Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 35 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. Thank you to those who have stayed with this story and have reviewed. It really does mean a lot to me that you guys are liking it. I promise that soon enough we will be in a chapter that doesn't follow the movies. There might be a few call backs to the movies but it won't deal with them not fully. I can't really reveal too much more than that. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it once we get there. Oh and while I'm at it planning a bit ahead since pretty soon we will be upon Captain America Civil War. Which side do you think Everleigh should be on? Iron Man's side or Captain America's side. Enough of my ramblings without further ado Chapter 35. ENJOY!
Chapter 35
Steve held Everleigh up as they made their way up a set of stairs leading to a house. He brought his hand up and knocked on the door.
Sam opened the door seeing Steve, Natasha and Everleigh standing there looking a bit worse for wear. He blinked a few times before saying anything. "Hey, man."
"I'm sorry about this. We need a place to lay low." Steve said softly as he continued to hold up the shaky Everleigh on her feet. He knew that he had accidentally hurt her and he hadn't meant to.
"Everyone we know is trying to kill us."
Sam looked at the three of them for a moment before giving them a reply that they were hoping to hear. "Not everyone." Sam said moving out of the way.
Steve carefully put Everleigh down in one of the chairs before going to get cleaned up somewhat.
Everleigh looked up at Sam. "Can I have your first aid kit?" She asked softly.
Sam nodded his head. "I'll go and get it for you. You look like you were tossed around like a rag doll."
Everleigh let out a weak laugh. "I can thank Steve for that." She said, shaking her head lightly. "Didn't have a chance to do anything before we were tossed in a hole to be hidden from a blast."
"I am sorry." Steve called out from the bathroom.
"Still doesn't mean I forgive you Rogers." Everleigh called out to the super soldier knowing that he had felt bad hurting her.
Sam came back over to Everleigh with his first aid kit placing it down in front of her. "You're not going to give him a hard time about it?"
Everleigh let out a soft laugh and shook her head lightly. "I know he didn't mean it. But it would have been a bit better if we just jumped into the hole and I used my powers…"
"The witchy power that you have." Sam mused as he crossed his arms looking at her.
Everleigh looked up at Sam and nodded her head lightly. She let out a soft breath as she turned her head hearing Steve talking to Natasha.
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"What's going on?"
"When I first joined SHIELD, I thought I was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA. I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but...I guess I can't tell the difference anymore."
"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business."
Everleigh let out a soft scoff and shook her head lightly as she tended to her wounds that she had gotten.
Sam walked past Everleigh and headed to the room where Natasha and Steve were talking to one another. "I made breakfast. If you guys...eat that sort of thing."
CAWSCAWS
They sat in Sam's kitchen talking to one another about everything.
"So, the question is: who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?" Natasha said, letting out a soft breath.
"Pierce." Steve said, crossing his arms.
"Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world."
"But he's not working alone, Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star."
"So was Jasper Sitwell."
"So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?"
Everleigh let out a breath.
"The answer is: you don't." Sam said before dropping a file in front of Steve.
"What's this?" Steve questioned looking up at Sam.
"Call it a resume."
Natasha picked up the photo of Sam with his pararescue team. "Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you. You didn't say he was a pararescue."
Everleigh took the photo up and blinked a few times. "I've heard about this…"
Steve looked at the photo. "Is this Riley?"
"Yeah."
"I heard they couldn't bring in the choppers because of the RPGs. What did you use, a stealth chute?" Natasha questioned.
"No. These." Sam said before handing Steve the file.
Steve opened it and blinked a few times, his brows furrowing together. "I thought you said you were a pilot."
"I never said pilot." Sam said, looking over at Steve.
"I can't ask you to do this, Sam. You got out for a good reason."
"Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in."
"Where can we get our hands on one of these things?"
"The last one is at Fort Meade, behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall."
Steve looked at Natasha who shrugged her shoulders. "Shouldn't be a problem." He threw the file down on the table.
Everleigh let out a soft breath. "We can't just bring anyone in on this." Everleigh pointed out to Steve.
"Do you have an idea to work with?" He questioned his brows furrowed.
"Steve, you're asking the wrong questions. Do I have an idea, yes. But you know it's crazy." Everleigh mused softly. "To have someone come in." She shook her head lightly. "We can't have Shield or Hydra knowing what we're doing."
"So your idea is?"
Everleigh let out a breath rolling her eyes before she vanished in front of them.
Sam jumped back rather surprised. "What the hell was that?! Where did she go?"
Everleigh reappeared still sitting in her seat. "I can easily get in. It won't be a problem to get the wings back."
