Chapter 8
A Secret Revealed and The Boulder Badge
Ash had just woken up, excited at the prospect of the Gym Battle he was about to do. His Pokémon were excited as well mainly Pikachu, Elaine, Pidgey and Spearow, as the 2 Nidoran were transferred back to the Professor. Charmeleon was also sent back, as the Professor wanted to see the Fire Type in action and also do some research on how Charmeleon beat a Legendary Pokémon as a Charmander.
Ash then began training his Pokémon, With Pikachu working on Iron Tail. Elaine was trying to learn Trump Card and Shadow Ball, getting a few tips from Ash on how to conjure up the Ghost Type energy. And Pidgey and Spearow were working on Steel Wing and having mild success in conjuring up the Steel Type energy
{3 Hours Later}
After 3 hours of training all of Ash's Pokémon, except for Shaymin and Mewtwo. We're ready to take on the Gym.
But just before he was able to leave for the Gym he ran into Misty again, who recognized Ash from their awkward 'first' encounter.
She decided to ask the boy about it.
"So... what were you doing staring at me when we saw each other in Viridian?" Misty asked Ash.
"Oh, uhm. It's just that I saw you in Route 1 before the storm hit and well..." Ash half-lied, trailing off at the end.
"I didn't notice you." Misty said. "Maybe I was still recovering from the Gyarados attack and didn't see you."
"Maybe, I did hear a roar." Ash answered. "Anyway, I think a proper introduction is in order. My name is Ash Ketchum, and I want to be a Pokémon Master." Ash then pointed to the Pikachu on his shoulder as"this is my Pikachu. He's the first Pokémon I befriended." Ash then pointed to the Eevee next to him. "And this is Elaine."
Misty giggled a bit at Ash's introduction, still she introduced herself. "Well, Ash. My name's Misty and I want to be a great Water Type Trainer."
After introductions Misty suggested they go to the Cafeteria to chat a bit. Ash accepted the offer and the two went over.
"So, are you gonna challenge the City Gym?" Misty asked. "Or are you skipping, you don't really have a Type Advantage against Rock Types."
"Yes I'm going to challenge the gym because I taught Pikachu and Elaine Iron Tail, plus I have an emergency Grass Type just in case both get knocked out." Ash answered Misty.
"Are you just starting out, if you are then that's a solid strategy against the Gym, trick them into underestimating you and then pull out a Super Effective move that catches them off-guard." Misty said impressed by the strategy Ash had for Pewter's Gym.
"Yes I'm just starting out, but I had help from Professor Oak and Gary with Type Advantages and the moves a Pokémon can learn." Ash answered and Misty was even more impressed, Ash had contact with the Professor Oak.
"Can I watch the Gym Battle?" Misty asked Ash, who nodded in agreement.
With that the two left for Pewter Gym.
{After a Short Walk to the Gym}
Misty, Ash, Pikachu and Elaine had now just arrived at Pewter Gym. It was simple in design, cut stone brick was the prominent feature of the Gym's design and a wooden double door that was big enough to fit a large truck into was the main entry point of the Gym.
The two then entered the Gym. They went past another set of double doors and were in a very dark room, with the only light source being a spotlight that illuminated the Gym Stadium.
Then the Spotlight turned to the opposite side of the field, revealing a teen with his arms crossed and eyes that were basically just slits. Then the teen spoke.
"My name is Brock, I am the Pewter City Gym Leader." The Teen, who introduced himself as Brock said.
"My name is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town, I challenge you to a battle." Ash introduced himself to Brock, who raised an eyebrow. he remembered that the League Officials explained that a trainer who goes by the same name was a Pokémon themselves, but he quickly disregarded any questions he had towards the topic, instead focusing on his Challenger.
Brock then explained the rules for the Gym Battle. The rules were that Ash could only use 2 Pokémon and couldn't switch during battle.
After the rules were set the Gym lights turned on and Forrest, one of Brock's siblings took the spot as referee.
And Misty had gone to the stands to watch the battle.
Ash brought out Elaine to start with and Brock chose a Geodude as his first Pokémon.
Once everyone took their places Forrest counted down to the start of the battle.
"3... 2... 1... Battle Begin!" He called.
"Elaine Quick Attack, into Trump Card." Ash said. And Elaine ran towards the Rock Pokémon with a burst of speed, while preparing her Trump Card attack.
"Geodude Rollout!" Geodude Complied curling into a ball and rolled in Elaine's general direction.
However Trump Card finished charging up and Elaine fired it at Geodude full force slowing down his Rollout a little.
"Elaine, Quick Attack again. This time into Iron Tail." Elaine complied disappearing in a burst of speed. Her tail glowed a bright silver and she promptly used the attack to hit Geodude back, which completely negated the Rock Pokémon's Rollout.
Brock and Forrest ran towards Geodude to check on it and both confirmed it was unable to battle, so after Geodude was returned to it's Poké Ball Brock sent out his Onix.
Ash asked Elaine to return and asked Pikachu to take her place.
"Are you sure you want to use an Electric Type against a Rock-Ground Type?" Brock asked Ash.
"I'm sure." Ash answered.
"Battle Resume." Forrest called.
"Pikachu Quick Attack and Iron Tail barrage." Pikachu complied disappearing in a burst of speed. His tail glowing a bright silver and hit Onix with a flurry of Super Effective hits.
"Onix Rock Throw! Try to predict where Pikachu will hit next." Onix complied, making his Rocky skin even harder and raising his defense. Onix got hit a few more times before hitting Pikachu with a Rock Throw.
