The rest of the month moved fast for Kurt, getting to know his new friends and school. Warblers practice was fun most days. He learned the name of that wretched Government teacher, Mrs. Harding. And she did still hate him, and that was okay.
He and Blaine were still not dating, and its officially bothering Kurt, and he hoped it was bothering Blaine too. Their chemistry was stronger than ever, several times he caught Blaine watching him from behind or staring at his lips when Kurt was talking to him. The both of them were constantly looking for excuses to touch each other, a quick hand on the knee or back, goodnight hugs even. Kurt's worst fear was that he was reading more into this than there was. It wouldn't be the first time.
He was also a little more than homesick at this point. He's only seen his dad once since moving here, and he hasn't seen Finn or his other friends at all. Today he was headed home, and he was going to ask permission from one, Wesley Montgomery, to skip Warblers practice. Just this once.
Burt begged for Kurt to bring Wes, or any of his other friends, but especially Wes. But he told him that Wes would likely be busy with Warblers. Perhaps Jeff though, he didn't really want to bring Blaine and have questions that he can't answer. Also, maybe a little distance would be good for them both to get their heads in the right place.
This was the first time he walked to breakfast without an escort, he pouted slightly but trucked on to the cafeteria. The only ones at the table were Nick and Jeff, odd.
Kurt grabs his morning fruit cup and some water and joins the two boys who greet him. Kurt sits down and looks around again for Blaine, maybe he was sick.
Kurt frowns at Nick and Jeff who were extra interested in their breakfast sandwiches. They knew something, "So where is everyone, do you know? I had something to talk to Wes about."
Jeff shook his head a little too quickly, clearing his voice before responding, "Nope, don't know anything. What's going on with you though?" He wasn't a fan of lying to his new friend, it felt so wrong. There was no way he could face him all day without spilling.
Kurt watched Jeff with narrowed eyes, well he's obviously lying. But oh well, Jeff's not obligated to tell Kurt anything. Kurt just shrugs it off, boys were so weird. And to think people give girls a hard time about being dramatic, surely whatever's going on is not that serious. "Alright, well I'm going home for the weekend to go to my old school's football game to support my brother."
Nick perked up at that, "Really, I love football."
"Well, you could join me if you want. My dad said I could bring someone; the only problem is we'd need to skip Warblers to get there on time. My dad would be picking us up after Math class." Nick wasn't who he was expecting, but it would be a good way for them to get to know each other better. He looks over at Jeff, wanting him to feel included, "You're welcome to go as well?"
Jeff smiled thankfully, but shook his head, "Maybe a different time, you and I could shop or something. Maybe next week!"
Kurt's eyes brightened at the idea of shopping, it's been way too long. "That's definitely more my speed, okay, let's do that then, " so excited to have a guy friend he could shop with. He looks back over to Nick to confirm their plans, "So Nick what do you say, ditch Warblers with me and go hang out at the football game?"
"I'd love too," Nick responds excitedly, he always wished there were more sports at Dalton. "But save your dad the trip Kurt, we can just take my car. It needs to be driven around every once in a while."
Kurt glares at Nick jealously, "You get to have your car here? My dad won't let me have mine, you'll get to hear us fight about that this weekend."
Nick thought it was cool that Kurt had parents that cared so much, Nick's parents rarely even call. They were older when they had Nick, and they were never interested in parenting. They didn't have the energy or patience for a child. But they did have money and figured why not just give Nick the best of everything and let his school look after him. Nick laughs anyway, not wanting to downplay Kurt's feelings.
Before Nick could respond, the three other boys start approaching the table. The shortest one walking very stiffly, clearly hurting in some way.
Kurt watches them in confusion, "You guys okay?" His eyes settling on Blaine as he winces while sitting down. "What happened to you, Blaine?"
Blaine managed a tight smile, "Everything's fine, Kurt. We did a little too much jogging last night and I'm really feeling it today."
Kurt's face softens sympathetically, poor Blaine. "Well, good thing it's Friday and you can get plenty of rest."
Blaine nods, "That's the plan. How are you guys this morning?"
"Well," Kurt looks at Wes hopefully, "I'm supposed to be going to my old school to watch a football game. But I'll need to leave early to get there on time, so I was hoping to get the okay to miss practice this evening. And Nick too."
Wes's eyebrows lift in surprise, but they were both pretty excellent with the current choreography. He figures he can be generous this one time. Plus, this could keep Kurt from asking too many questions. "I guess it wouldn't hurt."
David smiles and shrugs, "Sounds fun, Kurt."
Suspicious, why was Wes being so normal. He takes Warblers so seriously it was ridiculous a lot of the time. David being oddly smiley, Blaine barely talking at all. Now not looking at Kurt again! Did they think he was an idiot?
