Chapter 17: Predatory (Part 2)

Back with Arcee and Jack

Arcee and Jacket were exploring the forest, trying to find what the Autobot medic detected back at base. Right now, the human teenager was having a hard time, thanks to the blood-sucking insects.

"Ahg, really should have packed insect repellent, mosquitoes out here in this routine reckon are the size of vampire bats"

"Quite the outdoorsman, aren't you Jack?" Arcee joked with a smile.

"You wouldn't be making fun of the survival kit?"

"Maybe."

"I may not have stinger proof metal skin, Arcee, but in a pinch, I can use my multi-function pocket knife and magnesium fire starter to cook up some freeze-dried mac'n'cheese"

"You have your tools, I have mine"

She then looked at the scanner, which started beeping, "That's odd. Ratchet's satellite scans were accurate. But subterranean energon deposits don't cause this kind of surge."

They moved forward in the woods, coming across something that looked like a dried up river.

The two-wheeler's scanner started beeping again, only faster. That was when she saw some kind of ship.

"What happened here?"

"Crash landing. Stay behind me, low and close"

They then proceeded to walk down the trail. Once they got closer to the crash site, they hid behind the trees, just in case someone or something came out of the ship.

"Autobot or decepticon?"

"Can't tell. Wait here"

Arcee then transformed her arm into a blaster and walked towards the ship carefully. She took cover, then approached the entrance of the ship. She then slowly walked inside.

Moments later…

Jack was waiting patiently for his autobot guardian to get out of the ship. That was when he saw her getting out of the ship... However, she looked shocked.

(Flashback)

It was a dark room with very little light. Arcee was chained up by the stasis cuffs on her wrists. All she could see is this black, purple female Decepticon with six legs approaching an injured white-blue Autobot. He was chained up, just like the two-wheeler.

The female Decepticon hissed and without warning, she lifted one of her sharp legs and slashed the male Autobot's spark chamber. Energon gushed out of him and splattered onto the wall.

"TAILGATE!"

(End Flashback)

Jack then ran up to the two-wheeler, who looked like she was having a nightmare. "Arcee, what's wrong?"

"I know who this ship belongs to" she shook her head, as if she was trying to forget something while she contacted the base"Arcee to base, I need a ground bridge, asap"

However, there was no response from the base.

"Wait, why? Who's ship is this?" he asked, trying to find out what's going on.

"Base, do you read?" The only thing she could hear was white noise "Scrap, comm link's dead, ship's gotta be transmitting a high frequency scrambler pulse"

"Arcee? Okay, you're kinda freaking us out here!"

"Wait here" The two-wheeler told him, with a hint of an edge in her voice.

She then proceeded back into the trees, stopping at what looked to be a trail.

(Flashback)

Arcee feebly tried to break free from the cuffs, with no success.

The Decepticon approached her captive with her acid claw raised. Her dark purple optics filled with malicious intent while Arcee's optics were filled with pure fear. "NOOOOOOOOO!"

(End Flashback)

The two-wheeler shook her head, attempting to snap out of it. Jack then walked up to her, "Arcee?"

Arcee simply transformed to vehicle mode "Climb on!"

Not wanting to anger her and waste her time, he quickly got onto her vehicle form. The two-wheeler then quickly took a start, driving too fast and scaring the heck out of Jack. As she was speeding through the forest, they came across a massive crack on the ground.

"Woah, woah, woah!"

She then jumped over the massive crack on the ground and made a sharp halt after that.

The teenager got off of the two-wheeler while she tried to contact the autobot base again.

"Was that really necessary?"

"Arcee to base," However, there was only static, "Scrap!"

"A-Arcee, look, I've seen danger before-"

"Stay here. I mean it, this time."

"* sigh * Ok, first you shut me out, now you're ditching me?" Jack didn't like how Arcee was trying to push him away, "I thought I was your partner!"

"No, Jack, you're a kid. You're only here because this was supposed to be no-risk," She walked up to him and looked at him, "Got it?"

She then transformed and drove off. The human teenager, however, chose to follow her instead of just staying where he was supposed to be. At least, for a moment.

The-two wheeler continued to walk around the woods, hoping that distancing herself from the ship can allow her to access the autobot base so she can call for back-up.

