Chapter 5 Truths are Revealed

"ERZA!"

"NATSU!"

Natsu thrust his fist forward, and Erza thrust her sword, their two attacks about to clash with each Erza thrust her sword forward Natsu swiftly dodged it and at that moment. Natsu then punched her right in the face knocking her back, Erza quickly regained her footing and charged at Natsu.

Erza once again slashed her sword at Natsu but he continued to dodge it. Natsu kicked the blade out of Erza's hand. He then punched Erza in the gut sending her back to a tree once again.

Natsu then grabbed Erza's sword which was on the ground and he charged at her. Natsu then charged at Erza who was trying to recollect herself. Erza looked up and saw Natsu charging at her with a sword in his hand. Erza's eyes widened so she could feel the bloodlust coming from Natsu.

Happy saw the intent in Natsu's eyes, he was going to kill her "STOP! NATSU!"

Natsu was about to bring the blade down at Erza, but then Natsu felt himself get pinned down, someone holding his arm with a tight grip and a knee on his back.

"That's enough Natsu," a stern voice said, Natsu's, Erza's, and Happy's eyes widened at the voice.

"Master," both Erza and Happy said.

Natsu looked up and glared at Makarov and the Master's eyes widened, eyes filled with hatred and darkness.

"Were you going to kill Erza, Natsu," Makarov questioned with a stern look.

Natsu gave the old man no answer and looked away.

"It's okay to fight your friends, but never to the extent of killing, I thought you knew that," Makarov lectured as he released Natsu from his grip. "Why did you display such behavior,"

Natsu scoffed, refusing to answer.

"It couldn't be those feelings of his have returned, then he remembers his brother now," Makarov thought.

"Natsu," Erza said.

Makarov signed "I'm sorry to say this, but I can not allow you to proceed in this exam, Natsu,"

Natsu scoffed and said nothing, he just remained silent and walked away. Though he looked back at Erza with a cocky smirk, as despite failing the exam he still felt he won.

"Natsu," Happy cried, the Exceed was about to follow, but Makarov stopped him.

"Leave him be Happy," Makarov told the Exceed. "Let him think to himself,"

Once Natsu walked far enough he looked back and the others were no longer in his sight. Natsu looked up and his eyes widened in shock, he saw dozens of swords in the sky.

"How? When did she?" Natsu clenched his fist, it was then he remembered when he was about to attack Erza in the fight, he saw that she was about to Requip something. "If the old man didn't stop me, then I've would've,"

Natsu punched a nearby tree in anger "Damn it, how is she always so much stronger than me,"

Natsu then slumped down in defeat and leaned against a tree and looked up at the sky.

"Master, are you sure it's okay, to disqualify Natsu," Erza asked.

"I'm afraid I had no choice if the battle had prolonged Natsu surely may have killed you," Makarov told her.

"Master is Natsu going to be okay," Happy asked.

Makarov shook his head "I am not sure, he barely had a reaction to being disqualified in the exam, We'll check on him later, for now I need to address the others they're probably done by now, You and Happy go back to the camp, and wait there maybe Natsu will be there,"

Erza bowed "Yes, Master, let's go Happy,"

Happy nodded and flew with Erza "Erza, is Natsu going to be okay,"

"I don't know Happy, I've never seen him like that before," Erza responded."Natsu is strong, I'm sure he'll come around, I guarantee it," she smiled.

Happy smiled "Yeah your right,"

Makarov stood tall as he oversaw the candidates who passed the first round of the S-Class.

"All of you have done well to get past the first stage," Makarov said. "I will now announce the results,"

"Cana and Lucy had defeated team Freed and Bickslow, well-done Ladies,"

"WHAT! NO WAY" Gray shouted in shock.

"Levy and Gajeel took the peaceful route, weren't you two lucky,"

Levy smiled and gave a peace sign.

Gajeel grew a tick mark "Well I think it's sucky," he shouted.

"Gray and Loke defeated Mest and Wendy, well done," Makarov said.

Gray scoffed "Did Juvia pass?"

"OOH," Makarov shouted.

"What Gramps," Gray shouted, seeing Makarov's reaction.

"Sadly, luck was not on Juvia's and Lisanna's side, they faced someone who doesn't know the meaning of holding back," Makarov shouted.

"Wait you don't mean," Gray stuttered.

"Well I should've guessed the person who faces him will lose," Levy signed.

"So you girls want to keep going," Gildarts smirked.

"No, we surrender," Juvia and Lisanna groaned.

