Chapter 5
A Kanto Starter and Ho-Oh
Ash, Pikachu and Elaine have made it to Route 1. Currently the group is trying to find new Pokémon to befriend and capture. Ash was looking through the bushes while Pikachu and Elaine were listening for movement.
Just then two Pokémon zoomed by the group. It was a Pidgey and Spearow, both of which were badly injured. Ash rushed to the two and looked in the direction where the two birds launched from. Pikachu and Elaine did the same and readied their attacks.
The groups eyes widened, they saw a flamethrower heading straight for them. Ash ducked and the mystery Pokémon charged at the group. Ash caught the two birds in Poké Balls, to keep the knocked out Pokémon from sustaining further damage. Ash placed his bag on the ground and transformed into a Mew, charging into the trees where the attack came from. Elaine just stared at the spot her trainer was mouth agape.
"We'll explain later, okay." Pikachu said before running after his trainer.
Elaine shook off the confusion and ran after Pikachu. The two Pokémon arrived at a clearing where Ash was. Ash floated out of the way of a flamethrower, Pikachu looked at the source of the attack, squinted his eyes and saw a Charmander preparing to dished out another Flamethrower Ash used Hypnosis, which missed and then he tried again and this time it landed putting the Fire Type to sleep.
After the battle Ash finally noticed Pikachu and Elaine at the edge of the clearing. "Uhmm, hi Elaine. I was hoping to explain this to you slowly so you wouldn't freak out as much." Ash said and Elaine did the most unexpected reaction he had seen.
"That's... so COOL!" Elaine screamed. "My trainer is the Legendary Mew."
Ash released Spearow and Pidgey from their Poké Balls and said, "Why don't we treat your guys' injuries first before I explain who and what I am." Pidgey and Spearow were still very tired and didn't register Ash's presence until their eyes refocused. When that happened they immediately freaked out, they were in the presence of a very powerful Legendary Pokémon and didn't know how to act around it. Ash tried to calm down the Flying Types which worked to an extent. Ash sighed and asked Pikachu to bring Elaine and Charmander over so he can tell his story and heal their injuries.
Pikachu nodded and went over to where Elaine was and asked her to help him carry Charmander over to Ash. She complied and the two of them dragged the Fire Type to Ash on it's stomach, as to not put out it's tail flame.
After Charmander arrived Ash used Heal Pulse on the 3 injured Pokémon. Pidgey and Spearow looked each other over and once they found no injures, asked Ash to tell them his story. Ash complied and started to explain.
After the explanation the two bird Pokémon were shocked and a bit sympathetic towards the Mew. It was same for Eevee, as she also listened in on the story. All the pain he had to go through, all the fear he felt during the eerily quiet car ride towards the lab. It probably would have broken someone else's spirit if they were in the same situation as Ash. said Mew was looking over Charmander waiting for the Hypnosis to wear off.
It did just then and Charmander's eyes began to flutter open. The first thing he saw the Mew that defeated him. He sprang back up onto his feet and assumed a fighting stance, The Mew did not do the same. Hoping for a lucky hit Charmander blew a Flamethrower straight towards Ash. Ash used Protect and Elaine and Pikachu charged towards Charmander, wanting to repay him for trying to harm their trainer. But Ash stopped them
"Guys drop it." Ash said sternly. The two Pokémon stopped and gave one last glare at the Fire Type before walking back to Pidgey and Spearow.
"I didn't need your sympathy. I could've taken them both." Charmander replied coldly.
"Why did you attack Pidgey and Spearow." Ash said sternly. Getting a small glare from Charmander, but the Fire Type didn't want to further provoke the Mew so he answered.
"I was training to get stronger. I need to fight opponents, get stronger to prove to my previous trainer that I'm not worthless."
"Who was your previous trainer." Ash asked curiosity. Charmander explained it was a boy named Damian, and that he abandoned him in Route 1 a few months before Ash became a trainer.
"That's awful how could a trainer do this, their supposed to train their Pokémon, not abandon them because they were weak." Ash said anger filling his voice, but he took a deep breath and calmed himself saying, "Chamander, why don't you come with me? I'm a trainer and I treat Pokémon like Family ." Charmander was shocked, this Pokémon was a trainer, that's unheard of. But this Mew seemed to be nice and by the look of the Flying Types he attacked earlier Ash seemed like a very caring trainer so Charamnder decided to take the offer.
