Hello there everyone, I'm back with the next chapter for you all. You guys seemed to really enjoy the last one, which I was so glad to see. And now in this update we're gonna get a little more into Casey's first day in his new role at the firehouse, and how that's going for him and everyone there. I hope you enjoy it!
But really quick before we get into this, I do want to let you all know that I'm gonna be going out of town this week (and I'll be gone until early in December), so I'm not sure what my updating schedule will look like during that time. I know for certain I won't be able to get an update out to you all next week, but past that I'm not sure. I am going to try and get some writing done while I'm gone, but I just never know if I'll have time or not, so we'll have to see how it goes.
I know I mentioned all of this in my last Whatever Comes Next chapter, but I wanted to say it again for those who missed it/don't read that story. So to recap, there won't be an update for this story next week, and there will not be an update for Whatever Comes Next this Thursday either. After that, we'll just have to see. But I'll try my best to get an update to you all as soon as I can!
That's pretty much all I've got for you all. Thank you so much for understanding, and for now I hope you all enjoy this one.
Thanks for reading everyone, and I'll see you next time!
Chapter One Hundred and Fifty Seven
Dawson stood back by the counter in the common room while the last few members of 51 got their lunch, her easily prepared meal of sandwiches and a few sides going over well with the group as they were all more than ready to eat.
"Thanks again, Dawson." Otis spoke as he grabbed an apple from the bowl in the middle of the counter. "All of this looks great."
"Yeah, thanks Dawson." Herrmann chimed in, Gabby giving them a thankful smile before she nodded.
"It wasn't any trouble, but you're welcome." She responded, movement in the corner of her eye catching her attention as she saw her husband come into the room from the side door, the soft smile already on her face causing him to match her look while he walked around the counter towards her.
"Oh would you look at that, our fearless leader finally managed to pull himself away from all his work." Cruz teased from his seat at the table, Casey waving him off as a few laughs were heard from the room.
"Yeah, I don't think I like that nickname so much." Matt replied shortly after their laughing died down, as this was at least the second time they'd called him that today. "You can just stick with Casey, or Chief." He continued on, Joe eyeing him closely before he spoke up.
"Is that an order?" He asked him, his joking tone earning some more chuckles as Casey raised his eyebrows while zeroing in on his firefighter, Gabby doing her best to bite back her smile while standing beside her husband.
"...Not necessarily, no." Casey finally answered, his words causing Cruz's smile to widen.
"Then I think the nickname will be sticking around, Chief." Joe replied without missing a beat, Gabby laughing softly underneath her breath while Matt began to shake his head.
"Mhmm… we'll see about that." Casey muttered before turning his attention back towards Gabby, seeing her standing there with two prepared plates already in front of her. "Hey there." He finally greeted, her eyes looking up at him before a soft smile covered her lips.
"Hi… I see you finally took my advice and came out here. How are things going?" She asked him with a soft grin, as she hadn't seen her husband since stopping by his new office earlier this morning.
"Pretty good… Busy, but good." He answered her as he reached out to rest his hand over her lower back, Gabby feeling the warmth of his palm through her shirt almost instantly before leaning back into his touch.
"You're that busy already, Casey?" Severide asked as he came up to the counter to get his food, Matt looking away from Gabby to glance towards him. "You haven't even been out on any calls yet." He added with a sheepish look, Matt scoffing playfully despite the fact that his friend's words were true.
While 51 had a relatively steady morning in terms of calls, none of those required the services of their new Battalion Chief. So even though Matt was all ready to get out there and fully take on his new job, the city of Chicago hadn't necessarily cooperated with that, which left him stuck at the house for most of the day so far. Though a part of him figured that maybe that was a good thing, as the slow pace allowed him more time to get his feet under him instead of him being thrown head first into his new role.
But on the other hand, with all the nervous energy still rushing through him Matt couldn't help but just want to get out there and get his first call over and done with, as he knew that anxious feeling wouldn't go away until he had a call or two under his belt.
"The paperwork is really slowing you down, huh?" Severide continued to tease, Casey fighting off the urge to roll his eyes before he responded.
"Yeah, well it takes a lot to look after all of you." He joked back, some of his first responders laughing while Severide shook his head. "You all are a full time job by yourselves, I don't know how Boden ever put up with all of it."
"Honestly, the man has a point." Herrmann chimed in from the couch, Severide waving him off before looking back towards Casey.
