She thinks she truly hates him as he ducks and the plate she just threw at him misses his head.Right now only anger consumes her, and what happened plays over and over along with a list of broken promises in her head. And she blames him now for all that's wrong, everything from the broken glass to the broken woman sobbing hysterically on the kitchen floor.
She hates being left alone, its her biggest fear, but at times she welcomes it, welcomes the reprieve from her daily life. But other times , most times after they fight is when she hates being left alone. She fears that he'll leave her for good. So maybe her biggest fear isn't being left alone, its that he'll leave, the one true constant thing in her life will be gone and she'll be powerless to stop it.
So she'll sit alone wrapped in his sweatshirt that smells like his cologne, laying on the couch that he hated buying, because he only cared about the bedroom, but he later learned to like that couch because she fit perfectly underneath his arm. And she waits to hear the familiar sound of their car pulling into the driveway and the way he can never find the right key to the house until at least his second try.
But the familiar sounds don't fill her ears. Instead the loud knocking gets her up and moving towards the door. And the sight of the two men in front of her showed that her fears were anything but in vain. Maybe he didn't leave the exact way she expected but her left nonetheless and its certain that he won't be back for her to apologize to. And she sinks to the floor as the realization hits her, and she doesn't call anyone, doesn't move, doesn't even make a sound, as she slips into unconsciousness. Because there his arms are wrapped securely around her , never wanting to let her go.
However she wakes up to quickly without his warmth beside her and the memories from just hours before come back to her as she realizes that what happened wasn't a nightmare, its her life now. She's alone now, her two biggest fears came true in one night. Well she's not completely alone, she has her family and friends, but he always said that they were each others family, that nothing else mattered. And right then she'd give anything just to hear that he'll love her always and forever and that nothing matters besides them. But she can't and she calls his cell phone at least fifty times that night just to hear his voice, trying to memorize everything that will eventually come to an end, like he did.
She pulls out a photo album from their wedding days and stares at their first wedding picture, picturing them at the beach and trying to smell that salt air, because she knows that pretty soon she won't be able to remember….but they'll meet again soon at seventeen, and she clutches a picture of him to her heart as she sees him again for the first time in sixty years, he still looks as handsome as she remembered.
