Maybe
Lily Evans was born in a loving, caring family. At least, that's what her parents and every body else thought.
The truth was that Lily's sister, Petunia, never liked her. But was that really true?
Lily didn't know. Her sister, three years older than her, did not talk much to her. Oh, when they were little, Lily remembered, Petunia would play with her.
But Lily had always had that stupid feeling that her sister did not like her.
True, she would play with her. If she wanted to play, that is. they never played when Lily asked.
When Petunia entered high school, she was in a boarding, elite school and Lily did not see her anymore. When she was home, she would spend hours on the phone, talking about things that just did not interest Lily.
When she told her parents about it, they said that she would be more interested as she grew up. It made Lily anxious to get to go to high school, too.
The summer before the so awaited for year, petunia started being nicer to Lily. She seemed as exited as Lily herself about it. She talked about showing her round the school. Lily understood her sister was well-liked, and she was proud of it.
Then, one morning, a letter had come for her.
She was a witch.
Lily suddenly remembered how she used to make her Brussels sprouts disappear when mama wasn't looking. How, once, her lost teddy bear had come back to her during the night. And countless other little things.
She was a witch. It all added up.
She forgot all about Petunia and her high school. She was going to do magic.
But Petunia didn't forget about her. As soon as their parents had declared it was probably a joke - and Lily was sure it wasn't- , Petunia had started teasing her.
Maybe she already saw that she would not be able to show off her sister.
Maybe.
Lily was ecstatic the day the existence of magic was proved to her family. Petunia did not talk to her again all summer.
So, Lily went to Hogwarts. Her parents were as exited as her.
But, every summer and Christmas, Petunia was in a foul mood. She is jealous, thought Lily, caught up in the marvels of magic.
But was she really? Lily asked herself after three years of this.
Maybe.
The fourth summer, Petunia was really nasty. She had decided Lily was just some kind of freak. And she annoyed Lily with it until she gave up and went to see one of her friends for the rest of the summer.
Then, there was the card. The one that read:
"Petunia Evans and Vernon Dursley
are proud to announce their upcoming marriage, on the 20th of May."
It was not an invitation. And any way, she just couldn't come. She had her NEWTs coming that year.
She suspected Petunia to have done it on purpose.
Maybe.
Anyway, Petunia did not come to her marriage. Even if their mother seemed quite upset about it. Lily told her she didn't mind. Did she?
Maybe.
What had Lily done to her? She could not be angry with her for just being a witch, could she?
Maybe…
