeated, the Archfiends will be released once more!"
Titan began to laugh out loudly and evilly as his two creatures began to shrouded in a dark aura.
