Chapter One Hundred and Ninety

Hot air blew through the vents in Casey's beloved truck while he drove down the slick neighborhood streets, the late morning hour keeping the roads relatively clear as he pulled down the familiar street that led them back to their home. There were occasional flurries hitting the windshield, but nothing too treacherous as Matt carefully pulled the vehicle up the curb before putting it in park. Everything was quiet around him, like it had been during most of their drive, Casey keeping the engine running before he finally shifted himself in his seat to face his wife. She hadn't said much since they left Dr. Tanner's office, and with one glance he was starting to understand why, Matt unable to stop the soft smile that began to form over his lips as Gabby was focused on the photo in her hands.

The photo of their baby.

It didn't feel real at times, and truthfully it might not for a while. That there was this little life they'd created, now growing inside Gabby. That they'd been so lucky to get pregnant again, and both Gabby and their child were fine. Even after seeing the pregnancy test, then talking to Dr. Tanner, and the ultrasound where they saw their baby for the first time, there was a part of this that still didn't feel real to him. But it was, and if Matt knew anything at this moment it's that he wanted to soak up as much of this as he could.

Drawing in a deep breath, he figured it was time for them to get out of the cold and into the warmth of their home as he reached out to place his hand over the top of hers, before opening his mouth. "Babe."

His movement combined with the sound of his voice gained Gabby's attention, the small grin on her face never faltering as she slowly looked up at him. "Hmm?"

"We're home." He answered her, Gabby's brows knitting together before she glanced out the window, seeing they were in fact sitting outside their townhouse.

"Oh.. I didn't realize." She murmured while turning back towards her husband, his eyes shining at her as he looked between her and the sonogram in her grasp.

"Yeah, you seemed to be a little distracted there." He added on, the smile tugging on his lips causing her to laugh before she followed his line of sight back down towards the photos of their child.

"Well, I think I have a pretty good reason." Gabby played along, earning an agreeing nod from him before he squeezed her hand. "...I can't stop looking at it, at them." She breathed out, letting her finger trace over the small image that was their baby. "They're perfect."

"They are." He agreed without a thought. "Just like their Momma."

Heat spread through her chest and up to her neck while he spoke, Gabby shaking her head back and forth before meeting his gaze. "They're perfect like our girls." She corrected him, causing Matt to let out a soft scoff. But he didn't press her on it as she kept talking. "They're absolutely perfect. But it's still crazy to think about, us having another child."

"It is, but it's great." Matt responded, while tightening his hold on her hand. "I never thought this would happen for us, and we're about to have our hands full," He spoke, pulling a soft laugh from his wife. "But this is so incredible. I can't wait for us to experience this again, with our daughters here this time."

Her eyes lit up at his words, Gabby immediately beginning to nod as she let the sonogram rest down on her lap. "I'm so excited to do this with them." She admitted, repeating his words while Matt let out a soft chuckle. "It's gonna be a lot different this time around, having the girls with us. Sharing this with them… Though I guess that's not the only thing that'll be different." She finished, seeing his head fall to the side ever so slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know, just… This pregnancy already feels so different than when I had Sofia." She began to explain, waiting for a nod from Matt before she continued. "Or it feels like it will be different, because now we know we'll get to enjoy it." Gabby told him, Casey's face starting to fall while she spoke. "There was so much going on last time, so much uncertainty and things we were trying to figure out. It always felt like there was this black cloud hanging over us because of my aneurysm. But now we don't have to worry about that, and it's such a relief. We don't have to spend nine months worrying about me, or this baby- At least not for the reasons we did before… We can actually enjoy this pregnancy, and.. I dunno, it's a good feeling." She finished, the smile never leaving her face as she gathered her thoughts.

But when she saw the look coming from her husband, that grin fell a little, Matt's face somewhat blank as his eyes fell down in between them. She wasn't sure where his head was at, but her words had clearly triggered something inside him, Gabby's head falling to the side while she watched him swallow thickly.

"...You okay?" She questioned when he had yet to say anything, Matt clearing his throat before he lifted his head back up and met her gaze. Whatever was there moments ago was gone now, Casey putting that smile back on his face as he gave her hand another squeeze.

