Hello there everyone! I'm back with the next chapter for you all.
I'm so sorry I wasn't able to update last week, everything was just so crazy and I hardly had any chances to write. I know I wasn't able to update this story, or Whatever Comes Next, and that wasn't at all my intention but there was just a lot going on. I've been so busy with getting ready to move, and then last Monday I broke my foot which kind of messed up my entire week there.
But I'm back now, and hoping to continue on with my regular updates if I can. Thank you all so much for your patience, and I hope this cute Casey family centered chapter makes up for my absence.
Thanks for reading everyone, and I'll see you next time!
One Hundred and Seventy Three
"Sofia!"
Casey suppressed a smirk as he heard his wife call for their youngest daughter, the man then laughing softly while the sound of little footsteps filtered into Caitlyn's room from the hallway, Sofia evidently running away from her mom as Matt could hear Gabby hurrying behind her.
"Sof, come here baby… I need to get you dressed." Gabby tried once more, Matt glancing away from Caitlyn towards the doorway just in time to see a nearly naked Sofia waddle her way into the room.
There were loud giggles leaving her lips as the toddler was enjoying the game she'd created between her and her mother, those laughs only getting louder when she registered her father and sister's presence in the room she came into.
"Dada!" She cheered, clapping her hands together before running straight into his arms while Gabby came to a stop in the doorway, Matt quick to notice the slightly exasperated, yet amused, look on her face.
"Well, what do we have here?" He asked rhetorically as he picked his little girl up, Dawson shaking her head a bit while Caitlyn watched on with a bright smile on her face.
"Sof doesn't want to get her clothes on." Gabby explained, holding up the diaper and overalls in her hand that were clearly meant to go on their two year old who only had a t-shirt on. "She got away from me before I could get her diaper on her."
Casey gave her a nod before holding his hand out, silently gesturing for her to hand him Sofia's clothes as Gabby made her way into Caity's bedroom.
"Hi Mama." The six year old greeted, Caitlyn having stopped playing with her toys soon after her little sister came rushing in.
"Hi baby." Gabby replied back, earning another smile from her oldest daughter while she handed Matt the rest of Sofia's clothes. "I see Daddy got you all ready to go." She added on, the look on Caitlyn's face morphing into a proud one while she shifted around on the ground.
"I did it all by myself!" She boasted, Matt letting out a soft chuckle while Gabby gave her a supportive smile. "But Daddy helped with my hair." She added on after a moment, reaching up to touch the two pigtails Casey had done, along with the matching bows resting on her head.
"You did a great job, sweetheart." Gabby responded, while sitting herself down onto Caitlyn's bed. "But since your dad didn't have to help you much, let's see if he can help get Sof ready." She continued on pointedly, Casey laughing once more before shaking his head a bit.
"I've got this." He said assuredly, Gabby cocking her head to the side while Matt began to try and get Sofia down on the floor to put her diaper on.
But, in typical Sofia Casey fashion, she put up quite the fight, Casey soon coming to understand why his wife had so much trouble as their youngest daughter didn't like the idea of getting dressed.
"Come on, Sof… Help me out." He spoke underneath his breath, Gabby suppressing a laugh while Caitlyn stood up and came over to her, the mother guiding her up into her lap before wrapping her arms around the little girl's waist. "I know, I know- You don't like it, but you have to wear it." Matt continued to coax her, while Sofia let out a whine of disapproval.
"How's it going over there?" Gabby asked with a somewhat smug look, Casey huffing out a breath before glancing her way and offering her a wide, knowing smile.
"Perfect." He replied without missing a beat, Dawson chuckling softly once more while Caitlyn continued to get comfortable on her lap. "But I can see why you were struggling, Sof really does not want to get dressed." He added on while securing the last tab on her diaper.
"I'm pretty sure it's the diaper." Gabby chimed in, Matt soon nodding in agreement while he began putting Sofia's overalls on. And while she wasn't really a fan of that either, she had at least started to be a little more compliant. "But we both know she's been putting up a fight with them for a while."
