White…

When I opened my eyes, all I saw was white…

Then the rush of pain…

I all of a sudden was having a hard time breathing, and once my eyes adjusted I realized what was happening. I was on a stretcher being rushed to the Emergency Room.

"How did this happen?" I thought, and then it hit me, the accident. Then all of a sudden I remembered my sister's face and if I wasn't severely hurt I would have jumped of the stretcher

"Where's… my sister…" I weakly said. My voice was drowned out by the paramedics talking and the mask that was on my face giving me oxygen.

"Patient 1 is stirring, he seems to be in immense pain, let's put him back under." said one of the nurses.

Through the mask came the sleeping gas and the last thing that I heard was "Can we get a status update on patient 2?"

"Patient 2 is still unresponsive…"

My dreams were filled with my sister. It was as if I saw all my best moments with her. She was always smiling and having a good time dragging me out into her wild adventures. But on the last memory, I immediately recognized where I was at. I was at the intersection, but I couldn't move. The gas station doors opened and my eyes widened in fear. I tried to yell at my sister, to warn her, but I was completely frozen in place, unable to use my mouth. I saw the truck coming, and all of a sudden I was able to move. I ran to try and push my sister out of the way, desperate to avoid the same outcome as last time. I almost reached her, just like last time, but the truck was faster.

"AAAH!" I screamed, waking up from my terrible dream. My heart was beating fast, but something felt off. I felt an immense pain in my heart. My hands were on my chest trying to stop the pain, but pushing on it made the pain worse.

I took a look at my surroundings. I was in a hospital bed surrounded by machinery. I had a breathing mask on, and many different syringes were inserted into my body, each one shooting a different fluid into me. I looked out the window and I saw the moon shining

While I was inspecting my surroundings, I remembered everything that happened and tons of questions flooded my mind

Where's Komachi…

Is she okay…

Did they catch the person who did this…

Who called the paramedics for us…

Why do I feel an immense pain in my chest when my heart beats too fast…

I had to find out where my sister was, but even I knew that in my current state I wouldn't get very far.

"I have to try, for her."

I took off the oxygen mask, and was immediately hit with a wave of dizziness. It was so intense that I fell off the bed and onto the floor. There was a loud clattering as some of the machines that were attached to me hit the floor.

"Oh no!" I thought, "If the nurses see me I won't be able to find out what happened."

Faster heart beats… more pain…

Luckily, after about a minute of silence, no nurses came into the room.

"Good they didn't hear me."

I struggled to get to my feet, as both of my ankles were hurting terribly, but eventually I was able to with the help of the wall. Following the wall to the door, I limped out of the room. There were no nurses in the hallway that I was in, so I was able to peer into each of the doors and look at each patient, desperate to find the only patient that mattered to me. As I checked each room I neared the lobby. Around the corner, in the lobby I heard two people talking.

I recognized one of the voices as Shizuka Hiratsuka, my homeroom teacher and close family friend. I didn't recognize the other voice but by the way he was talking I assumed that he was the main doctor in charge of the hospital. They seemed to have just started their conversation and I listened in.

"So how are they?" asks Hiratsuka-Sensei, sounding desperate for any good news.

There was silence, then the doctor spoke.

"We did all we could, but unfortunately… the sister was pronounced dead upon arrival…"

My eyes widened and I felt a huge wave of pain from my chest. I fell to my knees, I was having trouble breathing.

My sister… dead…?

This can't be true…

I could hear Hiratsuka-Sensei sobbing uncontrollably around the corner. I was also crying but I didn't want to be audible because I wanted to hear the rest of the conversation.

"What about… the boy?" Hiratsuka-Sensei asked when she had managed to calm down a little.

"The boy was being treated for critical heart and chest damage when he arrived, he needed a heart transplant. We couldn't find a donated heart that met his profile on such short notice… until we turned to his sister…"

Oh no…

"...she met his blood type, was about the right size, and was recently deceased so her heart was still in perfect condition…"

I don't like where this is going…

"... she and the boy signed up to be organ donors about a year ago if they were to ever have an unfortunate accident like this…"

My dizziness started to overtake me as I realized exactly what was going on.

"...so, with an emergency heart transplant we were able to save the boy…"

I was now shaking uncontrollably, the pain in my chest was too much to handle, my… no, her heart was beating so fast.

*thud*

The Doctor and Sensei heard a noise from around the corner. They looked around to see Hikigaya Hachiman in a hospital gown, passed on the floor.

Authors Note

Thanks for reading the second chapter, I know it's a little bit darker, but I feel it is important to set up for the rest of the series. I got some inspiration for this chapter from an old anime I used to watch. If I messed up on anything, please feel free to point it out to me. Also I would love it if you leave a review and tell me how I am doing. I read each one.

See you on the next chapter-Gabriel
