After feeling as if she could relax for once, Nyx continued to play with the two boys and the toys they brought over with them. Ever so often, one of them would go out of the trailer for snacks and returns.
Eventually however, as the skies darkened, Sam inevitably had to go.
"I better get going, it's late." Sam said, getting up and grabbing his things. " I'll come back tomorrow." He looks at Nyx.
He's leaving already? Nyx thought as she sat there with the dolls and waved at him.
" See ya." Evra said before the human boy left the trailer. He then sighed and shook his head. "That kid." He muttered before looking back. "So, are you feeling better?" Evra asked her, she responded with a nod. He smiled at her. "That's good." He said before realizing what time it was and cursed.
Nyx tilted her head curiously at the snake boy before he said. "I gotta get going as well, show's about to start." Evra said before standing up, wiping the dirt off his knees.
Nyx continued to stare at him.
"I'll be back in a couple of hours." He said. " I'll be back soon."
The little girl watched as he walked over to the door. Evra just grabbed the handle, he paused before looking back to her. "Or you can come with me." He offered with a smile. " I'm sure I can sneak you in so you can watch us. What we do is really good."
Nyx gazed between the snake boy and to the door and back at the boy.
Going outside of this trailer.
"It's alright, Nyx, it's whatever you want to do." Evra said.
Nyx chewed on her bottom lip in thought. Being out there? She didn't know if she would see the others. So far, Sam and Evra were kind to her, and if the other freaks were like the boys, maybe it won't be so bad…
However, Nyx shook her head at that, grabbing her dolls - from the Cirque and what Sam gave her before taking them to the bed and grabbed her blankets.
Evra sighed but he understood. "Alright, I'll be back." He gave her a wave before leaving the trailer, closing the door behind him.
Leaving Nyx to herself. Bundling in her blanket and toys, thinking about what had transpired the day.
It… it oddly felt weird. After running for days and waking up here, it was the first time she had time to fully settle down since her escape. Her belly now fully satisfied and this calmness over washed her.
Her captor wasn't here. That monster wasn't there to hurt her, he hadn't found her after all this time. No doubt that he's hunting Nyx down, he wasn't just going to let her get away, now since she was finally able to leave the Grove. Silently thanking any God that was responsible for her escape. She might not know a whole lot about religion, but she knew some higher power aided her.
But even when Nyx was sick, he didn't find her.
Maybe… just maybe, the Cirque could hide Nyx from him. It was a stretch, she didn't know if she could really trust these people.
That, however, was meant for another day. Nyx curled up in her bundle of blankets, her nest of sorts and closed her weary eyes.
Even though she could feel him still out there looking for her, Nyx was able to finally go to sleep without fear raining down upon her.
Roughly a couple of hours later, Nyx was disterbed by the trailer shifting in weight. She groggily opened her eyes. At first, it was empty, using only the rays of moonlight to light her way.
Having so used to living in the shadows, the dark trailer was lit up as if it was daytime. She sat up in the bed, gazing across the place.
At first, the little girl didn't see anything out of place, it being messy from before. She continued to scan before out of nowhere, shooting out of the small bathroom, a creature in blue racing out of the trailer fotor as fast as it could.
Nyx let out a frightened gasp before ducking back underneath the blanket. She covered her mouth to muffle her frantic breathing. She waited a moment before realizing that there wasn't any danger and came back out.
What was that? Nyx thought before looking around, making sure nothing else was inside till she realized that the door to the trailer was wide open.
Nyx quickly got out and made a grab for the door latch before she noticed colorful lights glowing outside.
Festive string lights that were strung along the various tents for that lit up the night.
Nyx bit her lower lip, curious to go out. She thought about what might happen if she left the trailer. Her best bet was to stay inside and wait for Evra…
Should I wait for the green boy? She thought.
But she wanted to look around, after being stuck in one place for so long. Though she's afraid of getting caught by Him, Nyx was intrigued by the camp.
