Chapter 21
Thor and Everleigh travelled through the Bifrost and entered Asgard where Heimdall was waiting.
Everleigh blinked a few times as she looked around. "What…" She looked over and saw Heimdall standing there. "Oh… hello." She said softly.
"Welcome to Asgard." Heimdall said with a smile.
Everleigh looked up at Thor. "Why did you bring me here Thor?" She questioned softly.
"We need to have you checked out, Lady Everleigh. Something is wrong with you."
"I know." She said softly as her legs buckled. "My magic is fighting with something…"
Thor looked at her with a concerned gaze. He knew that wasn't a good sign.

Everleigh watched as the Asgardian physicians looked over her and the force inside of her body. "What's that?" She asked softly as her brows furrowed together in concern.
"Be still." Eir said, looking at the young woman on the table.
Thor watched with one of the nurses as they continued to look over Everleigh. "This is not of Earth, what is it?" He questioned softly looking over at the nurse.
"We do not know, but she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her. Even with the barrier her magic has around her body." The nurse turned and walked away from Thor as he looked worried about his friend. What would happen if this thing killed her and the Avengers found out that he didn't do everything in his power to help her live. What would his friends think of him then? Would Jane be angry that she lost a friend who had been there with her for over a year watching over her. Would Everleigh be upset with him if she died?
"What exactly is this?" Everleigh questioned softly her brows furrowed together as she looked at the shimmering part above her that was scanning her body.
"It's a Soul Forge." Eir said, looking down at the woman.
"Oh…"
Odin entered the room as Thor looked on as Everleigh continued to be examined. "My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?" Odin snapped at his eldest son as he came towards Thor with an irritated look upon his face.
"She's ill." Thor said, looking at his father.
"She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait."
"I brought here because we can help her."
"She does not belong here in Asgard anymore than a goat belongs at a banquet table."
Everleigh slowly sat up and looked at Thor. "Did he just…" She looked at Odin with narrowed eyes. "Who do you think you are?"
"I'm Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms."
She rolled her eyes. "Oh, well, I don't really care."
"I know very well who you are, Everleigh Miranda Vincin."
Everleigh looked over at Thor. "You told your father about me?"
Thor looked to his father ignoring the fact that Everleigh was being a bit rude with his father, but he knew that she didn't like to be cornered into anything or be talked down to. "Something is within her, father, something I have not seen before."
"Her world has its healers, they're called doctors, let them deal with it. Guards, take her back to Midgard."
Two guards approached Everleigh to grab her, but suddenly the energy force within her set off again in a purple blast throwing the two guards aside.
"Don't touch her." Thor said as he leaned down and tenderly touched Everleigh to not set off the energy inside of her. "Everleigh, are you alright?"
Everleigh groaned and nodded her head softly.
Odin began to inspect the energy force that was running through her body and realized quickly what it was. "That's impossible."
Eir came up slowly. "The infection, it's defending her."
"No, it's defending itself." Thor said, shaking his head lightly.
"Come with me. There are relics that predate the universe itself. What lies within her appears to be one of them. The Nine Realms are not eternal. They had a dawn as they will have a dusk." Odin showed Thor and Everleigh an ancient book. "But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged."
""Born of eternal night, the Dark Elves comes to steal away your light." They were these stories mother told us as children." Thor said looking up to his father.
"Their leader, Malekith made a weapon out of that darkness, it was called the Aether. While the other relics often appeared as stones, the Aether is fluid and ever changing. It changes matter into dark matter and seeks out to host bodies, drawing strength from their life force. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But after eternities of blood shed, my father Bor, finally triumphed, ushering in the peace that lasted thousands of years."
"What happened?" Everleigh questioned as she shakily leaned against Thor as her magic continued to fight with the Aether.
"He killed them all." Odin said it was the easiest thing in the world to do.
"Are you certain? The Aether was said to have been destroyed with them and yet here it is."
"The Dark Elves are dead."
"Does your book happen to mention how to get it out of me?" Everleigh questioned as she looked at Odin. "Before it decides to kill me when my magic fails me?"