Ash smiled, floating over and an empty Poké Ball from his bag and brought it towards the fire lizard. The Pokémon hesitated but hit the button and was promptly sucked in. The ball dinged after a few seconds signifying a successful capture. Charmander was let out, stretching a bit before walking over to talk with Pikachu and Elaine.
Ash went over to the now isolated Pidgey and Spearow, as the two Flying Types where still a bit scared of Chamander. Ash asked them if they wanted to travel with him, in which the two agreed instantly. Ash then made camp, as it was already late into the afternoon. The camp was mostly just a campfire, courtesy of Charmander using his tail flame as a fire starter. A tent that was big enough to accommodate a maximum of two people or in Ash's case a Mew and 3 of his Pokémon.
After setting up camp Ash, who's still a Mew. Got a small cook pot and went over to a nearby river, as Ash needed water for a soup he was going to make. He came across it after 10 seconds of flying. He walked to the edge and filled his cook pot with water until he noticed a girl fishing in the same river he was at. She looked the same age as Ash, had orange hair, suspenders holding up her shorts and a yellow sleeveless top
Ash hastily grabbed the cook pot and started to fly back to the campsite. Ash stopped in his tracks when he was suddenly hit by a Hydro Pump. It didn't do any damage as the attack seemed to come from the river he was just at. Ash turned around and to his shock he saw a very angry looking Gyarados looming over the same girl he saw just moments ago. Ash reacted quickly, rocketing towards the Gyarados and using a Thunderbolt, one hitting the Atrocious Pokémon. It surprised Ash that the Gyarados was taken down with one Thunderbolt from Ash, but he wasn't complaining.
The girl was still waiting for the inevitable attack. Her eyes closed shut, not wanting to see the one thing she feared more than bugs. Ash meanwhile teleported back to the campsite grabbing a Poké Ball, some bandages and disinfectant, since it seemed like the girl had a few scratches and scrapes on her arms and legs.
The girl felt a soft paw touch her arm. She shifted back a few meters from where she and cowering in herself once again, not seeing that the Pokémon that just touched her was the most unimposing Pokémon there was in the Kanto. Ash breathed a sigh he expected this to happen but he had to help, it was just in his nature. So Ash tried again this time the girl looked at him. She blinked seeing the bandages and a bottle with the words 'medical disinfectant' printed on. She couldn't process what was going on, but she decided to accept the help from what she would assume to be a New species of Pokémon.
Said Pokémon started to slowly floated over to the girl, bandages soaked in disinfectant. She was lightly doused in the liquid, causing her to hiss in pain, but she endured and the Pokémon carried on with it's task.
After all the injuries were disinfected, Ash using Heal Pulse closed up the scratches, causing another hiss of pain from the girl. After that was done the girl, who said her name was Misty thanked Ash for his help. Said Pokémon waved goodbye to Misty before flying back to the campsite once again.
The girl was a bit sad that the nice Pokémon had to leave but she hoped they would see each other again. So she packed up her things, mainly the things she was able to salvage and headed for Viridian.
Ash, now back at the campsite explained to his Pokémon why it took him so long to get water. His Pokémon nodded in understanding, Charmander still had mixed feeling about helping humans but still understood why Ash did what he did. Ash then started making the soup. It was simple soup just some vegetables and a few Sour and Spicy berries. It wasn't his mom's cooking but it was still tasty.
Ash then brought out some homemade Pokémon Food from his bag and started pouring them into bowls. He also grabbed some smaller bowls and poured some of the soup into it. His Pokémon went over and the group started to dig into their food, Pidgey and Spearow were scarfing down the Pokémon food like it was the most delicious thing in the world, while Charmader had a pleased expression on his face, likely due to the soup being to his tastes, While Pikachu and Elaine were just enjoying the food. Ash was happy and went to grab seconds.
After dinner Ash returned all his Pokémon, except for Pikachu and Elaine, mostly because they wanted to sleep their Pokè Balls with Ash. After getting comfy in his tent Ash went to sleep, Pikachu and Eevee followed shortly after.
{Time Skip: Just after sunrise}
Ash and his Pokémon had just woken up, tidying up the camp and having a quick breakfast. The group set off once again, with Ash transforming into a human.
Ash wanted his new Pokémon move sets checked just to get an idea of what they should focus on, and that's exactly what he did.
"Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon. It has a preference for hot things. When it rains, steam is said to spout from the tip of its tail. This Charmander is Male with the ability Blaze and knows the moves Slash, Growl, Smokescreen, DragonBreath, Fire Fang, and Flamethrower." The Pokédex said in a robot-like voice. Ash was impressed at the move set, Charmander must've trained hard to get this far in just a few months. He then moved on to Pidgey.
"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. Very docile. If attacked, it will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back. This Pidgey is Female with the ability Keen Eyesand knows the moves Quick Attack, Sand Attack, and Gust." The Pokédex said in the same robotic. Ash again was surprised, Pidgey puffed up her chest in pride at the indirect praise that the Pokédex was giving her.Ash then moved on to Spearow.
"Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. Inept at flying high. However, it can fly around very fast to protect its territory. This Spearow is Male with the ability Keen Eyesand knows the moves Peck, Growl, Leer, Pursuit, Fury Attack, and Aerial Ace." The Pokédex said and like Pidgey, Spearow puffed up his chest in pride at the indirect praise from the Pokédex.
"Looks like we'll need to work on Steel Wing so you both can counter your Rock Type weakness." Ash said, both Pokémon gave an affirmative nod. Ash nodded also continuing their treck through Route 1.
After a few minutes of walking a storm suddenly started, Ash and his Pokémon were running for shelter under a tree. Ash sighed, just his luck a storm and it doesn't seem to want to end any time soon.
After some debating with himself Ash conjured up a Protect, which blocked the rain and started to setup his tent. It took a good few minutes but it was done.
The tent was situated in a way that the rain would avoid the door. Ash beckoned his Pokémon, gesturing to get inside and dry off. His Pokémon followed, shaking off the water from their fur, feathers or scales and went inside.
Inside Ash had a will-o-wisp floating harmlessly as a light source, with some soft padding across the floor of the tent, which was just his sleeping bag and blanket. Ash then transformed back into a Mew to take up less space in the tent and to keep himself somewhat warm without a blanket. The Pokémon and Ash were now just passing the time telling each other stories about where they came from and what they were doing before meeting Ash.
{10 Minutes Later}
The Storm had finally passed, Ash is now taking down the tent while his Pokémon were practicing their moves.
Suddenly Ash heard a telepathic voice. 'Chosen One! Where are you?' Ash didn't recognize it, the Mew closed his eyes and began sensing around himself, trying to pinpoint where the telepathy was coming from. He eventually found it, though it was in the sky above the clouds. He decided to send his own message to the mysterious Pokémon.
'Are you looking for, me? Or is it someone else?' Ash telepathed to the Pokémon. It responded by flying down, until it was visible from Ash's point-of-view.
It was Ho-Oh, Ash was surprised to see the Rainbow Pokémon so early into his journey. But then he thought about his conversation with Mew, he had to double check though.
"Miss Ho-Oh, what are you doing here." Ash said when Ho-Oh came into earshot.
"I came here to give you a Rainbow Wing. And this Poké Ball." Ho-Oh informed, Showing a Rainbow colored feather and a Poké Ball tied to a string on her neck.
Ho-Oh gave the items to Ash. Who was confused at the Poké Ball, but remembered Mew talking about him taking Mewtwo along with him on his journey, so he asked Ho-Oh if this was Mewtwo's Poké Ball or not.
"I'm not sure, Mew just said to deliver it to you." Ho-Oh replied unsure, as Mew did not tell her anything about what's inside it. Mew just said to give it to Ash.
"It's fine I'll check it later." Ash said putting the Poké Ball in his bag. "Do you have anything else you need to tell me about this Rainbow Hero thing I'm supposed to do?" He asked, wanting to be informed as much as possible about what he's supposed to do with the Rainbow Wing.
"That was everything." Ash nodded in understanding.
"I should probably get going now, don't want to be seen by anyone else. But see you soon Ash." Ho-Oh said. Ash waved goodbye until Ho-Oh was out of view.
"Well we should probably get a move on, we still need to make it to Viridian by sun down." Ash said to his Pokémon, who were still still recovering from the encounter with another Legendary Pokémon this early into their travels with their trainer. Ash transformed back into a human and put on his backpack and started walking down Route 1 again. Pikachu was the first to recover, catching up to his trainer. The rest recovered shortly after, also catching up with their trainer. And with that they were off once again.