"Yeah, she's seemed to hate them lately." He replied while clasping the button, Matt barely getting her outfit in place before Sofia managed to push herself up and run away once more. Her loud giggles had returned, her demeanor once again proving their words to be true as their feisty daughter didn't like to be restrained by much of anything these days.
"She really has." Gabby echoed, letting out a soft sigh while her eyes moved over towards Sofia, where the girl had picked up one of Caitlyn's bouncy balls and was now running around the room with it. "But you know what that means… that it might finally be time to start potty training."
Casey met her eyes from across the room, the father drawing in a deep breath of his own before he nodded.
"That's usually one of the signs… That, and she's been a lot more interested in all of it recently." Gabby continued on, Matt mulling over her words while he rested his weight back on his hands.
It was something they'd talked about off and on over the last few months, about when would be the best time to start potty training Sofia. And every time the conversation came up, the parents just decided to wait.
They hadn't necessarily been putting it off, it was more that they were waiting for Sofia to be ready. With the horror stories they'd heard of parents trying too soon, and making the process stressful and difficult for the child, that was the last thing they wanted to do. As not only would it make it harder on them, but it would make it worse for Sofia as well. So they'd decided to just go at Sofia's pace and let her lead the way, Matt and Gabby knowing their little girl always did things in her own time.
But if these past couple of weeks were any indication, Sofia seemed ready to take that step.
Which meant the parents had to be ready as well.
"You're right about that." Matt finally responded, letting his legs cross in front of him while he continued to sit on the floor. "And I think you might be right about it being time, too. Sofia seems like she's ready… And not having to change any more diapers would be a nice bonus."
Gabby chuckled softly in response, nodding up and down a bit in agreement while Caity leaned her back against her chest. "It definitely would, I think it's worth considering starting to get into all that."
"We should." He told her, the two matching smiles before Dawson continued.
"Maybe here in the next few days or so, once we get past Halloween at the end of this week we can start trying with her and see how she does." Gabby suggested. "I know a big part of this is consistency, so if we start with her once we get off a shift, and just stay home with her for a couple days it might help her get the hang of it." She told him, Matt nodding once more while his eyes moved over towards Sofia. "It won't be easy, and with work and everything Becca's definitely gonna have to help us… But I think it's in her best interest to start soon."
"Sounds good to me, babe." Matt agreed, tearing his focus away from the two year old to glance back at his wife.
"Halloween sounds good!" Caitlyn repeated happily, Gabby and Matt both looking towards their oldest daughter before laughing a bit, her words telling them that she'd been paying attention to their conversation. Though the fun holiday was clearly the only thing she'd been interested in.
"Oh does it?" Gabby played along, rubbing over her stomach before she gently started to tickle her, Caitlyn's infectious laughs filling the room while she wiggled around on her mom's lap.
"Yeah! It does." She told her once her mom had stopped, the wide smile never leaving her face as she looked over at her dad. "Cause it's like dress up, but I get candy!" She continued, her child-like reasoning endearing to both parents while Matt gave her a nod.
"Well, you do have a point there baby." He told her, Gabby and Matt sharing a silent glance telling them that they'd continue this conversation later before he started to push himself up off the ground. "Which is why I think now that Sof's ready, we should get out of here and go find you girls some costumes." He spoke, seeing Caitlyn's eyes widen out of excitement before she started to nod profusely, even though she already knew of their plans for today.
After waking up this morning, Gabby and Matt had decided it would be a good day to go out and get some errands done; which included going to find some Halloween costumes for the girls. But clearly Caitlyn had forgotten about that since they told her, as now it looked like she was finding out for the first time.
"Let's go!" She cheered while sliding down off of her mom's lap and hurrying from her bedroom, Gabby shaking her head in amusement while she started to stand as well, Matt opting to gather up Sofia before the rest of the family began to follow in the same direction Caitlyn had gone.
