Alexander and Eliza had just been through the unimaginable. Their 19 year old son Philip, had just passed away from a fatal gunshot wound after a duel with George Eacker.

Eliza blamed Alexander.

Alexander did, too.

They were on autopilot as they walked into their now cold and empty house, sitting down on the couch and not saying a word. There was a tense silence between them; Eliza's anger for Hamilton still residing. She kept her head down and her eyes away from Hamilton, not bearing to look at him.

This was his fault. He could've stopped Philip from going to that duel. He would still be here; still be alive if it wasn't for her husband.

She soon got up to be alone in her room when she heard Alexander's breathing quicken and his body start to tremble. She paused and slowly sat back down, watching him carefully. He was silent for a moment, his shoulders shaking. Eliza was about to speak up when Alexander let out a quiet sob.

"I-I'm sorry.." He sobbed, his voice breaking. "Eliza, I-I'm so sorry..." Eliza didn't know what to say. She stared in shock as Alexander continued to cry behind his hands. "I killed him... It's all m-my fault.." He groaned as the tears continued to fall.

Eliza wordlessly wrapped her slender arms around her husband's trembling body. The moment she did, Alexander clung onto her like she was his lifesaver, his face burrowed into her delicate neck. "I'm s-sorry... I'm so sorry..." He continued to mumble through his tears.

"Shhh.." Eliza rubbed his back; unshed tears welling up in her eyes as she listened to his husband's cries. "It's alright." Alexander shook his head quickly, his breath coming in hiccupping sobs.

It wasn't alright. His son was dead. Their pride and joy. And it was all because of him.

He let out a loud sob, causing Eliza to hold him tighter. "It's okay. You're okay, love." She whispered as the unshed tears in her eyes finally rolled down her cheeks. She knew that her husband was suffering just as much as her, so they had to go through this together. She rested her cheek on top of Alexander's head. "Shhh.. I love you."

Alexander held her tighter at those words, knowing they would be okay.

"...I love you s-so much, Betsy.."
