Death is a natural part of life with that knowledge you would probably be ready for it. I wasn't. One moment I was going about my usual routine like everybody else, the next I was gone, extinguished from the realm of the living. Stuck here in a place of absolute blackness completely unable to move or speak just me and my thoughts.
I wondered if this was purgatory, that God was still indecisive whether or not I belong in the burning pits of hell or the shining gates of heaven. Or maybe this was my punishment trapped here for all eternity. I didn't do anything evil in my life that warranted me to go to hell then again I didn't do anything overly good I only ever did the bare minimum to get by.
Congratulations you've been granted a second chance to live in a universe of your choosing.
Wait, what?
I said-
I heard you. Just who are you supposed to be god or something?
I guess you can call me that.
That's not vague in the least bit.
I have been called many names throughout my existence. God is just one of them.
What else-
Listen child I'm offering you a second chance considering your last life was to put it bluntly mediocre.
How do you know I won't be a lazy little shit like I was in the last one?
Do you want to die again?
Umm no dying was not fun.
Perfect then you have the proper incentive to live.
The voice sounded unusually chipper. I was already starting to regret this.
Too late!
Pick your universe now or be forced to spend the rest of your existence in this pit of Blackness.
Halo
Mass Effect
Star Trek
Dragon Age
Star Wars
Almost all of them were video games except Star Trek. Sorry Star Trek but my first choice is Star Wars. While I love Bioware Mass Effect and Dragon Age I prefer not to live in a universe with synthetics that are hellbent on exterminating all organic life or the potential risk of getting possessed by demons.
You don't want to live in a universe with demons but you're perfectly okay living in a universe where Sith Lords can devour entire planets.
Is that where you're sending me? The old republic?
I can neither confirm nor deny.
By not answering my question you realize it's basically admission.
Cheeky brat for that I'm sending you to the prequel verse.
NO! Anything but the prequel verse!
Hahaha just kidding I wouldn't send my worst enemy to the prequels.
Oh thank god.
You're welcome.
If it were possible I would be rolling my eyes.
Pick your character before I change my mind.
[Canderous Ordo]
Canderous Ordo, later known as Mandalore the Preserver, was a Mandalorian of Clan Ordo who fought in the Mandalorian Wars from 3976 BBY to 3960 BBY.
[Cad Bane]
Ruthless, cunning, amoral. When Jango Fett died Cad Bane took his place as the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy.
[Meetra Surik]
The Jedi exile after the Mandalorian Wars saved the Jedi Order from extinction and later aided Revan in the battle against the immortal Sith Emperor.
[Jabba's Rancor]
Jabba's loyal pet.
If Meetra Surik wasn't an option I would have an extremely hard time choosing between the two most badass characters in the Star Wars universe. Jabba's Rancor surprised me; it must have been placed in there as a joke rather than an actual character choice.
Actually you can become Jabba's loyal pet.
Won't my intelligence regress from that of a human to a Rancor?
I don't know. I assumed that with the gamer's mind it would help balance out.
You don't know? I thought you were the gamer system.
Yes and no while technically I can give a person the gamer's power. The gamer system would develop its own personality over the time it aids the user.
Personality? Are you trying to tell me it's alive somehow?
Not in the conventional sense you're thinking of picture it like an AI.
AI? Do you have to worry about it taking over my body and attempting to commit mass genocide?
No, it can't interact with the physical world, only aid you in becoming stronger. The worst it can do is give annoying debuffs if you fail a quest.
Okay good so I don't have to worry about that. I was tempted to select Jabba's Rancor just to see the look on the Hutt's face as he was eaten by his own pet. But no matter how funny it would be, I don't wanna spend the rest of my next life as someone's pet.
Canderous Ordo is a skilled fighter and a great military leader but where and when would I be sent? It could be in the middle of the Mandalorian Wars, his time as Mandalore the Preserver, or when he was a baby.
You can choose the age 6, 12, 18, and 24.
So I would be sent to the early moments of the characters life.
Pretty much this was made so players could take the time to level up and hone their skills.
