Prompt: The wind god and anubis' chaperone shu keeps them apart whenever they get too close. Through him the other Egyptian god find out about their relationship and forbid them from contacting each other. Nico becomes depressed and hades comforts him and attempts to cheer him up in various unconventional ways trying to be a good dad for once but nothing works. Eventually he has to go to the duat and have a talk with Osiris.

The wind-god Shu was stationed near the outer areas of a graveyard in New Orleans, his subject Anubis sitting on a bench at the gravesite. He'd been told to watch the young god based on his past mistakes with the host of Isis. However, after the curse on the past host of Anubis had been taken care of, she had left the Lord of Funerals alone, and Shu was beyond happy with that, seeing as he had never liked that particular girl.

He felt safer now that Isis' host was out of the picture.

The only thing he was worried about at the moment was the close friendship between Anubis and one son of Hades, Nico di Angelo. He didn't like how dependent the young god had become of the younger boy. He spent too much time with the demigod and was too happy when they were together. It wasn't that Shu didn't like the boy (he preferred him to the girl), it was the fact that he could recognize the look in Anubis' eyes as he looked at the boy. It was even more affectionate than with the girl.

Anubis was sitting beside the demigod, looking fondly at his Italian companion who was speaking animatedly, his hands moving all over the place, a big smile plastered on his face. The Egyptian god took his hand and moved it up to his lips, kissing it.

Shu frowned, that seemed overly affectionate for their friendship, had he missed something?

He couldn't believe his eyes when Anubis leaned over and kissed the demigod.

That settled it.

Shu stepped in and separated them, sweeping a protesting Anubis away.

Shu reported what he had witnessed to both Isis and Osiris, considering they were the closest thing he had to parents, and it was these things he was asked to watch out for.

Osiris had frowned and had called a meeting with Isis and Horus. They spoke for a while and decided to forbid the two lovers to meet. Osiris informed Anubis of their decision, to much dismay from the young god.

Hades frowned.

His son seemed very down as of late, and it was unnerving. Hades knew he wasn't the ideal dad, and he certainly hadn't acted as such when it came to his son, but he hated seeing him this upset.

As they were eating dinner, he decided to take the first step.

He sipped his wine slowly before speaking, "So, son. How are you?"

Nico sighed, "Fine."

Hades pursed his lips, "You haven't been as talkative lately, son."

The demigod looked at him and raised an eyebrow, "I'm not that talkative to begin with."

Hades sighed, "I'm just trying to make conversation."

"Well, maybe I don't want to talk right now!" Nico almost yelled, shocked afterwards by his outburst. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell."

"It's okay, there is clearly something bothering you."

Nico didn't reply.

"How about we do something together after?" Hades asked.

His son shrugged, "Sure."

Hades brought his son to the Fields of Punishment, handing Nico a box of popcorn.

The demigod looked at him with an eyebrow raised, "Why would we need popcorn?"

Hades looked at him and smirked, "What is a good show without some snacks?"

Nico didn't look convinced, "What show can we find in the field of punishment?"

The god of the Underworld looked at his son. What was he talking about? "We are watching the unfortunate souls get punished, of course."

His son gaped, "What the-"

"Just come with me, son. We'll get you over whatever is bothering you."

Nico shrugged, but followed.

Hades led the way to one of his favourite punished souls. It was a man who had sexually assaulted three young women and had died in a car accident a few years ago. The punishment for him was seeing shadows following him at every corner, seeing shadows in his peripheries and never finding anything when he turned to look. He was always feeling paranoid, never resting, only running around, trying to hide.

They both viewed the desperate man run around, his head swivelling from side to side, trying to find his followers.

Hades pointed as the man cowered in fear behind a boulder, "Look at him go, Nico! He looks pathetic." He looked at his son and saw him staring down at his untouched popcorn, his eyes sullen. "What's wrong, son? This is so funny, how come you aren't laughing?"

Nico looked up at him, "What's funny about watching a terrified man run around, dad?"

Hades raised his eyebrows, "I- I don't understand, it's so entertaining."

Nico flung his hands out, "Well, I don't think so."

The god felt his chest tighten, he really didn't like seeing his son so upset, "Well, how about we do something else?"

The demigod sighed, "I just- ugh. Fine, okay."

"Great."

Hades shadow-travelled them to an old battlefield.

Nico looked around, "What are we gonna do here?" His voice sounded defeated.

The god smiled, "There are so many soldiers lying beneath the soil here. Why don't we try and see who can raise the most dead in ten seconds?"

Nico shrugged, Hades took that as a yes.

