Unison Of The Turnabout - Part 1

Sometimes, we define the past.

Sometimes, the past defines us.

And sometimes, it is that past that causes the worst of human mistakes...

CRASH!

That... was no accident...

I... was drugged... with sleeping pills...

That man... murdered me in cold blood...

That's why... I killed him...

An eye for an eye...

It's only fair isn't it... Ini?

A man and a woman are sitting between the glass windows of the detention center.

"I... I'm sorry, Mr. Edgeworth. You shouldn't waste your time with someone like me.

"But I can't let you take the fall for this..."

"N-No... I have to pay for my sins..."

"But it wasn't your fault..."

"N-No... It was... I did it. I killed that person."

"But that wasn't you."

"It... doesn't matter. It may as well have been me."

Edgeworth Law Offices

At the Edgeworth Law Offices, a man 34 years of age was sitting his desk doing his paper work. This man was Miles Edgeworth, a defense attorney of a long standing, 8 years to be exact. He looks out the window, observing the heavy and rainy atmosphere. "(This rain certainly makes for a very gloomy atmoshpere... Hmph... Why am I thinking such things anyway...?)" He mused. He decided it was better to just get back to work.

"Daddy! Daddy! Come look at this!" Edgeworth turned and looked up, to see a young 14 year old in front of his desk, smiling at him.

"Yes, what is it Ema? I'm quite busy..." The young teen pouted at her father.

"You've been working for the past three hours! You need a break!" She whined.

"D-Do I now?" He said. The girl nodded enthusiastically at him.

"Course you do. Take a look at this!" She said before showing Edgeworth a newspaper. The attorney raised an eyebrow.

"A newspaper? I didn't you kids read those nowadays. I assumed you'd prefer to use the internet." Edgeworth stated. Ema puffed her cheeks.

"Hey! Are you saying because I'm not old like you, I can't enjoy a good newspaper?!" Ema pouted. Edgeworth looked surprised.

"O-Old?! I'm only 34!" Edgeworth said defensively. Ema giggled at that.

"Oh come on, Daddy. You don't have to be ashamed of your age, you know." Edgeworth sighed.

"If you say so." Edgeworth replied.

Ema Edgeworth. His daughter, and his bright little ball of sunshine. He adopted her 8 years ago after his first case. Ever since, he raised her all by himself. He felt it was his duty, after all. After her biological father disappeared, she had no other family left. He was all she had. And so he raised her the best he could. He took on more cases, albeit ones that were easier to procure an acquittal for so that he could provide for her. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll turn away from his truth. He still only takes on cases if he truly believes his client to be innocent.

But he doesn't regret any of the past 8 years. He grew to love Ema as his own daughter, and vowed to protect her at all costs. She's a bright young girl after all. She intends to become a forensic scientist when she grows up.

"I think you'll find this article really interesting! Come read it with me! Please?" She said with those pleading eyes." Edgeworth gave in and stood up from his chair.

"Very well." He said. "(I just can't say no to you, can I my sweet little angel?)" Edgeworth moved away from his desk and sat down on the couch with his daughter. She opened up the article she was so keen on showing him. "So, what about this article piqued your interest?" Ema pointed to a particular section.

"Right there!" Edgeworth looked at where she was pointing.

"Let's see here... 'Malpractice At Grey Surgical Clinic. 14 In-patients Lose Their Lives!'" He read. Edgeworth adjusted his glasses curiously. "Ah, yes... Rumours have been circulating about this 'Dr. Grey'." He commented.

"Right. And get this; the nurse caused the malpractice died a few weeks later in a car crash." Ema stated. Edgeworth nodded in response.

"I've heard of this. A year ago, all the tabloid shows were talking about it. Fourteen victims of medical malpractice, and the Nurse's mysterious fatal accident... There were rumors that Dr. Grey had intentionally caused the incident." Edgeworth said.

"Yep! And people say it was to forever hide the person responsible for the malpractice." Ema explained. Edgeworth looked the paper over some more. A police investigation was launched in this regard, but nothing ever came of it. No evidence was found to suggest that Dr. Grey had any involvement in the accident. Although, due to this, the clinic is seeing less patients. Edgeworth looked at Ema and raised an eyebrow.

"I do wonder... Why were you so insistent that I read this paper? This case is over a year old." Edgeworth questioned. Ema got a gleeful look on her face.

"Weeeell... Recently he decided to go see a spirit medium!" Ema said happily. Edgeworth was surprised by that. Spirit medium? Whatever could he want to visit one of those for? Ema, seemingly reading his mind, said... "He wants to call back the spirit of the nurse that died. He wants her to write a confession admitting to the malpractice and the car accident as her own negligence."

"Ah, I see... And how would you know about this, exactly?" Ema looked at Edgeworth with a sly smile before a voice was heard from the door.

