I cast a nonverbal spell to secure the room. The spell I case secured the doors so they wouldn't be able to be opened and prevented apparition.
Sensing my spell had taken hold, Draco jumped up and began to Stupefy as many people as possible. I joined in to the chaos a moment later. We were fighting back-to-back. Two against a room full of people evil enough to believe in Voldemort was not the greatest odds, but we were skilled in ways that they were not and had spent countless hours training together.
Our spells flowed smoothly and Draco and I worked as an extension of one another. I could sense what spell he was going to use before he even started. Spell after spell was cast. The room was a war zone of falling debris and screams. We ducked this way and that as we continued to fight and bring down one after another. After what felt like hours, but was in reality probably less than fifteen minutes, we had subdued the entire room. Not that we came out completely unscathed. Draco and I would both need to be seen by medics, but it was nothing dire.
Before I secured the room, I activated the coin in my pocket to let Harry know our location and that the time was now. He arrived just after we put the magic dampener on the last supporter with a team to help escort the prisoners to Azkaban.
While the team cleaned up our mess, Harry approached us. "Great work you two. I can't believe after all these years we've finally caught him!"
"It was nothing Harry, just doing our jobs." Draco nodded beside me. I could tell he was still a bit tense from everything and now that I looked at him, I was thinking he looked a bit more pale than usual. "Are you alright Draco?"
"I'll be fine, but I think we better grab our things and hit up St. Mungos sooner rather than later."
It was then that I noticed his hand, which had been placed on his hip and I hadn't thought too much about, now had thin ribbons of red seeping between his fingers.
"Harry, you can get someone to grab our things and bring them to the Ministry, yeah? We need to go."
Draco tried to protest, but Harry agreed with me. "Yes, please go now. We will get things taken care of here and arrange for everything to be brought back. Get yourselves taken care of and then when you're cleared, come back in to close things up."
I nodded and, before he could object again, apparated Draco and myself to St. Mungos. Being fairly high-profile faces, we were rushed quite quickly back to different exam rooms. I tried desperately to put my needs on hold to be able to stay with Draco, but as I am not family, they wouldn't allow it. Besides, I needed a bit more medical attention than I realized. A curse had hit my arm that I didn't feel and needed immediate reversal if I didn't want permanent damage. It had hit my scar where I had little feeling so I had hardly noticed it myself.
When we were both finished with our treatment, we were required to stay for an hour while our healing completed. At this time, we were finally given a joint room and left alone.
Draco still looked pale, but better than before. He was fairly groggy so I took it upon myself to enlarge his bed and climb in rather than stare at him from across the room. His arm instantly wrapped around me.
"There's my girl. We did it!" His smile was weak and I could tell he wasn't completely passed the pain.
"Yes, we did. How are you?" My tone was worried, but I couldn't help it.
Sure, we caught Lestrange, but that feeling of worry upon seeing Draco bleeding through his fingers was not something I was likely to forget anytime soon. It only made it more clear to me the level of feelings I had developed for the man next to me.
"I'm fine, lovely. No need to worry. The healers took great care of me and the pain is almost gone already. How about you? Everything ok?" There was a hint of panic in his eyes. Now that his pain was receding, he seemed to realize that I was still here instead of being released immediately.
"A small curse, but it's been reversed. It should be cleared up shortly."
We sat there in silence for a few minutes before a grin broke on Draco's face. "That was bloody amazing. I have never worked with someone and been so in sync."
I nodded along. He was right, working together was incredible. I had never felt more powerful, it was like we were an extension of each other and the focus and skill was quite remarkable. It's nothing I had ever achieved with someone else. "I'm so glad our work paid off. All of our sources were correct, but to hear him actually vocalize his plans as he tried to indoctrinate more into his awful group, well, this could have been bad. I'm glad you were here to recognize him too. Not many people were close enough to him to have been able to do that."
His face was grim. "I'm not proud of my past. At least the trials I went through are proving useful in prevention of something like that ever happening again."
"I completely agree. And I don't think your past is something to be ashamed of, Draco. It wasn't your fault and you fought like hell to rid yourself of it. It's made you the man you are today and I think he is pretty great." I bumped his shoulder playfully.
He swallowed hard and nodded. "Let's see about getting out of here to go give our reports. I'd really like to get home."
I sent a call request and the healer came in shortly. All of our vitals had returned to normal and we were cleared to leave without restrictions. Thankfully, I still had my purse which had a spare set of clothes for us both. No need to show up to the office still in our formal wear.
We arrived at the auror office to a bustle of activity. All of our things had been moved to our office and Draco and I secured the necessary files we would need during the final briefing before knocking on Harry's door.
"Great! How are you both? All ok?"
"A few curses aren't going to keep us down, Potter. I'd like to get all this down while it's fresh though."
Harry nodded. "Of course. Let's go to the conference room. I'll get your statements, copies of your notes, and a vial of your memories for the records. After that, I'm sending you both home and you're to take the next three days off." His face was stern and his finger pointed in a way that told me not to argue. So I laughed instead. "But you're welcome to come to the Leaky tomorrow night. A bunch of us are getting together for happy hour."
"We'll do whatever you need as long as I can get home and take a good long soak." I caught Draco looking at me out of the corner of his eye and his brow raised. My face heated. Yes, a nice soak with Draco was just what I needed after the events of the last week. "Thanks for the invite."
Harry hadn't made head auror for being an idiot. He didn't miss the exchange. "While I support this," He motioned with his hand between us. "that's NOT an image I need thank you very much."
Draco rolled his eyes. "Let's get on with it, Potter."