He focused his mind and willed the corpses to breech the surface. He saw skeletal hands burst through the earth and pull the rest of their bodies up on the ground – what was left of them, anyway. After the ten seconds had passed, there were twenty skeleton warriors standing before him.

He excitedly turned to his son and was surprised. There were only three skeletons standing with him, and his head was lowered, his hair falling in front of his face

"What's wrong, son? I have seen you summon more than three before," Hades asked, moving towards the demigod, a hand raised to place on his shoulder to comfort him. Before his hand landed on his son, he saw the earth crack between them.

Nico's hands were clenched, his knuckles white, "What's wrong? What's wrong?!" He turned to look at the god. Hades could see the desperation in his eyes. "My god boyfriend has been forbidden to see me, but I don't know why! Those Egyptian douchebags just do what they want without any explanation! My dad tries to cheer me up in the weirdest way possible! But I can't do anything!"

Hades looked down at the ground where cracks were spreading from the feet of his son, the grass withering and turning black. Skeletons crawled up from the cracks, hundreds of them, as the shadows were pulled towards the demigod.

Then, all the anger left his son and he dropped to his knees, his body melting together with the darkness as he shadow-travelled away.

Hades reached out as he yelled Nico's name, but his hand closed around empty air.

He sighed as he watched the skeletal warriors drop to the earth. He had some Egyptian gods to yell at.

Hades stepped out of the shadows and into the duat. He was standing outside the Hall of Judgement, waiting for the guarding god to welcome him.

A young man stepped out, and Hades was surprised to see how much he looked like his son. The god looked even more surprised as his eyes met the Greek god's.

He bowed deeply, "Hades, what an honour."

Hades stepped forward and reached his hand out, "Please, don't be so formal. Who might you be?"

The young god shook his hand, "I'm Anubis, Lord of Funerals and guide to the Hall of Judgement."

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Anubis." Hades lowered his hand again, "Might I see Osiris?"

Anubis nodded and led the way into the hall.

Hades followed the Egyptian and soon found himself facing the two large scales with Osiris sitting stoically in his throne behind them.

He bowed courtly to the Egyptian god, even though he was of equal status as the other, he was still in his domain.

"Hades," Osiris nodded at him.

"Osiris," Hades replied.

The other god beckoned him forward, "Why have you come here, Hades?"

"My son, Nico," Hades started, not missing the way the Egyptian glanced at Anubis, who was standing somewhere behind him. "Has been very upset because apparently, his Egyptian god boyfriend has been forbidden to visit him."

Osiris sighed, "As you know, the Egyptian gods do not allow gods and humans to share a romantic relationship. So, Anubis and Nico are not allowed to be together."

Hades was surprised. He turned around and looked at the young god behind him, "You are Nico's boyfriend?"

Anubis looked beyond uncomfortable, "Yes, sir."

Hades felt his protectiveness for his son rise, but he pushed it down, now was not the time for interrogating his son's boyfriend, "He could have done worse."

He turned back to Osiris and saw that he was surprised.

"You approve of their relationship?" the Egyptian asked, his tone incredulous.

"Yes, of course," Hades replied. "Bear in mind that my son is a demigod, so he is technically half god."

Osiris didn't look convinced. He opened his mouth to speak, but Hades held up his hand.

"Anubis is your adoptive son, correct?"

Osiris nodded.

"Well, I don't know how it is here, but I treat my son with respect and support him." He paused. "Maybe you should do to."

Without waiting for any reply, Hades turned on his heal and nodded to Anubis as he left the Hall of Judgement, entering the darkness and shadow-travelling home.

Hades was sitting in his throne, speaking with Persephone.

Suddenly, the door to the room burst open, and his son came running into the room.

"Nico, what-" Hades started, but was interrupted by the demigod flinging his arms around his neck.

"Thank you," Nico said softly.

Hades was confused, but then he spotted the form of Anubis entering the room. He then smiled and embraced his son.

"Osiris changed his mind, dad," Nico continued as he pulled away and stepped down to stand beside Anubis, wrapping an arm around his waist.

The Egyptian bowed deeply to both Persephone and Hades, "Thank you very much, sir. I was very surprised that someone actually stood up to him I the way you did. I think it was the fact that Nico isn't fully human that convinced him to rethink his decision."

"I'm happy to help," Hades said, smiling at the couple. "Now go be happy, son."

"Thank you, dad," Nico replied, grabbing his boyfriend's hand and walking out of the throne room, smiling at Anubis as he went.

"Insolent children," Persephone said with a huff.

Hades looked at her and could see the tiny smile on her lips. He chuckled, "Yeah."