"Thank you, Herrmann." Casey responded, getting a thumbs up from the older man before he continued. "But yeah Sev, there's a lot more to this job than just firefighting. Paperwork included." He continued on while walking around the counter to stand next to his friend, Matt not missing the almost proud look on Kelly's face before he spoke up.
"Which is exactly why you'll never find me envious of you, or this job." He joked, Casey chuckling softly in response while shaking his head.
But he didn't get the chance to respond to him before the bells rang out above their heads, Matt's mood shifting in an instant when they heard main rattle off all companies needed to a building fire a few blocks away, the air around them changing as Casey could feel some eyes on him.
"Well, it looks like it's go time." Severide spoke as he placed his plate back down on the counter, the Lieutenant clasping his friend on the shoulder before heading towards the garage. "It's time for your first call, Chief."
"Yeah, let's get out there Chief Casey." Mouch added on lightly, Matt drawing in a deep breath before he and Gabby began to head out of the room, following in the familiar direction they always went out into the garage.
But there was one big difference though, one Matt barely remembered until he had already passed his own rig while he followed Gabby around the back of squad. It was what he had always done, as they were just so used to walking in that direction together, Matt's mind involuntarily taking him towards truck 81. But after a few seconds he realized his mistake as he remembered that wasn't his rig anymore, Casey shaking his head slightly before he stopped abruptly in his path and began to head back in the direction he just came as he retraced a few of his steps.
And while he'd caught his mistake early, he hadn't caught in time for Gabby to miss it as the PIC slowed her steps down to watch him hurry back to his rig, the woman shaking her head lightly just as they made eye contact.
"You remember where you're going there, Chief?" She asked him with a sly grin, her light voice causing Casey to laugh as he continued his backwards steps.
"I think I can figure it out." He replied with a wink, the two sharing one last longing look before going to their respective rigs and heading out to the call.
Pulling up to the scene while 81 and squad 3 behind him, Casey put his vehicle in park before all but jumping out of his rig, the new Chief placing his helmet on his head while taking in the sight in front of him. The fire was already blazing, the building almost completely up in flames as it was becoming clear to him that this was a structure that had been burning for a while, which was something that would definitely force them to work a little faster as Casey saw people already hurrying from all exits of the building.
"Alright, 51 we need to do this carefully, and quickly." Casey began to speak while his firefighters climbed down from their rigs. "Squad, get in there and begin your sweep on the top floor." He ordered while looking at Severide, his friend immediately nodding before he began to give his own instructions to his firefighters. "61, you're in charge of triage." He added, Gabby nodding before turning towards her partner, while Casey looked to Herrmann. "Truck, let's get these people to the medics then take over the sweep of the first floor. We need to make this fast people, we don't have much time."
After listening to his strong orders, his first responders went to work as they began to do as they were told, Matt helping where he could with the victims outside until he had his men in the building. But once squad and truck were inside, he shifted his focus to the fire, Matt keeping his eyes on the burning structure while he listened to everything he could hear through his radio.
From the lack of firefighters coming out from the building, Casey could only imagine that most people had managed to get out on their own, but still the first responders continued on with their sweep, as they wanted to make sure they hadn't missed anyone.
But the longer they were inside, the more unsure Casey began to feel while the fire continued burning into the sky, the man shaking his head slightly as he watched the smoke begin to turn black.
"Severide, Herrmann, how's it looking?" He asked into his radio while his eyes flashed back towards the mayhem behind him, seeing Gabby having taken control of triage and everything going on with the victims, Matt knowing he had nothing to worry about there as his wife had it all handled.
"Looking pretty bad in here, Chief." Herrmann came back first, Casey grimacing while another high flame burst out through the broken windows.
"There's a lot of smoke in here, it's hard to see. But we have a few more rooms to check." Severide added, his words accompanied by a quick flash of fire out of the roof. One that left Casey with a bad feeling in his gut as he had seen this too many times before.
And it hardly ever ended well.
"Alright, I'm calling it." Casey spoke suddenly, Gabby looking up from her spot by the rig as she heard his voice come through the radio. "Everyone get out of there."
"Got it, Chief… Truck, let's get out of here." Herrmann responded, Matt drawing in a deep breath as his eyes moved up to the second floor where squad currently was.
"...Severide?" Casey asked after a second when he had yet to hear any sort of response from his squad Lieutenant.