"Yeah, baby I'm fine. Just still taking all of this in, I think." He explained to her, Gabby pausing momentarily before she began to nod, accepting his words as she grinned softly. "Part of me is still processing everything Dr. Tanner told us. But you're right, things will be a lot different this time around."

There was something behind his words, almost a sternness to his voice that she hadn't been expecting. Like he was making a promise to her as much as he was agreeing with her, Gabby not entirely sure what to make of it. But she never got the chance to push further, as he brought her hand up to place a gentle kiss to her knuckles before he nodded towards their home.

"Are you ready to head in? See our girls?" He shifted the subject, Gabby matching his small smile while nodding back at him.

"I am." She agreed, the couple sharing one last look before they dropped the hold they had on each other, Gabby reaching down to slide the sonogram into her purse while Matt killed the engine, his hand moving to the door handle before pushing it open. Though before he stepped out, his wife's voice stopped him. "Wait, Matt-"

He turned back towards her with raised brows, Gabby running her teeth over her bottom lip while her palms settled together in her lap.

"I guess before we go in there, we should probably figure out what we want to do… About telling people." She spoke, her hand lifting up to rest lightly over her stomach while his eyes moved down in that direction, a look of understanding covering his face before he pulled his door shut. "I don't know what you're thinking, if you've thought about it."

"Not really, no." He responded with a wince. "I was so focused on getting through our appointment, I hadn't really thought of anything past that." Matt added on, seeing Gabby smile softly back at him.

"Yeah, I know what you mean." She replied, almost under her breath.

"But we should talk about it, figure out what we're wanting to tell people. If we want to tell people." Matt continued on, settling back into his seat inside the truck as he knew this wasn't a conversation that could be had in their home. Not with their parents and children just inside that door. "I know last time we waited to tell people until we got through the first trimester, and I'm fine to do that again. I don't mind either way… I'm good to do whatever you want." He explained to her, as Gabby nodded softly. "Cause yeah, this is our pregnancy, but it's your body. You're the one carrying our child, so whatever you want to do, however you want to tell people, that's what we'll do." He finished, earning a small smile from his wife as she reached for his hand once more.

"You're sweet." She spoke softly, lacing her fingers through his while drawing in a slow breath. "But I still want us to make this decision together. Although I think that's probably what we should do, is wait to tell people- our friends at least, till we've passed the first trimester." Gabby told him, earning an instant nod from Casey. "Just in case, I'd rather get through that and then once we have, we can tell the firehouse and whoever else you want. That feels good to me."

"Okay baby, then that's what we'll do." He agreed easily, seeing the sly grin that then appeared on her lips.

"But there are a few people I think we should go ahead and tell." She continued on quickly, Matt listening contently while she worked through the thoughts moving around her mind. "Obviously we'll need to tell the girls."

"I do, too." Matt said softly. "Though I'm not sure how much Sofia will understand what we're telling her." He added on with a quiet laugh, one Gabby mimicked before shrugging.

"It might take her a while to get it, but I still want to tell her and Caity together. I'm not exactly sure how to tell them yet, but I want to do it sometime soon. Just the four of us." She replied, Matt nodding understandingly before she continued. "And I do want to tell our parents, and my brother.. I want them to know." Gabby told him. "I know it's early, but I feel like they should know. And since our moms are leaving in a few days, I'd like to do it soon, too. So we can tell them in person."

"That sounds fine to me." He told her, his eyes flashing towards their home before returning to Gabby. "...You wanna tell them now?" Matt suggested, seeing her mull over his words for a moment until she shook her head.

"No, I don't think so… I'd like to tell Caity and Sof before anyone else." She explained, Matt's lips parting slightly before he started to nod in agreement. "I want them to be the first to know about their little sibling."

"Alright, well how about we tell them today then." He suggested with a small grin. "We'll let them know, and tomorrow we can tell our parents. We were supposed to have dinner with everyone tomorrow night anyway, we can do it then."

"Yeah, yeah that sounds good." She breathed out, rubbing her hand soothingly over her stomach while she spoke. "I'll just have to text Antonio, see if he can make it." Gabby added, Matt nodding back at her.

