Chapter 73
Everleigh looked around, pursing her lips together as Loki landed hard on the ground next to her.
Thor looked around blinking hoping that Doctor Strange had brought them to Odin. "Father?"
A lone figure stood at the other side of the meadow at the cliff's edge. He was dressed in humble human clothing.
The brothers approached Odin quickly.
Everleigh bit her lower lip as she slowly followed the two boys.
"Look at this place. It's beautiful." Odin said, taking a breath of the clean crisp air.
"Father, it's us." Thor said softly, trying to get him to notice them.
"My sons. I've been waiting for you."
Loki looked at Odin, surprised to hear him called son.
"I know. We've come to take you home."
"Home, yes. Your mother, she calls me. Do you hear it?"
Thor looked at Loki, who quickly brought his hands up in defense. "Loki, lift your magic."
Odin turned to Loki, who stiffened. But Odin smiled at his youngest son. "Took me quite a while to break free from your spell. Frigga would have been proud."
Loki looked at his father moved by the gesture of what was said. He looked over to see Thor staring at his anger building inside of his older brother.
Odin put his hand on Thor's shoulder calming him. "Come and sit with me. I don't have much time." Odin said as he sat down letting out a breath weakly.
Thor and Loki slowly sat down with him.
Everleigh bit her lip softly pulling herself further back knowing that this wasn't something that she should be involved in.
"I know that we failed you, but we can make this right." Thor said softly.
"I failed you. It is upon us...Ragnarok."
"No, I've stopped Ragnarok. I put an end to Surtur."
"No. It has already begun. She's coming. My life was all that held her back, but my time has come. I cannot keep her away any longer."
"Father, who are you talking about?"
"The Goddess of Death. Hela. My first born." Odin turned to Thor. "Your sister."
The news hit Thor hard.
Loki blinked in confusion not believing what he was hearing.
"What?" Thor questioned blinking shocked of what he had heard.
"Her violent appetites grew beyond my control. I couldn't stop her, so I imprisoned her. Locked her away. She draws her strength from Asgard...and once she gets there, her powers will be limitless."
"Whatever she is, we can stop her. We can face her together."
Everleigh bit her lip softly in concern. She looked away knowing that this wasn't going to be a good thing.
Odin took Thor's hand. "No we won't. I'm on a different path now. This you must face alone." Odin looked into Thor's eyes, struggling to get a breath in. "I love you my sons."
For the briefest of moments, the father and sons shared a quiet moment together.
Tears welled in Thor's eyes not believing that this would be the last moment that they would share with their father.
"Look at that."
Ethereal sunrays streamed down upon the ocean basking it in light.
"Remember this place. Home."
Suddenly a warm glow washed over Thor's face and he turned to see that his father was dissipating into stardust. His father had died.
For just a moment the two brothers separately mourned their father.
Everleigh looked up at the sky as it began to darken. Her hair blew around as the wind picked up.
Thor got up to his feet and turned to Loki, his eyes burning with rage.
Loki took a step back holding up his hands. "Brother."
Thor faced Loki, electricity crackled at his hands. "This was your doing."
Everleigh moved herself closer to Loki to stop Thor from doing anything stupid that would harm himself and Loki.
Suddenly a loud crack was heard as a black portal splitted open.
Thor slammed down his umbrella, transforming into his Asgardian armor with Mjolnir.
Loki also transformed into his armor as well.
A piercing scream cut through the air as a figure hurtled out of the portal, crashing out of the rift was none other than Hela, Thor's older sister.
Hela looked around to consider her surroundings before slowly looking up at the three people that stood before her. "So he's gone? That's a shame. I would've liked to have seen that."
A tense moment was between them as they stared each other down.
"You must be Hela. I'm Thor, son of Odin." Thor said looking at his sister hoping that she wasn't as bad as what Odin had told them.
Hela's blue eyes went to Thor looking him over. A smirk came to her lips. "Really, you don't look like him."
Loki held up his hands hoping that he would be able to diffuse the situation that was slowly beginning to grow. "Perhaps we can reach an arrangement."
"You sound like him." Hela said, looking over at the younger prince.
Loki shifted nervously not liking what he had heard.
Thor's grip tightened on Mjolnir.
"Kneel."
"Beg your pardon?"
Hela suddenly manifested a pitch black blade. "Kneel...before your Queen."
"I don't think so." Thor winded up and hurled Mjolnir at Hela. But the mighty hammer came to a cold stop, against Hela's hand. Thor looked in shock as he stretched his hand out trying to call Mjolnir back to him.
The hammer trembled in Hela's hand, like it was a game of tug of war. But the hammer remained in Hela's possession.
"It's not possible."
Loki moved Everleigh behind him.
"Loki what are you…"
"Sh." He said looking back at her.
Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat knowing that this wasn't a good path to be on.
"Darling, you have no idea what's possible." Hela shattered Mjolnir in her hand.
The blast of Mjolnir's destruction sent a wave of energy through Thor, Loki and Everleigh who braced themselves against the impact.
Thor was stunned that his hammer was gone. He looked up to see Hela running her hands over the back of her head to create a very terrifying battle headdress.
Loki panicked knowing that this wasn't a good sign. He stood up bringing Everleigh with him holding her close to him. "Bring us back!"
"No!" Thor shouted to his brother wondering what the hell he was thinking.
Hela charged at Thor, Loki, and Everleigh as the bi-frost enveloped all of them.
Thor, Loki, and Everleigh zoomed upwards, held inside the celestial beam warping them towards Asgard. Loki and Thor both looked down seeing Hela was in the bi-frost as well gaining on them.
Loki turned to throw two daggers at her. They found their mark, stalling her for a second. But she plowed right through Loki and Everleigh out of the Bi-frost and they were gone in an instant.
"Loki! Everleigh!"