"Alright, well thank you for being so understanding," Kurt responds dryly, looking at each of his friends to see which one looks the most ready to crack. Jeff, red face, sweaty palms, moving around in his seat. They were going shopping next week.. they were all keeping something from him. Well, he wasn't going to sit here like this if they were going to act this way.
Kurt stands up, "Well, I guess I'll talk to you guys later." Stops once more to see a somewhat sad look on Blaine's face. Well what the hell, they were acting so weird, what does he expect?
The second Kurt walks out, all the boys' heads drop. Blaine had his head resting against his fingertips like he does when he's either stressed or angry, or about to cry.
"Guys, he's fine," Wes says, trying to calm everyone down. "He'll go hang out with his friends today, he'll forget this weird morning ever existed."
Jeff shakes his head, about to stand up and go after Kurt. "No, guys. He's smart, way too smart for these games at least. And we just lied to his face. You don't think he's going to figure it out?"
Blaine shakes his head, looks at Jeff seriously, "You can't tell him, that's how it works, you know this. It would complicate things too much, for him too!"
Jeff scoffs in disgust, looks at Nick who refused to look him in the eye. "And you're fine hanging out with him all weekend?"
Nick looks the least tense out of everyone, "I can handle it. In fact, I'm probably the best one to handle it. Between me or David." Nick looks at Blaine, "It's best you don't join us." Blaine's his best friend, so he can say it. He was a pushover for Kurt.
Blaine slumps in a seat with a sigh and crosses his arms, "I know, you're probably right."
David, who'd been completely silent, shakes his head and stands up. "Well, I stand with Jeff on this. I understand the rules, but he's supposed to be one of us now." When the other boys' heads look at him in shock, he usually just goes with whatever Wes says. He puts his hands up placatingly. "I ain't saying anything to him, but I just want it known that I disagree with it."
Wes now fully in council mode, "Understood, David. Nick, I want you to keep in contact with us and let us know if Kurt mentions anything. Any. thing. Blaine, no more pouting until Kurt leaves. You see him at lunch, you're to go back to charming, happy go lucky Blaine. If anyone can get Kurt off of this, it's you." He looks at Blaine sternly, Blaine rolls his eyes but nods in agreement. Wes looks to Jeff, he's going to spill. "Jeff, you'd be doing him no favors telling him. We have to stand together on this." Jeff was still unconvinced, "Jeff, the fight club is illegal. Not only would Kurt hate fight club, but he'd be forced to decide whether or not to lie for us if he's ever questioned about it. We've been almost caught like four times."
"Well, can't we just end the club?" Jeff looks at Blaine desperately, he hated the club anyway, and the harm it caused his friends.
"No."
Kurt was officially on Friday mode. Blaine was adorable again, he even made his salad for him. Who knows what the earlier shenanigans were, someone probably got caught with porn or something. With the way these boys overreact, you'd think they'd have committed some violent crime.
As they sit in government class, he continues his Blaine staring, but this time Blaine's tag is sticking out of his white shirt. Kurt wouldn't be able to not fix this, even if it wasn't Blaine. It was only sticking out a little, no one else would even notice. But he was Kurt.
With the teacher's back turned, Kurt reaches his hand forward and pushes the neck of Blaine's blazer down a little. Blaine jerked slightly at the unexpected contact, Kurt whispered to Blaine to quit moving. He grabs the neck of Blaine's shirt and pushes the tag down so it was straight. Kurt let out a sigh of relief before very slowly letting go and breaking contact with Blaine's slight tanner skin.
He must have been a little too slow, cause the next thing he heard was the teacher's harsh, irritated voice. "Mr. Hummel, are you incapable of keeping your hands to yourself?"
Kurt leans back in his seat and sighs, here we go again. He decides to answer as honestly as he could, "Depends on who it is."
Blaine's face turns red, then he does that thing Kurt loves where he kinda pinches the bridge of his nose, he does it when he's trying not to laugh, or embarrassed. It was probably a bit of both this time.
She stops next to Kurt's desk, looking supremely annoyed, "I'm going to have a talk with the Headmaster about your behavior in this classroom."
Kurt shakes his head, "All I did was fix his shirt tag for him." This was honestly getting ridiculous.
This time Blaine actually speaks up, in that soft, respectful tone that could charm the president. "Excuse me, Mrs. Harding? He really was helping me. I injured myself last night exercising and he was fixing my shirt for me because he knew it would hurt for me to."
Mrs. Harding's eyes went soft at Blaine's words, stunning Kurt silent, not in a good way. "I understand, thank you for clearing that up for us." Like a completely different person, her voice almost wispy.