Pikachu was knocked back skidding to halt in Ash's side of the Gym. The impact of the Rock Throw being worsened by his speed. Pikachu took a deep breath and steadied himself, disappearing again In a burst of speed, hitting Onix with another flurry of Quick Attack empowered Iron Tail's.
"Onix, use Earthquake." Onix complied, raising it's tail.
"Pikachu jump on top of Onix." Ash quickly countered.
Onix slammed it's tail onto the Gym floor, shaking the buildings foundation, but Pikachu had already jumped, avoiding all the damage Earthquake could've done.
"Pikachu, one last Iron Tail finish it!" Pikachu's tail glowed bright silver once again, doing a backflip Pikachu slammed his tail onto the Rock Snake Pokémon. Finally knocking it out.
Ash celebrated. He won his first ever Gym Badge. He was a step closer to his goal.
After the battle Brock gave Ash the Boulder Badge, complimenting the Trainer on his skill with training his Pokémon to combat their Weaknesses.
Misty had also come down to congratulate Ash on his win.
"Thanks Brock, Misty I appreciate the compliments, but Pikachu and Elaine did all the battling." Ash said petting the two Pokémon.
"We should probably go to Pokémon Center and have Nurse Joy look over our Pokémon before talking any further." Brock suggested, with Ash agreeing and Misty tagging along.
{In the Pokémon Center's Cafeteria}
After giving their Pokémon to Nurse Joy. Ash, Misty, and Brock were talking over lunch.
"So your dad left on a journey a year ago?" Misty asked Brock, who nodded.
"He kind off left me and Forrest to take care of our siblings." Brock said.
Just then Flint entered the cafeteria and caught the tail end of the conversation Brock, Misty, and Ash had.
Flint walked over to their table. Ash recognized him, with the others looking over at Flint's direction.
Flint took of his hat and pulled off the fake beard he was apparently wearing, which revealed an older looking Brock.
Brock stared at Flint for a long moment. Before standing up and confronting his father.
"I know I left you and Forrest alone to take care of your siblings, And I understand if your mad. I'll take whatever punishment you have." Flint said waiting for Brock to burst, but that didn't happen, instead he was handed a small notepad with information on how to take care of each of Brock's siblings.
"You should at least know how to take care of them." Brock said.
He then turned towards Ash.
"Ash can I travel with you on your Journey?" Brock asked.
"Why me though?" Ash asked.
"Because of your methods of training your Pokémon are somewhat unique and I believe I could learn a lot by following you." Brock answered. "And now that my father is here I don't have to leave Forrest alone with no one to help him."
"What about the Gym?" Ash asked.
"My father can take care of it." Brock answered.
"So this is my 'punishment'. Okay I accept the terms. Be sure to call if you have the chance." Flint said to Brock before walking in the direction of the Gym.
Misty who was quiet for the entirety of the conversation spoke up.
"Ash can I join you too?"
"Sure the more the merrier." Ash replied.
After getting 2 new travelling companies. Brock went to his house to grab his stuff and Misty went to her room to do the same.
{15 Minutes Later}
The group had met up at the edge of Pewter in Route 3. Ash had informed them that he had a secret he wanted to tell Misty, as Brock already knew what it was.
Ash asked Misty and Brock to turn around for a bit. They both complied and did as was instructed, turning around. Ash transformed into a Mew and informed Misty and Brock that it was okay to turn around now.
Misty was just wide-eyed not able to speak due to shock. It was the Pokémon that saved her or at least the same species. Brock was less surprised but still shocked to find that Ash was Pokémon that he couldn't identify. He thought maybe he would be a Zorua or Zoroark or maybe a Ninetails that could do illusions.
"Ash were you the Pokémon that saved me from the Gyarados?" Misty, after being able to speak again asked.
"Yes." Ash answered hesitantly.
Misty took a deep breath to calm herself.
"Thanks, Ash for saving me." She said in a genuinely thankful tone.
"You don't need to thank me. It was just the right thing to do." Ash said trying to deny the praise.
"So what kind of Pokémon are you? I don't recognize your species from the books in the local library." Brock asked.
"I'm a Mew. A mythical Pokémon." Ash replied. "There were some books on Mew in Professor Oak's study."
"Is it alright if I pet you." Misty asked out of nowhere, but Ash nodded and floated over to Misty. He plopped himself down on her hand and awaited the eventual petting to occur. And Misty did so as gently as she could.
"Your fur is so soft and your so cute in this form, Ash." Misty remarked.
Brock also came in and pet the Mew. "Wow your right it is very soft." He agreed.
After a minute of petting. Ash transformed back into a human and the group went into Route 3.
After a few minutes of casual conversation while walking. Brock asked Ash about his diet. Ash explained that before he was a Mew it was the same as any other human and after he was turned into a Mew. His preference switched to berries, but can still eat normal food. Brock that wrote down on a notepad, while also asking Ash if he would like try some of his Pokémon Food. Ash didn't disagree and tried some after he turned into a Mew again.
a little too sweet but other than that it's pretty good." Ash replied.
He gave a few pieces to Pikachu and Elaine, with both giving the same response as their trainer. Ash relayed the information to Brock, who wrote it down on his notepad.
The group continued on stopping at a clearing to setup camp, as it was almost night.
Brock was preparing food for the group Misty was training up her team, Ash doing the same. He also revealed that he had a Shaymin to Misty and Brock, to which both were shocked that Ash managed to capture it this early on into his journey.
After training the group ate along with their Pokémon, Each enjoying their food.
Then the group prepared for sleep, with Brock putting out the campfire and Ash and Misty returning their Pokémon. And with all that out of the way the group were now asleep.
