Chapter 44
It wasn't until a week later from the eventful meeting that Cora got the wind of Robin finally coming to New York the following night. Cora being the mother she is kept Regina out of contact from the Nolan's and even Ruben and Belle. She kept her daughter caged in still pressuring her to reconsider her decision about keeping the bastard child and consider marrying Emmett and start fresh. If not Emmett then there are many other suitors available that Cora thought were fit for her daughter and her perfect future.
Cora was only able to know about Robin was via Regina who had somehow still kept in contact with Kara Danvers, who was doing anything in her powers to help her daughter get out the mess or not get even more sucked into it. Regina had been feeling even more worse than before, her mother again dedicating her life choices was taking its toll on her again. She felt more sick than usual and couldn't help but cry herself to sleep every night hoping to get out of her mothers clutches anytime soon. She also didn't know what she was to expect from Robin surely he won't accept her and the child since he's already legally married to Marian. To him this was just a game to get the bigger prize. These thought broke her hopes even more for herself and her unborn child. She had tiny hope that her sister would help her but she should have known Zelena would never do anything that is against their mother's wishes.
She also couldn't help but think of what Cora wanted her to do if she were to keep the child, she would have to marry Emmett which she didn't know why and what was the point. She knew she would be capable of raising her child if her mother would leave her alone and let her live her life the way she wanted. But now that option started to appeal more to her but than again she couldn't help but feel guilty for even considering it since she would be doing something similar to what happened to her with Robin, using someone else for her own benefit.
Nothing about this situation of their was mutual.
Emmett had been distance from his parents for the past week. He needed time and seemed like he needed a lot of time now. He didn't even come back to his home office since the day Regina had left from there as well. He was staying back at his apartment in the city. So now everything was back to normal how it was before Regina except Regina wasn't there anymore. Emmett did miss her now that he thinks about how they were around each other but as quickly as he starts missing her he also remembers how they were both each other's biggest enemies at the moment. Yet she didn't feel like one. He was also terrified of what he would do if everything was true that Regina was carrying Robin's child. He loves his brother and would do anything for him but this seemed to make him feel anger and disgust at himself that his little brother would do something as such to someone.
The next day arrived quiet quickly for Emmett's liking. He's been wanting his brother to come home to his family for past few years and now when he is coming home for the first time after leaving, Emmett wished it was under different circumstances. Emmett just had woken and showered, he then quickly got ready to go to the office but in the middle his dressing up he got interrupted by his cell phone ringing, it took few rings for Emmett to just pick up the damn phone and shut the thing up.
"Yes Ruben?" Emmett said as he let out a sigh in frustration.
"Um..sorry to disturb you Em...but it looks like our guest is earlier than we thought he would arrive" Ruben spoke on the other side.
"Ruben get to the damn point, I'm already annoyed as it is" Emmett spoke into the phone as he continued finish getting dressed.
"I'm talking about Robin...and I can hear it in your voice that you're irritated at me for interrupting you"
Emmett ignored everything that was said after he heard his brother's name. His brother was already here, waiting here where? At the mansion? At the main company? He had to know where he was right now.
"Em! Em!?" Ruben yelled through the phone.
"Tell me where he is? Right now!" Emmett asked with urgency.
"He's in your office right now" Ruben replied.
"I'll be there right away" Emmett finished as he cut the call and finished get dressing to leave right away. When he was done he quickly grabbed his car keys and left out his apartment door.
After 15 minutes of driving and thinking of different scenarios of what could happen this morning Emmett was feeling anxious, this was not what he was expecting. He thought he would be more prepared as the day went on and would be able to have a proper conversation with his brother but now he felt as if there was no proper way of having this conversation at all.
After having his car parked, Emmett quickly went into the building and rushed over to his office as quickly as he could. After riding up his private elevator for few minutes, he ran past all the other employees ignoring their morning greeting and then he was now standing in front of his office door. He grabbed the doorknob and turned it to open it and stepped inside his own office with hesitance.
As he entered the first thing he noticed was his younger brother sitting on his chair, who quickly moved his head up from a file he was reading to look at Emmett, and his face lit up with a brightest smile. Emmett wanted to smile back and run up to his brother and just hug him but something was holding him back and that something was Regina.
Ruben quietly got up from his own seat and stood by the door close to Emmett who didn't even notice him, as he was still looking towards his little brother.
Ruben put a comforting hand on his friends shoulder and squeezed lightly. "I will leave you two alone, try to stay calm about this" Ruben advised as he stepped out the door and closed it behind him to give the two brothers privacy.
"How was the trip?" Emmett asked as he looked away and sat in front of his brother.
"Seriously bro, not even a 'hi' or 'how you been' just straight to business I see" Robin spoke with a smirk on his face. "Come on at least a hug between brothers is required after not seeing each other for so long" Robin suggested as he got up and opened up his arms.
Emmett as well got up and moved the chair to meet his brother's hug and hugged him. As they were about to let go of each other Emmett suddenly tighten his hold and spoke, "It's good to see you brother, I have missed you dearly"
"Same here, bro" Robin said back as they finally let go and went back to their seats.
"How are mom and dad?" Robin asked as he looked down and away.
"Robin….sigh….they are good and they miss you and want you to come home" Emmett said as he noticed the sad look on his brother's features.
"You sure about that? It didn't seem that way few years back when Dad kicked me out and mom couldn't stop him as always" Robin was feeling his anger come back again, "Besides they never made any effort to reach out to me like you did all those years so no I don't think they want me to come home at all"
"You need to let that go, Robin" Emmett advised again. He thought after these many years of being would have helped Robin change his views and his mind but it seemed like it didn't, the grudge was still there.
Robin let out a frustrated sigh and leaned back into the chair. "Okay enough about old talks, I am actually here to discuss something important with you bro" Robin spoke with excitement.
Emmett's attention perked up, "Yea sure-uh—umm- you can discuss anything with me Robin, you know that"
Robin gave Emmett a confused smile before he began again, "Well, I was thinking of join the company and learn to run it besides you but I know for that to happen we need to get dads consent for me to join" This was not what Emmett had expected at all, this was completely off topic of what he wanted to talk about and now he was finding it even harder to bring up the topic about the mills.
"Uh-Robin…before we do that or I do that for you, are you sure there is not something else more important you should be telling me and our parents" Emmett thought maybe hinting at the most important subject might help Robin open up about Regina.
Robin at hearing what Emmett said looked confused even more; his brother was definitely acting out of character today.
"Okay-and what is that something else that seems to be more important than what I just said because to me it looks like bro you are not out right asking me about it clearly so please do so" Robin spoke trying to clear up the confusion and change up of topics between them.
Emmett then looked at Robin and stared at him for a little while and let out a deep breathe and closed his eyes for moment and opened them again to find Robin still looking at him to ask him what he wanted to ask.
"How about we start with someone you have had the pleasure of meeting in small town names Storybrooke?" at the mention of the towns name Robin's eyes widen and his mouth was slightly open trying to say something but nothing was coming out. Emmett then gathered himself properly and glared at his brother.
"Why not we start with how you know Regina Mills?" and then Emmett noticed Robin gulp a empty gulp as if he was caught lying.
