Chapter 1

A large black SUV bounced across the sand coming upon the large base that was surrounding the crater, with other vehicles, trailers, and barricades.

Everleigh looked out the window with her pale lips pursed together as Clint continued to drive, before parking. Everleigh unbuckled herself and slowly got out of the SUV. She shielded her eyes with her hand blinking a few times trying to adjust to the bright sun that was beating down upon them.

Clint got out of the SUV and made his way over to Everleigh. "Coulson said that they needed you on the main level."

Everleigh turned her head to look over at Clint. "To look over the fallen item to find out what it is, am I correct? That's the only reason why Director Fury wanted me here to begin with." She said crossing her arms a little feeling a bit upset with the whole idea of having Fury dictate to her when to use her powers. It wasn't like she was dangerous and was going to hurt someone with them, she had a better control over them than she had over her other gift.

Clint patted her shoulder before turning to head inside. "If you need anything, call over the coms." He hollered back at her as he headed inside.

Everleigh chewed the inside of her lip before letting out a breath. She knew that Clint was watching out for her and that was a good thing. He was watching out for her like he would a little sister and she was thankful for that. "You got it, Clint." She called back before slowly heading inside as well. She followed the winding paths heading to the main area of where the item that she was supposed to look at laid. She took a breath as she walked.

"Good you're here." Coulson said moving towards her, shaking her hand fairly quickly before turning on his heels leading her to the main level.

"No one has tried to move it?" Everleigh questioned as she followed Coulson.

"Affirmative. No one has been able to move it at all. It's like it is cemented to the spot." Coulson explained as they walked.

Everleigh's brows furrowed in concern. "Now that is certainly odd." She said as she came into the room. She slowed when she saw the hammer there embedded into a large piece of rock. She took a breath before slowly moving towards it.

"Careful." Coulson told her as she moved towards it.

Everleigh looked over her shoulder at Coulson. "I'll be alright." She said, giving him a small smile before getting closer to it. She slowly brought her hands out and a soft blue light came from her hands as she waved them gently over the hammer that was in the ground. Her brows furrowed in concentration.

Coulson watched with a worried gaze as the hammer reacted a little to the blue light that came from her sending bolts from it.

Everleigh pulled back as a bolt hit her hand. Her brows furrowed a little as her hands stopped glowing. She blinked a few times in confusion. "I've never seen or felt anything like this." She said turning to Phil. "This is no ordinary hammer… And what is inside of it… it's not ordinary either… it's like…" She trailed off to think of how to tell him what she had felt.

"What did you feel?"

"There is some sort of magic that is tied to it." Everleigh said as she looked at Phil her eyes filled with concern. "I've never felt magic like this before…"

"Is it like yours?" He asked hoping that she would be able to give him some sort of information that would be able to help them.

Everleigh shook her head as she felt her heart ram inside her chest. "No, I've never felt magic like this before." She let out a breath running her hand through her dirty blonde hair. "I don't know what to tell Director Fury… this is something far greater than what we thought it was."

"You think it's dangerous?"

"It could very much be more dangerous than what we think it is." Everleigh took a breath. "We might want to strengthen security around it… make sure no one tries to get their hands on it… I have a bad feeling that this is a weapon of some kind that should not be here." She said as she turned to walk away.

"Where are you going?" Coulson asked, wondering where the young woman was off to this time.

"I'm going to go and put the order in for more agents to come down here… we can't risk ourselves in any sort of way." She said as she walked away pursuing her lips together. She didn't like the feeling that she had gotten from the hammer, nor the electric shock from it. She knew right away that she was going to have to do some research in hopes of finding some sort of answer of what this hammer might be.

She walked down the winding paths to where they had some computers and cameras set up watching the hammer. She took a soft breath and pulled out her phone before dialing the number that she knew well. She held it up to her ear nibbling her lower lip as she waited for someone to answer the phone. "Yes, this is Agent Vincen. We're going to need more agents down here in New Mexico. Yes…" She let out a scoff. "Yes, I know that, but we'll need more agents down here just in case… better to have extra than having our asses hanging out to dry. Yes. Yes you do that. Thank you." She hung up her phone letting out another scoff.

"Let me guess getting into a little tiff with one of the newer agents?" Clint said coming up behind her.

Everleigh turned and looked at Clint. "Yes, one of the newer agents that is supposed to be watching Captain Rogers." Everleigh shrugged her shoulders a little bit.

"Ah Agent Carter."

Everleigh nodded her head. "She doesn't like the idea that we need more agents down here."

"But it is better to be more prepared."

"With what I felt off that hammer, yes." Everleigh said, letting out a soft breath.

"You think it's dangerous?"

"That's what I'm beginning to think Clint. I'm thinking that it is a very dangerous weapon… it shocked me when I used my magic on it…"

"And you've never felt magic like that before?"

Everleigh shook her head. "No, it is so much different than mine… I can't help but wonder where it came from. It can't be from here, that's for sure." Everleigh admitted softly as she rubbed her arms.

Clint patted her arm softly knowing how she felt. He knew that she occasionally got a bit overwhelmed with things that went on around her. "Hey… you're alright… take a deep breath."

Everleigh took a shaky breath and closed her eyes.

"You don't want to be changing in front of everyone… you have control of yourself."

Everleigh nodded her head shakily looking up at Clint. "Thanks Clint." She said softly.

Clint patted her arm softly. "Hey you know I will always look out for you."

Everleigh gave him a small weak smile.

Clint patted her arm softly. "We got work to do."

Everleigh nodded her head softly. "Yeah we do." She said softly as she moved towards where the computers were to help some of the shield agents who were busy working on scanning the hammer. She looked at the scans that they were getting. She pursed her lips together into a thin line. Of course the scans wouldn't come up normal with the hammer. She swallowed the lump in her throat before moving away. She slowly turned to Clint and nodded her head in confirmation that they needed to do things differently this time around.