"What about this one?" Gabby asked while holding up another princess costume, thinking the bright purple and pink fabric combined with the sparkling crown might catch her daughter's eye. But after one glance a displeased look immediately began to pull on Caitlyn's face, before the child shook her head in response, telling Gabby that she didn't like the costume.
And that was the same reaction they'd gotten for most of the costumes they'd pulled out for her ever since they got here.
It had only been maybe half an hour or so since they arrived, as after leaving their home they'd stopped for a quick lunch before continuing on with their errands, which started here at the costume shop. But they weren't having all that much success thus far, as Caitlyn appeared to be very set in the type of costume she wanted.
The only problem was, she hadn't been able to tell them exactly what it was she did want, meaning there had been a lot of trial and error as they continued to try and find the perfect costume for her. But with it being so close to Halloween, their options were a bit limited. And the parents could tell it was becoming a little frustrating for her, which was the opposite of what they wanted this experience to be like. So they were trying to keep things easy and light while they kept on in their search.
Though if there was any brightside to this at all, it was that they'd already found a costume for Sofia, as seconds after they entered the building she'd found a little mouse costume that she absolutely loved. And while neither of them were sure if she actually did love it, or if she just chose it because it was the first thing she saw, they didn't mind either way as they knew she'd look adorable in it.
"So you don't wanna be a princess at all?" Casey asked after a moment as he held Sofia with one arm, his other angled down towards the ground so Caitlyn could hold onto his hand, while Gabby put the costume back.
"No, I don't think so." She responded, shuffling her weight between her feet as she continued to look around at all her choices. "I like princesses, but I want to be something else."
"Alright, that's fine honey… Do you know what you wanna be?" He asked for what felt like the twentieth time since they'd gotten here. But still, they were both patient with their daughter as they knew this was a big deal to her. And they didn't want to minimize any of her feelings that came along with that.
"I don't know." She answered with a shrug, Matt sparing a quick glance towards his wife before she continued. "I wanna be something cool."
"Well, we can definitely do that… What's cool to you?" Gabby continued to prompt her, Caitlyn's features furrowing in deep thought while she mulled over her question.
"You and Daddy are cool." She answered after a moment, Matt hiding a smile before an audible gasp left the little girl's lips, the look on her face like a light bulb went off as her eyes started to widen in excitement. "I could be like Daddy!" She spoke brightly, starting to bounce up and down on the balls of her feet while she tugged on his hand. "I wanna be a firefighter!"
Matt raised his eyebrows in response while Gabby let out a soft laugh, the reaction from their oldest telling them both that she'd quickly decided on her costume.
"You do?" Matt asked, Caity nodding while looking between her parents.
"Yeah! I could be Chief Casey." She continued on, Matt now unable to hide the proud look in his eyes before he looked back over to Gabby, seeing a supportive smile waiting for them both before she nodded.
"I think that's a great idea, honey." She encouraged, Caitlyn grinning happily while tightening her hold on her father's hand.
Had they thought about it, her choice shouldn't have surprised either one of them as even though Caity had always been interested in their jobs, ever since they went to Career Day at her school last month she'd shown a much more serious interest in it. In their jobs as first responders, and pretending to be them when she'd play. So it was easy to understand her decision once she came to it, and if that's really what she wanted Matt and Gabby both would ensure she had the best costume ever.
"Alright, well I guess that settles it. We've got a mini Chief Casey for Halloween." He told her, Caitlyn grinning from ear to ear while letting out a few elated giggles. "But how about you let me handle the costume, instead of getting something here… That way you can look just like me."
"Okay!" She responded, clearly on board with letting her father take care of it before she moved to give him a quick hug. "I'm so excited."
"I'm glad, baby." He replied, maneuvering enough to lean down and press a kiss to the top of her head while also keeping Sofia securely on his hip.