Nyx looked back around the trailer before stepping out, shutting the door behind her. She slowly climbed down the steps till she reached the ground.
She wiggled her toes in the grass and dirt, getting a sense of familiarity. She turned her head to look around her surroundings before she slowly pushed forward.
The camp was much bigger than the child expected. The tents that housed the Cirque were scattered around the field with strings of light connecting to tents and poles. There was not much activity going around the main camp as all the Freaks were still performing in the large main tent. There were human helpers and the vast majority were watching the show but there were those who were just idling by themselves in their own tents.
All too tired and preoccupied to notice a literal child of the night wondering about the grounds.
Nyx was cautious as she moved around, trying not to be too exposed and sticking to the shadows as she explored the new territory.
Where is everyone? Nyx wondered as she moved. All day and with the boys, Nyx could hear everything outside. The freaks hustling and bustling around when they weren't gathering around the trailer, preparing for something.
Suddenly, she jumped when she heard a collection of screams coming from the distance and hid behind a large truck. The screams however turned into a roar of applause and sounds of cheer echoing the night. Sounds of terror turned to sounds of joy and excitement. Blinking curiously, she slowly moved from the truck and headed towards the source of the sound.
Nyx soon came to the source of the sound from a large colorful tent. She stopped and looked up at it. The sounds of laughter and cheer resonated from within. She waited a few moments before she lifted up the bottom flap of the tent and slipped inside to see what was going on.
Inside she came to the very back of the tent. The place was decked out with various sweets, a display of hot foods and drinks. All waiting to be eaten.
Taking the chance, Nyx walked and approached one of the snack tables. She licked her lips as she picked up a drumstick or two off the spread and started eating them quickly
"CORMAC LIMBS EVERYONE!" Nyx gasped when she heard what sounded like Mr. Tall, causing her to jump and made her drop the food.
The sound made her cover her ears to block the sudden ringing. She almost didn't hear another roar of applause that followed behind.
The ringing lasted a few moments before it resided. She pulled and tugged her earlobes, whimpering softly.
So loud...why is everything so loud?
Soon the sound of a collection of footsteps echoed in her ears. A clamouring of voices chatting down the makeshift hallway inside the large tent was coming towards her direction.
With a gulp, Nyx left where she came from, slipping out of the tent and back outside.
She scurried off back towards the direction of the trailer.
She gotten just twenty feet from the door when something made her stop.
"My, my, my, what is this?" A voice calling out to her. This sudden dread overcame Nyx, though this was not something new, this voice had a whole new level. She didn't even have to look to see who it was to sense that there was a much eviler source than her sire behind her.
And she had never believed that was such a thing till now.
The little girl slowly looked over her shoulders to see a man behind her. He has short white hair, thick glasses and pudgy face, with a warm but mocking smile. He wears a shabby yellow suit and a pair of green wellington boots. Carrying a heart-shaped heart in his hand.
"So you're the child vampire. I keep hearing about." He said before approaching her.
Nyx couldn't move her legs. She desperately wanted to go inside but she just could not move.
"Hi there, sweetheart." The scary man greeted when he gotten close.
When he did, a reaction happened. His watch began to glow…
And so did Nyx's red eye. She moans and whispered, covering and rubbing her eye. It was becoming really irritating.
The man blinked in surprise. He wasn't even doing anything. Surprised to see this. "Well, this just got more interesting."
Nyx didn't know what was happening. Her eye had never been this irritated before. Her body felt tingly, like something was trying to come out from within her, but it was really weak.
Just as the man was about to speak, another man's voice called out to them.
"Desmond, you said you wanted a word with me?"
Nyx didn't know whoever it was at the time - preoccupied by her actions - but she was thankful because it made her snap out of whatever it was that made her froze in place and she sprinted back inside of her trailer. Once she entered the threshold, her eye and the heart-shaped watch stopped glowing.
Panicking, Nyx gathered everything heavy she could find and barricaded the door. Once she felt like it was secured enough, she jumped on the bed and gets under the cover.
So much for a restful night…