"That would be courtesy of yours truly, Miles." Edgeworth froze. He knew that voice. Of course he did. He knew it all too well.

Edgeworth turned to the door, and who else should it be? That spiky hair, that blue suit... All too familiar.

Phoenix Wright. His brother. Also a defense attorney like him, although he's slightly more cocky about it. "Phoenix. It's been awhile." Phoenix responded with a light chuckle.

"Kind of a dull way to greet your older brother, wouldn't you say?" He replied. Edgeworth rolled his eyes, and said...

"I'm quite sure I was born before you were."

"Ah, you got me!" Phoenix laughed. Ema jumped up from the couch and wrapped Phoenix up in a hug.

"Uncle Phoenix! It's so good to see you!" She gleamed. Phoenix smiled and ruffled her hair.

"Good to see you too, Ema. How's my favourite niece?"

"She's your ONLY niece." Edgeworth commented. Phoenix gave Edgeworth a playful smack on the back.

"Yeah, yeah... I getcha." He said. "So, you heard about the whole thing with the Grey Surgical Clinic?"

Edgeworth responded, "That I did. Apparently, Dr. Grey wishes to see a spirit medium?" Phoenix nodded.

"That he does." Phoenix responded. He then began to scratch the back of his head. "So, uh... I was thinking. Maybe you'd like to come along?" Edgeworth raised an eyebrow at that, but he then felt Ema tugging at his suit.

"Can we go Daddy? Can we? Can we?" She asked with those usual pleading eyes. Edgeworth crossed his arms in thought.

"Hmm..."

"Ah, come on Miles. It's Spring Break, she's gotta do something with it right?" Phoenix gave Edgeworth a smarmy smile. "And hey! Maybe this'll be an educational experience for you too."

"I know what spirit channeling is, Phoenix." Edgeworth retorted.

Even though Miles was a man of logic and couldn't really fathom the idea of 'spirits' and 'channeling', he couldn't really deny the existence of such things.

After all... He had seen it before himself. 25 years ago, when his biological father, Gregory Edgeworth, was shot. It was in an elevator. Miles and his father were returning from a trial. They were in an elevator, and an earthquake had hit. That left him, Gregory and a bailiff by the name of Yanni Yogi trapped. Due to the depravation of oxygen, Yogi and Gregory had begun to fight, and eventually...

BANG!

Gregory was shot by Yogi. The case was investigated through and through, but the police were running out of leads. Thus, they turned to a spirit medium. Misty Fey, the Master Of The Kurain Channeling Technique. She summoned the spirit of Gregory Edgeworth and he accused Yanni Yogi of shooting him dead. Eventually, Yogi was put on trial and found guilty of murder in the second degree.

Although Miles was thankful to the Kurain Master for allowing his father's killer to be brought to justice, it didn't change the fact that he had felt that his life was over that day.

However. There was one man. One man who had stood up. One man who adopted him as his own son.

Robert Wright. He was a friend of Gregory Edgeworth. The two men were close, and so Robert felt that it was his duty to raise Miles after Gregory's death.

Miles could never thank him enough. He saw Robert Wright as his father, and likewise he saw Phoenix Wright as a little brother. He could never thank these two enough. They were the ones who encouraged him to fulfill his dream of becoming a defense attorney.

"(I suppose... This trip is just one of the ways I can pay them back.)"

March 17, 1:54PM

Kurain Village

"Amazing... So this is Kurain Village." Edgeworth commented. It was certainly a beautiful village, to be sure. Truth be told, he hadn't actually visited the village until now, mainly because of the fact that he's been so busy with work and raising Ema, he hadn't really much a reason to visit this place. But now that he's seeing it, he can't deny it's certainly a beautiful place.

"Wow, the air is so fresh... And look at all of these houses." Ema commented. She stares up at her father. "You know, I think they also call this place 'Medium Valley'!" Ema commented.

"Well, technically the public coined that name but I suppose that's right." Phoenix responded with a hand on his chin. "Well, I suppose we just wait now." Edgeworth turns to Phoenix with a raised eyebrow.

"Wait for what, exactly?" Edgeworth questioned. Phoenix gave him a warm smile.

"Not 'what' Miles... But 'who.'" Edgeworth's curious look only grew when suddenly, he heard a voice, and a very excited one at that.

"Nick! Miles!" Edgeworth turned and who he saw caught him by surprise.

Maya Fey. The Master Of The Kurain Channeling Technique. She had taken over the position after Misty Fey had passed away. Oh, and she's also Phoenix's girlfriend.

Miles had to admit, Maya had changed a lot since the last time the two had met. The two had only met a handful of times but Miles knew her well enough to see that she had definitely grown up the last time they met.

"Ms. Fey. It's been awhile." Edgeworth said, giving her a polite bow. Maya giggled at the notion.