"I guess we can go pay for Sof's costume, then head out of here." Gabby told him once he and Caitlyn had separated. Though the six year old never moved too far from her dad.
"Yeah, we can… I'm gonna need to make a call to the house, see if we can't get a small turnout coat sent to the firehouse by tomorrow." Casey spoke, already wracking his brain for all the ways he could perfect a costume for his oldest daughter. "And we'll need to get a patch, too."
"I'm sure if anyone can do it, you can babe." Gabby reminded him with a smile, reaching out to rub her hand over his cheek before she moved past him towards the checkout, Matt then making sure he had both his girls before starting to walk after her.
Casey put their car in park before looking around the car with all his girls, seeing Gabby type out something on her phone while Caity was in the backseat looking out the window, her attention having been pulled in that direction for most of their drive, most likely in an effort to stay quiet for the other little girl beside her as Sofia had been asleep for almost half an hour now.
They were almost done with their day of errands, the family of four having stopped at a few other places after going to the costume shop before coming here to the grocery store, which was the last thing on their list. They were in need of a few household essentials, as well as some of their staples they were running low on. But in the drive back across town to get here, with all the evening traffic making it take longer than usual Sofia had fallen fast asleep in her carseat. And she looked nowhere close to waking up anytime soon.
"Well, Sof's out." He commented, Gabby smiling softly after putting her phone down before she angled herself to look into the backseat.
"Yeah, I kind of figured as much. Especially once she stopped singing along to the music." She replied, earning a laugh from her husband before he reached down to unbuckle his seatbelt.
"Do you just wanna stay here with her?" He offered, nodding back in her direction while Gabby looked towards him. "I shouldn't be too long, and that way we won't have to wake her up."
"That's fine, as long as you don't mind." She responded, Matt immediately waving her off before reaching out for the door handle.
"Of course not… Just give me twenty minutes and I'll be back."
"Okay."
"Can I come with you, Daddy?" Caitlyn's voice piped up from the backseat, the smile never leaving Casey's face as he glanced back to look at her.
"Absolutely sweetheart, you can come and be my helper." He told her, seeing her eyes light up with excitement before she started to unbuckle herself from her booster seat.
"Okay!" She replied animatedly, Gabby holding back a laugh while she watched her husband and oldest daughter start to get out of the car, Sofia completely oblivious to the whole thing as she continued to sleep peacefully beside them.
"Be careful in there." Gabby told them just as Matt held onto Caitlyn's hand while she jumped down onto the pavement, the man nodding knowingly while keeping a firm grasp on his daughter.
"We will.. And you guys stay safe out here. Make sure to lock the doors." He reminded her, even though he knew he didn't need to. But Gabby appreciated the sentiment regardless, nodding back at her husband before offering him a small smile.
"I will." She repeated, Matt flashing her that signature Casey grin before giving her a wink and shutting the door, the father then lifting Caitlyn up into his arms before he headed off towards the store.
Once they got inside he knew she could roam a little more freely, but until they were out of the parking lot and away from the busy-ness of the city Matt didn't feel comfortable with her walking on her own. Not when she didn't have to, Caitlyn wrapping her arms securely around his neck while they continued inside the grocery store they'd been in a dozen times.
"Alright honey, you ready to help?" He asked her while setting her down on the ground, Caitlyn giving him a nod as the two of them walked over to get a cart.
"Yeah! Can I help you push?" She requested, Matt smiling softly before he nodded.
"Of course you can." He responded, seeing her own grin widen before she moved to stand in front of him between her father and the cart.
Matt knew from the moment she offered that she wasn't so much wanting to push the grocery cart as she was wanting to ride on it, but he didn't mind either way as he watched her stand up on the back bar while holding onto the handles, the father letting out a soft chuckle before he started to push her and the cart into the store. Her body was securely nestled between him and the shopping cart, this new height giving her the chance to see more of the store around her while they began their trip for essentials.
"...Can I get some candy?" She asked maybe five minutes into their trip, Matt biting back a smirk while he looked down at her, seeing her arms still helping to keep her balanced on the cart.