"Then that leaves Natsu and Happy, and Elfman and Evergreen," Lucy said and Cana nodded.

Makarov signed "Unfortunately Natsu couldn't get pass Erza and has failed,"

"Natsu fought against Erza," Lucy said shocked.

"And he lost," Cana said shocked as well.

"Well it is Erza after all," Levy said.

Gajeel scoffed "I've could've taken her,"

"Natsu lost to Erza again, you have to feel bad for the guy," Gray said.

"No, Natsu failed for a different reason not because he lost," Makarov said solemnly.

The others all blinked in surprise at what he said.

"Eh, you mean he beat Erza and failed for a different reason," Levy said shocked.

"What exactly happened," Cana asked.

"That is something that you will learn later, for now, we must continue," Makarov told them.

The others were shocked as Makarov refused to tell them what happened with Natsu and Erza, but they nodded figuring they could ask them themselves.

"So that leaves Elfman and Evergreen right," Lucy asked.

"Well by the process of elimination that leaves," Cana and Lucy then both got scared. "Mirajane,"

"Kind of sucks to be them," Levy shivered.

Gajeel scoffed "I could've beaten her not those two,"

"Wait just a minute," Elfman and Evergreen walked in "We beat Nee-chan,"

Everyone went wide-eyed in shock.

"WHAT! HOW!"

But Elfman and Evergreen grew embarrassed looks.

"I can't say as a man," Elfman groaned.

"Let's just say we took advantage of a distraction," Evergreen answered.

"What the hell happened," Lucy wondered.

Makarov coughed "Well now that all those who passed are here, we can move on to phase two of the exam, for this next part will be a race, on this island is the grave of our founder and first master Mavis Vermillion your task is to find it and whoever finds it first will be S-Class,"

"That is, it sounds simple enough," Gray said.

"You have 6 hours to find the grave, good luck children," Makarov walked away.

"Alright Lucy, let's go," Cana said, and Lucy nodded and the two went off in the forest.

The other groups did the same, all going in separate directions in order to find the grave.

Elsewhere on the island, Wendy was still crying over her failure to help Mest defeat Gray and Loke.

"Hey how long are you going to stay like that," Mest smiled.

"Because, because," Wendy cried.

"Hey do you why Tenrou is Fairy Tail's holy ground," Mest asked,

Wendy wiped her tears "Well its because First Master's grave is here right,"

"Well yeah but there is something else, this island is protected by a powerful magical barrier preventing it from being detected unless you're a Fairy Tail member," Mest told her. "And that's because something other than Mavis' grave is here,"

"Eh, really," Wendy said surprised.

"There is something else on this island, a big secret Fairy Tail is hiding," Mest said.

"What do you think it is," Wendy asked.

"Don't know" Mest stood up "Well you want to explore,"

Wendy smiled brightly and nodded excitedly.

Whilst elsewhere on the other Exceeds, Pantherlilly, and Carla arrived in order to continue their investigation on the mysterious Mest.

Natsu was still slumping against a tree, thinking about the events before the S-Class trials.

"Staying in this guild will keep you weak,"

"Join Orochimaru-sama, and become more powerful than you can possibly imagine,"

"Erza, how do you always manage to surpass me," Natsu clenched his fist."What the hell have I been doing at this point,"

It was then Natsu then felt himself get binned to the tree. "What the hell," Natsu struggled to get out of the constraints.

Natsu looked up at the person who bound him and his eyes narrowed. "Makarov,"

…

Camp

"Eh, that really happened," Mira said shocked.

Erza nodded "Yes, Master disqualified Natsu for nearly going too far in our fight,"

"I'd never thought he would do something like that," Lisanna said. "It's too out of character for him,"

"You don't think it has something to do with the Curse Mark and Sharingan do you," Mira asked.

Erza shook her head "I don't know when we fought it seems he showed great skill with the Sharingan, but the way he was fighting was different, Natsu was always an aggressive fighter usually fighting till the opponent is knocked out, but this time it felt like he was trying to kill me,"

Happy nodded "Yeah, Natsu never fights like that towards his friends,"

"Do you really think he's going to be okay Erza," Lisanna asked?

Erza shook her head "I don't know,"

…

"What hell is this, old man," Natsu said as he struggled in his binds.

"You're not one to stay and listen to a lecture, this is the best way for me to do this," Makarov told him.