Odin looked at the girl knowing now she was different than any human that he had met. "No, it does not."
Everleigh looked down knowing that wasn't a good sign. What if she couldn't return home to see Clint and Natasha, the very two that had given her a home in Shield?
"Come let me show you a room." Thor said softly, leading her away from Odin.
Everleigh walked with Thor. She nervously looked at Thor. "Thor…"
"Yes?"
"Have you told them that Loki was under mind control?" She asked softly.
Thor shook his head lightly. "No, I doubt that my father would even listen."
Everleigh bit her lip softly. "They really deserve to know that he was under mind control. Where is he at?" She questioned gripping onto his red cape.
Thor swallowed the lump in his throat. "The dungeons…"
"Where are those at?" Everleigh demanded to look at Thor with her now violet colored eyes. "I want to see him."
"Lady Everleigh, you don't want to see him."
"I want to see him, Thor."
"But you are unwell."
"I don't care if I'm unwell Thor. I want to see him."
Thor nodded his head. "It's not too far." He said finally giving in on Everleigh's demands. He knew that she wouldn't give up on seeing Loki. Thor slowly led her towards the area of where Loki was being held. He looked over at her nervously wondering what she would think of seeing Loki in a cell. He hoped that she wouldn't think anything less of him.
Everleigh followed him, her hands gripped tightly at her sides. She nibbled her lower lip softly between her teeth nervously.
Thor slowed down and came to a stop. "I can go no further without setting him off." Thor said softly.
Everleigh nodded her head slowly and walked towards where Loki was being held. She bit her lower lip softly seeing him in the cell.
Loki's eyes slowly slid up feeling magic in the area. His eyes slid up to her and his brows furrowed. "You."
Everleigh nodded her head softly. "Yes."
Loki saw something swirl in her eyes. His brows furrowed even more as he moved closer to the glass. His head cocked to the side a little as he looked at her.
"I know you didn't mean what you did on earth."
Loki looked up into her violet colored eyes which swirled from her natural blue tone, to violet, to red. "Oh you don't think I did?"
"You were under the control of the scepter that you used… Your eyes are green and not blue. I'm smarter than you think Loki."
Loki's hands went to the glass looking at her. "And you are unwell…"
Everleigh looked down rather nervously. "Your father… your adoptive father told me I had absorbed the Aether."
Loki's eyes went wide when he heard that. His hands beated against the glass causing it to shudder. "Don't you know what that is?!" His voice came out fairly low causing her to shiver at the tone of his voice.
"No, should I?"
"It is a dangerous item… it being in your body, it'll kill you." Loki said softly, his voice going lower than ever as tears came to his eyes.
"I can already tell." She said softly, looking up at him. "My magic is trying to fight it and protect my body from it…" Her violet eyes searched for him in worry. "Why would you care? If I die?" She swallowed the thick lump in her throat that had formed.
"It would be a painful death for you…"
Everleigh tried to look into his eyes. "Why do you care?"
"No one deserves a death like that. You…" Loki let out a breath. "You my dear was the only person that figured out the truth. That I was under the spell."
Everleigh took a soft tired breath, her hand rested against the glass.
Loki's hand slowly went to where it was.
"Answer me, why do you care if I live or die?"
"Because you, my dear, are special."
"Is that why you took me when you came for the tesseract?" She asked, her voice fairly soft.
"Yes… your magic won't be able to hold that back much longer. It will kill you…"
Everleigh took a soft breath. "I know…" She said softly, looking up at him once again. "I'm willing to have it kill me…"
Loki's eyes widened. "You're insane."
Everleigh shrugged her shoulders. "I know, but you knew that if I stood by your side and believed that you are innocent of what happened on Earth." She took a soft breath.
"Don't do this." He said pleading with her softly.
Everleigh gave him a soft look. "I will be sure to use my last bit of life to get you out of this cell." She said softly, pulling away from the glass. "I hope to see you again Loki." She slowly walked away.