"Oh, come on Miles! You don't have to be so formal all the time. And like I said before, just 'Maya' is fine." She replied. Edgeworth scratched the back of his head.

"Erm... Very well. I'll keep that in mind." Edgeworth said nervously. Phoenix stepped forward.

"Hey, darling. Hopefully my time away didn't kill you too much." Phoenix said. Maya rolled her eyes and placed a kiss on Phoenix's cheek.

"Oh, please. I'm not made of glass. I can take one day without you." Maya giggled. Ema squealed.

"They're so cute together, aren't they Daddy?" Ema inquired. Edgeworth adjusted his glasses.

"In a hilarious sort of way, I suppose." He stated. Phoenix turned to him with a glare.

"I heard that!" Phoenix exclaimed. Maya turned to Ema, and then rushed over to give her a big hug.

"Ema! It's so good to see you!" Maya said happily. Ema smiled and returned the hug.

"It's so good to see you, Aunt Maya!" Ema said. Maya gave Ema an affectionate pat on the head, and bent down.

"So how's life treating you? Your dad isn't making you do too much homework, is he?" She asked with a mischievous smile. Edgeworth glared at her.

"I'll have you know I'm not as strict as you perceive me to be, Maya." Edgeworth retorted. Ema on the other hand just giggled.

"You're so funny, Aunt Maya!" Ema chuckled. Edgeworth sweatdropped. He can already sense a dark foreboding with this dangerous duo...

"In any case, I'm so glad you could make it! Today, my cousin will finally get to show off the progress she made!" Maya gleamed.

"Your cousin?" Edgeworth repeated. "So you won't be the one conducting the channeling?" Maya shook her head.

"Nah. I was supposed to originally, but Iris was so insistent on being the one to do it. I guess she really wanted to show off what she could do." She explained. Edgeworth crossed his arms in thought.

"(Iris, huh...?)" Edgeworth thought. "Do you know the story behind this case, if I may ask?" Maya flashed a grin.

"Behold, the power of the Maya Intelligence Network!" She said, whilst striking a pose. "Let's see... 14 patients died due to malpractice on Dr. Grey's part, right? And in order to hide her involvement, he killed her in what appeared to be an accident?" Edgeworth and Ema looked at her with amused expressions, while Phoenix looked exasperated.

"Uh... I'm kinda questioning this 'Maya Intelligence Network'... Mind explaining what it is, exactly?" Phoenix deadpanned. Maya chuckled.

"The tabloids." She said simply. Phoenix groaned.

"I knew it." Maya pouted at her boyfriend.

"Aw, come on I was just kidding." She said. "I wouldn't allow crazed killers into this village, nor would I allow them as a client. That's too scary, even for us mediums."

"(Hm, that's fair I suppose...)" Edgeworth mused. Edgeworth took a brief look around the village. "So this is Kurain Village, eh?"

"Uh huh! You like it?" Maya inquired.

"It's certainly beautiful, that's for sure." Edgeworth commented. Ema jotted down notes in her notepad.

"My scientific research of this place says that everyone that lives here are spirit mediums, right?" Ema asked. Maya nodded in confirmation.

"Yep. Most of my ancestors were, I think. Although, the ability to commune with the dead is only inherent in the women of the village." She explained.

"So what do the men do?" Edgeworth asked.

"They usually work outside the village." Maya explained. She looked at her watch, and then turned back to the group. "Well, I have to go help prepare for the channeling. Why don't you guys come inside the Fey Manor? Make yourself at home, and all that." Edgeworth turned to Phoenix.

"Are you going to help Ms. Fey?" Phoenix nodded.

"Yep. You guys go on ahead. We'll meet you later." Edgeworth nodded as Phoenix and Maya went inside to prepare for the channeling.

March 16

Fey Manor

Edgeworth and Ema entered the Fey Manor. To say it was big was an understatement. It looked big from the outside, the inside was even bigger. It was bigger than Edgeworth's house and office combined.

Once the two entered, they were greeted by a man who was wearing a grey suit, and green tie, had a mix of brown and white hair, and he was wearing glasses. "Hello. Who might you be?" The man asked.

"(This must be the aforementioned 'Dr. Grey' fellow.)" Edgeworth thought. "My name is Miles Edgeworth. I'm a defense attorney. And this is my daughter, Ema." Edgeworth explained. The doctor looked at them with a curious look.

"I see. What business does a lawyer have with a place like this?" He inquired, eyeing the two suspiciously. Edgeworth raised an eyebrow at that but regardless answered his question.

"My brother invited me. He's the Kurain Master's boyfriend, you understand." Edgeworth stated. The man still gave a look of suspicion but he more or less ignored them. He seemed to invested in what he was thinking about, anyhow. "So, from what I understand you are going to summon the spirit of the deceased nurse that worked at your clinic?"

"That, I will. It's going to be perfect, I tell you!"

