In this chapter…Mary Potter and her family are going to be chased by an axe murderer! And since they're across the sea there's no police to save them! What are they going to do?

Actually, I'm just kidding. I wouldn't end this fanfic with Mary taking an axe to the face. She shall survive!

Forgive me if I make slipups on Hagrid's accent.

Chapter 3: Yer A Witch, Mary

For a moment, the whole family thought they were done for.

But as it turned out, they were not.

"Axe murderer? I ain't no axe murderer. This isn't even an axe!" exclaimed the giant man.

As it turned out, it was a parasol, not an axe.

Mary sighed in relief. She didn't want to die on her eleventh birthday.

Vernon Dursley remembered that he had a gun.

He had brought it in case the mailman continued to pester him. And yes, he was resorting to somewhat drastic measures.

"Stand back! I have a shotgun!" ordered Vernon.

"Is it loaded?" asked the giant.

Mr. Dursley gulped.

It looked like his bluff had been called. It looked as if the giant's head wasn't all muscle.

"Now then….where is Mary?" asked the man.

"I'm over here." answered Mary Potter.

The giant shook her hand.

"Greetings, Mary. I'm pleased to meet ye. Ye can call me Hagrid. Ye might not remember, but I met ye since ye were a baby. I would have liked to adopt ye, but Dumbledore said that ye'd be better off with yer aunt and uncle." explained Hagrid.

He had a negative reputation for allegedly unleashing an Acromantula on Hogwarts students, so the wizarding community preferred that. They didn't want the wizarding world's greatest heroine to associate with someone considered to be so despicable.

And of course, McGonagall felt that Mary Potter wouldn't be safe around the creatures that Hagrid liked. They were ranked XXX to XXXX by the Ministry of Magic.

Vernon was personally inclined to disagree regarding Mary being better off with him and his wife. But then again, she had saved Dudley. And without using magic, no less.

"I'm a witch? But I don't wear a witch's hat. And I don't fly on a broomstick." pointed out Mary.

"Well, not yet ye don't. But ye might someday." noted Hagrid.

"Oh really?" asked the girl.

Hagrid nodded.

"Do you have anything to prove that? This is a bit hard to believe." remarked Mary.

To her knowledge, she had not cast a spell in her life.

"Well, has anythin' strange happened while ye were angry or upset?" asked the big man.

"I haven't felt sad or angry often in my life, but now that you mention it…" answered the girl.

Mary was walking down the stairs, whistling a merry tune.

Suddenly, she stubbed her toe.

"Owwwww!" exclaimed the girl.

Unfortunately, her magic spiraled out of control and cracked a window.

Petunia noticed.

"Mary, did you do this?" asked the woman.

"I didn't mean to!" exclaimed Mary.

She didn't know she could scream that loudly.

"That's coming out of your allowance!" bellowed Vernon.

"I don't think I have enough to cover that." answered the girl.

Curious, Vernon checked her piggy bank…

…and found out that she was right.

Mary received less than half the allowance that Dudley did.

Should he reconsider living a life of favoritism?

Later that year, Mary was trying out new clothes to wear.

A lot of these clothes used to belong to Dudley.

Unfortunately, she left the door open, and he witnessed what was going on.

"Aaaaahhhh!" exclaimed the boy.

"Whoops." realized Mary.

Seemed she had forgotten something.

Dudley passed out on the floor.

"I hope he wakes up." remarked Mary. He had school tomorrow…though he was known for truancy. Perhaps they shouldn't have located the arcade so close to their school.

Suddenly, a vase broke.

"Oh, that was my favorite vase!" exclaimed Petunia.

"Better get some glue." noted the girl.

Even later that year, Mary was watering some flowers.

"Maybe I can ask Aunt Petunia if I can take these to my parents' grave…" noted the girl.

As a side note, they didn't seem to go there often.

Suddenly, one of the flowers wilted.

"Oh no!" exclaimed Mary.

However, it suddenly stopped wilting and was right as rain.

"Oh yes!" shouted the girl.

Vernon was tempted to burn those flowers, but to be honest, Petunia actually liked them.

We now go back to the present…

"Yeah. You're right. I guess I am a witch." noted Mary.