Gun was out, just in case something, or someone, tried to jump her, and found a tall stump, covered in what looked to be freshly applied acid.

(Flashback - Cybertron)

Arcee was running through the battlefield while contacting one of her teammates, "Arcee to Delta Team. Requesting rendezvous coordinate. Do you read?"

A male Autobot responded. "Arcee, you lost again? Your sense of direction can use some improvement."

"So could your aim, Tailgate," Arcee replied, ""If you tagged that sniper back at the artillery depot I wouldn't have to break rank and engage the enemy hand-to-hand."

"Heh, I was helping out the blue wasp"

"How's BJ and Flora by the way? What's their status?"

"They're doing okay at another location. They're dealing with a few 'cons, but they're cool," Tailgate said before getting serious,"From the sound of things, I'm guessing you went ahead?"

"Try waiting up for me this time and I'll give you the play by play. What's your position?"

"About half a click from the depot due North… Think you can find it, partner?"

Arcee then chuckled while lowering her blaster, "Trust me, Tailgate, my navigation abilities are- AHH!" She was just about to say until she got webbed and pinned in the wall by an unknown decepticon.

One Moment Later…

Arcee found herself suspended in the air by stasis cuffs. She pulled against them and struggled to break free. But no matter how hard she tried, she was trapped and not going anywhere.

Arcee then heard the sounds of footsteps behind her. Then a cool, seductive feminine voice interrupted her struggles. "Piece of advice," She said as she circled Arcee. "Make yourself comfortable".

She stopped in front of her and walked forward, her sharp talon raised to Arcee's face. "You're going to be here for a while" She concluded sadistically.

She dragged her acid covered finger across her left cheek, giving Arcee a great deal of pain. One nasty, sizzling mark was left behind.

(End Flashback)

Arcee stared at the melted bark with horror in her optics.

...

Meanwhile… On the other side of the Woods

There was a camper in a tent, eating some food from his backpack. Unknown to him, something, or rather, someone outside of the tent was behind him. It was the same decepticon that caught Arcee years ago back on Cybertron.

"My first local… Time for humankind to feel my sting." The female decepticon said, transforming into her spider mode and quietly crawled towards him. Once she got close to the tent, she leaped out in the air, but a certain two-wheeler tackled her from behind.

The two-wheeler and the spider-bot went tumbling down a hill, wrestling and struggling against one another. When they reached the bottom, they released each other and Arcee went careening back as her back slammed into the side of a cliff. Meanwhile, Airachnid skidded across the ground before she stood up on the six, spider-like legs that sprouted from her back.

Arcee got back on her feet while Airachnid approached her, "Arcee… small universe" Airachnid said with a smirk, surprised to see the two-wheeler on Earth.

"Too small, Airachnid." Arcee responded while giving the spider-bot a vengeful glare.

"You're still holding a grudge? The war's been over for mega-cycles"

"Tell that to the Decepticons!"

"These days I travel solo. In pursuit of my new hobby."

The two-wheeler instantly knew what she was talking about…

(Flashback - Inside Airachnid's ship)

When Arcee walked inside, still unsure if it was an Autobot or Decepticon, what she saw next was horrifying. Dozens of different alien heads had been hung up across her ship, like some sort of sick trophy case.

(End Flashback)

"I got a look at your souvenir case." Arcee scowled.

Airachnid chuckled. "You mean my trophies? I collect endangered species. Of course, they're not really endangered…until they meet me, and I have a slot reserved… for human"

"Not gonna happen."

Easily, Arcee tackled Airachnid to the ground. However, she forgot about the extra hands Airachnid just happened to possess.

With one of her spider hands, she threw Arcee against the rock wall once again as she sat up, clutching her throat where Arcee had held her to the ground moments before.

Taking the open opportunity, Arcee unfolded her arm cannons and fired at her arch nemesis. Airachnid pounced from tree to tree, easily avoiding her shots.

She shot some of her sticky web at Arcee, tying both of her hands together. Immediately, Arcee began struggling.

She used the connection between her and Airachnid through the web to throw Airachnid to the ground. The former Decepticon yelled in surprise as she did.

Using one of the blades on her knees, Arcee slashed through the web and began firing at Airachnid once again. This time, Airachnid returned fire with her weaponized hands. Arcee avoided each shot.

