Chapter Six

Professor Snape

A spy. I am a now a spy and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Oh Merlin what have I gotten myself into. Lily joined as well, or should I say re-joined. She had been a member during the first war, at least until she left Potter and then the country.

The Headmaster agreed to let us join and extend the protection of the Order to our family, but there had been condition to Dumbledore's offer. He was in need of a new Potions Professor, and had been for some time. It was an insane idea, I was the last person people would want teaching their children but he insisted and Lily, for some reason I never did fully understand, thought it a good idea. So, reluctantly I put my Acropathy in the capable hands of my assistant and prepared to teach dunderheads until the bloody war was over.

The up side, Lily would be on the staff as well. The Headmaster had convinced Madam Pince to retire and my wife would be taking on the role of Hogwarts Librarian.

It wasn't until after I agreed to this crazy scheme that I found out Potter would be teaching Defense against the Dark Arts that year. I was incredibly close to forgetting the whole thing for that reason alone and verbally expressed as much, but one "are you mad' look from my wife was then end of that idea. I just hope I could get through the year without hexing the arrogant dunderhead.

We moved into the castle just days later. It had been the first time I had stepped foot within its walls in nearly fifteen years. A rush of nostalgia flooded through me, and it wasn't all good. There were some wonderful memories within these walls, most surrounded Lily in some way but there were some horrific ones as well.

"Daddy, look." Rosie gasped in awe as she pointed to the moving portraits that filled the castle walls.

"I know." I smiled shifting her further on my hip. "The castle is full of them."

She giggled as she bounced on my hip. "Can I see big Squid daddy."

"The Giant Squid, honey." Lily corrected her. "And maybe later."

"Okay." Rosie replied her eyes still alight with awe.

"Lily?"

Out little family moment however was unfortunately interrupted at the sudden voice of James Potter. A low growl for anger exited from deep within my chest. I knew I would run into him at some point but I hadn't even been in the castle a bloody day yet! If just the sound of his voice made me this angry, how was I going to get through the year without killing him?

"James." Lily gasped in surprise as her ex-fiancé suddenly came around the corner into view, and he had his eldest son, James Jr. with him.

Potter look back and forth between she and I before finally asking. "What are you doing here?"

"Working. Didn't you know? Severus will be teaching Potions and I'm the new Librarian."

"N-no Dumbledore failed to mention that." Potter looked clearly annoyed which brough a tiny smile to my lips, or it did until his gaze shifted to my my children, first my daughter and then son.

"So, I see you two have gotten together and…procreated."

"Yes." I stated plainly. "Our daughter Rose and son Harry."

"Hum, this is my son James. He's just about to start his fifth year. He's excellent friends with Neville Longbottom, you know, and even made the Quidditch team for Gryffindor as a first year, youngest seeker in a century actually." Potter boasted, puffing out his chest. Great Buffoon.

James Jr. blushed. "Dad, please don't."

"You should be proud of your accomplishments, son."

"Yes, well I suppose arrogance should run in the family." I quickly shot back.

Oh yes, that was quite good. I watched Lily bite her bottom lip to stop from laughing, whereas Potter son just looked annoyed.

"Well, at least I have managed to become something in my life. I have won awards, and even have an Order of Merlin. My children can look up at me with awe. What can your son and daughter look to you for Snape, huh? What it's like to spend ten years in a soul-sucking prison. I'm sure they will be exceedingly proud."

If there hadn't been children present I would have hexed the living daylights out of him, the antagonistic little shit. But I refrained. Instead I made a simple just true statement before quickly leaving his infuriating sight.

"I paid for my crimes, Potter, and I have never tried to hide that, from anyone, and that includes my children. Now if you excuse us, we have an appointment with the Headmaster."

And without so much as a glance back my family and I headed to the Headmasters office.

A/N: Short but sweet please let me know what you think. Up next classes begin and Severus learned Potter Jr. Isn't quite as arrogant as his father and that Neville needs some serious guidance.