"I wish she weren't." mumbled Vernon to himself.

Vernon felt like he was being punched in the gut. Hagrid would not step out of his hut. All he wanted at the moment was to get rid, of the man known as Hagrid. His wife and his son were gazing curiously at him. Hagrid looked as if he had been working at the gym. Also, the narrator was starting to sound like the sorting hat. Maybe there's something he should do about that.

"Will you just leave already? We spent a lot of time trying to get away from you." pointed out Vernon. But for some reason, that didn't work. Hagrid must have had a sonar or something.

"I'll be leavin' soon, don't ye worry. But first, I need to give Mary this." explained Hagrid.

He handed Mary her letter.

She decided to look at it.

"So, I've been accepted at Hogwarts…and my parents went there?" asked the girl.

"They were quite popular, too." noted Hagrid. "Though James did have a mischievous streak in his youth." Severus Snape, one of the teachers at Hogwarts, did not get on with him.

"It's a shame that they died in a car crash." remarked Mary. They sounded like nice people.

They seemed more popular than the Dursleys, that was for sure.

"They died in a car crash? Who told ye tha'?" asked Hagrid.

Mary Potter pointed to her foster parents.

"Well, guess what? Tha's a big fat lie!" exclaimed the big man.

Fatter than Dudley, in fact.

"You were lying to me?" asked Mary.

She felt ashamed of her foster parents.

Why couldn't they just tell her the truth?

They had been lying to her for years!

"The truth is…sinister." explained Petunia.

"I'm afraid yer parents were murdered." told Hagrid.

"My parents were murdered? Who would want to do that?" questioned the daughter of the deceased Lily and James Potter.

"A dark wizard unlike any other." explained the half giant.

Mary shivered.

"We'll talk about tha' later. I dinnae want to spoil yer birthday. Here's yeh birthday cake!" exclaimed Hagrid.

She decided to look at it.

It had her name on it.

"Wow! Vanilla, my favorite!" shouted Mary.

She tried to share it with Dudley (seeing how hungry he was), but Hagrid explained he would eat it all.

Mary had seen him eat a birthday cake in one sitting, so perhaps he had a point.

"Now then, we should get goin'. Professor Dumbledore is eager to have ye at his own school." noted Hagrid.

"He must be a total nutcase if he's in charge of a school of wizards." remarked Vernon.

Rubeus did not take that well at all.

"Don't ye dare insult Professor Dumbledore in front of me! Do ye understand me?!" bellowed the huge man at the top of his lungs.

Mr. Dursley gasped.

It looked like he wouldn't be speaking to Hagrid in a long while, assuming the two met again. Not that Vernon wanted to meet Rubeus again, of course, on account of him being a wizard.

"I probably shouldn't make you mad." noted Mary. She didn't want to make the same mistake her uncle did.

After all, Hagrid was clearly a muscleman.

"Sorry ye had to hear tha'. Shall we get goin'?" asked Hagrid.

"Well, this place is kind of cold and wet." nodded the girl. She probably should go somewhere where she wouldn't catch a cold.

Hagrid nodded, and proceeded to take Mary away…on a flying motorcycle.

As a side note, the storm had stopped.

"You know, I never knew why my parents seemed to prefer Lily over me. They thought she was amazing!" exclaimed Petunia.

"I don't get it either." answered Vernon.

And yet, Petunia failed to notice how she treated Dudley compared to Mary.

"This looks familiar." noted the girl.

"Are there any questions ye would like to ask me?" asked Hagrid.

This trip could take a while.

"Where are we going?" questioned Mary.

"To the Gringotts Bank." noted Hagrid.

"You have banks in your world?" asked the girl.

"Yes. In tha' aspect we're not different from Muggles. Though yer uncle seems to think we might as well be aliens." noted Hagrid.

He had some audacity, insulting Dumbledore in front of his face. He should know to respect people like him, people that tried to keep Muggles safe.

"My uncle took me to a bank once…he figured it would bore me. But I was relieved to know my family's finances were safe." answered Mary.

"At Gringotts, yer money is more than safe. Ye'd be incredibly foolish teh try teh rob it." noted Hagrid.

