Chapter 5
Thor and the others came out of the building to see the Bifrost storm forming in the distance.
Everleigh's brow raised as she looked out in the distance. "What on earth…"
"Was somebody else coming?" Darcy questioned softly.
Suddenly the Bifrost funnel exploded down to the ground.
Everleigh let out a soft gasp her hand shooting up her to her com trying her best to listen into what was going on at the site, but was only getting static. "Shit…" She muttered softly as she continued to try and get her com to work. "Come on…"
THORTHOR
The townspeople began to fill the streets, staring at the fire fight in the distance.
Everleigh let out a breath and began to prepare herself for a fight.
Thor began to prepare himself for a fight with his friends. Thor turned to Jane. "Leave this town now. Get yourself and your friends to safety."
"What about you?" Jane asked softly, looking at him with wide scared brown eyes.
"I must stay and fight."
The Asgardians looked to Thor.
"I'm still a warrior, and I will fight by your side."
"You're but a mortal now. You'll get yourself killed!" Volstagg said, looking at his friend.
"Or one of us, trying to protect you." Frandral said, shaking his head.
"The best thing you can do is get the mortals to safety and leave the battle to us." Sif said, shaking her head.
Thor looked around at the townsfolk around them, they were oblivious to what was to come. "You're right."
Sif looked at Thor surprised.
Thor turned to Jane, Selvig, and Darcy. "Help me clear the streets. I'll let none of these people die this day."
"I'll hold up a forcefield to make sure no one gets hurt." Everleigh told them softly. "Go get them out of here before that thing gets here."
Thor looked at Everleigh with a bow of his head in thanks; he moved quickly to help Jane, Selvig, and Darcy get the crowds of townsfolk off of the streets.
Everleigh waved her hands and they glowed blue. She slowly raised herself into the air and then brought her hands out putting up a blue force field to keep everyone protected who needed to get away from the town. She watched the Warriors Three and Sif head across the town with her brows furrowed in worry. She wondered if they would be fine on their own. She looked back at Thor, Jane, and Selvig who were still clearing the streets out and getting everyone indoors or inside of cars.
Everleigh turned her head sharply and let out a gasp seeing the Destroyer, striding down the street, a red, fiery energy glowing from within it. She suddenly felt some of the heat from a blast that it sent out blowing up cars and setting storefronts aflame. She quickly moved back, her eyes widening in concern. What on earth was that thing? It certainly wasn't of this world. She got herself to the ground and moved quickly to where Thor was. She put herself behind him. "You can not go down there…"
Thor looked on anxiously watching where his friends were getting into position before the Destroyer. He then looked at Jane. "My friends fight bravely, but they won't be able to hold it back much longer."
Everleigh turned her head to see Darcy running out of a burning pet store carrying as many animals in cages as she could, before loading them up into a truck. She then turned her attention to Thor seeing him growing more and more concerned.
Thor watches his friends lying injured on the ground, but has no time to act, as the Destroyer fires in their direction.
A storefront near Smith Motors explodes, knocking Thor, Jane, Selvig, and Everleigh off their feet.
Thor helped Jane up to her feet when they suddenly noticed Selvig laying on his back amidst the debris, impaled by a twisted piece of iron.
Everleigh quickly moved forward.
"Erik!" Jane said as she hurried to his side with Thor beside her.
Everleigh's hands glowed blue as she tried to stop the blood that was flowing from his body.
"Go! Leave me!" Selvig ordered Jane.
Everleigh tried her best to concentrate on what she was doing. "Shhh.. you mustn't talk, Dr. Selvig." She said softly as her eyes began to glow blue.
"What… what are you?" He asked softly as he panted softly looking up at the young woman that was trying to keep him alive.
Jane took Selvig's hand shakily into hers sniffling softly.
"I guess they call me a witch?" Everleigh said softly. "I don't know." She shook her head as she tried to keep his blood from pouring out. Her head turned sharply when she saw Thor return with something in his hand and holding it over the iron rod.
"What are you doing? What is that?" Jane questioned her brown eyes growing wide.
The stone began to glow and Thor crushed it.
Jane watched on amazed as the glowing powder fell upon the piece of iron, dissolving it, heading downwards, until it reached his wound. The powder healed his wound completely.
Everleigh looked up at Thor with wide eyes. "Holy…"
Thor turned his head to look down the street to see his friends wounded, still laying there.
Selvig slowly sat up in utter astonishment. He reached through the hole in his shirt to touch his healed flesh. "I'm really starting to like him."
Jane turned to find Thor had gone.
Everleigh let out a groan. "God… he has a death wish." She muttered softly looking at him going right for his friends.
"You can help him." Jane said softly.
"I have a duty to protect you… he's made his choice." Everleigh said, looking at Jane with her violet eyes. "And I protect those who need it the most. Which is you, Dr. Selvig and your friend Darcy. And all the others in town… Thor has made his choice…"
"But you have magic…"
"I know I have magic." She said looking at Jane. "And I can only help very little… I can't help everyone… don't make me choose to help him." Everleigh watched in concern as Thor began to walk towards the Destroyer and her heart pounded in her chest. She watched in horror as a sickening crack was heard of metal meeting flesh cracking of bones as Thor went flying and landed before them in a broken heap.
Jane tried to rush out to Thor's aid, but Selvig held her back.
"Jane, no!" Selvig pulled into Smith Motors.
Everleigh took a breath as she quickly went inside before putting a barrier up of magic. She looked up at Jane with tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry…"
"You could've helped him."
Everleigh looked down knowing that she could've helped Thor, but she had a duty to protect humans not him.
Suddenly a blinding bolt of lightning struck down from above, colliding with the Destroyer's blast. The explosion is massive causing the Destroyer to be hurled backwards, a cloud of dust enveloping the street.
Jane looked out in awe. "Oh. My. God."
Everleigh let out a gasp as she looked out in awe.
There stood Thor, clad in his full battle armor, holding Mjolnir in his hand, the God of Thunder once more. Thor kneels, bringing Mjolnir down to the ground. Lightning struck the destroyer causing it to convulse. Thor swung Mjolnir around, and took off straight up into the air, as the destroyer got back up onto its feet and looked up at the Thunder god. Storm clouds gathered around Thor as he summoned gale force winds. Debris from the battle began to rise up into the sky.
The Destroyer stayed there kept grounded by its massive weight. It lifted its head up at the god of thunder, opened up its face plate, locked it in place and unleashed a blast.
Thor dived downward straight at it, with Mjolnir before him. Mjolnir collided with the Destroyer's fiery energy blast, overpowering it, pushing it back, forcing it downwards at the destroyer. Thor jammed his hammer deep into the destroyer's faceplate.
The fiery energy within the creature builds up and explodes within him, firing out of all his openings.
Thor smashed the Destroyer to the ground in a tremendous heap, the fiery energy within it extinguished forever. Thor pulled Mjolnir from its faceplate and walked away from its lifeless carcass. As he did so other objects of the debris pulled into the air by the gale winds dropped down from the skies around the destroyer burying it.
Jane, his comrades, and Everleigh joined Tor.
A battered Coulson approached him with several agents. "Donald... I don't think you've been
completely honest with me."
Everleigh let out a soft laugh shaking her head lightly.
