It really does mean a lot to me that you guys are enjoying this. I'm going to continue to try my best with writing this story out since I do have a lot of thinking to do for future chapters. I am still fully planned up to Chapter 113. It's going to take me a while to get there. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 49. ENJOY!
Chapter 49
Everleigh and Steve landed on the roof of the U-Gin Genetic Research Lab roof.
"Two minutes. Stay close." Steve told Natasha and Clint.
Everleigh blinked a few times not feeling anything out of the ordinary. She followed Steve down into the lab only to gasp in shock seeing Dr. Cho was wounded.
"He's uploading himself into the body." Dr. Cho told the two of them as she tried to sit up.
Everleigh moved quickly to her side and helped her sit up.
"Where?" Steve asked the woman softly hoping that they would have somewhere to go to stop Ultron.
"The real power is inside the Cradle. The gem, its power is uncontainable. You can't just blow it up. You have to get the Cradle to Stark."
"First I have to find it."
"Go."
Steve took a breath before going onto the coms. "Did you guys copy that?"
"We did." Clint replied knowing what they had to do.
"I got a private jet taking off across town, no manifest. That could be him." Natasha explained.
"There. It's a truck from the lab. Right above you, Cap. On the loop by the bridge. It's them. I got three with the Cradle, one in the cab. I could take out the driver."
"Negative! If that truck crashes, the gem could level the city. We need to draw out Ultron." Steve said as he jumped onto the roof of the truck followed by Everleigh.
"Watch out!" Everleigh said as she looked at Steve.
Steve tried to enter the back doors of the truck only to have them blasted off by Ultron. "Well, he's definitely unhappy! I'm gonna try and keep him that way."
"You're not a match for him, Cap." Clint called out.
"Thanks, Barton."
"What am I Clint, chopped liver? He has a better chance with me." Everleigh complained as Steve tried to get Ultron away from the cradle.
Ultron unplugged himself from the cradle and blasted Steve back.
Everleigh used her powers to keep him from smashing into another car as Steve continued to try and get into the truck.
With some maneuvering Steve managed to get onto the truck roof.
Everleigh looked at Steve and gave him a smile.
Ultron came up onto the roof. "You know what's in that Cradle? The power to make real change, and that terrifies you."
"I wouldn't call it a comfort." Steve said as he tried to fight with Ultron.
"Stop it!"
Steve's shield got caught in his chest and he smacked it away and fired at Steve.
"We got a window. Four, three… give 'em hell." Clint said over the com to Natasha.
Everleigh vanished and put a shield up, occasionally stopping Ultron from hurting Steve. She looked up to see Natasha dropping out of the Quinjet on a bike and rode towards the truck.
"I'm always picking up after you boys."
"They're heading under the overpass, I've got no shot."
"Which way?"
"Hard right... Now."
Natasha headed over to the truck. She threw Steve's shield back to him and he used it to knock Ultron away. "Out of the way, coming through! Sorry, coming through!" She shouted as she made her way through the pedestrians that were watching on.
Steve continued to battle Ultron and blocked as much as he could. "Come on!"
"Clint, can you draw out the guards?" Nat questioned.
"Let's find out."
"You might want to hurry that up." Everleigh called out on her com trying her best to make her way into the truck to get to the cradle to help Natasha who was on her way.
"Beep beep!"
Clint was able to draw the drones from the truck. "Heading back towards you. So whatever you're gonna do, do it now."
"I'm going in. Cap, can you keep him occupied?" Natasha questioned the soldier who was still busy fighting Ultron.
"What do you think I've been doing?"
Everleigh quickly followed Natasha in becoming visible again. She panted softly looking at Natasha.
Suddenly the truck was becoming airborne.
"Oh you got to be fucking kidding me." Everleigh said as she tried to remain balanced.
"The package is airborne. I have a clean shot." Clint called out over the com.
"Negative. I am still in the truck with Leigh."
"What the hell are you...?"
"Just be ready, I'm sending the package to you."
"How do you want me to take it?"
"Uhh, you might wish you hadn't asked that."
"Whatever we do we need to do it quickly." Everleigh said as she quickly helped Natasha with the wires moving it closer to the open backdoor of the truck.
"I lost him! He's headed your way!" Steve said over the com.
"Nat, Leigh, we gotta go."
"Get on." Natasha ordered Everleigh.
Everleigh got onto the top of the cradle. "I hope you're right about what you're going to do."
Natasha pushed the cradle out of the truck and onto the quinjet. But her foot was caught by Ultron stopping her from being with Everleigh.
Everleigh looked shocked as she landed in the Quinjet with the cradle.
"Nat! Cap, you see Nat?"
"If you have the package, get it to Stark! Go!"
"Do you have eyes on Nat?"
"Go!"
"Clint, we have to go. We have to just trust her." Everleigh said coming up to him, her hair tousled from flying in the wind.
Clint reluctantly took off with the Quinjet taking them towards the Avengers base. "I don't like this."
"You think I do?" Everleigh said, taking her spot next to him helping him fly the quinjet. "She'll be fine I'm sure of it."
Clint looked over at the young woman that sat next to him and saw the look on her face. He hoped that she was right and that Natasha was going to be alright.
