Though he held her time in his hands, she held his heart in hers.
Chrno could understand her need to save her brother, but that fact never made her line of work easy for him. He hated watching her struggle, despised every beast like him that dared to hurt her in any way. Most of all, he could not stand being unable to help her.
Of course, he could help, but in the end it would only hurt her even more. He couldn't bear to be the one to inflict further pain. Much of her pain was his fault already.