"I'm sending some guys out," His voice finally came through the radio. "But there's only two more rooms, Cruz and I are gonna sweep them." He continued on, Casey immediately shaking his head before taking a step towards the building, while his other firefighters continued to get out.
"No, Severide. There's not time." He spoke strongly. "You and Cruz get out of there now."
"Casey, we can do it. It's not too bad in the North side of the building, we-"
"This isn't a suggestion." Casey barked, his voice leaving no room for argument while he ignored some of the stares he was getting from his men. "Get out of there, now!"
It went quiet on the other end for a moment, Casey gripping his radio tightly before Severide's voice finally came through.
"We're coming out."
His words were short, clearly showing his displeasure for Casey's decision. But Matt didn't care so much about that as all he was concerned about right now was getting his firefighters out of that building.
Which thankfully happened just seconds before another loud burst of fire from the top floor, Severide and Cruz getting out just in time as tall flames continued to lick the sky, no doubt doing unimaginable damage inside the building. But despite that, Casey still saw some uncertainty from Severide as he and Cruz were pulled away from the building, the two officers sharing a tense look as they passed by one another.
But Casey knew now wasn't the time to focus on it, Matt moving back into Chief mode as he continued giving orders to his men now that they were all outside of the building, their main goal now being to get the fire out before they could go and assess any of the damage left behind.
Casey blew out a heavy breath as he walked through the quiet hallways of 51, a couple dozen thoughts running through his mind while making his way towards his destination, as he hadn't been able to quite shake everything that happened on that call this afternoon.
He made the right decision, or he was pretty sure he had, as Matt couldn't help some of the doubts lingering in his system after his first call as a Chief. But what he knew for sure was that Severide wasn't necessarily happy with him because of what happened out there today. At least at the time, he hadn't been. Even after they did their sweep of the building and, thankfully, found out that there was no one still inside, things between the two of them still felt a little off, and Matt didn't like it.
And that feeling was exactly why Matt now found himself walking into the bunkroom towards his friend's office, the same one he'd been in many times, as Casey knew the best thing he could do right now was to clear the air with Kelly before this went any further.
When he stepped into the room, Casey found Severide exactly where he expected him to be, his friend sitting quietly at his desk while working on some paperwork. The Lieutenant had left his door open, giving Matt the in he needed as he came to a stop in his doorway before leaning against the frame slightly, the new Chief staying waiting quietly for Severide to recognize his presence.
Which he soon did, Kelly glancing back within a few seconds when he felt someone else in the room with him, the man clearly surprised to see Matt standing there. But once he regained himself, his face faltered slightly, Severide breathing in deeply before he dropped his pen on his desk and turned his chair towards his best friend, who was now his boss.
Neither of them said anything for a moment, Casey unsure of exactly where Kelly's head was at, even though he seemed to be a bit more receptive to him than he had been earlier, now that they'd both had some time for their high emotions to wear off. But still, Severide hadn't said anything, Matt taking another breath before he finally spoke up.
"I, uh… Look, about that last call," He started, shaking his head slightly as he figured it best to just get right into it. "I know we both saw things differently, and you weren't really happy with me for getting you out. That you wanted some more time inside to try and help. But that's the exact reason I called you all out when I did, because I knew you didn't have any. That building was going, and the last thing I wanted was for you all to be inside." He said quickly, his voice strong despite the speed of his words, Severide giving him his complete attention as he continued. "But I also know what it feels like to be on the other side of that, I know how hard it is to get out of those buildings when you feel like you need to do more… But that situation, there was nothing else for you or Cruz to do. So when I tell you to get out, I need you to listen to me."
Severide waited a moment to take in his words, before he slowly nodded, Matt's eyebrows raising slightly in response.
"Alright, Chief." He answered simply, seeing the slight look of confusion that appeared over Casey's face before his body relaxed a bit, Matt taking a small step inside while Kelly continued to watch him.
"Alright?" He asked back, Severide now being the one to raise his brows before he nodded.
"Yeah, alright… I understand." He repeated himself, his calm voice surprising Casey a bit as he had expected more of an argument from his somewhat stubborn friend. "You don't need to explain yourself… If fact, if anything, as the Chief I don't think that's in the job description." He teased lightly, Matt unable to stop the soft scoff that left his lips before he continued into the room, the air around them much lighter than it had been earlier in the day as nearly all of the tension between them was gone. "But really Casey, you don't need to be explaining yourself, or apologizing. You made the call you did, and I have to respect that." He finished, Matt drawing in a deep breath before speaking up.
