Phoenix

She lifts her eyes up to the sun, having never thought that she would see it again.

Coming out of the darkness after so long gone, her eyes filled with tears.

Thank the gods!

I am home.

Home at last!

Looking out across the land she smiles.

How beautiful the land can be; so many take this sight for granted.

Never again, she thought, never again will I look at this world without joy and wonder.

I will never leave this place again. I am home, and the gods willing I will stay here forever.

She rises out onto the edge of the cliff, standing with the sun shining off of her scarred and tattered body.

Her white skin and long flowing red hair are a stark contrast against the mountains around her.

She rises higher and higher looking, for the entire world, like the phoenix she is named after reaching for the sun.

The Phoenix has risen from the darkest depths of the world, and she will never fall again.