"I'm sure he'll be able to." He echoed, Gabby giving him a similar smile in response before taking another breath. "And, uh.. I know you want to wait to tell our friends. Which I agree with, but I do think we should tell Jemma." Matt voiced, the grin on Dawson's face growing at the mention of her best friend. "For your safety, and our baby's.. I'd feel more comfortable with you at work if she knew."

"Yeah, I was already thinking about that." She responded. "I know this is just another thing we need to discuss, how long I'm gonna work and stay on the rig. But for now, she should know. And because that helped me so much last time, telling her about Sofia." Gabby explained, earning another knowing nod from her husband. "So we'll need to tell her, and I guess we should probably tell Severide, too."

Matt's eyebrows raised slightly, prompting Gabby to let out a soft laugh.

"I don't want to tell too many people, but I feel like Severide deserves to know. He's your best friend, you shouldn't have to wait to tell him." She clarified, as Matt smiled gratefully. "And besides, if we tell Jemma and not him, we'll never hear the end of it."

Casey chuckled deeply, shaking his head back and forth before responding. "Yeah, you've got a point there.. So we'll tell Jemma and Severide, probably at the same time. Our parents, and the girls… Is there anyone else you want to know?" He asked, Gabby biting down on the inside of her cheek while she thought over his question.

"I think that's everyone. As far as I'm concerned, if we tell them then the people who need to know will know. Everyone else, we'll wait." She told him, Matt nodding sternly back at her.

"Alright, that's what we'll do." He repeated, seeing the thankful look he was getting from his wife before a soft, somewhat amused smile began to appear over her lips. "...What?" He asked, Gabby shrugging a bit before replying.

"Nothing… I was just thinking how I probably also need to let my Chief know." She said lightheartedly, her words prompting him to smirk while his head tilted to the side.

"Ahh, yes.. Your Chief definitely needs to know." He went along with her joking. "Though I have a feeling he's going to be pretty overprotective of his PIC now that she's pregnant." Matt said, Gabby laughing back at him before scrunching her nose up.

"You're probably right… Although I'm not sure that's very professional of him." She teased, a deep laugh coming from him as he responded.

"It's not.. But it's not professional for a Chief to get his PIC pregnant, either." He said shamelessly, Gabby matching his laugh while reaching out to shove his shoulder.

"Fair enough." She mused, Matt releasing another laugh before he moved his hand back towards the handle on the door.

"So, are you ready to head in there?" He prompted, now that he and Gabby knew they were on the same page.

"Yeah, I am.. Let's go see our girls." She replied, the two sharing another nod before they began to get out of Matt's truck.

The snow falling from the sky had picked up considerably while they were talking, but it wasn't enough to faze them as they gathered all their things and got up onto the sidewalk, Casey making sure to lock up his truck before they headed for the front door. Gabby stayed a step behind him while he worked on getting the key into the lock, checking to ensure she'd hidden the sonogram away in her purse before her husband finally got the door open and they headed inside.

"Mommy!"

The sound of their eldest daughter's screeching voice was the first thing they heard as Matt stepped in behind his wife, soft laughs coming from both of them as Caitlyn ran over to her parents.

Their daughter was still in her nightgown, her unruly blonde hair going in all different directions as it was clear she'd had a good night's sleep. As well as a relatively easy morning, as even though it was nearing noon neither of their girls had gotten ready for the day, Matt and Gabby both glad to see their babies so comfortable as Caitlyn hurried to them, with Sofia close behind her.

"Hi Mommy! And Daddy!" Caitlyn yelled happily, launching herself into Gabby's legs while Sofia went for her father, Matt reaching his hand out over Gabby's lower back to steady her just as Caity got to them. "I missed you!" She continued on, hugging herself to her mom's waist while Casey picked up Sofia.

"We missed you too, baby." Gabby replied, pressing a few kisses to the top of her head before looking up towards the other adults in the room.

Ramon and Nancy were seated on the couch, while Camila was across the room in the kitchen cleaning up a few things, Gabby offering them all a smile while hugging her daughter.

"Hey guys."

"Hi mija." Ramon spoke up first, as Sofia reached across Matt towards her mom, Gabby taking the toddler into her arms easily and settling her weight on her hip. She could feel Matt's eyes on her, like he was checking to make sure she was alright holding her, but neither of them said a word after Gabby gave him a subtle nod. "How'd your check-up go?"

