"Hikigaya Hachiman won't be joining us in class for a while, due to… personal reasons." said Hiratsuka-Sensei, responding to a question on Hachiman's absence.

Yui Yuigahama, a clubmate and friend of Hachiman, was immediately suspicious of this answer. Hachiman was one of the smartest students in the school if not the smartest. He once tried to come to school even though he had the flu, that's how important it was to him. That fact mixed with the tears at the brims of Sensei's eyes was enough to let Yui know that something was very wrong with Hachiman.

After class Yui approached Sensei after class with her concerns.

"Sensei, what's going on with Hikki, he would never miss school unless he was extremely injured…" she trailed off, then her eyes widened "IS HE EXTREMELY INJURED?!" she yelled.

Sensei looked away from Yui, avoiding eye contact.

"Sensei, if something is wrong, you can tell me. I can handle it."

Sensei stared at the girl and eventually said, "He lost someone dear to him and he isn't in any shape to return to school."

Yui thought on what she had just heard.

He said that his parents died when he was young, he doesn't have any friends besides me and Yukino, and his only relative is… Her eyes widened.

"Did his sister die?" She asked with her mouth open from shock and tears threatening to flood from her eyes.

Sensei didn't even need to answer because the silence that followed answered the question for her.

Hiratsuka-Sensei couldn't control herself anymore, she burst into tears and cried silently at her desk. Yui was crying also while she gave her Sensei a hug and tried to comfort her. If Komachi's death had affected Sensei this much, how much more would it affect Hachiman. Yui was worried, even before this, Hachiman's mental health wasn't the greatest. His sister was the one relative he had left, how would her death affect his life.

Once Hiratsuka-Sensei calmed down, she told Yui the what happened. From the incident to the emergency heart transplant.

"Is he okay, mentally?"

"I don't know, they won't let me see him because of all the machinery in the room."

Yui was very worried for Hachiman and wanted to ask Sensei more questions, but just as she opened her mouth, she got a text from Yukino Yukinoshita (the president of the service club and Hachiman's only other friend besides Yui).

Where are you? You are late, is Hikigaya-kun with you, I haven't seen him today.

"I've got to go,Sensei, Yukinon is wondering where I am..." said Yui, trying to stop crying, "... and if you hear anything about him, you will text me, right?"

"I promise I will." said Sensei, giving her a parting hug.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yukino Yukinoshita was annoyed, the other members of the club were missing. She expected this from Yui, who was late almost every time, but Hachiman, he was almost never late. In fact, he was usually early to their meetings.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the club door being opened. She braced herself for Yui's loud greeting and the hug that usually came after, but all she heard when Yui stepped in, was silence.

Yukino took one look at Yui and knew immediately that something was wrong. Yui was shaking uncontrollably and she looked like she had just bawled her eyes out.

"What is wrong Yuigahama-san?" said Yukino in a comforting voice, figuring that Yui got dumped by some guy she was dating.

"His sister… is gone…" Yui whimpered, starting to cry again.

Yukino's eyes widened in shock.

"Who's sister?" she asked, although she had a pretty good idea who Yui was talking about.

"Hikki's sister…" Yui whispered, turning paler by the second.

Yukino was shocked, Hikigaya's sister was gone? She had just gone shopping with her this weekend and she seemed perfectly fine.

And Hikigaya-kun…

Oh God… how bad would this affect him…

Komachi was the world to him…

…

After a period of Yui crying and total silence from Yukino. Yukino asked Yui to tell her what happened. Yui told her everything that Hiratsuka-Sensei said, along with her own personal worries for Hachiman. Yukino agreed with these worries, she knew how much that Komachi meant to Hachiman.

After Yui finished, there was a period of silence between them. Then Yukino spoke.

"Uh.. I guess the right thing to do… would be to cancel the club meeting today…"

"Yukinon… can we go see Hikki?"

Yukino thought for a moment.

"Yeah let's go see him…"

This chapter was written to answer the question, "What's going on with the other main characters, while Hachiman is in the hospital?"