Natsu glared "Lecture me on what? Going too far in a fight,"

"No, not that, something else entirely," Makarov said. "Revenge,"

Natsu was shocked "What the hell do you know about revenge,"

"I've seen plenty of people like you in my time Natsu, those who strived to take revenge on those who wronged them," Makarov said. "Forget about killing your brother,"

Natsu's shock grew at this "What? You know?"

Makarov nodded solemnly "Yes, I knew that your brother is the dark wizard Zeref, and was the one who killed your family before you met Igneel,"

"How do you know this?" Natsu questioned.

"When we first met," Makarov answered.

"Eh," Natsu said.

"When I first met you, there was so much hatred in your eyes," Makarov said. "That is when I looked into your memories and saw the tragedy you have been through, I believed no child should remember such things that's why I locked those memories away,"

"You erased my memories," Natsu said. "Why didn't you tell me,"

"I'm sorry my boy, I thought it was for the best, no child should carry such hatred in their heart," Makarov said sadly. "I saw the Sharingan in your eyes filled with hatred and darkness I feared for your future, so I had your memories sealed and the Sharingan never awakened again after that, and when that happened you became a happy and strong-willed child I was elated that those feelings within you were gone,"

Natsu said nothing and looked depressed.

"I know erasing your memories was not a call I should have made, but what I did, I had your best interest at heart. I wanted you to grow up a strong and happy child not a child who dedicated his whole life to revenge and I know for sure Igneel wanted the same thing for you," Makarov told him.

"Natsu I know you are upset with what I told you but cast away your feelings of revenge towards your brother, you have friends who care and love you. I know they don't want to see you go down that path," Makarov released Natsu. "I am truly sorry my boy, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me, and if you so wish you can leave the island, and we can finish our talk then," Makarov then walked away leaving Natsu alone.

Natsu carried a sad and depressed look on his face, all he did was stare at the ground. He didn't know what to feel Makarov, the man who he saw as a parent, the one who took him in and raised him after Igneel left, had lied to him for most of his life.

Elsewhere on an airship of Grimoire Heart.

"We are nearing Tenrou island Master Hades," Ultear said.

Hades nodded and stroked his beard "So the time has finally come, the day Zeref will be resurrected"

Ultear and the other 7 Kins of Purgatory gathered on the bridge.

"But there is one problem, the island is home to Fairy Tail, the guild who beat Oracion Seis, one of the Balam Alliance," Ultear said. "Some of their most powerful members on the island,"

"What, those guys are nothing but trash," the blonde man of the group said, and he ignited himself in black flames laughing maniacally. "I'll turn them all into ash,"

"As always you're annoying, Zancrow," Ultear groaned.

It was then a goat-man spoke "I have waited for this day,"

The glasses man push up his spectacles "I agree Capricorn" the man then started to act a bit more flamboyant "Let's let loose our desires, This will be an all-out war between our guilds lets shudder shards of ourselves,"

The large one of the group spoke so fast and apparently agreeing with the glasses man.

"You're talking too fast fatso," Zancrow shouted.

"I will explain what Hikaru said, I feel the same way, along those lines,"The youngest of the group, a girl with pink hair said sternly.

Hikaru smiled and gave a thumbs up.

"And Rustyrose said, desire is what you want, and shard means heart," she continued.

"Meredy, are you good to fight," Ultear asked the young girl.

"I will fight," Meredy nodded.

"My my, aren't you all excited," Orochimaru walked in.

Hades looked at the man "Orochimaru,"

"What the hell are you doing out of your lab, you going to have some fun too," Zancrow smirked.

"No, I will stay here and continue my work," Orochimaru smirked "Besides I expect a guest once we arrive,"

"The one in Fairy Tail you had your eyes on," Hades asked.

Orochimaru nodded "Why, yes. I expect he'll be seeing me very soon,"

"Don't know why, you're interested in a guy like that but why the hell should I care," Zancrow groaned.

"Still he's shown himself to be quite strong, surviving Orochimaru's curse mark," Meredy said.

"You are right, Meredy-san, but his hidden power is far more beyond that," Orochimaru said.

Hades stood up from his throne "Things are getting rather interesting, Fairy Tail does not know the meaning of darkness. The ultimate darkness that lies in the deepest depth, Grimoire Heart, the heart of the devil itself, tonight we devils will have a sport with fairies," Hades evilly smirked. "Will we devour them or turned them into dust, the battle is near Fairy Tail,"

Orochimaru smirked "Now Natsu-kun, I hope you came to your final decision,"

Makarov was meditating in front of Mavis' grave, he opened his eyes "What is this feeling,"

Elsewhere on the island Lucy and Cana were discussing where Mavis' grave is located unknown to them Gray and Loke were eavesdropping.