"Yeah, what did the doctor say, sweetheart?" Camila repeated while stepping from the kitchen and coming closer to the rest of the group.

Gabby cleared her throat, sparing another glance towards her husband as she began to realize she was going to have to push her little white lie of where her and Matt were this morning a bit further. And even though she hated doing it, it was for the best reason.

"Oh, uh.. Everything was fine, I'm alright." She replied as vaguely as she could.

"So it was just a bug?" Camila pressed, Gabby pursing her lips together before she nodded.

"Yeah, it's not anything serious. He thought the same thing I did, that I just picked up something from a patient." She said, as her parents and Nancy nodded gratefully. "But it's passed for the most part."

"Good." Ramon replied.

"Yes, I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious… You had us worried, Gabriela." Camila told her, Gabby wincing slightly while she adjusted Sofia in her arms, trying to subtly move her daughter away from pressing into her chest.

"Sorry, Mama. But I'm okay." She assured her, Camila nodding once more while Caitlyn moved to hug her father.

"Hi Daddy." She greeted, Matt's smile widening before he reached down to pick her up.

"Hi princess." He told her, placing kisses all over her face while she giggled.

"Well, it's good to know you're alright mija. I'm glad you went and got looked at." Ramon spoke up, Gabby giving him a soft smile before she stepped further into their living room. "How were things at work?"

"It was okay." Casey fielded that one, following in his wife's steps until they came to a stop in front of the coffee table. "It was a long shift, we're pretty tired. But it was fine. How was everything here?"

"Oh, it was great." Nancy spoke up, causing Matt's smile to widen.

"The girls were angels. As always." Ramon added on, Gabby smirking while Casey released a soft laugh.

"Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. Our girls are the best." Matt replied, before pressing another kiss to Caitlyn's cheek. "Did you have fun with your grandparents, honey?"

"Yeah!" She replied excitedly. "We played lots of games, and went to a fun place to eat. And me and sissy built a snowman with Abuelo!"

"Really?" Matt responded with just as much enthusiasm, even though he already knew all of this from Nancy and Camila's frequent texts and photos throughout the day yesterday. "That sounds like so much fun."

"It was." She giggled in response. "Our snowman is still outside, we can go and see it!"

"We will, how about we do that in a bit, baby?" He compromised, Caitlyn nodding almost immediately while wrapping her arms loosely around his neck. "But I'm glad you and your sister had fun."

"Me too." She agreed, Matt letting out another amused laugh before he continued his path towards the empty chair next to the couch.

"Camila was about to make lunch for us and the girls, if you two are hungry." Ramon commented as Casey sat down, adjusting Caity in his lap.

"That would be great, yeah." Matt replied, before looking back towards Camila, who was already returning to her previous position in the kitchen. "As long as you don't mind, I don't care to make the girls their lunch." Casey offered. But Camila would have none of it.

"Nonsense, I don't mind Matthew." She waved him off, Matt giving her a nod before returning his attention back to the group in the living room.

While he spoke to Ramon and Nancy more about their shift, and what the girls had done while they were gone, Gabby put Sofia down onto the ground and let her run towards her father before Dawson started over towards the kitchen.

Camila was already busying herself with preparing lunch, Gabby watching her movements while she came up to the counter and leaned her weight against it.

"Thanks for doing all this, Mama." She said, Camila looking up from the bowl where she was preparing what looked to be pasta salad, before offering her a soft smile.

"You're welcome Gabriela, though like I told Matthew- I don't mind. I'm happy to help you all out as much as I can." She responded, her words causing the grin on Gabby's face to widen.

"Well, we really appreciate that. More than you know." She told her, Camila smiling gratefully before she continued on with making lunch. "..Do you need help with anything?"

"No, no, I'm fine. You should rest." She chastised gently.

"Mama…"

"Gabriela, you were very sick. Even if you're feeling better now, you don't need to overexert yourself." She cut her off, Gabby drawing in a deep breath before she nodded. "I don't mind the company, but you don't need to be doing anything. I've got it."

"Alright, Mama." She responded, before a comfortable silence fell over them.

They could hear the television playing in the living room, and the sounds of Matt talking with Ramon and Camila, along with some occasional words and laughs from Caitlyn and Sofia while they both sat in Matt's lap. But Gabby and Camila were both content with that, standing in silence while the latter made lunch for everyone, neither of them feeling the need to say much of anything until Camila finally spoke up minutes later.

