Beyond the Horizon

Prologue:

Memories are chains that bind us to our mortal forms. They can be as air, light to touch and refreshing, or the greatest burden one could carry. Of course, no chain would be a perfect example of either extreme. Every person forges a varied chain that they hold near their hearts, made with links of gold and lead...

"Y..you promised... you said..."

"I'm sorry, Tifa... I.

"No... don't say it... just... just..."

"I tried... it's still there, inside me..."

"I really thought we could win out against a single memory, Cloud... I guess I was wrong..."

The road winds forever and a mile, and it seemed to the young warrior that he just might find himself passing that last stretch of black ribbon. The roar of Fenrir was his only companion in this lonely existence. It had been months since he finally severed ties with the civilized world, and the calls were becoming shorter and the pauses grew longer in between. Only Marlene left messages for him now, and though he knew he would never answer them, Cloud felt comforted by the little girl's small acts.

"Aeris..." He whispered, saying her name for the millionth time since he first left the city, feeling as it were the only word he knew how to say. Dreams haunted him, and he saw her in every young woman's face, at least for the briefest of moments. Why did he still search for her, though every fiber of his rational mind cried out against him?

The road offered no answers, only stretching across eternity.

Author's Notes:

Waaaughh! Motoko and Keitaro are still as happy as lovebunnies in the dojo in their fanfic, but the other Hina girls are after my blood! They can't take any more chores!

Sorry, but I found it really weird that I made a C2 without an actually writing about it myself. I don't know myself anymore! What should I do? I wanna write this, but I wanna write my Keit/Mot too! TT

Oh well. Enjoy the wuvfest, guys. Cloud's gonna freakin tear the whole world apart for his one true love. Sure, people are all talking about how Aeris shipped off with Zack at the end of AC, but if you're like me, who had nothing better to do than watch the credits role, you know that the Cloud/Aeris flame is burning just as bright as ever before, so there!