"I think the word grave holds a clue on where to go," Lucy shared her thoughts.

"The words?" Cana raised an eyebrow.

"It is supposed to be a place, but can also mean the final stop of life," Lucy said.

"Wow, that's dark," Cana said.

After some more discussion, a lightbulb went off in Lucy's head "Wait I got it,"

"Eh, really," Cana smiled.

Lucy nodded "Come on let's go," the two then ran off "I bet Levy-chan solved it too,"

Gray and Loke then emerged from their hiding spots.

Loke smirked "As expected of Lucy, my love,"

Gray smiled "Sorry Lucy, Cana, but the test isn't just about brainpower but how much you want it,"

"Just like romance," Loke smirked.

"Let's go after them," Gray ran and Loke nodded.

Elsewhere Gajeel and Levy were having trouble on where to go, well Levy was trying to figure it out, while Gajeel just hit everything that moved.

"Damn it, where is that damn grave," Gajeel shouted."I only came here to fight Salamander or Erza, but then I found out Salamander failed, and I'm stuck looking for some dead person's resting place,"

Levy groaned "Hey, you're supposed to help me become S-class remember," she shouted.

"I didn't say that," Gajeel told her.

"But all you do is fight everything, you don't care what happens to me," Levy told him.

"Huh," Gajeel responded, he then smirked and started to teasingly pat her head "Aw, ain't that sweet, you want my attention shorty, then you better become big and strong to face me,"

Levy started to shake in frustration "I'm weak, that's just how it is, I'm small,"

Gajeel signed "Hey you have better things to do than get depressed over.."

But Gajeel didn't get to finish his sentence as Levy hit him in the face with her bag. "What the hell," Gajeel fell.

"Gajeel, you idiot," Levy ran off.

"What the hell is wrong with him," Levy thought, "I thought he was actually a good guy, he's such a jerk, I hate him," Levy then started to feel herself cry and she started to have feelings to go back. It was then she heard some rustling bushes and she wiped her tears, "Gajeel,"

But to her shock out of the bushes jumped out a chicken man and a samurai dog, and they cut off her headband.

It"What the, who are you," Levy shouted, but she was then grabbed by the arms by the chicken man who was laughing.

"We'll take this one out first," the samurai dog smirked and he brought up his sword.

Levy grew a scared look "No, please,"

The dog man brought down his sword but it was then Gajeel came out of nowhere and blocked it, and he then kicked the chicken man away from Levy.

"Don't run off like that, its hard to find someone so small," Gajeel told her.

Levy wiped her tears and smiled happy Gajeel came back for her "Yeah sorry,"

"Just stay behind me, I'll protect you," Gajeel said and Levy nodded "so who are these losers,"

Levy shook her head "I don't know," she then noticed their guild marks "That mark its Grimoire Heart, the strongest of dark guilds,"

"So the old man got a dark guild here," Gajeel asked.

"No, he will never do something like that," Levy said. "They must have broke in somehow"

Gajeel smirked "well it doesn't matter anyway, you have to expect the unexpected when you're S-class and if you can't get rid of an accident like this then you can't be allowed to call yourself S-Class,"

"But why are mages from Grimoire Heart here," Levy questioned. "They shouldn't just attack us on their own,"

Samurai dog laughed "that's the problem with you, official guilds"

"There are no rules when it comes to war," the chicken laughed.

"War?" Gajeel raised an eyebrow.

"What do you want" Levy shouted.

Samurai dog smirked "we are Grimoire Heart, I'm Yomazu,"

"And I'm Kawazu," the chicken said.

"Yomazu and Kawazu" Gajeel said

Yomazu then started to swing his word "and we are here to.."

It was then he created a character with his blade unleashing a powerful sonic attack.

Both Gajeel and Levy covered their ears.

"My ears," Levy shouted.

"To hunt down fairies" Yomazu declared

Natsu was still sitting slumped against a tree thinking about the revelation he was just dealt by Makarov.

"It's rather poetic don't you think to be lied to by the people you trusted and loved most once again," a voice said.

Natsu stood up and turned "Who the hell is that,"

A man in black walked out of the forest and smiled "It's been a while, you've gotten bigger,"

Natsu's eyes widened in shock at who he was facing.

"Natsu," the man smiled.

"Zeref Dragneel,"