Are you saying I won't gain a bunch of already leveled up skills or stats regardless of what age I pick?
Correct
Damn it! Alright Meetra Surik age 6.
You've selected the character Meetra Surik. This next part is optional but you can choose a trait. They can sometimes be benefits or flaws. The traits vary depending on your luck.
So it's a gamble. I hated gambling in my past life with a burning passion. It had less to do with people who are stupid enough to try it and the people who rig the games to extort people out of their money. Screw it if I want to survive the Star Wars universe I need to take a few necessary risks. Game roll it.
[Rolling]
[Psychopath]
You feel no remorse, guilt, or regret in your actions. You are easily bored finding enjoyment in the pain, suffering, and death of others.
Shit I hadn't even been reborn yet and I'm already well on my way to becoming a Sith Lord.
Don't be so pessimistic, this trait could be beneficial.
Oh really how could a psychopath be beneficial?
Meetra Surik had the force ability to create force bonds with her allies exponentially quick. Now when they die you won't feel their pain due to your lack of compassion.
Won't my lack of compassion prevent me from creating force bonds with others?
Plenty of Sith Lords could form force bonds with their apprentices and I'm pretty sure a great number of them were psychopaths.
You make a good point. So how many more traits can roll?
About three you've already used one so you only have two now.
Roll it.
[Sin of Wrath]
You have an extremely short fuse even something as small as a nickname could be perceived as the greatest insult to your name causing you to go berserk.
This is just great, psychopath and an extremely short fuse not a good combination in the Jedi order.
Whoever said you had to join the Jedi you could go off on your own and study the ways of the force.
As tempting as that sounds. I can't, the Mandalorian Wars are going to happen. I need the Jedi order to become skilled in later and at least have a rudimentary understanding of the force.
You make a good point and don't forget about the Jedi Civil War unless you can convince Revan and Malak not to go to war.
No way Revan made the right call going to war with the Mandalorians even if Mandalore was manipulated by the Sith. The Mandalorian Wars gave me another reason why I dislike the Jedi they claim to guard all life and yet they sat by idly while the Mandalorians razed entire worlds. The Jedi are far too rigid and stubborn, unable to change and adapt; it is what led to their near extinction not once but twice.
So you would go to war with the Mandalorians?
Yes, a thousand times over. Now are we going to continue to discuss galactic politics or are you finally gonna reveal my last trait?
Alright geez no need to get sassy.
[Force Prodigy]
You are immensely strong in the force marking you as one of the most powerful force sensitive in the galaxy.
Force Prodigy? Isn't that more of a perk than trait?
Probably but are you really gonna look a gift horse in the mouth? Meetra Surik was already pretty powerful now with force prodigy you can desmate entire armies with just the force.
I'm not gonna argue with you on that. Having the power to just raise my hands and annihilate them with force lightning.
Already thinking about murder people are you sure you weren't a psychopath to begin with?
Shut up and send me in.
Okay but let me warn you. You might feel a little discomfort.
What?
XXX
"OWW!" I screamed in pain. It felt like someone had inserted several screws into my brain with a sledgehammer. I scowled discomfort, my ass.
"Meetra, are you okay?"
I inclined my head to look at the young man. No, boy I had to remind myself I was no longer in my 20s but six years old. He was possibly only a few years older than I was. I took the moment to study his facial features. Dark brown hair matching his eye color. He wasn't bad looking either and yet I wasn't all that attracted to him. Was it because of the psychopath trait or that I was still a child and hadn't reached the developmental stages of puberty?
+1 INT congratulations for making a decent observation without the use of the skill observe.
[Observe] - allows the user to gather information about the target.
+1 INT I don't feel any smarter. Granted I didn't expect to gain knowledge all of a sudden but I was hoping to feel a little different or a rush of energy signifying my increase in stats.
[Observe]
Revan
Species: Human
Age: 10
Alignment: Light side
Level: 9
Thoughts about you - Concerned, wants to help stop your pain.