She jumped high and grabbed a branch, swinging around before finally jumping to another tree. From that tree, she jumped Airachnid, pinning her to the ground as she held her cannons to her head. Suddenly, a sound disturbed her. Arcee and Airachnid both looked up in surprise.

"Jack?"

Taking her chance, Airachnid used one of her spider hands to push Arcee off of her. Then she fired more of the sticky web substance at Arcee, pinning her to the rock face. Immediately, she began struggling. But the web was too strong.

"Arcee!" Jack called out as he ran towards her.

Knowing what Airachnid would do once she put her claws on the teenager, Arcee unsheathed her left forearm blade and cut through the webbing holding her left arm. Once it was free, she shifted her arm into a blaster and fired at Airachnid.

The blast struck her in the chest and sent her flying back and hit the ground in a heap. She tried to get back up, but failed. For now, the sadistic spider bot was defeated.

"I thought I told you to wait for me!" Arcee reprimanded.

"Well, partners don't ditch partners!" Jack retorted as he tugged at a particular piece of web, only to have it stretch in his hands.

"Get this through your head. You're not my partner. You're a liability!"

"I don't believe you. I can see it in your eyes. You're afraid, Arcee. And you're never afraid!" Jack shook his head, knowing Arcee well.

(Flashback - Cybertron)

"You know, for an Autobot, your resilience is quite impressive. In fact, I'm guessing that no matter what I do to you, you'll never crack. Am I right?" Airachnid asked with a smirk, causing Arcee to glare at her, "That's what I thought."

the two sliding doors into Arcee's cell opened. Two Decepticon drones dragged in a fellow Autobot. He was beaten up badly. He was barely recognisable. And yet, Arcee knew who he was…

"Tailgate?" Arcee gasped in fear.

Tailgate only groaned as the Decepticons dragged him to a spot well within Arcee's peripheral vision. They placed the cuffs on Tailgate's wrist as the electricity sought for the metal. Tailgate groaned in even more pain as he was levitated by the electricity creating a link between Tailgate's cuffs and the roof.

"What have you done to him?" Arcee demanded in anger.

"Not much…yet. Just tell me what I wanna know. Or…well, you're a smart bot. I think you can imagine what happens to Tailgate next," Airachnid smirked.

"I don't know the attack coordinates," Arcee confessed.

Airachnid frowned immediately and started casually approaching Tailgate.

"I swear upon the All-Spark it's the truth!"

Airachnid chuckled again as she continued walking to Tailgate. "We shall see".

"No! Please!" Arcee begged her desperately as she watched Airachnid raise her claw and make the swipe, ending Tailgate's spark for good.

"TAILGATE!"

(End Flashback)

"You're right, Jack. I am afraid. Of losing you!" Arcee blurted, causing Jack to freeze in shock at the confession. Suddenly, they turned towards Airachnid, who started walking towards them after she got up from the ground.

"You sure have trouble hanging onto your partners, don't you? We both know what happened to Tailgate, and I heard about what happened to your other other partner, Firewing, after you pushed her and Blue Jacket away... But I've recently picked up some Decepticon radio chatter regarding the passing of Cliffjumper." The spider-bot tormented her.

First, Arcee looked down in regret. She knew that Firewing was killed by Darkmatter because she pushed her and BJ away after Tailgate was killed by Airachnid. She didn't mean for that to happen, but because of that BJ had to carry on that burden and once blamed her for Firewing's death when they reunited back on Cybertron. Not to mention that she still feels remorse for Cliffjumper, who died while saving Blue Jacket's life. Then, after that, she looked scared. She knew where this was going.

"At some point you really need to ask yourself Arcee… is it them, or is it me?" Airachnid stated, smiling in delight.

"Do you get it now? She's not interested in me. She hunts indigenous species. And she's on Earth! That means humans! YOU!" A horrified look came to Jack's face. "RUN!" She yelled at him.

Airachnid shot another layer of web at Arcee, trapping her once free arm and the rest of her body in another layer of sticky, sturdy web. Taking the opportunity, Jack ran for his life.

The Spider-Bot then approached the two-wheeler with dark glee.

"And that is why I now prefer to work alone. It's so sad when bad things happen to those close to you. But don't get me wrong. I fully intend to snap out your spark. And believe me. I will make it hurt. But that won't compare to the pain you'll feel knowing that I'm adding your human to my collection," Airachnid sneered before walking away.