"If it's alright with you and Matthew, I think your father and I were going to stay for a few more hours once we finish lunch. To spend some time with you and the girls." She stated.

"That's fine, we don't mind." Gabby replied quickly, seeing the soft smile that came to her mother's face. "You all can stay as long as you'd like."

"Thank you, mija." She told her, earning another nod from Gabby just before she let out a noticeable yawn, Camila watching her closely for a few moments before she spoke up. "...Were you able to get any sleep last night?" She questioned, the daughter soon meeting her mother's expectant gaze. "I know Matthew said you all were busy, and you look exhausted… Your eyes are a bit red, too. Kind of puffy." She commented, with an almost knowing, yet worried tone in her voice. One Gabby couldn't place.

"I slept some, not much." She said with a shrug. "I'm a little tired, but I'm fine."

"Alright." Camila told her, though it was clear she didn't necessarily believe her, the older woman pursing her lips together for a long second before continuing on. "Hopefully after lunch maybe you can get some rest. Which is even more of a reason for your father and I to stay. We can watch the girls while you sleep." She added, earning a grateful look from the younger Dawson before she nodded.

"Thank you, Mama." She spoke.

"You're welcome, mi amor… Now how about you get Matthew in here, to help me set the table." She moved on quickly, prompting Gabby to release a soft chuckle before she pushed herself off from the counter, heading back over to the living room to get her husband while Camila stayed in the kitchen.

"Raaa! Raa! Bear get Kay-Kay!"

Sofia's loud voice filled the living room while she and her oldest sister sat on the thick carpet, both girls holding up their stuffed animals as Caity played along with her younger sister.

"Ahh! Not the bear!" Caity said, Sofia giggling loudly before holding the toy up into the air, the six year old then pretending to get away from her youngest sister while they crawled across the floor.

This was a game they'd been playing for the past ten minutes or so, ever since Sofia had gotten back downstairs with her dad after getting ready for bed. And both girls seemed to be enjoying it, if anything because they were able to play together, Caitlyn being a good sport about whatever Sofia wanted to do as the Casey daughters continued to play their game, and wind down from the fun day at home they'd had together.

And across the room on the couch, Gabby was doing much of the same as she relaxed back into the cushions of their oversized sofa. Except in her case, she hadn't done much of anything today, as between Matt and her mother, they'd made sure she did nothing but rest for most of the afternoon.

After the family had their nice lunch together, and Gabby spent some time with everyone, it hadn't taken long for her to end up in her and Matt's bedroom for a nap. She'd stuck it out as long as she could, but their baby was already started to take it out of her as she found herself much more tired than usual. And, once Casey noticed this, he all but forced her to go and get some sleep, Gabby not putting up much of a fight before she went to go lay down.

In the comfort of their bed she'd managed to sleep for a few hours, Gabby only waking up once when Matt had come in to put Sofia down in their bed with her, as their two year old was evidently in need of a nap too. And as soon as she curled up with her mom, neither of them were up for very long, Gabby and Sof barely awake for a minute before they'd both fallen into a deep, comfortable sleep. Getting the rest they so desperately needed.

But what Gabby didn't realize is that while they were sleeping, Matt had made a point to take care of things around the house. With their parents around until late afternoon, he hadn't had to do everything on his own, but he still was picking up most of the slack for her. Though, to him, he didn't think of it that way, as he was just doing what his family needed. But it still meant everything to Gabby, Matt making sure to handle things around their home today so she could take it easy.

From entertaining their girls, and their parents, to getting a bit of cleaning done, then making their daughters' dinner before taking care of bathtime and getting them ready for bed; Matt had done it all. To where Caitlyn and Sofia were now freshly bathed and in their pajamas, waiting out the clock for bedtime while Gabby hadn't had to lift a finger the entire time. And even though he didn't want to be thanked for simply taking care of his girls, that didn't make her any less appreciative of him, as every day he reminded her of how incredible a man he was. For both her, and their daughters.

