She imagined that the pain would only last for a second and almost felt relieved about it. But the pain she waited on never came. Instead, she was dragged to the side in one sweep and saved from the quick end of being the victim of Chat Noir's Cataclysm.
When she opened her eyes a second later her gaze fell on Viperions worried face. When he seemed sure that she wasn't hurt he let her go and turned toward the area she had stood at moments earlier, the same place where Chat Noir now stood at.
"I see you brought your new friends." Chat Noir said to Ladybug.
For a moment Chloé just stood there and stared at Chat Noir. She noticed that his hand were still glowing black, so he hadn't used his Cataclysm. She did feel a bit grateful that he hadn't used it on her, but it didn't relax her one bit when she knew that it still had to be used.
The only thing Chloé knew now was that she had to get out of there. She wasn't Queen Bee and if something would happen she would just be in the way. It made her feel useless.
"We are all your friends." Ladybug said to Chat Noir.
Chat Noir turned around and held up his glowing black hand. His green eyes looked around as a bright, but very sad, smile showed up on his lips.
"I can see that." he said disappointed.
Chloé followed his gaze and noticed that it wasn't just Ladybug and Viperion there. On other roofs nearby she could see the rest of the heroes of Paris, all looking directly at them and standing in positions that meant they were ready for a fight. They weren't here for a friendly reunion, and that was something even Chat Noir had noticed.
When Ladybug took one step toward Chat everything happened so quickly that Chloé almost didn't have any time to react.
Chat took off toward the edge of the roof and the moment before he jumped, his glowing hand touched the building. The building, which directly reacted by being the victim of the Cataclysm started corroding and leaning in a way that made it feel like it was on the edge of falling.
Chat Noir left with Ladybug chasing after him, but none of the other heroes followed after them. Their attention was at all the civilians who had been inside the building and the rest that were down on the street.
As the building leaned too much, Chloé's wasn't able to stand upright. She fell down and started rolling down toward the edge. She tried grabbing whatever she could, but failed to get a good grip. When she rolled over the edge, she wasn't able to hold her mouth shut any longer. She screamed as she fell down toward the ground knowing that whatever pain she hadn't gotten earlier would be rewarded to her as she hit the ground.
Before she hit the ground she felt a pair of strong arms grab her and stopped her from hitting the ground. The moment her feet landed on the ground she turned around to see who it was that had saved her, but the only thing she saw was Viperion's back as he headed back towards the chaos.
Chloé started backing away and only got a couple of meters before she noticed that there were more people watching the drama than people in it. The news had also arrived and were filming the scene as a reporter was talking about what was going on.
Instead of staying outside in the chaos, she ran back into her father's hotel and stopped when she got into the safety of the lobby. There weren't a lot of people in there and those who were all seemed to talk about the same thing, Chat Noir had returned and it seemed like he wasn't on the heroes side anymore.
She calmly walked up to the front desk where some of the people had gathered. Few of them seemed to pay her any attention, but some seemed shocked to see her there with them. For a second she didn't understand why, but as her gaze fell on the tv behind the front desk she finally understood.
She could see herself on the screen falling from the roof of the building as it got Cataclysmed. She heard her own terrifying screaming and even if she knew she'd be alright in the end, she had to turn away and look at something else.
"This is a horrible day for the citizens of Paris. We have all wondered what had happened to Chat Noir and after this day we finally got the answer, but not the answer we had hoped. We still haven't gotten any answers from any of the other heroes, and Ladybug has yet to return after she chased after Chat Noir..." Nadja Chamack explained as she showed up on the screen.
Chloé was about to turn around and leave when her father came running into the lobby with Louise after. His gaze fell on Chloé, and he seemed to relax a bit. As he came walking towards her, Chloé realised that he must have seen the video of her falling from the building and she started worry about Zoé seeing it as well.
"Are you alright?" her father asked as he stopped in front of her.
"Yes. I'm alright." Chloé said and eyed Louise who seemed to keep her distance from the two of them.
"Why were you there?" her father asked her.
"On the roof?" she asked.
He nodded.
"I was..." she started but realised that she didn't know what to say.
She stood there for a moment and tried to figure out what she could tell him. It didn't fell right to tell a lie, but she had to tell him something. If she told him that she'd seen Chat Noir from her balcony and gone to the building to get it confirmed her father would question her about it and that was something she wanted to avoid.
"I was looking for work." Chloé said.
"Work?" her father seemed surprised even if he knew she would try to get a job in the near future. "You can get a job at the hotel. You seemed to enjoy working at the reception last year."
"Oh! It looks like the building has been fixed."
When Chloé heard Nadja's voice, she turned around and looked at the screen. The building was back to it's original shape, as Nadja just had said and Chloé knew exactly what it meant. It was enough for her to relax even though she now knew that things would become even more tougher in her life if Hawk Moth actually returned.
"I will think about it." Chloé told her father and made a gesture toward the elevators. "I think I need to go and rest for a moment."
"Of course." her father said and moved to the side for her to pass. "Let me know if you need anything."
"I will." she said and didn't bother looking at Louise when she passed her stepmother.
She got into the elevator that slowly took her up to the floor her room were at. When she reached the floor and walked through the corridor all the things she had just experienced and the real danger she had been in started catching up to her. She tried to block the thoughts, but when she entered her room and closed the door behind her she could hold back anymore.
Tears started streaming down her face and instead of drying them, she let them be.
She walked over the floor toward the balcony and went to the table where she had left her phone when she had rushed away after she had seen Chat Noir. She picked it up and took a deep breath before she unlocked it.
She clicked on all her contacts and scrolled down to where her sister's name was at. She knew Zoé didn't have her phone with her at the hospital, but Chloé whished that she had. She really needed to talk to someone, and she wanted that someone to be her sister.
Instead of calling her sister, knowing that no one would answer, she wrote her a text and sent it to her instead. She knew her sister would be released from the hospital later that day, and she hoped Zoé would get to her phone and see the text Chloé had sent to her.
Chloé put her phone away on the table again and sat down on a chair. Her gaze fell on the building next door where she had been moments earlier. She knew why she went there, but why had Chat Noir been there out of all buildings in Paris? What was so special with that specific building? Why return now after being gone for three years?