"I think we could." He agreed, hearing a sound of approval come from his daughter as they stopped in front of the canned goods, where he knew Gabby needed a few things. "But we gotta get something for your sister, too."
"Okay Daddy." She responded, Matt reaching up to grab the few cans on the list before they continued through the store.
It didn't take them long to get through Gabby's list of things, as they'd gone grocery shopping last week and just needed to fill in a few odds and ends. And soon enough they'd managed to get everything they were sent in for, as well as a few goodies Matt knew all of them would enjoy, Caitlyn doing her best along the way to help her father while they filled up the cart.
"Alright, I think that's everything." He told her as he placed the loaf of bread into the basket, Caitlyn smiling up at him while he rubbed his hand along the top of her head. "You were such a great helper, so I think it's time to go and pick out your candy, then we can head back out to Momma and sissy." He explained to her, seeing her face light up before she started to jump and down excitedly in her spot on the tile.
"I want chocolate!" She responded, Matt letting out a soft chuckle while she hopped back up onto the side of the cart.
"We can get you some chocolate." He said, seeing her eyes crinkle up happily before he started to move towards the candy aisle.
But he only got a few steps before he felt his phone start to buzz in his pocket, Matt halting off the side and pulling out the device to see Gabby's name and photo over the screen, the husband answering her call seconds later.
"Hey babe, you guys alright?" He asked first while Caity kept her eyes on him.
"Yeah, we're fine. It's been quiet out here, Sof's still sleeping." She said, Matt smiling softly before he responded.
"Good, I'm glad… What's up?"
"I meant to add it to the list earlier, but can you pick up another pack of diapers for Sof? She's almost out." She requested, Matt immediately nodding before he turned the cart to head back in that direction. "I forgot to tell you earlier, with all the potty training talk… Hopefully she won't even need them much longer, but I don't want us to run out."
"It's fine baby, I'll grab some." He responded, using his shoulder to keep his phone to his ear while he navigated through the crowds of people, as Matt occasionally glanced down to Caity to ensure she was still holding onto the cart tightly. "Like you said, maybe we'll get lucky and this will be the last time we have to get them."
"That would be nice." She replied, Casey almost able to hear her smile as they got to the correct aisle.
"It definitely would be, but I'll grab that stuff then be out… Maybe I'll go ahead and get some pull-ups too."
"Couldn't hurt."
"Yeah, I don't think so… Alright, well Caity and I should be out of here in a few minutes."
"Okay, thanks babe."
"You're welcome, see you in a minute." He told her, the two sharing one last goodbye before he hung up the phone and slid it back into his pocket. "Alright Caity, let's get this stuff for Sof then get out of here."
"And the chocolate!" She reminded him with a giggle, Matt smirking softly as he placed the correct diapers and pull-ups into their cart before starting to push it down the aisle once more.
"You're right, we can't forget the chocolate." He spoke, Caitlyn shooting him a wide grin while they made their way back across the store to get her candy. Which luckily didn't take too long as the six year old knew exactly what she wanted, Caity grabbing herself some candy as well as something for her sister, while Matt made sure to stop and grab Gabby's favorite chocolate bar as well before they started for the check out.
But before they got there Matt stopped them one last time, the wall of flowers catching his eye as he made a beeline over towards the different bouquets, Casey slowly eyeing them while searching for the perfect combination.
"What are we doing, Daddy?" Caity asked while hanging back off the cart, Matt picking up a nice bouquet and inspecting it before gently placing it down in their basket.
"Getting some flowers for your Momma." He answered, Caity scrunching up her nose a bit while she continued to use the shopping cart as her own personal jungle gym.
"Why?" She questioned innocently, while Matt began to make his way back towards the line.
"Because your mom loves flowers, and I love her." He replied simply, seeing that bright smile return to her features as they stood in line.
