Chapter One: That Rare Occurrence
The sun rose, warming the beautiful city of Zootopia. Mammals from everywhere were getting up and going to work for the day. Streets and walkways were being filled with movement of mammals. Cars being started and honking already starting.
A german shepherd woke up from the annoying cars making noise outside of his apartment, covering his head with his other pillow. The sunlight peaked through his small apartment, lighting up his room that only had a twin bed, a desk with his computer, with a chair, and a dresser. His bathroom was only big enough for a toilet and a stand-up shower.
The young german shepherd finally gave up of going back to sleep and sits up in his bed and yawns. He picks up his phone, opening Pawstagram and checking out all the post that his former college friends made. Seeing that they all either going on trips to hot and sunny places or going out and partying. As he is stuck in this cheap small apartment, in the busiest part of the city.
The young pup gets out of his bed, going to his dresser and grabs a pair of jeans and a grey v-cut shirt. Then his special cologne and deodorant, filling the room with his favorite custom smell. He made his bed and cleaned up his apartment before grabbing his keys and steps out of his apartment.
A grey female dog with long floppy ears walks out of her apartment almost at the same time as the german shepherd did. She had two piercings on each ear, she covered her beautiful face with her ears, shy around others. The other dog was wearing skinny jeans with a black sweatshirt. She happily waves at the german shepherd and goes over to him, "Morning Behr," her voice made the german shepherd shiver, filling his morning with sweetness instead of annoyance.
Her scent was mesmerizing, filling the hallway in seconds, filling Behr's nose, making him nose blind to other attractive females. She puts her arm into Behr's going into a walk down the hall.
"Morning Brooklyn, how was your date last night?" Behr asked, he was a bit jealous, this was as close as he has ever gotten to the floppy eared dog. They continued to walk down the apartment hallway, heading towards the exit.
Brooke rolled her eyes when Behr asked the question about her date, "I mean… it wasn't bad or anything, but I really wasn't interested in a lion like that."
"So, he wasn't cute enough for you? He seemed pretty buff to me."
"Buff yea, but I am only looking for someone as sweet as you Behr," Brooke says, making Behr blush a bit.
Behr opened the front door exit for them as they went out the apartment building. Mammals passed them on the sidewalk, making their way to their own jobs.
"Did we want to get our morning coffee?" Behr asked as they merged into the crowd of mammals, walking down the downtown city of Zootopia.
"I was up all night, that lion wanted to keep me out later to show me his cars at his place." Brooke yawned and covered her mouth as she does, keeping her arm locked around Behr's as they made their way down the crowded sidewalk.
"So, you did get into the lion's pants," Behr got a bit jealous hearing that Brooke went over to the lion's place last night.
"No Behr, I did not, like I said, he wasn't my type."
Behr chuckled, "After knowing you the whole time in college, I'm pretty sure I know your type of men Brooke."
"Oh, do you Behr," she rolled her eyes again, "I was just with those boys during college because we were drunk half of the time."
Behr shrugged, "Maybe or maybe you just wanted some jock dick." Brooke playfully punches him on his arm and growled a bit.
The two pups made their way to the coffee shop and gets into line to order. Brooke looks at the menu and looks for what she wants. Behr did the same but noticed someone walking into the coffee shop buy a new… interesting scent.
He turned around seeing a slim cute female cheetah, she was wearing a purple dress, that somehow perfectly fit her body. Brooke noticed he was facing the other direction and nudges him.
"You like her or something?" Brooke was looking at the cheetah as well as Behr was staring at her.
"She's cute… you jealous?" Brooke grunts at Behr's suspicious but honest question.
"No, I'm just happy to see you actually interested in a girl ever since Av-," Behr covered her mouth before Brooke continued and break his heart again.
"Don't… don't say her name."
The cheetah walked to a table and sat down by the window, waiting for someone to take her order. Brooke and Behr get to the counter and the cashier asks, "What would you two like?"
Behr was caught off guard and took his eyes off the cheetah, and looked at the cashier, "Huh?"
Brooke giggles and says, "He'll just take a caramel Frappuccino, and I'll get that new iced coffee you guys got."
Behr rubbed his eyes and looked at Brooke, "Thanks… I guess I'm a bit distracted today."
"Why don't you go talk to her. We got a couple minutes before work." Brooke suggests as she pays for their coffee.
"You think she'll like me?" Behr fixes his fur, running his paw through his fur on his head.
