Title: Salvation
Summary: She's his other half - his heart, his soul, his mind - his everything. He knows he needs her.
Word Count: 529
Rating: G
Warning: Nothing, except lots of sappiness. And mayhaps OOCness too.
Notes: This was written for my friend Rhea. I wrote this last July, which explains for the roughness of the writing, I guess. (Yeah, you can tell I don't like this much.)
This takes place post-Hogwarts, and yes, I did kill off a certain beloved redhead. (cringe) Blame my authorial license.
Just to clarify... "he" is Harry, "she" is Hermione.
Dedication: To Rhea, for being an amazing person and friend. I hope you had an amazing day; you deserve it. And.. I hope you like this.

He's never needed anyone like this before.
No, scratch that - he's never needed anyone. He's of no use to people, so why would he need someone?
But the truth is, he does.
He does need someone.
Her.
His mind is numb. Why now of all times did he have to realize this? It's strange. At the same time it makes sense.
He shakes his head. He's gone mad. He must've cracked, finally.
Ha. Imagine that. He can see the headlines now - blaring "The Boy Who Lives Has Gone Insane," with "And Is Admitted At St. Mungo's Currently" right underneath it.
He probably will have to be admitted to St. Mungo's after this. After all, he has learned not to depend on anyone but himself. And that the only person he can trust is himself. The Dursleys have taught him that.
So..what's happened now? Over the past five years, he's come to trust her, care about her, and.. he lets the thought trail off. But he can't deny it.
He's fallen in love with her. And he needs her - badly. Without her . . he's empty, he's nothing. She's his other half - his heart, his soul, his mind - his everything. He needs her. He wouldn't even be alive right now if it weren't for her. He's saved her life many times . . now she's saved his. (There is no Harry Potter without Hermione Granger, there is no Hermione Granger without Harry Potter) She's the most important person in his life. She is his equal.
She is the only one who has taught him what love really is -
It's what he's always wanted. She's what he's always needed. She loves him for who he is, she was the first one to show and give him acceptance and affection, she believes in him unconditionally . . . He can't even put into words just how important she is to him. But she is.
And that's all that matters.
---
It's time he stopped denying it anyway, he thinks. He knows he needs her. He knows he may be the wizarding world's savior . . but he can't do this without her. Her support, courage, logic and love is what keeps him going, never willing to give up. Never wanting evil to win . . She's his strength, and he's willing to do anything for her - even die.
And it's because of her that with each setback, he just brushes it off and goes on, and keeps fighting. Because there are things . . and people . . worth fighting and dying for.
---
He's a fool for believing that he needs no one, he admits that now. There's no way someone can go on in life without needing anybody - they wouldn't be able to survive.
And he's stupidly stubborn for not seeing that sooner . . but there's no point in regretting things that happened in the past . . All he can do is forgive himself and go on living . . he's sure that his parents, Sirius, Remus and Ron would've wanted him to. If he wasn't happy, they wouldn't be either.
And he is more than happy. He finally has everything that he's ever wanted - love, a family -
- And her.
And he realizes . .
(From the very beginning, he's always needed her.)