"Can I help give them to her?" She continued on, Casey letting out a soft laugh before he nodded.
"I think she'd love that baby." He said, Caitlyn grinning proudly before they continued to move forward in line.
It took some time, given the crowd, but eventually they got all the groceries scanned and paid for, Matt making sure Caitlyn stayed close to him as they made their way out of the store and back towards their car. When they got closer and it was safe to do so, Matt allowed Caity to get a head of him a little bit, with the flowers in her hands, her excitement to show them to her mom impossible to miss as she hurried to the passenger side door and knocked.
"Mommy! Mommy, look!" She said, Matt seeing Gabby's smile shining through the window before she unlocked the car and slowly opened her door.
"Oh my, what are these for?" She asked, her lips parted in surprise as Caitlyn thrust the flowers up towards her.
"Daddy got you flowers!" Caity explained happily, Matt letting out a soft smile as he stopped the cart by the car, before coming around the door to stand behind his daughter.
"He did?"
"Uh huh! And I helped."
"That's so sweet, thank you baby." She responded, leaning down to give her daughter a quick kiss before Caity stepped back against her father.
"Alright honey, let's get you into the car." He said, offering his wife a small smile before he led their daughter around towards her seat, Matt taking a few seconds to make sure she was settled before he shut her door and headed back around towards Gabby.
When he came to a stop by her open door, he saw her admiring the bouquet he'd chosen for her, the smile on her face unmistakable while she took a second to breathe them in.
"You like them?" He asked with a goofy grin covering his face, Gabby glancing towards him while letting the flowers come to rest in her lap.
"I love them." She responded, his pride evident before he held out the candy bar in his hand.
"I also got you this."
She laughed softly, Gabby shaking her head a bit before taking the chocolate from him. "Thank you." She replied, Matt nodding back at her before he leaned down to steal a quick kiss. "You didn't have to do that."
"I know." He said easily, Gabby's smile widening before he kissed her one last time. "I'm gonna get all this put up, then we can get out of here."
Dawson nodded in response, her hand coming up to rub over his chest before he slowly stepped back and closed her door. And while his girls sat in the security of their car, Casey worked on getting the groceries put away in the trunk, the man ready to finish up the last task of their day before getting home with his family.
"Dawson, is this all the candy we got?" Otis spoke as he came into the common room, the few sets of eyes around the table all looking up at him while he expectantly watched the PIC. "We've got a lot of kids out there, I don't think this is gonna last." He added, Gabby tilting her head to the side a bit before she pointed back towards the kitchen.
"Yeah, we do Otis… There should be some more in the cabinet." She replied, the man offering her a thankful look before he headed back into the kitchen towards the candy, while Gabby went back to her newspaper.
"When are the girls getting here?" Jemma asked from her side, Dawson glancing up once more before looking down to check the time on her watch. "We wouldn't want them to miss all the good candy." She continued on, Gabby letting out a soft laugh before shaking her head.
"Eh, they'd be fine… But they should be here any minute, I think." She told her, setting the newspaper down onto the table before reaching into her pocket for her phone. "Becca's supposed to let us know when she's here."
"And they'll be in their costumes?"
"Mhmm."
"Aww, I can't wait to see them." Jemma mused. "I know Caity was so excited about hers, and Sof's gonna look adorable."
"Yeah, they both look great… Caitlyn's so eager to show everyone." Gabby responded just as a text came through from Becca to her and Matt, telling them she'd arrived with the girls. "And it looks like they're here." She added on before standing up, Jemma following her lead as the two paramedics pushed their chairs in. "I should probably go get Matt, I'm not sure if he's paying attention to his phone."
"Yeah, the Chief's been hiding away all morning. Must be a busy day at headquarters."
"Must be." Gabby echoed while starting to head around the back of the table, set on making her way towards his office. "But I know he wants to be here when everyone sees the girls, so I should probably- Nevermind." She cut herself off when she saw her husband walking down the hallway, the man flashing her a bright smile while he changed his path to head towards her.