And she couldn't wait to see him being the exact same way with their baby, the thought bringing a smile to her face as she let her head rest back against the sofa, Gabby content to just sit there and watch her daughters' play while she waited for her husband to come back. Which, thankfully, didn't take very long, as within a few minutes Matt was walking down the stairs, Gabby's eyes moving over to him once he came into their living room.

"Raaa!" Sofia said again, Matt letting out a soft laugh as he watched his girls playing together before he walked past them towards the couch.

"Daddy! Sof got me." Caity said with a giggle, Casey shaking his head in amusement while sitting down next to his wife.

"Oh no! She got you?" He went along with their game, the six year old nodding as Sofia continued to playfully growl.

"Yeah!" She said, laughing once more before returning her attention to her little sister, while Casey settled back into the sofa.

"They've been doing this ever since you brought Sof down here." Gabby mentioned, causing her husband to smile before he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, the gesture inviting her to lean into him as Gabby rested her head down against his chest. "I think Sofia's having a little too much fun 'getting' Caity."

Her words pulled a deep chuckle from within his chest, Gabby feeling him shake slightly beneath her ear before he tightened his hold on her, pulling her body closer to his. "I don't doubt that." He spoke, his voice only loud enough for Gabby to hear. "But I'm glad they're having a good time."

"Me too." She murmured, drawing in a slow breath before she tucked herself deeper into his hold, Matt accepting the movement easily as he rubbed over the side of her arm before sliding his hand down to her side, not stopping until his palm was resting over stomach.

She could feel the warmth coming from him, even through his large t-shirt that was covering her body, Matt stroking his thumb over her lower stomach in a protective manner before he placed a kiss to the top of her head, his movements filling her with a sense of peace that was indescribable.

"How are you feeling?" He asked after a few minutes, breaking the comfortable quiet that had settled between them.

Gabby had gotten this question a lot today, from her parents especially, but with Matt it was different as he wasn't just asking for her, but for their baby too. "I'm okay." She softly responded, while moving her arm to wrap around the front of his waist. "I feel better now that I slept."

Matt nodded back at her, before letting his head gently rest down on top of hers. "...And how's baby?" He added on, bringing a smile to her face while she cuddled more into him.

"Baby's good… They definitely appreciated the nap." She told him, earning another laugh while he continued to rub his hand over her stomach.

"Good." He repeated, Gabby nodding against him before they both looked back over towards their girls, who were still playing together on the carpet.

Sofia hadn't seemed to get tired of her game just yet, and Caitlyn didn't mind to play along either, the two continuing on with their fun while Gabby and Matt watched them.

"Caity really is so good with her." Matt mused, Gabby grinning a bit in response before she nodded. "She always has been… Makes me wonder how great she'll be with her new baby brother or sister."

A rush of warmth started to move through Gabby's chest at the thought of Caitlyn and this new baby, of her and Sofia both with their younger sibling, the image of all three of their children something that made Dawson's heart constrict in her chest.

"Which, speaking of, do you still want to tell them the good news tonight?" He continued on, as Gabby took in a steady breath.

In all the chaos of the day, with Gabby resting most of the afternoon, and their parents being here a lot of the day, they hadn't gotten the chance to talk to Caity and Sofia about their new sibling. And now, Matt wasn't sure if they still should.

"Or should we wait until tomorrow?"

"No, no we need to tell them. I want to tell them." Gabby replied, feeling Matt nod against her. "I just hope they'll be excited about it." She breathed out honestly, her words causing Casey to hold onto her a little tighter, even though they'd caught him off guard.

"They will be." Matt assured her, keeping his voice low while Caitlyn and Sofia kept playing a few feet away. "It'll be an adjustment for all of us. And it might take some getting used to, but the girls are gonna love their sibling. I'm not worried about that." He spoke, the firmness of his words helping to ease some of her uncertainty.

"Yeah, I know they will.. I guess I'm more just thinking about Caity, and how she'll handle it." Gabby admitted, knowing she could be completely transparent with her husband. "It's crossed my mind some since we found out, not that I think she'll be unhappy. But she's just had so much change in her life already, and the whole time she's known us, it's only been the four of us…"

"I know, baby. It will be a big change, but it's a good thing." He spoke softly. "And if Caity's worried about us having another baby, we'll be there to help her through it. To let her know that whatever she's feeling is okay, and to make sure she knows how much we love her. That us having this baby won't make us love her any less." Matt continued on, like he was able to read the thoughts racing through her mind. "Whatever reaction she does have, we'll be there for her… But really, babe. I'm not worried about it, I think she's gonna be really happy." He finished, Gabby thinking over his words before she ultimately nodded.