"No, I know that. But this is also my first day as a Chief, and I… It's gonna take some time for us to adjust to this. Me being your boss." He spoke, Severide looking over him for a moment before he nodded, as both men were well aware of the shift in their dynamic. And it was one they couldn't pretend didn't exist.
Casey had been in charge of him before, out in the field and on calls when Boden wasn't there, Matt was typically the one to run things given his former rank as a Captain, so this wasn't entirely foreign to them. But while they had some of that familiarity in their new roles, this was also something different, as Matt had never been the highest ranking officer in their house before. They weren't used to that type of dynamic between them, Casey being the one to have complete say as to what Severide, and everyone else did.
He was in charge of them all the time now, not just whenever Boden wasn't there. And there was no way to ignore how that changed things between them, the call today showing clearly just how different everything was now.
But neither man wanted it to change things between them too much either, not to the point where it would strain their relationship, especially as it had happened too many times in the past.
"And so that's why I wanted to talk to you, because what happened today is definitely gonna happen again." Casey eventually continued on. "You and I both know, it happened with Boden all the time. But us and Boden was a little different than you and me, so I just wanted to make sure we're good. And that you understand why I did what I did…"
"I do, man." Severide told him soon after he finished speaking, Casey offering him a small smile before he nodded. "And we are good, you don't need to worry about that… You were right out on that call today. I was too focused to see it, but you were right to get us out of there when you did. You made the right call." He assured him, it nearly impossible for Kelly to miss the look that flashed in Casey's eyes when he said those last few words, as Severide soon began to understand more and more what this was about.
And it wasn't just because of them disagreeing on that call.
"...And you don't need to doubt that." Severide added on, Matt's eyes softening once he finished speaking before Kelly gave him a strong nod. "You don't need to doubt yourself, or the decisions you make… You're the Chief, what you say goes. So you need to trust that… even when your firefighters are being a pain in the ass." He spoke lightly, Casey releasing a soft chuckle before shaking his head.
"But really Casey, you made the right call… You trusted your gut, like you should've. And probably saved Cruz and I in the process. So trust that, cause there's a reason everyone wanted you for this job… Boden chose you for a reason. So have some faith in that."
Severide's words went straight to his heart before he slowly nodded, it taking some time for Matt to gather his thoughts as he hadn't entirely expected their conversation to go this way when he first walked in here. But he was more than grateful for it, as Kelly's assurances meant more to him than he realized.
"Thanks Sev." He responded, Severide offering him a soft smile before he nodded. "All of this is still just a little weird to me, not having anyone to look to for what to do. I'm not really used to all this." He finished with a dry laugh, Kelly giving him an understanding look.
"Yeah, I get it man. But you did great out there today… Even if we didn't really agree, you still did a good job." He continued on, as Matt leaned his back against the wall. "So don't keep second guessing yourself, because no one out there does. And you have no reason to."
"Thank you, Kelly." He repeated, Severide nodding before a sly grin appeared over his face.
"You got it… But just because I believe in you, that doesn't mean I won't keep testing you." He said with a laugh, Casey matching his look before he began to shake his head slightly, the new Chief just glad to have cleared the air with him after the stressful call earlier.
"Yeah… I don't doubt that for a second."
Matt sat quietly at his desk while staring down at the stack of paperwork in front of him, his pen tapping rhythmically against the pile as he did his best to focus on what already seemed to be a never ending amount of papers.
He was used to doing a lot of paperwork, as it was just a part of the job. Especially once he'd become a Captain. But now that he was a Chief, it seemed to be something else entirely, as even with him only going on one call today, he already managed to have so much he needed to get done. Because now, it wasn't just his calls he had to worry about it; it was everyone's. Every single call the house went out on, was now literally in his hands, and even though he knew that coming into this job, he'd certainly underestimated the amount of paperwork that came with it.
But he was trying his best to work through it, Matt knowing he wanted to get as much of this done on shift as he possibly could so he wouldn't have to bring much home with him. Even though it was looking like an inevitability that he wouldn't be able to finish this all before tomorrow morning, he was going to try his best so it wouldn't cut too much into his time with the girls.
Despite his efforts to get his work done, he was only able to get maybe another page finished before he suddenly heard the sound of little feet running on the tile floor, Matt's attention being pulled elsewhere as a soft smile began to form on his face before he looked out into the bullpen, being met by the sight of his daughters' running towards his office.
