Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 8 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. Thank you to all of those who have kept up with this story, it really means a lot to me. I hope that you guys enjoy this next part. We have the Avengers now up next. I can't wait for you guys to see the first part of this movie. It took me a little bit to figure out what to do with this chapter, but I hope you enjoy this part because this was a very interesting chapter to write. I hope that you all enjoy it. Without further ado Chapter 8. Enjoy!

Chapter 8

Everleigh was busy getting people off of the base as the sirens went off and lights flashed around them. Everleigh let out a breath as she helped a few scientists into a vehicle.

"All personnel, evacuation order has been confirmed. Proceed to your designated vehicles for all campus evacuation."

Security guards directed traffic to get people out of there.

Other Shield agents assisted other people, some began to stuff the trunks of their cars before leaving the campus.

Everleigh quickly headed back inside to get to Dr. Selvig.

"This is not a drill. Emergency personnel proceed to your designated vehicles for all campus evacuation."

Everleigh turned her head and saw Director Fury coming into the room as she turned her attention back to Dr. Selvig. "Dr. Selvig it's time for us to go." She told him softly.

"Talk to me, Doctor." Director Fury ordered the older man who was trying his best to work with the glowing box.

"Director." Doctor Selvig said as he turned around to look at the Director.

"Is there anything we know for certain?"

"The Tesseract is misbehaving."

"Is that supposed to be funny?"

"No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's misbehaving."

Everleigh let out a soft groan knowing that was a very bad sign knowing that the Tesseract was misbehaving, who knows what problems it would bring into the world.

"How soon can you pull the plug?"

"She's an energy source. We turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level."

"We prepared for this, Doctor. Harnessing energy from space."

"We don't have the harness. My calculations are far from complete. She's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of Gamma radiation."

"That can be harmful. Where's Agent Barton?"

Everleigh looked up into the balcony knowing where he was shaking her head lightly.

"The hawk? Up in his nest, as usual."

"Agent Barton. Report."

Clint ziplined down a rope down to a lower level to where Director Fury, Doctor Selvig, and Agent Vincen were standing at.

"I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things." Fury scolded as he walked with Clint and Everleigh towards the Tesseract machine. "With Everleigh as your back up."

"I see better from a distance." Clint said backing up why he was up in the rafters.

"Have you seen anything that might set this thing off?"

Everleigh froze in her tracks taking a shaky breath.

"Doctor! It's spiking again." A Nasa scientist called over in shock as he watched the readings go up.

Clint and Fury step onto the platform in front of the machine with Everleigh right behind them, who was a bit slower.

"No one's come and gone. And Selvig's clean. No contacts, no IM. If there's any tampering, sir, it

wasn't this end."

"At this end?"

"Barton's right sir." Everleigh said softly looking at their boss knowing that it was true. It wasn't coming from this end, it had to be coming from the other side.

"Yeah. The Cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right? Doors open from both sides." Clint said with a firm nod of his head knowing that this thing that they had was bothering Everleigh in the worst way possible. He had seen her change a few times while the cube had been misbehaving and they had ordered the evacuation and he had to order her over the coms to calm herself in order to get people to safety.

Everleigh turned her head sharply feeling the pulsation coming off of the cube.

The cube began to spark.

"Oh that can't be good…" Everleigh said softly, looking at the cube with wide eyes.

"What's that?" Selvig said, looking at the cube before it sparked again.

The cube sparked some more, bigger each time. A beam of energy which suddenly opened into a portal appeared. There was suddenly a loud explosion. A cloud from the beam floats to the top of the chambe. On the platform stood Loki, kneeling.

Several guards moved in slowly.

Loki looked up, grinning menacingly, slowly standing up.

Everleigh's eyes widened remembering who he was.

Loki looked around the room eyeing everyone in the room.

"Sir, please put down the spear!" Fury ordered trying to diffuse the situation before it got worse.

Loki looked at his scepter and then fired a stream of blue light from it.

Barton quickly pushed Fury out of the way.

The guards began to open fire.

