Chapter Two: The City's Savior
He could not hear anything, everything just sounded like mumbling with loud ringing. He started to tear up, looking back into her eyes. He gulps and starts to say something but felt like nothing was coming out of his mouth.
"Brooke… I can't hear…" He managed to get words out of shocked mouth. EMTs come running over to where Behr was sitting against the car. He slowly closes his eyes, passing out in pain.
Brooke watches him close his eyes while she held him in his paws, crying and while seeing him in pain. The EMTs have her move away from Behr as they put him on a stretcher and carrying him to the ambulance. Brooke stood back as the ambulance took Behr away, debris filled the street from the building that just blew to pieces.
She sat down in the middle of the street watching other people get helped from the local fire department and EMTs. Jinx comes up behind Brooke and sits next to her, putting her paw on her leg.
"Are you okay? Where's Behr?" Jinx wanted to do anything to help her new friend that was just sitting in the middle of a blast zone.
Brooke sniffles and rubs her snout, "Behr was taken to the hospital," Jinx's heart drops, thinking the worst just as Brooke was.
"You mean… he's hurt…" Jinx moves to in front of Brooke, on her knees to look each other in their eyes. "Come on, let's go to the hospital."
Jinx helps Brooke up off the grounds and brushes off the dust from her clothes, holding her paw and catching a ride to the hospital together. Brooke was not sure how she felt about this new friend she gained; Jinx was different than she was used to. She was used to those popular ungrateful girls from her college days.
The girls looked out the window together as they were on the bus. A lot of mammals made their way to where the explosion took place, Brooke was still tearing up a bit. She just kept thinking that Behr was on his deathbed, just because he could not keep his instincts in check for once. An event like this already happened with Behr in college.
Behr was always the type to save other peoples' lives. If he heard trouble, he was just around the corner to save the day, Brooke even imagined him as a cop one day. In college, he got himself into a situation where he rescued a white vixen from trouble between a couple jock Bulls. Let us just say the Bulls slipped in a drug into her drink and tried to pursue their risky actions.
He did not take this well, following these Bulls and creating a fight in a party house room. When others came to the commotion, Behr had one bull knocked out on the floor and the other had Behr trapped on the floor, pounding his sweet face to the floor. The other mammals dragged the Bull from the german shepherd and left him there as they fled the party house.
If Brooke never went looking for Behr after her own party, Behr might have never survived this chance to be a hero. She managed to take him to his dorm and get him cleaned up and healed within a few weeks. That is when they truly bonded, Behr was fond of Brooke taking care of him.
The bus stops at their destination, getting off the bus and running into the hospital. Being pointed to Behr's hospital room. The hospital was already full of the wounded mammals from the explosion, some more hurt than was Brooke saw on Behr.
There wear cries filling the atmosphere of the hospital, Jinx held Brooke's paw harder. Doctors were overworking themselves, helping everyone they could. It had felt like the hospital was changing, the hallways twisted in sadness and fear. There was nothing the girls could do as they walked towards Behr's room.
They walk into Behr's hospital room; he was connected to IVs and the monitor beeping softly. Brooke and Jinx go up to his bed, looking at his body, chunks of his fur were missing from the blast. Behr's eyes opened slowly seeing both girls standing at the end of his bed.
"Guess that blast was not good enough to take me out huh," Behr tried to lighten the room with a stupid joke. Brooke walks to the side of him and puts her paw on his chest.
Brooke had not stopped crying the whole time she thought she lost Behr forever. "I'm glad you're okay Behr."
Jinx went to the other side of Behr, "As do I."
Behr looked over to the other side of the bed where Jinx was and puts his paw on hers, going into a small stare into each other's eyes.
A small rabbit in uniform entered the room, "Excuse me, no meaning to intrude. But may I have a word with Behr Levi?"
"That's me," Brooke moves her paws away from him as he answered the bunny, Jinx kept her paw locked with Behr's.
The bunny walked over to Behr's bed and began to start questioning him about the explosion, "Hi, I'm Judy Hopps, ZPD, I'm here to ask what you saw and heard downtown today."
Behr's memory was a bit fuzzy from earlier, "Well uh, I heard a scream coming from down the street, so I ran towards it. Once I got right outside the building where people were running from, everything went white. All I remember next was me numb and deaf against a car."
