Chapter 36

Steve threw Sitwell across the rooftop with Natasha and Everleigh coming towards him. "Tell me about Zola's algorithm."

"Never heard of it." Jasper said, shaking his head.

"What were you doing on the Lemurian Star?"

"I was throwing up, I get seasick."

Everleigh scoffed, rolling her eyes. She used her magic and Jasper went up into the air.

Jasper looked at Everleigh and smiled at her which was a creepy smile. "Is this little display meant to insinuate that you're gonna throw me off the roof? Because it's really not your style, Agent Vincin."

Everleigh smirked lightly. "You know nothing of me Agent Sitwell. But you're right. It's really not my style. It's more of Nat's." She gestured to the redhead that was next to her.

Natasha kicked Jasper right off of the roof causing him to plummet down, screaming. "Oh, wait. What about that girl from accounting, Laura...?" Natasha questioned looking over at Steve.

Everleigh let out a soft chuckle shaking her head lightly.

"Lillian. Lip piercing, right?"

"Yeah, she's cute."

"Yeah, I'm not ready for that."

Sam flies up with the jet pack that Everleigh had stolen for him. He held Sitwell in his arms before throwing him down onto the roof again.

Steve, Natasha and Everleigh walked towards Jasper and he held up his hand in fear.

"Zola's algorithm is a program...for choosing Insight's targets!"

"What targets?"

"You! A TV anchor in Cairo, the Undersecretary of Defense, a high school valedictorian in Iowa city. Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, anyone who's a threat to HYDRA! Now, or in the future."

"The Future? How could it know?"

Jasper laughed. "How could it not? The 21st century is a digital book. Zola taught HYDRA how to read it."

The three of them looked at Jasper in confusion.

"Your bank records, medical histories, voting patterns, e-mails, phone calls, your damn SAT scores. Zola's algorithm evaluates people's past to predict their future."

"And what then?"

"Oh, my God. Pierce is gonna kill me."

"What then?!"

"Then the Insight Helicarriers scratch people off the list. A few million at a time."

Everleigh's eyes went wide. She had been part of that under the power of Director Fury and she had no idea of what had happened.

CAWSCAWS

Sam drove them towards Triskelion.

"HYDRA doesn't like leaks." Jasper said softly shifting around nervously in his seat.

"So why don't you try sticking a cork in it." Sam snapped in frustration.

"Insight's launching in sixteen hours, we're cutting it a little bit close here." Natasha explained to them knowing that this was rather worrisome.

"I know. We'll use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the Helicarriers directly." Steve said softly.

"Hopefully we won't be too late with it then, yeah?" Everleigh questioned looking up at Steve.

"What?! Are you crazy? That is a terrible, terrible idea-"

Suddenly the Winter soldier landed on the car roof and pulled Jasper through the window and threw him into oncoming traffic killing him.

"Oh you got to be fucking kidding me." Everleigh said, looking up, seeing the indentations of where the feet of the winter soldier had landed.

The winter soldier then began to shoot at them until Steve pulled the brake handle making the winter soldier drop down onto the street as another car smashed into their car and pushed them along. The winter soldier jumped back onto their car, smashing through the windshield and pulled out the steering wheel.

"Shit!" Sam said with wide eyes.

Natasha began to shoot at him but he moved onto the vehicle behind them.

As their car was being pulled off the road Steve held onto the car door. "Hang on!" He suddenly broke open the door holding onto Natasha, Sam, and Everleigh and they slid on the car door through the streets.

The Winter Soldier and Hydra agents began shooting at them.

Steve, Natasha, Sam, and Everleigh scattered running off into the different directions.

Everleigh panted softly as she took cover behind a car. She poked her head up to see the Winter Soldier following very closely to Natasha firing his gun at her. Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat as she watched Natasha shot him in the eye goggle mask before running off. "Oh Natasha, probably not the smartest idea." She muttered softly before hearing gun fire close to her. "Oh you gotta be shitting me." She brought her hands up bringing up a blue shield and began moving away from the gun fire. The bullets bounced off her shield as she rushed to find the others.

Everleigh turned her head sharply when hearing a bomb explode. Her eyes widened when she saw Natasha jumping onto the Winter Soldier's back and trying to strangle him. She watched in horror as Natasha was thrown off his back and attempted to shoot her before getting an electric shock down his metal arm. "Natasha!" Everleigh hollered at her friend. "Innocents!"

Natasha firmly nodded her head seeing the civilians that Everleigh was talking about. "GET OUT OF THE WAY! STAY OUT OF THE WAY!"

Everleigh let out a gasp when she heard a shot being fired and she saw Natasha fall to the ground.

Everleigh quickly moved towards Natasha as Steve blocked the punch that the Winter Soldier was aiming at Natasha. Everleigh made it towards Natasha and put her magical barrier around them. Everleigh's hands shook lightly as she went to touch Natasha's shoulder where she had been shot.

Natasha let out a gasp of agony.

"I'm sorry." Everleigh said with a soft sniffle causing the red head to look up at her.

Natasha's eyes widened slightly seeing Everleigh's eyes glistening with unshed tears and her hands shaking.

Everleigh shakily put her hands on the bullet wound. "Shit… We'll get you out of here." She promised her softly.

Suddenly Natasha moved away from Everleigh to cause the younger woman to gasp as she moved. Natasha then used a grenade launcher that the Winter Soldier had dropped.

Everleigh looked up as they were surrounded by Hydra agents who were led by Brock Rumlow. Everleigh gripped her hands tightly at her sides. How on earth did they get into such a predicament?

"Drop the shield, Cap! On your knees! Get on your knees! Now! Get down! Get down!"

Steve lowered the shield and held his hands up in the air.

"Get on your knees! Down!" Rumlow said before he kicked Steve's leg and made him kneel. "Don't move." Brock looked at the helicopter flying above them and warned Rollins who was holding Steve at gunpoint. "Put the gun down. Not here. Not here!"

Rollins lowered his gun and the Hydra agents then took Steve, Sam, Everleigh, and Natasha into custody.