"Hey baby, you see Becca's message?" He asked, Gabby sliding her hands into her pockets before she nodded.
"I did… I was just coming to get you, I wasn't sure if you'd be able to pull yourself away from work." She replied, Matt soon waving her off before the trio began to head for the garage.
"I'd never miss this, I can't wait to see the girls." He told her, Gabby's smile widening as they all walked out through the double doors and onto the apparatus floor, it taking them no time at all to get out into the driveway.
There were a few different neighborhood kids running around in their costumes, the firehouse having been a safe place where a lot of them came to gather and get candy. And some of the house was out here as well, Gabby and Matt coming to a stop over by Severide and Kidd while they kept an eye out for Becca.
"There you guys are." Severide spoke first, Gabby giving him a nod. "I take it the little Casey's are here?"
"They are." Matt replied, resting his hands over his hips while he continued looking around. "Becca said they just got here, though I'm not sure where she parked."
"With all this craziness, she might've had to park farther away, but I'm sure… Oh, I think I see them." Kelly replied, Matt turning to look in that direction before a wide smile formed across his face the second he saw his girls.
"Daddy!" Caitlyn yelled first, the little girl breaking away from Becca and hurrying over to her parents, her hand up on her head to hold the small fireman's helmet in place while Sofia scurried behind her.
"There are my girls!" Matt spoke with just as much enthusiasm, Caity running into him for a hug while Sofia went to her mom. "You both look so good!" He continued to encourage, even though this wasn't the first time he'd seen either of them in their costumes.
"Wow, looks like we've got another Chief Casey here." Severide spoke with a laugh, Caitlyn smiling proudly before she stepped away from her father and started to spin around.
"I'm like Daddy!" She said brightly, the group chuckling once more while they all looked her over.
Along with the Chief helmet resting on her head, she also had a small turnout coat with a Chief Casey patch across the back, the girl wearing a tinier version of his Chief's polo and a pair of blue pants to complete the costume, Matt having gone all out for her as he wanted her to have the best firefighter costume she possibly could.
"You are, you look just like him!" Kidd encouraged, Caitlyn's smile only getting bigger as she turned to show off the patch once more.
"I'm Chief Casey!"
"You look like the best Chief Casey, if you ask me." Severide teased, Matt scoffing softly before reaching out to shove his arm, the two friends sharing a laugh before Kelly looked back at Caitlyn. "I love your costume, Caity. You definitely have to show the rest of the guys."
"Yeah!" She added on excitedly before turning to Gabby. "Can we show everyone, Mommy?" She asked, earning a gentle smile from her mom before she nodded.
"Of course we can, I know everyone wants to see you and Sofia." She told her, Caity's elated smile never diminishing as she reached for Matt's hand.
"Okay! Let's go, Chief Casey." She instructed, the group of friends laughing as Matt and Caity led the way back towards the firehouse.
"You weren't kidding about the effort Casey put into that." Kidd mused while her, Severide, and Dawson walked behind Casey and Caitlyn. "All the gear and everything."
"Oh, I know.. Matt took it very seriously. But I think it's cute."
"She definitely is… And so is Sofia, she looks so adorable." Stella spoke, the little girl grinning brightly from her spot in her mother's arms when she recognized her name, her reaction causing the adults to laugh before Severide reached out for her.
"She is really cute, let me see my little mouse." He spoke, Gabby helping in the handoff of the toddler as Sofia started to giggle happily when Severide picked her up. "Yeah, you're the cutest mouse ever, aren't you?" Kelly continued on, Gabby and Stella both hiding their smiles as he spoke to his goddaughter like she was the only one around. "I know the guys are gonna love your costume, too."
"They definitely will." Gabby agreed, rubbing over Sofia's back once more before the trio caught back up to Caity and Matt, with Jemma and Becca following behind them, all of them ready to get back into the firehouse and spend as much time as they could with the dressed up Casey girls.
