The sun was getting lower and Danny found himself sitting in a tree. Harp was busy making a nest for them. Danny was worried about her flying due to her injury, and since birds have hollow bones, he was sure that Harp has them too. But Harp wasn't letting it bother her. She flinched a few times but kept working.

"Harp? Are sure you should be moving your wing like that?" He asked.

Harp kept working as she answers.

"I broke my wings a few times. My bones heal." She said, making sure the nest was big enough.

"But..." Danny started.

"Danny, I'm fine." She said, smiling.

Danny sighs. He looks down and saw some wolves circling the tree, thinking one of them will fall off. He didn't know how far the forest stretched, so it might take a while for them to get out. And he was running out of berries.

Harp place the finishing touches on the nest and sat down.

"Nest is ready." She said, happily.

Danny careful test the nest to make sure it could hold him. Once he knew it was safe, he steps into the nest, sighing. He then walks over and checks on Harp's injury.

"Hmm, it doesn't look like it's going to leave a scar," Danny said, taking the leaf off.

"What about your scars?" Harp asked.

"Um, what scars?" Danny asked, worried.

Harp blinks, wondering why he was hiding them. She doesn't like scars that much, but she knew there were stories behind him. She did remember that all harpies like to tell stories about their hunts that gave them scars. Humans must be the same.

"It's okay. Danny doesn't have to if he doesn't want to." She said, making him sigh.

Danny sat down and look up. The trees were blocking the sky, making it hard to see the first stars.

"Harp?" He asked, making the Harpy turn to him.

"Yes?" She answered.

"Can you tell me more about your ancestor? You mention that she was the first Harpy to mate with a human, and she hated them. How did that happen?" He asked, thinking he could kill some time by talking more about Harp's family.

"Hmm, Queen was different than most harpies. No one knew why she hated humans. Some say it was because humans took her parents before she hatched. Others say that she hated humans because everyone else did. But she carried her hate for a long time." Harp said, tapping the joint of her wing on her chin.

"So, how did she change her mind?" Danny asked.

"Well, I don't know the full story, but this is what I was told," Harp said and started to explain.

653 B.C.

Humans were are war, but not with themselves. They were at war with creatures of the skies, the Harpies. Both sides fought each other for their own reasons. Humans thought of Hapries are monsters and needed to be destroyed. Harpies thought humans were weak and didn't deserve to live. Both sides lost a lot of their kind. But there was one Harpy that was known as the Human Killer. Her real name faded from history, she was mostly known as Queen.

Queen shrieks causing many humans to look up in fear. She drove toward the humans, using her sharp talons to slice up the humans. One tried to stab her with his sword, but she flew up, causing him to stab his fellow soldier. Queen turns and slashes the human head from his neck, shrieking loudly.

Yes, it was a bloody fight. Queen always survives the fights. But little did she know, that one human would change her life forever.

Three months later,

Queen lays on the ground, badly hurt and bleeding. A few humans had pulled a sneak attack on her, putting arrows in her wings, making it hard for her to fly. The humans even started attacking her while she recovering. She was able to fight them off before getting away from them. However, her body went numb, and she fell to the ground, unable to move.

She could hear movement coming from the brushes and glares. If the humans came to finish her off, then she won't give them the satisfaction that she was scared, because she wasn't. However, she was a bit surprised to see a different human step though. He carried no weapons, only a basket of fruit. When he saw her, he gasps in shock.

"Well? Are you going to kill me?" Queen asked him.

The man notices how badly hurt she was and carefully walked up to her. Queen growls, warning him to stay away. But the man kept heading for her. He saw her injuries and started to think to himself.

"I'm not a soldier. Even if I was, I would never hurt an injured person." He said.

"Person?! Do you not know me human?! Your people call me the Human Killer!" Queen shouted.

The man looks at her before carefully picking her up.

"Hey! Put me down!" Queen shouted, trying to get out of his arms.

The Man ignored her and started to carry her through the brushes, just missing the hunters that were looking for her.

Later,

Queen was placed on a bed and was clean of her injuries. She made threats, tried to slash him with her talons, and even tried biting him. But the human didn't flinch, he just kept taking care of her injuries. He then grabs a bowl with some things that made Queen turn away from the smell.

"I know, I know. It smells bad, but it's to help you feel better." He said.

Queen growls at him before sighing. She hated being helpless. Her wings were broken and she was unable to fly. Doing her best to ignore the smell, she opens her mouth and lets the human feed her.

"ACK! YUCK!" She said after taking the first bite.

"Yeah, I had the same reaction." The Man said, getting another spoonful.

Queen glares at him before letting him place it in her mouth. Soon the bowl was empty, and Queen was trying to get rid of the taste. The man turns and started to work on something else. Queen lays there, keeping an eye on the human. However, she started to feel tired and couldn't stay awake. She soon fell asleep. She awoke sometime later and felt something covering her body. She looks down to see a blanket on her and the human sitting in a chair next to her, also sleeping.

