Chapter 47

Clint landed the Quinjet outside of a large farmhouse.

They all got out of the jet and slowly walked towards the house.

"What is this place?" Thor questioned as they walked closer and closer to the house.

"A safe house?" Steve questioned his brows furrowed together.

"Let's hope." Clint said as they entered the house. "Honey, I'm home."

Laura, his wife, was heavily pregnant, walked out of the kitchen into the hallway.

"Hi. Company. Sorry I didn't call ahead." Clint said rather sheepishly. He could only hope that his wife wouldn't get mad at him.

"Hey." Laura said softly kissing her husband.

"This is an agent of some kind." Tony whispered to Thor.

"Gentleman, this is Laura." Clint said introducing the team to his wife.

"I know all your names." Laura admitted softly.

The men looked at her awkwardly unsure of what to really do.

"Ooh, incoming."

Cooper and Lila ran into the hall.

Everleigh let out a soft chuckle.

"Dad!" Lila said as Clint picked her up.

"Hi, sweetheart!" Clint kissed the top of his son's head. "Hey, buddy! How you guys doing? Ooh…"

"These are...smaller agents." Tony muttered to the men.

Everleigh covered her mouth softly, keeping herself from laughing.

"Look at your face! Oh, my goodness!"

"Did you bring Auntie Nat and Auntie Leigh?"

"Why don't you hug us and find out?" Natasha said with a smile.

Lila rushed towards Natasha who easily picked her up.

"Sorry for barging in on you." Steve said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Yeah, we would have called ahead, but we were busy having no idea that you existed." Tony said, crossing his arms looking at the family.

"Yeah, well Fury helped me set this up when I joined. He kept it off SHIELD's files, I'd like to keep it that way. I figure it's a good place to lay low." Clint explained knowing he needed to tell the truth.

"Honey. Ah, I missed you." Laura said softly.

Natasha touched Laura's stomach. "How's little Natasha, huh?"

"She's…Nathaniel."

Natasha bent down towards Laura's stomach. "Traitor."

Everleigh let out a soft chuckle as she watched Natasha interact with Laura. She didn't want to admit that she missed things like this, but it was something that tugged at the heartstrings and it kinda made her wish for this life that Clint had, but no one would want her weirdness and she knew that.

Steve looked over at Thor, his brows furrowing in concern. "Thor."

"I saw something in that dream. I need answers, I won't find them here." He said as he left the inside of the house before using his hammer to fly away.

Everleigh came up behind Steve. "He saw something in the dream?"

Steve turned and faced her before nodding his head.

"I'm so sorry that I didn't know she was able to do something like that." She admitted softly.

"It's not your fault Leigh. You couldn't have known what her abilities were."

Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded her head. She saw the look on his face. "You look like you need to think."

Steve took a breath. "Perhaps, but it's alright you don't have to leave me."

Everleigh's brows furrowed. "You're thinking of her… Peggy."

Steve nodded his head softly. "How did you know?"

"It's not that hard to tell Steve. You were in love with her and I suspect you always will."

"You sound like you know what I'm thinking about."

Everleigh shrugged her shoulders. "Perhaps." She said softly as she wrapped her arms around herself.

"You want to talk?"

Everleigh shook her head.

"Whoever you love, Leigh, you should tell them, don't wait like I did."

Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat wondering if she really should admit her feelings.

Steve looked at her, seeing the look on her face. He slowly turned and walked from the house leaving Everleigh to think.

Everleigh took a soft breath knowing that she wouldn't be able to admit her own feelings when she didn't know what her feelings meant.