"Behr, you're very attractive, any girl would love to have you," Brooke knew she was going to lose her chance to have him, but she did not know if he had the same feelings for her.
Behr straightened his shirt and gets his coffee, walking over to the cheetah's table. Behr felt the air around him shift, feeling extremely nervous. He went up to her and smiles, thinking his smile was a bit off due to his nervousness.
"Hi, er, I'm Behr. May I sit here with you?" The cheetah looked away from the window to where the scruffy but firm voice was coming from.
"I don't mind, please, the seat is free," her voice was light, a bit higher than Behr would have thought from a cheetah. He sat down in the open seat and smiled, sipping on his Frappuccino. "My name is Jinx."
Behr's memory clicked quickly, remembering things he has seen all summer since he moved here. "No… wait… you're the Jinx from all those billboards."
"Yes. I am that Jinx." She blushes lightly and her tea that she ordered arrived in a mug from a waiter.
"What is a famous model doing here in a regular coffee shop?" Behr was now in total awe from this cheetah, he has seen her modeling pictures all over the city.
"I wouldn't exactly call myself famous, you are the only mammal that has recognized me."
Behr felt kind of weird now, "Oh, uh, that's a bit surprising, I've seen your amazing model billboards all across town."
Brooke walked over to their table and says to Jinx, "Sorry about my friend, he gets a bit over excited when he meets a hot animal like yourself. I'm Brooklyn, you can call me Brooke."
Jinx shakes her paw and smiles at the two pups that she just met. "Well, it's good to see I'm getting a small fanbase around here." She sips on her tea and looks into Behr's cute eyes.
"Behr we should get going to work, or our manager is going to get pissed." Brooke mentions as Behr groans.
"Fine… it was great to meet you Jinx… say, can I have your number?" Behr took out his phone and opened a new contact and gave her his phone. "And maybe we can get coffee sometime?"
The cheetah grabbed the phone and blushes deeper, "That'd be great Behr~" She puts in her number and gives the german shepherd back his phone and waves goodbye to the two pups.
Behr and Brooke walk out of the coffee shop and start walking down the sidewalk again, the city slowly started to become less busy, most people were at work now. They did not really say anything to each other as they walked to their job together, they felt it would be awkward now. Behr knew he had feelings for Brooke, and the same the other way around, but they didn't know if the other liked them back.
Behr opened the front door to their workplace and their manager was already upset as they walked in. Behr mumbled, "Oh great."
"No crap," Brooke mumbled back.
The manager came out from the behind of the counter and goes up to the two, "Come on we got five minutes before we open, move your asses."
Behr went back into the kitchen and started getting stuff ready for the breakfast restaurant they worked at. Brooke was the waitress, getting her tables ready and cleaned for the first customers, which were usually the older regulars.
The rest of their shift was normal, Behr made everyone's breakfast, and Brooke took it to the customers that left bad tips for no valid reason. Before they knew it, it was already time to do the shift change and Behr got off with Brooke. Leaving the restaurant for the day, the time was nearing one pm.
Behr was secretly texting Jinx all day while he did not have orders, they made plans to have coffee together tomorrow morning. Tomorrow was finally the weekend, for at least Behr and Brooke. Tomorrow was Monday, and Behr was more than excited to meet up with that model again.
Brooke noticed how much he was on his phone as they walked along the sidewalk again, "O, I see that my boy is finally going to get laid again."
"Jesus Brooke, it's just coffee."
"I haven't seen you smile this much in a while! And I'm really happy for you!" She hugs him and smiles, making them just stand in the middle of the sidewalk, mammals just walking past them as they were in one spot.
"Brooke, stop hugging me here," she let go and got them walking again.
Behr heard a scream from behind him, he quickly turned around, letting his heroic instincts take over. He ran towards the scream, the air flowing through his fur, everything feeling like it was going in slow motion.
He ran towards the scream that came from across the street, people were fleeing from a local market, Behr could not help himself from running towards the trouble, then for a spit second Behr went deaf. His vision went white and could not feel himself. The force pushed him across the street and smashed into a side of a car.
There were screams ringing in Behr's head, regaining some of his vision, the store was in pieces, flames surrounding the building. People were just running, as Behr was numb, sitting against the side of the car.
Brooke runs up to Behr, he was bleeding from his ears and just in a daze, seeing him just looking at the explosion that had just happened in the store. She put his face in her paws and tries to have him look into her eyes, just to have him say he is okay.
He could not hear anything, everything just sounded like mumbling with loud ringing.
