"Now...with all of our assembled fighters...it's time to begin our first match. Now we have a competitor from the smashers facing someone from the Fatebreakers. Let's introduce our Smasher first!" Chi Ta said as the lights focused on Smasher's side. "He's the miraculous doctor who flings medicine and cures all ailments. Viruses run in fear of him and his electric touch! The Prescriber! Dr...Mario!" Chi Ta called out as the doctor himself marched into the arena as the audience cheered along with doctor and nurse versions of the Mushroom Kingdom denizens.
"Alright. It's-a time to-a take your medicine." Dr. Mario said.
"Okay, first fighter." Ethox said as he and his group were huddled together. "Who wants to go?"
"I'll do it!" Ultra said immediately.
"You want to go first?" Nemo asked. "I'd figured you'd want to wait in case-"
"I know, a Smash Fighter from Pokémon, but the fights are random." Ultra reminded his teammate. "I'm happy to get the chance to take part, against anyone."
"In that case, good luck." DJ wished the trainer as Ultra headed out.
"Alright then! The Fatebreakers have selected their fighter!" Chi Ta called.
(Entrance: Ultra Beast Battle Music - Pokémon Sun & Moon)
"A lone trainer from the Beast Universe. One who has specialized in the use of the interdimensional Ultra Beasts. He has mastered the art of using Burst, with every single one of his team members! The former Beast Universe Elder of the Anarchy Kings! The Ultra Link! Ultra...Man!" Chi Ta called out as Ultra entered the arena as the audience applauded.
"Dr. Mario, was it?" Ultra asked, fishing out a Beast Ball. "We're the first matchup in this tournament, so we'll need to set the precedent of excitement for everyone. Let's give it our all!" the boy declared, throwing the Beast Ball up and releasing Kartana.
"Your next stop...will be the emergency room." Dr. Mario said.
"As for our location...the Wrecking Crew. Break a leg." Chi Ta said as the two fighters soon found themselves in a crumbling building.
"The heck?" Ultra said, confused by the sudden teleportation before dodging a pill.
"Now we-a fight." Dr. Mario said.
"Okay then!" Ultra agreed. "Kartana, like we practiced!"
The Ultra Beast known as Blade seemed to nod before it dashed straight towards Dr. Mario, unleashing a Fury Cutter once in close enough. The alternate Mario shielded to prevent taking the brunt of the attack, before taking action as he jumped. "Dr. Kick!" he said landing a kick. "And Dr. Punch!" he said getting a punch in after.
The two attacks caused the light Ultra Beast to be launched back towards Ultra, who caught it and quickly spun around, fishing out another Beast Ball. "Guzzlord, Dragon Rush!"
The light from the Beast Ball had only barely taken form before the gluttonous Ultra Beast was rushing towards the doctor, intent on tackling him. For his part, Dr. Mario didn't flinch, jumping once more, this time to the platform above the first level, right over Ultra.
"He's probably gonna try and drop down, so I'll have to…" Ultra strategized before he heard a crumbling as the ceiling caved in onto the floor as a barrel trapped him.
"Whoa...did that just happen?" DJ said from the stands (screens allowing them to observe the battle taking place).
"Indeed it did. That building is one scheduled for demolition, so of course it's a very fragile place." said Dr. Revive, who was sitting behind them.
"And Ultra just got trapped in a barrel." Mirror Match said. "If he doesn't find a way out, Dr. Mario will undoubtedly take advantage of this."
Sure enough, Dr. Mario landed back on the bottom level and saw the barrel where Ultra was standing before.
"Oh...Dr...Tornado!" Dr. Mario said, spinning right into the barrel and damaging Ultra. "Clear!" he called out as he zapped it with electricity.
The electricity ran its course with the barrel, seemingly dissipating after a few moments. After a few moments of silence, the voice of Ultra came from the barrel.
"Thanks for that!" the voice said as black tendrils emerged from the barrel and quickly wrapped around Dr. Mario. "I think Xurkitree enjoyed the medicine! Thunder Shock, then Power Whip as hard as you can!"
The Electric-type Ultra Beast took its trainer's advice, returning the shock Dr. Mario had given with plenty of interest, before using its tendrils to repeatedly slap the good doctor with repeated lashes.
"Ultraman is keeping the Good Doctor Mario on his toes by rapidly switching between his Ultra Beasts!" Chi Ta said.
The trainer himself took the opportunity to get the barrel off him.
"Ever since my unfortunate loss at the Perfect Link Tournament, I've been getting better and more used to switching between my partners." Ultra said. "We lost a lot of confidence thanks to the Hidden Band and their unspeakable 'secret weapon'... but we're getting it back with every step we take! That's part of the process of being a Pokemon Trainer… and a hero!"
Ultra then looked past Xurkitree to see Guzzlord shaking a pile of bricks off it, looking more annoyed than anything.
"Guzzlord, you okay?" Ultra asked, getting a roar of confirmation in response. "In that case.. It's go time. Guzzlord, let's bring it out at last!"
Guzzlord nodded. The Dark-and-Dragon Type and its trainer focused, Ultra concentrating on his bond with the large Ultra Beast…
Dr. Mario, meanwhile, had finally managed to get free from Xurkitree's tendrils, battered but still in fighting condition.
"Okay...let's bring this to an end." Dr. Mario said. "The Doctor...Finale!" he called out as two large pills were rocketing towards Ultra.
Before the Final Smash reached its target, Ultra was surrounded by deep blue and black energy. Whatever happened inside this energy storm was blocked by the two pills… until they vanished, revealing the young Ultra Beast trainer wearing a sort of large armor with a glowing blue vortex in the stomach area.
"Sorry, but I think those were yours." Ultra said, smiling from pure joy at having pulled this off. "Here, have 'em back!" he said, the vortex spitting out the pills back at Dr. Mario.
"Mamma...mia!" Dr. Mario said as the pills hit him and sent him into the air.
"Here comes the clincher!" Ultra called. "Dragon Pulse!"
The vortex then shot out a purple shockwave that shot towards and hit the doctor.
"Oh...no!" Dr. Mario cried out as he was sent flying far away.
"And that is match! The winner is...Ultraman!" Chi Ta called out.
Ultra and his present Ultra Beasts appeared back in the arena, he and Guzzlord canceling their Burst before the trainer waved to his teammates.
"You see that?! We did that! We won" Ultra smiled, gesturing to his Ultra Beasts. "I finally got my Perfect Link with Guzzlord fixed! We finally got Ultra Burst back!"
The trainer seemed to be on Cloud 9 as he hugged the Ultra Beast known as Glutton as the crowd cheered. Eventually, the boy returned his partners before he walked out of the arena.
"Woo, now that's how you start a tournament off right!" Ethox said.
"Indeed. Seems he's done well." Dr. Revive said.
"Yes, he's taken another step on the way to recover from what happened with the Hidden Band." Mirror Match said. "True, they were weak, but their tactics and methods really hurt him."
"But now...he's on the road to recovery." DJ said.
"Wow...that was incredible. So this is how these fights will play out." Jexi said.
"I'm excited to get in there now. It'll be a fun time." Hope said.
"And this is but one of many battles to come." Theo said.