"...How do you always know exactly what to say?" She questioned, pulling a laugh from him while he lifted his head up.

"From years of practice." He joked back, the two sharing another chuckle before they both started to sit up a little straighter on the sofa. "So… are you ready to tell them?" Matt asked, his eyes tracing over her face until she gave him a slow nod.

"I'm ready." She replied, Casey smiling her way and giving her a quick kiss before he turned his attention back towards their daughters.

"Hey Caity? Sof?" He called, prompting the girls to pause their playing as Caitlyn was the first to look over at their parents, before Sofia soon mimicked her actions. "Can you girls come here for a second? Your Mama and I wanna talk to you about something."

Caitlyn nodded, dropping her toys to the floor before she began to stand up. "Come on, Sof. Mommy and Daddy wanna see us." She instructed, grabbing ahold of her baby sister's hand and helping her up off the ground, before they walked over to the couch.

"Come here, princess." Matt murmured once they got to him, picking up Sofia and placing her in his lap while Caitlyn climbed up on the other side of Gabby, curling into her side while looking between her parents.

"Hi." Caity spoke up first, the abruptness of her voice causing Gabby to laugh softly while she wrapped her arm around her small body.

"Hi sweetheart." Gabby responded, the six year old's beaming smile never faltering as she continued to watch her mom and dad.

"You and Daddy wanted to tell me something." She stated. "Me and Sof."

"We do, honey. We want to talk to you for a little bit, and share something with you and your sister."

"Okay." She replied, clearly not fazed by what they were saying. "What is it?" She pushed on, before her eyes started to widen. "Is it a surprise?"

A soft gasp had left her throat when she spoke, the way her mind worked amusing both Matt and Gabby as the former spoke up.

"Well, kind of honey.. You could say that." Casey said with a smile.

"I love surprises."

"Yeah, we know you do.. And we hope you'll like this one, too." Matt continued on, earning a nod from their oldest daughter before he looked up to his wife, who gave him an encouraging look. Once he realized she wanted him to be the one to share this news, Casey cleared his throat, adjusting Sofia's weight in his lap before speaking once more. "Alright, well… Caity, and Sof, you know how your Momma has been pretty sick lately?" He started, the grin on Caitlyn's face falling as her lips pulled into a frown.

"Yeah… I didn't like it." She replied, shaking her head before finding her mother's gaze. "Are you okay, Mommy?"

"I'm fine, baby." She quickly assured her, not wanting Caitlyn to worry anymore than she already had. "I'm alright, there's nothing wrong."

"She's alright, Caity." Matt echoed, while Gabby ran her hand over the side of Caitlyn's arm, the little girl pausing momentarily before she nodded.

"Okay." She responded, Casey giving her a warm smile before continuing.

"But, we did find out why your mom had been sick." He told her.

"Cause you went to the doctor." Caity finished for him, Gabby smiling softly as Matt nodded.

"Yeah, we did.. We went to the doctor today, and now we know why she wasn't feeling well." He explained to her, making sure she understood what was being said before he kept on. "And we don't want you to worry, because we got some good news while we were at your mom's doctor."

Caitlyn's eyebrows furrowed, confusion playing out across her face while taking in his words. "Mommy was sick for a good reason?" The child questioned.

"She was." Matt repeated, Caity's lips parting slightly in wonder.

"I didn't know you could be sick for that." She commented after a moment, her voice a bit lighter than it had been moments prior.

"Yeah, you can baby. And that's what this was…" Casey said, glancing towards Gabby one last time before saying the next words that would change their family forever, seeing his wife nod at him, encouraging him to speak. Which he then did after taking a deep breath. "Because we found out today that your Momma is pregnant."

Gabby's eyes immediately went to Caitlyn as she processed what Matt had said, both parents seeing her little mind taking in what was being told to her, before she looked back up at Gabby with wide eyes.

"...We're gonna have another baby." Gabby spoke up for the first time in a minute, Caitlyn's mouth parting in surprise while the shock washed over her.

