Chapter 61

Vienna

Everleigh slowly walked next to Natasha. They both were dressed to nines properly for such a meeting about the Sokovia Accords. Everleigh stopped for a moment to look out the window.

Natasha patted her friend lightly on the arm knowing that she was not having an easy time with this whole thing.

A young man dressed in a sharp suit stood, looking through a glass wall.

A UN staffer came up to Natasha. "Excuse me, Miss Romanoff?"

Natasha turned her attention to the staff member that had come up to her. "Yes?"

"These need your signature."

The young man looked over at Natasha who signed the document.

"Thank you."

"Thanks." Natasha said softly. She looked over at her friend wondering if she would reveal herself as Everleigh or if she would remain disguised and not sign the accords.

"I suppose neither of us is used to the spotlight." The young man said to Natasha.

"Oh, well, it's not always so flattering." Natasha admitted softly looking over at the young man.

"You seem to be doing alright so far. Considering your last trip to Capitol Hill . . . I wouldn't think you would be particularly comfortable in this company."

"Well, I'm not."

"That alone makes me glad you're here, Miss Romanoff."

"Why? You don't approve of all this?" Natasha questioned tilting her head to the side.

"The Accords, yes. The politics, not really. Two people in a room can get more done than a hundred."

"Unless you need to move a piano." King T'Chaka said coming up to his son.

"Father."

"Son. Miss Romanoff."

"King T'Chaka. Please, allow me to apologize for what happened in Nigeria." Natasha said softly.

"Thank you. Thank you for agreeing to all this. I'm sad to hear that Captain Rogers and Miss Vincin will not be joining us today."

Natasha took a breath and nodded her head. "Yes, so am I."

"If everyone could please be seated. This assembly is now in session." A man said over the speakers.

"That is the future calling. Such a pleasure." T'Challa nodded his head to Natasha.

"Thank you." Natasha said as she looped her arm with Everleigh leading her away from the two royals. "You could've signed it."

"I don't seen the point of signing just yet. I don't see what good comes out of it." Everleigh said softly trying to not be heard by anyone else.

"You do know that this means you have to retire."

"Retire? Not necessarily." She admitted softly as she sat down next to Natasha.

"When stolen Wakandan vibranium was used to make a terrible weapon, we in Wakanda were forced to question our legacy. Those men and women killed in Nigeria, were part of a goodwill mission from a country too long in the shadows. We will not, however, let misfortune drive us back. We will fight to improve the world we wish to join. I am grateful to the Avengers for supporting this initiative. Wakanda is proud to extend its hand in peace." King T'Chaka said to the large group of people.

"EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" T'Challa yelled, alerting everyone that something was very wrong.

Suddenly an enormous explosion went off between the buildings and destroyed the conference hall.

Everleigh slowly got up to her feet as there was debris that fell around them. She looked over to see T'Challa with his father who she could easily tell was gone.

CIVILWAR

Sharon was busy trying to get everything under control. "Call MI-6, see if we can get Micro Forensics to hurry this up. We need the whole team here in two hours or it's not worth it." She walked by Natasha who sat next to Everleigh and passed T'Challa who had cut on his head looking stunned at what had happened.

Natasha slowly looked over at T'Challa. "I'm very sorry."

T'Challa looked over at her. He held an ornate silver ring, he toyed with between his fingers. "In my culture death is not the end. It's more of a . . . stepping-off point. You reach out with both hands and Bast and Sekhmet, they lead you into the green veldt where . . . you can run forever."

"That sounds very peaceful."

"My father thought so." He put the ring onto his finger. "I am not my father."

"T'Challa. Task force will decide who brings in Barnes."

T'Challa clenched his fist. "Don't bother, Miss Romanoff. I'll kill him myself." He walked away from the two of them.

Natasha's phone began to ring. She slowly picked it up. "Yeah?"

Everleigh looked over at Natasha with a worried gaze.

"Ah, yeah, thanks. I got lucky." Natasha frowned and looked around before standing up. "I know how much Barnes means to you. I really do. Stay home. You'll only make this worse. For all of us. Please. No. Someone will. If you interfere. That's how it works now. Why?" She looked at her phone as it went dead from Steve hanging up. "Shit."

"Nat what is it?"

"Steve."

Everleigh bit her lower lip knowing that wasn't a good sign. "He wants to bring Barnes in?"

Natasha looked at her friend and nodded her head slowly.

Everleigh got up to her feet, pursing her lips together. "Is he insane? Everyone's going to have orders to shoot on sight. There will be no reason to even try to reason with anyone."

Natasha let out a breath pinching the bridge of her nose.

Everleigh looked around rather concerned. "Do you want me to try and find him?"

"Everleigh, that's dangerous for you. If they find out that you're shifting into other people it won't end well for you."

Everleigh shrugged her shoulders. "I have a feeling that it wasn't Barnes who did this."

"Why do you think that?"

"Intuition?" Everleigh said looking over at her friend. "I have to at least try to find Steve so he doesn't get hurt. And knowing Steve, Sam's also there with him."

Natasha let out a breath and nodded her head slowly.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This is the end of Chapter 61. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best with writing it. I'm way ahead in writing these chapters at the moment. As of today's date of writing this it is May 5th and it'll be quite some time before this chapter comes onto fanfiction. But I have to say that I'm proud of this chapter. Hopefully you'll think the same. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. My writing will probably be slow for a few weeks if not a month give or take due to play off hockey and of course I love me some playoff hockey. I know I haven't really revealed which side Everleigh will be on. She didn't sign the accords just yet, but will she? And if she doesn't will she retire? Will she join Captain America's team and fight against Iron Man's team? Let me know who you think she'll join. I'm excited to show future chapters of where she'll go from here. She has her own choice to make. I'll update next Monday. Until next time.
