Year: 1982

Action: Unnoticeably, a seventeen year old Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) stands on a riverbank. She witnesses several baptisms. One baptism in particular, James Ellison's baptism intrigues her. Unashamed, James praises the lord even in his young age. Sarah wonders if she can be as happy and free as him. James introduces himself to Sarah after the ceremony. He invites her to attend a service at his church. Sarah hops back and forth between heaven and hell.

Time Period: Between June 1983 and February 1984

James and Sarah remain close best friends until Kyle Reese distracts Sarah. Kyle becomes Sarah's whole entire world. She starts to believes more in Skynet than Jesus Christ. Her pregnancy announcement completely shocks James. He had high hopes for them. Before Sarah leaves for Central America, she gives James a picture of herself as a goodbye gift. Many years pass before they would see each other again.

Time Period: During the years of 1991 and 1997

Rodney King's brutal beating inspires James to become a police officer. All of his hard work at the police academy didn't prepare him for Myles Dyson's murder case. His friend, Sarah Connor (Lena Headey) is under fire. James doesn't help her even on the day when she checks in and out of the mental hospital. She and John (Thomas Dekker) continue to be a distant memory.

Year: 1999
Cameron, Sarah, and John rob a bank. They died in the bank explosion and so James thought.

Time Period: During the years of 2007, 2008, and 2009
Like a violent hurricane, Sarah and John destroy James' life. Protecting them cost James everything including his faith. Their ability to trust James comes and goes with time. Sarah rescued him from a house fire, that's the one thing keeping James hopeful about their relationship. After John abandons Sarah and cancer shows its ugly face, James carries her through it all.
