Chapter five
The Dark Lord
Years had passed and my life only got better. My apothecary continued to thrive, my daughter and wife grew more beautiful by the day, and just three days after Rosie's second birthday Lily gave birth to my son, Harry Severus Snape. Harry was my spitting image, though he did, like his sister, have his mother beautiful emerald eyes.
I was so blessed to have such an amazing family. A wonderful, caring, supportive and beautiful wife and two amazing little children. We had a business, a nice home, my life seemed absolutely perfect.
My father used to always say that Murphy's law was a sure thing. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, and something went horribly wrong.
One week and two days after my son was born I felt my mark burn. I sense of dread washed over me I hadn't felt in years. I literally felt like I was going to be sick at the thought of having to face my former master. There had been rumors of his impending return, I had hoped they were just that, rumors. They were not. I had no choice but to go to him to ignore his call would have meant death not only for myself but for my family as well.
I didn't know what to expect, but seeing my former Master in his current state was jarring at the very least, he looked more monster then man, with no hair and a snake like nose.
Lily would later say that his image mirrored his soul. When The Dark Lord first spoke to me he had surprising enough praised me, using me as a in his words "true and worthy example of loyalty to the cause of blood purity".
Unlike many I did not run and hide like a coward nor did I bribe my way out of prison. I served my ten years of hell and I survived. I thought he would be displeased with me marring a muggleborn, especially one who has fought against him at one point, but he seemed to have no qualms with it as I assured him Lily was no threat, that she was loyal to me and no one else, he seemed to believe me for the time being. Of course Lily was my wife but she was her own person and I would never ask or expect her to bow to the Dark Lord. If it came down to it I would get them out of the country and make sure they were safe, but I prayed it never came down to that.
Immediately after I returned from the Dark Lord Lily suggested I go to Dumbledore, promising that he could help. I had about as much trust in the Headmaster as I did in Potter or Black had in me. I was nearly eaten by a Werewolf and he turned a blind eye.
"He can help, Sev. I know he can." She pleaded with me, tears swam in her emerald eyes.
I shook my head in opposition. "Lily…no one stops being a Death Eater. I don't have a choice!"
That did not go over well. First she gave me an incredibly nasty look just before sending an incredibly powerful stinging hex at me.
"Severus Snape! I will not allow this. Do you understand me? I will not put you back in front of that madman. I refuse."
She just didn't understand, if I refused him it would surely me death and not just for me but for her and our children as well. "Lily, please don't argue with me. I-
"What about your children Severus, your daughter and son. You want them to go grow up with the whole of the wizarding world knowing their father is licking Voldemort's boots." She yelled her tear-filled eyes ablaze with anger and frustration.
"Everyone already knows that!" I yelled my voice volume easily matching hers. "I was a Death Eater. I went to prison. I am a felon. Everyone knows that."
I expected her to scream back. To call me a stubborn ass, as she so often did. Instead she broke down. Her silent tears soon fell into uncontrollable sobs.
I took her into my arms desperate to comfort her. I couldn't stand to see her upset. "Lily, please, please don't cry."
"I can't lose you, Sev." She cried into my chest. "Not again."
"Shhhh." I slowly rubbed her back attempting to calm her. "It's okay, love you won't lose me."
"Yes, I will. Either I will lose you to evil or to Azkaban, but I will lose you."
I knew she was mostly likely right. If the dark side won I would be enslaved to evil once more, if the light won I would be sent to Azkaban again.
So I relented.
"Okay, Lily. I will go to Dumbledore."
A/N: Short but sweet please let me know what you think.