He hadn't expected to see them here today, but right now he didn't care about that one bit as he tossed his pen down onto the desk and turned in his seat as they hurried in through his open door.
"Daddy!" Caitlyn was the first one to greet him, a similar welcome soon coming from Sofia as they ran around his desk to get to him. Though with her longer legs, Caitlyn was able to get to him first.
"Hi my babies." He replied with just as much enthusiasm as Caity jumped up into his lap, the six year old hugging him tightly for a second before moving out of the way to give her baby sister room.
"Hi Daddy." Caitlyn repeated, sitting on his leg while Matt reached down to help lift Sofia up to sit across from her, Casey seeing in the baby's movements how she was desperate to be picked up as well.
"Yeah, come here baby." He murmured while helping Sofia into his lap, the near two year old grabbing onto his shirt to help pull herself up, before she settled into his hold, Sof almost instantly leaning into his chest while she continued to greet him.
"I missed you." Caity added on, Matt wrapping his arms around both his girls before glancing down towards his older daughter, her big brown eyes looking up at him with a soft smile resting over her face.
"I missed you, too. Both of you." He responded, watching her smile grow before he leaned down to press kisses to both of their heads. "I didn't know you were coming to visit today."
Caitlyn began to nod once he finished speaking, while Sofia pulled herself back from his embrace slightly, both of his daughters completely captivated by him while they enjoyed this time being back with their father.
"Becca got me from dance, and we came to see you and Mommy." Caitlyn began to explain, a knowing look crossing Casey's face as he was just now noticing his oldest daughter's attire of a pink leotard and shorts, which was what she typically wore to and from her dance class. "We wanted to surprise you!" She added on happily, Matt's smile widening slightly as he nodded.
"Pise! You!" Sofia repeated with a slobbery grin, her broken words causing a soft laugh to leave Casey's lips before he kissed her head once more.
"Well, I love this surprise, I'm so glad you came to see me." He told them, seeing a genuine smile appear over Caitlyn's features before she nodded, Matt rubbing his hand along her back while glancing back out towards the bullpen. "Does your Momma know you're here?"
"Mhmm." The six year old hummed. "She's with Uncle Kelly, they were talking." She continued on, earning a nod from her father while Sofia began to make herself busy by messing with the buttons on Casey's shirt, the little girl now fascinated by that more than anything else. "But Mommy said I could come and find you, and I did." Caitlyn added on proudly, Matt chuckling under his breath once more. "She helped me some. And I brought Sof, cause she wanted to see you too. She kept asking for Daddy, so I helped her cause she's little and didn't know where you were."
Matt listened intently as Caitlyn told him nearly every thought in her head, before smiling softly back at his daughter. "Thank you for helping your sister, baby." He replied, Caity matching his grin before she nodded.
But her attention wasn't on him for much longer as Caitlyn soon began to look around the somewhat unfamiliar space, her eyes taking everything in for a few seconds while Sofia continued playing with his shirt.
"I like your office." Caity spoke suddenly, Matt beginning to follow her lead as he looked around as well, before glancing back down to find his daughter's eyes on him. "Do you like it?"
"I do." He answered her, seeing her grin widen before she began to look around once more.
"Can I see?" She asked, Casey soon understanding what she was wanting as he gave her a sturdy nod.
"Yeah, you can look around honey." He told her, Caitlyn nodding back at him before she began to slide down off his lap, Matt helping to guide her until she was steady on her feet.
As she walked around his desk and over to the table underneath the window, Matt adjusted his younger daughter in his lap, Sofia leaning back against his chest while looking over at her sister, the baby babbling away to herself even though Casey was able to make out most of what she was seeing.
"There's so many pictures." Caitlyn spoke up as she stood in front of the table, her little hands holding onto the edge while her eyes moved over all the different framed photos he had set up in front of her. There were a few different ones of their family; some with the four of them, while there were others with just his girls, along with a couple of Sofia and Caitlyn.
"Yeah, there are… I told you I was gonna have lots of photos of us, remember sweetheart?" He reminded her, the six year old nodding while she continued to look over the pictures, before a soft gasp left her lips.
"It's me and Sof!" She spoke happily while pointing to one of the frames on the end, Matt chuckling softly as he wrapped his arm around Sofia's stomach.