Kurt turned a shocked and somewhat irritated look at Blaine, who just winked at him from the corner of his eye. Remembering Puck's thing with old ladies, he whispers in a scandalized voice, "What the hell was that? She like a closet cougar or something?"
Trent, a fellow warbler heard that, as well as Blaine. The two look at him, completely horrified at the idea.
"Kurt Hummel," she looks at him, completely fed up. "I don't know what you just said, but I've had it. I want you out of the classroom." Her face almost purple with rage.
Kurt gracefully stands up and grabs his things, gives Blaine a little glare, who just scoffed in return. He walks up towards the front of the class. He looks the teacher dead in the eyes and points at Blaine, "Blaine's off limits, ma'am."
He heard a quiet, "Oh my god Kurt."
Blaine has never heard a nastier thing in his entire life. As Kurt left, Blaine and Trent shook their heads in disbelief, amused beyond belief though.
Thankfully class ended soon and he was the first out the door. Kurt was waiting for him almost in the doorway, you would think he would at least move down the hallway a little to keep from getting in more trouble.
Blaine took one look at him and shook his head, "Kurt, I cannot believe you went there." But he wanted to waste no time on Mrs. Harding. He took initiative this time and grabbed Kurt's hand in his. Kurt was not going home before they kissed and he didn't know how soon after Math he was leaving.
Kurt's face softened into this super sweet smile as he looked down at their hands. That was the Kurt that Blaine loved the most, but he didn't show it very often. His face was so open and vulnerable, angelic, despite his behavior in the classroom. "Come with me."
The two walk quietly towards where they have their next class, Blaine leans against the wall, Kurt follows suit. Kurt waits patiently as Blaine gathers what he wants to say, their hands still attached.
Blaine looks into Kurt's eyes, blue today, realizing he was going to be gone a few days. "I'm going to miss you this weekend. I'm so jealous that Nick gets you all to himself."
Kurt gives him a soft chuckle, "You know I'll be thinking of you the whole time."
Blaine smiles back, his eyes stopping at Kurt's lips. "I had more romantic plans for this, but I just don't want to wait anymore." Kurt has made it clear so many times how he feels for Blaine. It was time Blaine took a chance with Kurt. He places his free hand softly to the side of Kurt's face, leans in and touches their lips together. Softly at first, Kurt takes his free hand and wraps his arm around the back of Blaine's neck to pull him closer. Their kiss deepens to the point Blaine felt the heat all the way to his toes.
When they eventually broke their kiss, their eyes meet again. Kurt pulls back and smiles, "took us long enough."
Blaine dropped his head and laughed, he looks at the time and sighs, "Well, I think we better get you to class before you get in more trouble, Kurt Hummel."
The two walk into the classroom and are immediately welcome with a room full of cheers and some laughter, but good hearted laughter. The teacher was shaking her head, but a smile playing on her lips. "Let's calm down before Wes starts trying to marry them."
The whole room starts laughing, Wes looked like he was actually considering the idea. The classroom never really calmed down; everyone had been waiting for them to finally make it official.
The class ends and guys that Kurt still hadn't even met came and offered them a congratulations. And Kurt officially understood the magic behind the school. They truly accepted him, made him feel at home.
Blaine walks him toward the dorms, with Nick walking with them. Kinda awkward, no one's quite what to say in this moment. Blaine decides to put everyone out of their misery and break the silence. "Alright, if I don't stop here, I'll be late and you know how Wes feels about that." He turns to Kurt, "Hey, I'm pretty sure boyfriends text each other every once in a while. Especially after long drives so I don't have to worry. Have so much fun."
Kurt leans in and gives him a quick kiss, agrees to text him as much as he likes and then turns to Nick, "I'll go get our stuff."
When Kurt walks off, Nick laughs and shakes his head, "I cannot believe you made out with him before god and everyone like that. I think he's been a bad influence on you."
Blaine throws his head back and laughs, "I bet you're right about that."
"Listen, I want you to know, I'm so happy for you."
"Thank you," Blaine pulls Nick in for a quick hug, "Look out for him over there, okay?"
Nick nods before pulling back, "Of course."
"I leave you alone for two minutes," Kurt mock-glares as he carries the two bags out. He walks over to them and hands Nick his bag. Leans over and gives Blaine another kiss.
"Alright, alright," Nick laughs, pulling Kurt away. "If you two don't stop now, we'll never make it. You guys will see each other in like two days."
Blaine sighs and lets go of his boyfriend, "Okay fine. Kurt, behave yourself over there. At least better than you did in class today." His voice suddenly stern, but his gleaming eyes giving him away.
"What happened in class, Kurt," Nick asks as the two walk out.
Kurt laughed and launched into the story as Blaine makes his way to Warblers practice, late.