"You didn't see anyone suspicious before the bomb went off?" Judy was writing Behr's experience down on her notepad.
"No sorry, that's all I can remember," Behr squeezed Jinx's paw, getting worried that they had reason to believe that he was involved.
"Thank you, Behr, it is great to see dogs here in Zootopia." Judy puts away her notebook and looks around the room. Brooke sits in the chair available next to Behr's bed and looks at the officer in concern.
Brooke decided to say something to the bunny, "Is there something else we can help you with officer?"
Judy looks at the floppy eared dog and smiles, "There is. How did you and Behr come to Zootopia?"
Brooke was confused by the question but answered anyway, "Well when we graduated, it was recommended from our college to start our future lives here in Zootopia. We had a poster in the hallways of you pushing the enforcement of allowing canine dogs back into Zootopia."
"Oh, you're from Howling Point?" Judy asks while talking to Brooke face to face.
"We both are." Brooke twiddled her fingers while being questioned awkwardly.
"It's great to hear our initiative is getting across the globe!" Judy smiles and turns around going to Behr, "Our sympathy from the ZPD, we hope you heal well."
"Thank you, Officer Judy." Behr waves goodbye to the officer as she leaves the hospital room.
Jinx looks at Behr and feels Behr starting to relax, "I guess we're going to have to reschedule our coffee," she says while trying to comfort him as much as possible.
Brooke sat in the chair with her arms crossed, watching Jinx do exactly what she used to do when he was first hurt in college. She could not believe, but she was jealous over Jinx. Jinx was never in the picture for her to be worried, but she never had to, Behr was never on the top of her list.
"We should let you get some rest," Brooke says while getting up from her seat and trying to get Jinx to leave.
"I don't want to…" Behr whined while looking at Jinx, the cheetah was blushing, falling for some dog she just met. Dogs were never here, but once there is a cute german shepherd, she falls for him when he first used his charming deep voice.
"Behr you're going to get rest, you need to heal. Our manager isn't going to be so happy that you aren't going to be working." Behr broke away from the lovely stare from the cheetah and glances at Brooke.
"Tell him I fucking quit then." Behr had a quick new mindset when Judy Hopps came into the room earlier. He knew that he had a heroic side, but what if he used this new heroic side for common good.
"You quit? What exactly are you going to do for work?" Brooke gets defensive over Behr's sudden use of anger.
"I need to help the people of Zootopia… I could have saved those people if I knew what I was doing."
"Behr, it was not your fault."
"Of course, it was not my fault, but I could have prevented it." Behr replied to Brooke as she grunts loudly and storms out of the room, leaving Behr and Jinx in the room.
"Are you certain you want to do this?" Jinx looked concerned while holding his paw, seeing Brooke's meltdown, and thinking something more had happened between the two dogs.
"I haven't been surer in my life Jinx. And there is something I wanted to do since I have met you…" Behr pulled Jinx closer to him, looking into her eyes. Going into a passionate kiss with the cheetah, their lips locking together.
Jinx ran her paw across his chest, breaking from kiss. They laugh while looking in each other's eyes. "Behr… don't you think this too fast?"
"If this is too fast, then I want it faster, because when that moment flashed before my eyes… I thought of you." Jinx went into an awe when Behr told her that sweet memory.
"I can not wait until you can come home with me."
"You should go home; I'll be okay here." Behr rubs her arm slowly comforting her after there first amazing kiss together.
"I'll be back tomorrow, and hopefully we can get you out of here," Jinx replied, not wanting to let him go.
"That would be great," Behr finally lets her go and she walks out of the room slowly, doing a bit of a sexual walk away from him. She knew he wanted her badly, their kiss did get a bit handsy.
He sat on his bed, watching her leave the room to himself. He laid down, laying his head on the soft but uncomfortable hospital pillow. He looked at the ceiling, counting the tiles just to stay awake, thinking what he could do to make himself a better person. His eyelids became too heavy, falling asleep, the lights becoming black.
Behr woke up with a gasp, he was not in the hospital anymore. He was in an alley, garbage around him, it was dark out. He grabbed his phone from his pocket, seeing the time was two am, the next day. His head pounded in pain, rubbing his temples and trying to gain more focus in his vision.
