Disclaimer: I do not own Sofia The First!
A/N: Merry Christmas everyone! Time for my last cedfia-almanac story for the year, prompt: "Mistletoe". It's been a lot of fun, and I look forward to another cedfia filled year with you next year :)
(Sofia is 16)
Wassailia. Enchancia's most beloved winter holiday. A time for goodwill, family, friends, and wonderful celebrations. All over the kingdom homes, from the grandest estate to the humblest cottage, were filled to their brim with loved ones, eager to celebrate the wondrous day together. Their abodes perfumed with the delectable smells of traditional treats, and adorned with seasonal decorations. Including, the oh so beloved Wassailia candle.
Of course no one put as much flair into their holiday festivities as the royal family. This year's celebrations were particularly notable. Being the final Wassailia before the children completed their secondary education, and took their next steps in life.
"Happy Wassailia, Mr. Cedric!"
The royal sorcerer actually smiled at the salutation. The youngest princess, and his dear friend, approaching him. Her blue dress shimmering in the candlelight, and bringing out the sparkle of her matching eyes.
"And a Happy Wassailia to you as well, Sofia." Turning towards the window as he remarked. "No snow today. But I can certainly fix that if you wish."
She smiled, remembering the first Wassailia that he'd made it snow for her. A spell which hadn't been needed since, on account of all other Wassailia's following already featuring her favorite holiday weather.
"I'd love that."
He nodded. "Of course, that's not the only present you'll be getting from me this year."
"Really?!" her eyes lighting up. Though rare, the gifts Cedric gave her were always very special.
He grinned smugly at her reaction, "Yes, my gifts are quite wonderful. Aren't they?"
She giggled, "Well yes, that. But also because I don't normally get gifts from you."
He blushed, looking away sheepishly, "Yes well," clearing his throat. "I suppose considering my own experience in regards to such matters." remembering the unused pile of 'Kingdom's Best Sorcerer' mugs he still hadn't cleaned out of his workshop. "I'd hate to throw a gift at you that wasn't meaningful, and just add to the clutter and unnecessary bother in your life. So if I can't think of anything special to give you, well..." he shrugged.
She responded with an appreciative nod of understanding.
"B..but if you want! I could certainly put more effort into coming up with special gifts for you!"
Sofia only shook her head softly, before giving him a reassuring smile. "That's alright. I don't need a lot of presents anyways. Spending time with my family and friends has always been the most important thing about the holidays to me; and that includes you." Poking him playfully, and earning a grin in response. "Also, sorry for adding to the clutter in your life," giving him a mischievous grin. "But I have a present for you, too." Being the kind of person who did give a gift every Wassailia.
He chuckled warmly, "That, my dear, will most certainly not be a waste of space."
They savored in the sweet moment of their friendship, enhanced by the warm spirit of the holidays, when Sofia's gaze drew upward. Eyes widening for a second, before she started giggling. Demurely covering her lips with her hand.
Cedric raised a brow at her, "What's so funny?"
She pointed up and the sorcerer followed. His confused expression immediately dropping to an unamused one as he saw a sprig of mistletoe dangling above them.
"Really?..." he deadpanned.
Her chuckling continued. "You know what you're supposed to do under the mistletoe right, Mr. Cedric?"
"Yes, well, I certainly hope this is the only one hiding around here. I'd hate to be caught under one with Bailieywick." Earning another peal of laughter from her.
He shrugged, his good mood returning. Smiling slightly as he leaned down, offering his cheek to her. The princess raising up on her tips toes to plant a little kiss there.
The moment her lips touched him, a feeling, like a spark jolted through her entire frame.
She gasped softly, pulling back. Heart pounding as a new, yet exciting emotion for her dear friend started to bubble under her surface.
Cedric had felt it too, and he stumbled to find the proper way to react. Severely hoping that his cheeks weren't as obviously red as the burning he felt in them.
"Yes, well um..." clearing his throat, and placing a simple answering kiss to her forehead in an attempt to alleviate the tension. But only succeeding in making that unexpected warmth shoot through them again. Delightful tingles dancing all along Sofia's body starting at where he'd kissed her. "H..Happy Wassailia, Princess," avoiding her gaze as he took off to hide in the crowd (unusual for him). Leaving her standing there, utterly speechless.
"Sofia!"
Her sister's sharp whisper startled her out of her stupor. Turning she saw her approaching with a confused, almost reproachful expression. James at her side.
"Sofia, did I just see Cedric kiss you?"
"Huh! oh um...it was because of the mistletoe." Pointing up to the holiday sprig which was now dangling above her siblings heads. "You know...it's traditional." Trying to make her nervous chuckling sound casual.
"Yeah, Amber. Its traditional." James teased. Nudging his twin, before leaning over to plant a big smooch on the side of her head. The golden princess blushing furiously, and sputtering in annoyance as she swatted him away. Her brother chuckling heartily.
Sofia giggled at their antics. Feeling a little more at ease.
"Everyone!" Baileywick announced. "It's time to light the Wassailia candle."
"Ooh! Presents!" Amber sang, her and James hurrying over excitedly like the little children they once were.
Sofia rolled her eyes in amusement, and followed after them. Watching as her favorite Wassailia tradition proceeded. Filling her with the warmth and light it always did.
After the chorus of "Happy Wassailia!, and go ahead to exchange and open gifts. Her gaze moved to the tree, where she caught sight of Cedric once more. Who was having a little trouble relighting one of it's candles. Watching as a jubilant grin came to his face when he finally succeeded.
She smiled gently at the sight, that same pleasant feeling from earlier washing over her again, as she started towards him with her gift; and as he later fulfilled his promise to her, adorning the tree and ballroom with the sparkling gleam of enchanted snow fall. She felt in herself a greater appreciation this year for another Wassailia tradition.
A/N: This was another one of those, "in between friendship and romance" cedfia stories, tee hee. Hope you enjoyed it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