"JACK!" Arcee screamed in agony.

Back with Jack, the human teenager was running for his life. He didn't want to abandon Arcee, but considering the issue, he had no choice. Also, he could've called the rest of the Autobots, or even Agent Fowler, but something was still messing up the cellphones and the comlinks. For now, he continued running.

"That's the spirit, Jack! Play hard to get." Airachnid taunted, getting excited about the hunt.

...

Arcee continued to struggle against her confinements. So far, they weren't getting off of her. And she was losing even more strength the further she continued to struggle. She screamed as she felt a memory flood her and she passed out.

(Flashback - Cybertron)

Arcee screamed in agony. Airachnid had slit Tailgate's throat cabling. He died instantly right before her eyes. The Energon cast-off from Airachnid's slit spread like wildfire. She lost the mech she considered a brother. She felt like crying her eyes out. And that want came even closer as Airachnid moved her claw closer to her own throat, ready to kill her the way she killed Tailgate… Until…

KA-BOOM!

Airachnid growled in frustration and made her escape while she still had the chance. Bumblebee ran into the room, unfolding his charged cannons from his arms during the process, with Cliffjumper following his lead.

While Bumblebee shot the Decepticon drones down, Cliffjumper worked to free Arcee. When he finished, she fell to the ground and Bumblebee ran over to help.

Together, Cliffjumper and Bumblebee began carrying Arcee out of the cell, being mindful of her legs and other injures she had sustained because of Airachnid's painful and inhumane torture.

"I couldn't save him! I couldn't save my partner!" Arcee sobbed hysterically.

(End Flashback)

"Jack… I'm sorry," Arcee sobbed as she came to, "I never should have looked back. I should have… kept driving."

With renewed determination, Arcee pushed harder against the webbing. When she finally put enough space between her and the cliff wall, she transformed into her vehicle mode and gunned it. Her back tires ripped up the ground as she pushed against the thick, sticky restraints.

...

Jack was running as fast as he could, but he was getting tired right now. However, he knew he had to keep going if it meant saving himself from that spider. He jumped over the log then hid under it, so he could take a break and most importantly, hide from Airachnid.

He then heard Airachnid stop and search the area for any signs of her prey. It was the longest ten seconds of his life. It felt like forever. When Airachnid stepped over him, his fear broke past the limits and reached for the stars.

Without warning, her head appeared in front of him upside down. "Hello Jack."

The human teenager let out a scream and stumbled to get up. He then finally got up and ran, with Airachnid just staying where she was. She then aimed her hand at him and tried to stick him on the tree with her webbing, but luckily, Jack dodged it.

...

Arcee finally broke free from the web. She hit the accelerator and off she went.

...

Jack, after running too much, stopped and hid behind a tree. He was thinking of a way to stop Airachnid from hurting him and Arcee. Immediately, he reached into his bag and pulled out his multi-function pocket knife and pulled out all of the blades.

"Oh, who am I kidding?" Jacked moaned in disappointment. He knew that he stood no chance against the spider-bot with the pocket knife. They were useless. Even if he somehow got a lucky hit on her, it'll only give her minor to no damage.

He then continued to run and saw the gap he crawled in and out earlier ago. Upon approaching the edge, Jack steadily scaled down the edge of the ravine. When reached the bottom he quickly and carefully climbed back up. As soon as he made it out, he continued running.

Of course, Airachnid was still following him and jumped over the gap.

"You're making this too easy, Jack. And I do not enjoy being bored," Airachnid remarked.

Airachnid eventually caught sight of her retreating prey once again. He was heading towards her ship. "Oooh" She smirked before hissing.

Running past the trees, Jack found himself in a familiar clearing. He looked up ahead to see Airachnid's ship. Seeing no better alternative, Jack headed in that direction, ran up to the front, and hid behind a support pillar for the ramp.

Jack froze as he heard the spider-like femme approach. "Now where did you scamper off to?" She asked in 'curiosity'.

Airachnid knew that he was hiding somewhere around her ship, but she decided to play along. She walked away from the area at first, expecting him to get out of his hiding spot. Of course, unknown to her, Jack isn't dumb. The spider-bot then jumped on top of her ship. Once Jack felt that she was gone, he got out of his hiding spot and ran inside of the ship.