'What is with his human? What does he want?' She thought, confused.

The man woke with a start and saw Queen was awake.

"Oh, how are you feeling?" He asked.

Queen turns from him, not wanting to answer him. The man sighs and shook his head.

"Wow, you're stubborn." He said.

"I don't trust humans," Queen said, keeping her face away from him.

"Why's that?" The man asked.

"You don't need to know!" Queen snaps, glaring at him.

"Look, I know you're a harpy, and you don't think very highly of us. But if you spend all your time in hate, you'll never look forward to your future." He said, confusing her.

"Future?" She asked.

"Yes, I know we are in a middle of a war, but why? Do we fight until one of us is driven to extinction? What then? Have the harpies ruled without any way to care for the earth? Have the humans ruled without any way to know what's up in the sky? We not doing each other any favors." He said, shaking his head.

Queen blinks. What was he talking about? The man sighs before pulling out a few more bandages.

"I'm going to clean your bandages. Please don't move." He said.

Queen glares, but follows what he said. What no one knew was that Queen had her own code. She may kill humans, but she leaves their hatchlings alone and doesn't attack those that can't fight back. So far, this man hasn't tried anything with her.

One week later,

Queen groans as she ate the bad soup, trying her best not to spit it out. She turns to the human, who was working on something she couldn't see. Some of her bandages came off, but her left wing was forced to remain stretched out. It tried out she damaged her wing far worst than she thought. Her wing was healing, but it had a stick that was tied down with strings. She had to keep her wing like that in order for it to heal completely.

Queen sighs as she turned back to the human. For the past week, he has been nothing but kind to her. She was sure that her people were looking for her, but he informed her that there was another group of humans fighting them off, thinking that the Human Killer was dead. She wanted to go out and help, but the man stopped her each time. She then accuses him of keeping her prisoner, but he stated that the ones that attack the harpies were just a bunch of people that were overly conflicted about their skills, and they never fought harpies before. Plus, they were bandits, hoping to steal and sell Harpy eggs.

Queen growls. Out of all the humans she hated, Egg Stealers were the ones she hated most of all! She wastes no time in killing those kinds first.

The Man soon stood up, turning from his workplace.

"How are you feeling?" He asked her.

"Better. Short of." Queen said, pouting.

The Man smiles and helped her to her talons.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"Come." He said, leading her towards the door.

He opens it and lets Queen step outside. At first, she thought there was a group of humans waiting outside to attack her, but she was surprised to see an open field with clear skies and some food she saw humans grow.

"I figure that you are a free bird. So, I thought some fresh air would be good for you." He said.

Queen walks around, feeling the breeze on her face. She almost opened her wings to take flight before she felt a pain traveling up her left wing. She lowers them and groans.

"Easy there! Let that wing of yours heal first!" He told her.

Queen sighs. This man was far different than most humans. He cared for her and helped her. He wasn't like the other humans that attacked her.

"What's your name human?" She asked, surprising him.

"What?" He asked.

"What's your name?" She repeated.

The Man blinks before smiling.

"Marcus." He said.

Present,

"Wow," Danny said, surprised.

"There's more, but it's getting late," Harp said, seeing the last of the rays die down.

Danny notices and nods. He then blushed as Harp undressed.

"Straw. Not good for clothes." She reminds him.

Danny sighs and starts to take off his clothes too. They put their clothes on a higher branch before Harp pulled down his boxers.

"HARP?!" Danny blushed, covering himself.

"Does Danny what straw in them after what happened last time?" She asked.

Danny saw her point and sigh. He places his boxers with the rest of his clothes before laying down. Harp lay in front of him, covering him with her wings.

"Good night, Danny." She said, pulling him closer.

"G-g-g-good night, Harp." He said, trying not to think about her naked body.

But he did think about something else. It seems that Harp came from a family that killed humans long ago. However, he wasn't going to let that past make him judge her. Plus, he was sure that there was more to the story. As of now, he might as well sleep. Even if the wolves didn't leave.

And ending here. So, Harp was still able to fly, but her injury made it a bit hard. Danny learned more about Harp's family, starting with Queen, the Human Killer. The reason her real name was lost in history is because I couldn't think of a harpy name for her. So I went with Queen. I'll come back to her another time. I plan on covering all the members of Harp's family, explaining how they meet their mates and their lives. Though, they will still be on their way to save Danny's family. Danny will go ghost, just not yet. Maybe when I have them reach the mountains, which isn't going to be that long. I say another chapter or two before they leave the forest. And the Harpies of Harp's flock still don't know that Harp is traveling with Danny. They think she is out hunting and must have spent a few nights in places that made for a good nesting place.