Not that it had stopped people from trying. The last person had tried…was eaten by a dragon.

Although, Hagrid noted that some considered him foolish for his tastes in magical creatures. Half-giants had feelings too. Just like wizards.

"I guess I better not become a bank robber then. Now…about my parents…did you find out who did it?" asked Mary.

"Yeh. It was…well, we don't speak his name. Just thinkin' about him is enough to make any wizard feel fear. But since ye haven't heard of him on account o' livin' with Muggles, I'll say his name, but jus' this once. His name…was Voldemort." explained Hagrid.

Mary decided to write that down.

"Ye brough' a notebook?" asked Hagrid.

"I might as well since I'm a learner." noted Mary.

She found it on the boat. It was a bit soggy though. Maybe a fisherman used to have it?

"Good thinkin'. While ye can rest assured that most wizards are kind and friendly and tha' the world of wizards is not a terrible place, tha's not the case with all wizards, and we're not livin' in an utopia. Some wizards go bad. We call them dark wizards." explained Hagrid.

"As for He-Who-Musn't-Be Named, he went as bad as ye can go. He was the darkest of the dark. Yer parents were far from the first people he killed. You-Now-Know-Who hated Muggles, so he decided he was goin' to get rid of them. No, he wanted more than that. He wanted to kill them all."

"That's horrible!" exclaimed Mary.

"He didn't plan on stopping there, either. He also planned to kill all Muggle-born wizards, like your mother, Lily Potter." noted Hagrid.

"My grandparents are Muggles?" asked the girl.

"I might take yeh to meet them sometime, but I cannae right now. Yer wanted at Hogwarts." explained the man.

Mary nodded.

"To make matters worse, The Darkest Wizard gathered together other dark wizards and united them against a common enemy. He persuaded them if they worked together, they could rule over the wizarding world. He also assured them tha' nobody could stop them. And he was almost correct." noted Hagrid.

"Is he…the reason I have my scar?" asked the girl. Something told her she didn't get it in a car crash.

"Yeh he is. Ye were exceptionally lucky, Mary. Nobody survived his wrath, but ye were the very firs'. Ye somehow survived his Killing Curse with nothing more tha' a small scar. And to make things better, You-Know-Who did not survive. Ye were so lucky people started calling ye the girl who lived." noted Hagrid.

"Are you saying…I'm famous?" asked Mary.

"Ye sure are! I would be surprised if I met a wizard tha' dinnae know who ye are. Although…tha's part of the reason why Dumbledore hid you in the world of Muggles." explained Hagrid.

"It is?" asked the girl.

"If people knew where ye lived, they risked revealing tha' information to Death Eaters. The Darkest Wizard's loyal followers. They have ways of making people talk…ways I don't openly discuss. The other reason is…well, Dumbledore suspects You-Know-Which-Wizard might return someday, so he figured ye should stay with yer family fer protection. Tha's also why he wants yeh to learn magic. So ye can learn how to defend yerself from You-Know-Who and his followers." noted Hagrid.

There was a Defence Against the Dark Arts class, but professors seemed to come and go in that class. Hagrid did not know why. The other teachers seemed pretty stable though.

"Wizards can return from the dead?" asked Mary.

"Fer normal wizards, no. But I don't think You-Know-Who had enough humanity in him to die." explained the man.

Mary hoped she would be ready to face him if he did come back. Apparently, evil never died.

After a lot of exposition, Hagrid and Mary arrived at Gringotts.

"By the way, this is what yer parents looked like." noted Rubeus.

He figured he might as well show her a picture of them, since she didn't remember them well.

"Huh. I look just like my mother." noted Mary.

"Ye also look like yer father, with yer eyes and yer glasses. But maybe not quite as much." remarked Hagrid.

"Yeah." nodded the daughter of two Order of the Phoenix members.

"Now then, let's go get yer savings!" exclaimed Hagrid.

Understandably, Mary Potter was curious to explore the wizarding bank.

What would she find inside?

Well, you probably already knew who was coming to pick up Mary.

Who else was it going to be? Severus Snape?

Though I can assure you that Snape will treat Mary better than he does Harry.

You can probably guess why.