Loki jumped at them, firing more energy at them fighting, shooting scientists and agents as he went.

Clint moved towards him but Loki grabbed his arm.

"CLINT!" Everleigh yelled in shock moving forward.

"You have heart." Loki said as he touched the tip of the spear to Clint's chest and his eyes became ice blue.

Clint put his gun away.

Loki turned and did it to another agent before doing it to Everleigh causing a gasp to come from her lips as he did so.

Fury quickly pulled the Cube from the machine it was in and shut it into a briefcase, before turning to leave.

"Please don't. I still need that." Loki said, causing Fury to stop in his tracks.

"This doesn't have to get any messier."

"Of course it does. I've come too far for anything else. I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose."

Selvig kneeled, checking the pulse of one of the Nasa scientists that were there. He slowly got up to his feet and approached slowly. "Loki, brother of Thor?"

"We have no quarrel with your people."

"An ant has no quarrel with a boot."

"You planning to step on us?"

"I come with glad tidings, of a world made free."

"Free from what?"

"Freedom. Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart." Loki said, turning and placing the spear tip on Selvig's chest. "you will know peace."

Clint saw the Tesseract portal cloud, brewing and moved towards Loki.

"Yeah, you say peace. I kinda think you mean the other thing."

"Sir, Director Fury is stalling. This place is about to blow and drop a hundred feet of rock on us. He means to bury us."

"Like the pharaohs of old."

"He's right. The portal is collapsing in on itself. We've got maybe two minutes before this goes

critical." Selvig said, looking at Loki.

"Well then."

Clint quickly drew his gun and shot Fury, who dropped the case to the ground.

Everleigh waved her hands glowing blue and the case moved to her hands quickly. She grabbed the handle of it as she, Clint, Loki, Selvig and the other agent left the room. Everleigh followed them under a closing gate as Agent HIll came out of the back room.

"We need this vehicles." Clint said to Maria barely looking at her.

"Who's that?" Maria questioned as she looked at Loki with a look of confusion upon her face.

"Didn't tell me."

The roof began to slowly crumble.

Loki got into the shield pickup truck as Selvig entered the passenger seat.

Everleigh got into the back of the truck with Loki holding the case upon her lap.

"Hill! Do you copy? Barton...has turned."

Clint pulled out his gun and fired at Agent Hill, who rolled behind the back room wall and returned fire. Clint entered the driver's seat of the pickup truck and began to drive off with Loki and Everleigh in the bed of the truck.

Loki turned in the back and fired a beam from his spear, flipping a car over on its head, blocking the pursuing vehicles and fleeing cars.

Clint sped up the truck because he came up on an intersection and Hill was speeding right off of the right tunnel, coming face to face with them. Clint shot through the window at Hill who returned fire through her windshield. Clint fired one more time only to be fired back at.

Finally he got the upper hand and he swung in front of Agent Hill cutting her off.

Loki looked at the exit to see if they would make it out of there.

Everleighs hands went up, stopping the rubble from raining down on them as Clint made their way out of the tunnels.

They escaped moments before the tunnel was covered up by a fallen ceiling.

Clint drove frantically trying to get away from Fury's helicopter that was following them in the sky as Fury shot at them.

Loki blasts the helicopter and Fury jumps to the ground as it crashes to the ground as he continues to fire his gun. Loki let out a soft chuckle as they got away. He looked over at the young woman who sat across from him that held onto the Tesseract in the suitcase holding it tightly in her blue glowing hands. He knew right away he had a large use for her yet and she was going to be rather useful in his plans going forward, but it was such a pity that he had to put a fellow magic user under the powers of the scepter. But oh well perhaps he would be able to wean her off of it and be able to get her to see his side of things and corrupt her and make her follow his orders.

This is the end of Chapter 8. I hope that you all enjoyed it. I worked fairly hard on this chapter. It's a little bit longer than what I usually write, but it's good that I did write it a bit longer. And I know he had her brainwashed, but I promise you that it won't deter their relationship or will it? Oh well who will know. Just keep in mind reviews help keep me going.