"If you wanted a tour, Jack, all you had to do was ask," Airachnid said as she jumped off the top of her ship and entered her ship as well, "Did you spot the empty space? I hope you like it. It's where I'll soon hang your head."

But to her surprise, Jack wasn't inside the ship, he was in fact running along the outside of her ship and slowly slid down the miniature slope and heard a slosh. His show came into contact with something of blue liquid, the ship was dripping that all too familiar liquid substance.

"Energon," he said as he thought of a plan, he took out his magnesium fire starter to ignite a stick to throw at the energon.

"Jack?" Airachnid smirked from inside her ship and began running out of her ship.

Jack continued to use the magnesium fire starter to ignite the stick, with the spider-bot coming closer… And closer… And closer. After a few more tries to ignite it, he started blowing on it and a fire started and he threw the stick up at the energon from above and began to run away from the cybertronian ship when Airachnid appeared on top of the ship.

"Jack!" She screamed as the energon began to ignite.

The ship exploded, even though Jack ran far from the explosion, the force still knocked him back on top of the hill. He looked and saw Airachnid's ship go up in flames before his eyes. He sighed in relief, thinking that the spider-bot was no more. He then caught his breath and walked up to a tree, leaning on it afterwards. However, when he thought he was safe, something thick and sticky stuck to Jack's foot. He looked down to see familiar white webbing. He looked up, and to his horror, Airachnid was still alive albeit burnt and dented.

She fired another blast of web that slammed Jack into a tree behind him. The predatory femme jumped down from her position in the tree and approached the black-haired teen.

However, before she could do anything to him, they heard an engine revving, revealing it to be the two-wheeler.

Jack watched as Arcee pulled off a karate kick and a few punches. Arcee then kicked Airachnid in the chest so hard, she flew through the air, crashing into a million trees. When she skidded to a stop, she laid on the ground unconscious.

After that, she calmed herself down and turned her attention towards her human companion, "Jack! Are you okay?"

"O-Of course. Survival kit, remember?" Jack boasted as he pulled out his pocket knife.

While they looked at each other, relief that each of them were okay, they heard sounds of drilling. Airachnid was drilling into the ground, making her escape. Arcee immediately went after her, shooting from her cannons as she did. But when she reached the hole Airachnid drilled herself, she was gone.

"AIRACHNID!" Arcee cursed before sighing, "So much for closure."

"Now Airachnid is stuck here on Earth," Jack paused as he looked off to the ground. "I'm not so sure that's a good thing".

"I'm sorry you had to face my demons today. You were pretty fearless back there," Arcee complimented.

"Actually, I was terrified," Jack confessed, "Mostly for you"

"Ratchet, we need a bridge"

Once Arcee contacted the base, Jack saw a mosquito try to land on his hand. The second it did, he immediately killed it by slapping the mosquito.

"Need to get my partner away from any over-sized insects," Arcee commented.

"Partner, huh?" Jack smirked.

"Junior partner," Arcee corrected, "I can still pull rank"

Now... Back where we left off

Back at the Autobot base, Arcee told him about how her mission went with Jack, and he was mad and terrified at the same time.

"A-Airachnid?! Airachnid's back?! And she's on Earth?!" BJ asked in shock.

"Unfortunately, yes..." Arcee admitted, "And we both know that's not a good sign."

"Oh Primus... First Darkmatter, now Airachnid... Who's next to come back from our past?" BJ asked sarcastically, "Barricade? Flamewar? Slipstream?!"

The two-wheeler then gently put her hand on his shoulder, "It's okay, BJ. We'll come through like we always do," She then leaned in and gently kissed his cheek, making him jolted.

"U-Uhhh" BJ stuttered a few words, "D-Did you just-?"

"I'll see you later," She was about to leave until she gave him a gentle glare, "Also, not a peep of what I just did." She then left, leaving Blue Jacket alone, who was standing like an idiot after she kissed his cheek.

'D-Did she just kissed me on the cheek?!' He told himself.