"I'm fine Revan." I assured him. Surprised to meet the living legend himself, I knew Meetra and Revan fought together in the Mandalorian Wars but I had no idea they knew each other as younglings.
"Are you sure? I can take you to a healer." He offered.
I felt my temper rise before pushing down. It wasn't even five minutes and I can already tell [Sin of Wrath] is going to be a pain in the ass to deal with.
"I'm fine." I stated evenly as possible slight irritation in my tone.
Revan looked skeptical, likely sensing the spike of anger. "If you say so. Knight Atris is in charge of clan Dragon so you better hurry contrary to what Jedi feel she hates students who are tardy."
It was like a bomb went off when Revan mentioned Atris. Out of every Jedi I could've learned from it had to be her, I would have even taken Master Vrook. She was the perfect example of everything that was wrong with the Jedi. The narrowmindedness, black and white view that the Jedi could do no wrong, hypocrisy and arrogance.
If that was my only problem I might actually be able to tolerate her but no there was more to it than that. She used Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma, fall to the dark side as an excuse why Jedi Masters shouldn't take more than one Padawan and the age restriction. My anger tipped over its boiling point when she went a step further and prohibited romantic attachments despite Ulic Qel-Droma returning to the light because of his attachment to his brother.
Exar Kun's fall to the dark side had less to do with his Master training more than one student and more to do with his lack of humility. If his Master taught him a lesson in failure and patience maybe Exar Kun wouldn't have been so obsessed with learning the dark secrets of the ancient Sith Lords.
"Meetra! What's happening?!" Revan asked worried and was that dare I say it fear.
Damn it! Feelings like fear, anger, and hate are unbecoming in a Jedi.
If you're having such trouble controlling your emotions then use Gamer's Mind.
[Gamer's Mind] - lvl.1 - Allows the user to calmly and logical think things through. Allows a peaceful state of mind. Immunity to psychological and mental attacks.
Duration: 1 hour
I activated it. The effect was almost immediate, feeling a soothing calmness wash over me.
"Apologies, I was just recalling a bad memory." I tactfully explained.
"Meetra If I could sense your emotion then it is likely the Jedi council did as well. You don't have to tell me but they are going to want an explanation for the sudden spike in emotions."
I really needed to find a better way to control my emotions or mask them so the Jedi were unable to sense my true feelings. It would be foolish to be overly dependent on Gamer's mind at its current level. Wasn't there an ability the Sith used to infiltrate the Jedi?
[False Aura of Light](DS) - lvl.1- Allows the user to mask their tainted force presence and negative emotions. Warning! At its current tier level it can only fool Jedi initiates.
FP: 500
Duration: 1 hour
I smirked. This was definitely going to come in handy but what was Tier level?
Tier levels are categorized into 5 terms Novice, Adapt, Expert, Master, and Prodigy.
So basically when I reach level 100 I will go from Novice to Adapt.
Correct Adapt can trick Padawans, Expert Jedi Knights, Master Jedi Master, and Prodigy Jedi council members.
I hummed in thought. If I want to explore the dark side of the force then getting False Aura of Light to the maximum level should be my top priority.
Quest Received: Wolf In Sheep's Clothing
You have taken your first step down the path of the dark side.
Difficulty: Normal
Objective: Get False Aura of Light to Prodigy 1 before you are a Padawan
Reward:500XP, Dark side alignment
Penalties: Exile or imprisonment, possible severing of the force.
Accept: Yes/No
It wasn't the Exile or imprisonment that made me hesitate but rather the thought of me losing the connection to the force. I doubt the Jedi would know what False Aura of Light is so long as I don't practice any dark side powers or decisions that reflect the dark side of the of the force I'm pretty sure my force signature would remain neutral neither light nor dark but for all I know Psychopath and Sin of Wrath could have placed me on the dark side alignment.

I was dirt poor but on the bright side I didn't have to worry about potential Exilement or expulsion from the order.
I clicked yes, accepting the quest.
"I will worry about the council later Revan for now would you direct me to Knight Atris."