While Matt held onto Sofia, he could tell the two year old didn't understand much of what they were telling her. That she was just happy to be here with her family. But Caity, she knew exactly what they were saying.

Casey and Dawson just weren't sure what she thought of it.

"You're gonna have a baby?" She asked, repeating what had just been said to her as Gabby started to nod.

"We are… You're gonna be a big sister, again." Gabby said with a gentle look on her face, trying to prepare herself for any type of reaction from the young girl as she still wasn't giving them much to go on.

Not until a few seconds later, when the news seemed to finally sink in before a bright, enthusiastic smile formed over her face.

"You're having a baby." She said again, elation radiating off of her as she looked between her parents while reaching out to hold onto Gabby's leg. "I'm gonna be a big sissy again?"

"You are, honey." Gabby spoke, another wave of joy rushing through the child before she launched herself into her mother's arms.

The action caught her off guard, but Gabby soon hugged her back while feeling Matt reach out to steady them both, soft laughs coming from Dawson as Caitlyn was nearly shaking from excitement.

"Mommy's having a baby!" She cheered, Matt grinning brightly at his girls before Caity pulled back from the hug, giving the parents a clear view of the tears forming in their daughter's eyes. But they were happy ones, Caitlyn obviously overjoyed by the news as she never went far from her mother. "Mommy, you're gonna have another baby! Like Sof." She continued on, the smile never leaving her face while she looked towards Matt. "I'm gonna have more family!"

The pure bliss in her voice nearly made them cry, Casey sucking back his tears as he reached across Gabby to rub his hand over Caity's arm. "Oh sweetheart." Dawson murmured, her elevated hormones making it hard for her to keep her emotions in check.

"You are, baby." Matt responded after clearing his throat. "You're gonna have another little sister, or brother. Who will love you so, so much." He told her, causing the smile on her face to widen before she started to move around excitedly. "Someone who loves you as much as me and your Momma, and Sof do." He finished, Caitlyn nodding happily as her brown eyes widened.

"And I'm gonna love them as much as I love you and Mommy and Sof!" She agreed with a giggle, Gabby rubbing her arm affectionately before she leaned down to press a kiss to the top of her head. "I'm so happy you're having a baby, Mommy!"

"Me too, Caity." She whispered against her, giving her one last hug before Caitlyn glanced at her little sister.

"Sof! Sof, did you hear Mommy and Daddy? You're gonna be a big sissy!" She told her, her words gaining the toddler's attention even though she only knew bits and pieces of what she was saying. "Sof, there's a baby in Mommy's belly."

Sofia looked to her mom, seeing Caitlyn beginning to rub lovingly over Gabby's stomach before a wide, toothy grin appeared over the two year old's face.

"Baby." She replied brightly, causing Gabby and Matt to laugh while Caitlyn nodded eagerly.

"Yeah! There's a baby in here!" She told her, the attention on Gabby causing Sofia to crawl out of her father's lap and move closer to her mom, placing her hand next to Caitlyn's on Dawson's stomach.

"Baby Mommy's belly." Sofia repeated, Gabby feeling more tears spring to her eyes as her youngest daughter started to cuddle into her.

"We're gonna have a little sister or brother!" Caitlyn continued on, Sofia grinning from ear to ear while resting the side of her face against Gabby's waist.

"Baby." She said again, Dawson blinking back her tears before she looked up towards her husband, who was watching the three of them with an almost overwhelming amount of love in his gaze.

"I told you." He murmured, Gabby letting out a soft scoff while rolling her eyes, despite the smile that never fell from her lips as Matt's own grin widened before he leaned forward to give her a kiss. "And I love you."

"I love you, too."

"I love you, three!" Caitlyn interjected, pulling laughs from her parents as they separated from one another, both of them glancing down to their girls who were still cradling Gabby and her stomach. "I love you and Mommy, and Sof, and my little brother or sister."

"We love you too, Caity. All of you." Matt told her, the little girl smiling before she returned her attention back to her mother, and the baby in her stomach.

And that was where they all stayed for the next few minutes, none of them in a hurry to move as they basked in this moment together, the excitement and joy they were feeling something they never wanted to forget as every single member of the Casey household was beyond thrilled about the newest addition to their family.