Outer Space - At the Decepticon Warship

The Decepticons were doing their usual things; talking about the Autobots, how they don't like the humans, etc. Makeshift returned to the ship and told Starscream about the same incident that Slashmark and Roadkill told him. The only difference was what the shadow decepticon told him. He told him that he just saved Bumblebee and Arcee from the mercs. MS thought Screamer would be upset, but surprisingly (in Makeshift's opinion), Starscream shrugged it aside. Besides, the only reason he was happy that he's back was so that he could tell him the location of the Autobot Base. However, when Makeshift tried but couldn't remember. The Leader was enraged and called out the medic team after Makeshift left the main room.

They told him that Makeshift somehow lost the location of the Autobot Base, and Screamer wasn't happy at all.

"What do you mean he lost the location of the Autobot Base?!" Starscream screamed at the Decepticon medic and his assistants, "You and Roadkill upgraded him after he was repaired, didn't you?!"

"We did upgraded him," Knockout said, "However, either you rushed him to be fixed up by the Vehicons while we weren't here, or that you left an important thing."

"Sounds something Screamer would do," Roadkill remarked, "Always trying to one-up Megatron."

Starscream then scoffed, "Hmph, the vehicons are well-trained. I'm sure they could handle fixing a decepticon, like how they fixed themselves."

"Really now?!" Stella asked, clearly upset of what Starscream just said. She wasn't the only one upset as well. Behind her was Steve and Rootwing.

"Yeah, we did the best we could to fix him, and his memory processor would've worked, if someone didn't stepped on it!" Steve said, yelling and glaring at Rootwing.

"I said I was sorry!" Rootwing reminded him before turning to Starscream's attention, "Also, you were the one that sent Makeshift to his doom the first time!"

...

(Flashback - Last Month)

When Wheeljack and Blowout came to visit on Earth, the Decepticon had, once again, hatched another scheme to destroy the Autobots for good. While they've captured Wheeljack and had Makeshift (who took the the appearance of wheeljack, literary) take his place, they didn't captured Blowout. Later on, Makeshift was found out and the Autobots fought to save their human allies and their autobot base. After that, they threw him out of the base by using the fixed Ground-Bridge.

At the Decepticon ship, the GroundBridge portal closed, preventing any access to Autobot Outpost Omega One. Starscream was furious at yet another lost chance to hit the Autobots in the security of their own base. But he still remembered one thing.

"Please tell me that you at least learned the location of their base," Starscream begged.

"Indeed, Lord Starscream. It is in a hidden bunker just outside of-."

Makeshift's explanation was cut off by the familiar yet annoying beeping sound. Starscream glanced at the bomb that was attached to Makeshift's hip. He observed that it showed off multiple vibrant colors, clashing against the dull grey design of the hand grenade.

"Whoa! Back! Back! BACK!" Starscream instructed as everyone ran off.

Makeshift continued to stand where he stood, wanting to know what they were talking about. However, when he did realize what was going on, it was too late for anyone to do anything.

"Oh no."

Those were the last words of Makeshift before the bomb exploded, destroying himself and any Decepticon who stood too close.

"MAKESHIFT! YOU FOOL!"

(Flashback End)

...

"So the way I see it, that's your fault!" Rootwing finished.

Whatever he was about to said next, that really got to Starscream. The silver seeker grabbed him by the throat and extended his claws. He was about to offline him the same way he did to the deceased Cliffjumper. Before he could, however, Soundwave halted his actions.

"Soundwave, what is it?! Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?!" Starscream... well, screamed. He was very upset that the silent 'Con stopped him from punishing a disrespecting follower.

Soundwave pointed at the damaged electromagnetic shielding. The silver seeker groaned and looked at the three Vehicons, including Rootwing.

"It seems that you'll be spared this time, Rootwing." He then let him go and walked away before turning back, "Repair the electromagnetic shielding! We can't let the Autobots detect our ship!"

After Starscream left, Knockout and Roadkill looked at each other before heading back to the medic room, "Welp, back to the medic room"

"Time to have another boring day..." Roadkill groaned in boredom.

Hope everyone enjoys the chapter! Looks like Rootwing was lucky this time... Real lucky! Anyway, that's how Makeshift survived. We know that Makeshift supposed to be killed off like in the original, but my friend and I got some big plans for him. I won't spoil much because I promised. Also, Arcee just made a move on BJ~.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to all! Read, comment, review and God Bless us All!