He knew what photo she was talking about before he even looked, as Caitlyn had seen the picture of her and her sister at the park, the two young girls sitting at the top of one of their favorite slides. It was a pretty typical picture, one they surely had dozens like it, but that one in particular was one that Casey loved very much because it had been taken on a day where he hadn't been able to be there. When he'd been working and Gabby had taken them to the park, their mother snapping a photo for him of the two of them with bright smiles on their faces while Sofia sat in front of her sister.
It was simple, but Matt loved it, so he'd made a point to make sure he got it put up in his office.
"Yeah, it is baby." He mused, Caitlyn turning back to look at him with a bright grin on her face, before she continued to look back at the pictures. "I have a few more of you all over there, too. Along with some of your drawings." Casey added on, nodding across the room towards the small bulletin board on the wall, Caitlyn's eyes lighting up as she began to skip past his desk.
"Wow, you do have a lot." She commented while she moved, Matt grinning from ear to ear as he knew just how true his daughter's were, the father having set up as many pictures as he could as he wanted those memories of his family close by. "Look! It's my picture of all of us!" Caity spoke happily while she looked up at the board, seeing one of many drawings pinned up in front of her, accompanied by a photo of the girls with their mom.
"Mhmm, that's one of my favorites." Casey replied as he angled his chair towards her, while keeping his arm around Sofia.
"Mine too." She agreed happily before turning back to look at him, Caitlyn leaning her back against the side of the couch beside her. "Can I draw you a new picture for your office?" She questioned, that soft smile returning to Matt's face as he nodded.
"Of course baby, I'd love that." He replied, seeing her eyes light up before she nodded enthusiastically.
"Okay! I'll draw some pictures at home."
Matt smiled back at her in agreement before he looked over towards the door once he felt a pair of eyes on him, the look on his face softening as he saw his wife now standing in the doorway.
"Hey babe." He greeted, unsure of how long she'd been there as she leaned her body into the door frame.
"Hi… I see the girls found you." She commented, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked between Matt and Sofia, and Caitlyn.
"They did… Caity managed to get them here." Casey replied with a laugh, Gabby smiling back at him just as Caitlyn recognized her mom's presence in the room.
"Hi Mommy!" She said while taking a few steps away from the couch and coming to stand in the middle of the room. "Isn't Daddy's office so cool?"
"It is sweetheart, it's very cool." Dawson responded with as much enthusiasm, Matt continuing to rub his hand over Sofia's stomach while Gabby came further into the room. "Your Daddy worked very hard to get this office."
"Yeah, he did." She agreed with a grin, Matt looking over to see both his girls smiling at him before Gabby came to a stop beside their oldest daughter, the mother reaching out to run her hand along the top of her head before glancing back at Matt and Sofia. "Cause he's the best firefighter."
Gabby laughed softly as Matt shook his head, before he carefully got up out of his chair while adjusting Sofia in his arms. "I don't know about that, baby." He spoke as he came around to the front of his desk to stand with his other girls, Sofia starting to squeal in delight when she got closer to her mom. "But thank you."
"You're welcome." She responded quickly, Gabby biting back another laugh as Matt looked down to his daughter, all while Sofia was beginning to wiggle around in his arms and reach out towards Dawson. "...I think Sof wants Mommy." Caitlyn added on simply, Gabby unable to hide her laugh this time as Matt scoffed lightly, before holding out Sofia towards his wife.
"Yeah, I think you might be right, honey." He responded while shaking his head, Dawson biting down on the inside of her cheek before taking their daughter into her arms.
"Hi baby." She murmured as she adjusted Sofia on her hip, the young girl cuddling into her chest while gripping onto her shirt tightly. "Did you miss your Momma?"
"She definitely did." Matt answered for her before Gabby gave him a soft smile, while Sofia continued to get comfortable against her mom. "I think they both did. I know I always do." He added with a wink, watching his wife shake her head lightly before glancing back out of the office.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure." She replied jokingly, Matt's smile widening before she continued. "We can talk more about that later, but for now what do you think about heading back out there with everyone?" Gabby suggested, Casey knowing the time for teasing was over as he gave her a soft nod. "That way the girls can spend some more time with the guys before they leave."
"Sounds good, babe." He replied before leaning down to pick up Caitlyn, the child settling comfortably on his hip before they began to head out of Matt's office, the family of four ready to go and spend some time with all their friends until they were called out again.
