I do apologize if the chapters as of late have been short. I'm trying to still find a happy medium with the whole thing. This is the final chapter of Captain America Winter Soldier. Without further ado Chapter 40. ENJOY!

Chapter 40

Everleigh took a tired breath as she decided to take a walk through the town that she was beginning to hate and wanting to return to her home in Pennsylvania that was rather secluded so she didn't have to worry about neighbors. She knew that Steve was going to be soon let out of the hospital after almost drowning in the potomac.

No matter how many Sam begged her to come and see Steve, she refused because she didn't want to be the third wheel. She just wanted some time to herself to figure out what she was going to do now since Shield was now defunct and no longer in operations due to Hydra easily slipping into the grasps of Shield and ruining everything that she loved about it.

She even avoided Natasha's pleas of coming with her to the committee hearing that she would be going to. Everleigh didn't see the point in joining the committee hearing that would make things worse for her unlike it would for Natasha. She knew Natasha liked things that were hard, but the truth needed to be brought out no matter what.

She took a breath as she continued to walk, sticking her hands in her pockets as she walked towards the graveyard. She saw that Steve was with Sam at Fury's grave. She heard footsteps and she turned her head to see Fury, in sunglasses and a hoodie.

"So, you've experienced this sort of thing before?" Fury questioned looking over at Steve.

"You get used to it."

"We've been data-mining HYDRA's files. Looks like a lot of rats didn't go down with the ship. I'm headed to Europe tonight, wanted to ask if you'd come."

"There's something I gotta do first."

"How about you, Wilson? Could use a man with your abilities." Fury said, looking at Sam.

"I'm more of a soldier than a spy."

"Alright then."

Sam and Steve both shook his hand.

"What about you agent?" Fury asked, looking at Everleigh.

Everleigh looked up at her former boss. "Sorry… I think I'm going to lay low for a while."

Fury nodded his head. "Anybody asks for me, tell them they can find me right here." He said looking at his gravestone before walking away.

Natasha came over to Everleigh, Sam, and Steve. "You should be honored, that's about as close as he gets to saying thank you."

"Not going with him?" Steve questioned as he looked over at the Black Widow.

"No."

"Not staying here?"

"I blew all my covers, I gotta go figure out a new one."

"That might take a while."

"I'm counting on it. That thing you asked for, I called in a few favors from Kiev." She handed Steve a file. "Will you do me a favor? Call that nurse."

"She's not a nurse." Steve said as he held the file close to him.

"And you're not a SHIELD agent."

"What was her name again?"

"Sharon. She's nice." Natasha kisses Steve on his cheek and turns to leave. "Be careful, Steve. You might not want to pull on that thread." She said walking away.

Steve slowly opened the file, seeing that it was about Bucky and the information regarding his Winter Soldier transformation.

Sam walked over to Steve. "You're going after him?"

"You don't have to come with me."

"I know. When do we start?"

Everleigh let out a soft breath.

Steve looked over at Everleigh. "You're leaving…"

"Yes, I doubt that you need someone as fairly freaky as me helping you with your buddy."

Steve put his hand on her shoulder before giving it a light squeeze. "We could've used you."

Everleigh let out a soft laugh. "I know, but no. It's best that I lay low for a while." She admitted softly. "With Shield gone now, I need to find where I belong."

Steve nodded his head slowly knowing exactly what she had meant. "The Avengers will always need you."

Everleigh gave him a small smile. "Because I helped you and everyone with the whole bringing the Chitari down… I know I have a place with the team, but I need to find myself since Shield was supposed to be a home for me and it was a lie."

Steve nodded his head again knowing that she was trying to find her own path. "Be careful out there."

"And you be careful. Don't pull that cord too hard Steve… he's unbalanced with everything that Hydra did to him. He won't be the same." She said slowly turning on her heel. "Just treat him well." She slowly walked away from Steve and Sam.

"It'll be strange without her." Sam admitted as he looked at Steve.

"She's going through things that she doesn't want anyone to know." Steve said softly. "Whatever it was it changed her."

"You think it was something bad?"

"I honestly don't know." Steve admitted softly. "She was always good at her job and happy go lucky… this time… not so much. It kind of hurts that she's not trusting me… or any of our friends."

"Perhaps it was something that broke her… she'll tell you in time, Steve…"

I think I'm going to try to add more OG chapters occasionally perhaps. I'm not fully sure just yet. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. Also what do you guys think of this idea of having some of the Marvel TV shows in this story as well. I know it might not be the wisest thing to do, but it is an idea of course. I'm planning on doing a side story with Loki due to it dealing with Loki being in another timeline. Reviews keep me going. I'm going to try my best to update as much as I can.