"What are you gonna do once the spirit has been channeled?" Ema inquired, taking notes. The doctor ascertained a smug, yet unnerving grin.

"Yes, I'm going to have her write an affidavit taking blame! That way, everyone will know that the malpractice accident was all HER fault! With that, my clinic will finally start seeing patients again!" He smiled.

"I see... (This man certainly has a few screws loose...)" Edgeworth thought, attempting to hide his distaste. He was honestly starting to understand why the tabloids were suspecting this man of killing the nurse, although he would never admit it. "How did you come to hear of Spirit Mediums, may I ask?"

"Ah, I have an acquaintance that knows about all this occult business. She studies parapsychology at the college. And she told me that this place is home to the Kurain School of Channeling." Grey points to the door maniacally. "See that door? That's the channeling chamber. That's where the whole thing will take place!"

"I see..." Edgeworth mused. But by that point, Dr. Grey was already drowned in his own thoughts and muttering some random nonsense about how business is going to spark up, and so Edgeworth just decided to ignore him. He and Ema decided to look around the mansion for a bit, exploring the various areas, and at one point, they end up in the winding way.

Edgeworth looks around, whilst Ema takes in the fresh air. Then, Ema noticed a girl, watching them quietly. "Why, hello there! Nice to meet you. I'm Ema, what's your name?" The girl look frightened for a moment, before a voice was heard.

"Pearl!" The voice called. The girl then ran behind an old looking woman wearing a kimono. "Now, now, Pearl. What I have told you about following suspicious strangers?" The girl, Pearl her name was, muttered an apology whilst the woman ruffled her hair. Ema puffed her cheeks.

"Suspicious?!" She complained. The old woman narrowed her eyes at the young girl, eyeing her suspiciously.

"And who might you be, exactly?" Edgeworth steps behind and places his hands on Ema's shoulders.

"This is my daughter, Ema. My name is Miles Edgeworth." He stated. The woman looked at him for a brief moment before saying...

"Ah, yes... Mystic Maya has spoken of you. Quite highly, as well." She said. Edgeworth raised a mental eyebrow. For someone Maya speaks very highly of, this woman didn't seem to trust him all that much. "I am Morgan Fey, and this is my daughter Pearl. We are part of a Fey branch family." Branch family...? Oh, yes. He recalled that the Fey Clan is divided into the main family and the branch family. From what he understands, only those of the Main Family can become Master.

Or so Phoenix told him, in any case. "Please excuse me, we must prepare for my daughters first channeling session." Edgeworth ascertained a confused look.

"I thought Maya's cousin Iris was the one conducting the channeling?" He asked. The woman glared at him.

"You will refer to her as Mystic Maya, good sir!" She ordered. The tone of her voice made both Ema and Edgeworth flinch. This woman was certainly scary. "But yes, Iris is also a daughter of mine. She will be the one performing the channeling."

"Ah, I see." Edgeworth responded. So that must mean this woman was Maya's aunt. Morgan turned to the girl and took her by the hand.

"We will be leaving now, Pearl. We must prepare for your big sisters channeling." The girl nodded quietly and the two walked off.

"What a rude lady." Ema pouted.

"Is that because she called you 'suspicious'?" Edgeworth inquired. Ema hugged her father and looked up at him with a cute face.

"C'mon, Daddy! Who could think a cutie like me is suspicious?" She said innocently. He rolled his eyes and patted her on the head, as he can't really disagree with that. Then suddenly...

"Hey, you! Hold on now! This gal's got a few questions to ask!" Edgeworth's nose turned up at that. He knows he's heard that southern accent before. But where...?

Suddenly, a woman with puffy hair and green jacket walks up to him. "Well, I'll be! It's Mr. Miles Edgeworth!" She smiles at him. "How ya been?! It's been like, what, 4 years?!"

Edgeworth crosses his arms in thought. He KNOWS he's seen this woman before... "You... you're, um..." Edgeworth tried to recall where he had met this woman before.

And it struck him. 4 years ago, Edgeworth was in the defendant's chair himself, for the murder of a prosecutor and this woman was a witness in that trial if he remembers correctly. Her name was... "Er... Lotta... Hair, was it?" Edgeworth guessed, but that only served to anger the woman.

"H-Hey! Lotta Who?! You makin' fun of my hair?!" She exclaimed. Edgeworth adjusted his glasses.

"Forgive me, names have a slight tendency escape me at times." Edgeworth stated.

"Hm. You're one heartless man, Mr. Edgeworth." She responded sarcastically. "Alright, the name's Lotta. Lotta Hart. Don't go forgetting it!" She said.

"(Ah, Hart, that was it.)" Edgeworth thought. Then he noticed Ema glaring at the woman. Edgeworth raised an eyebrow. "Ema?" Ema stared at the woman for a brief moment before she said...

"I don't like you." She said bluntly. Edgeworth stunned by that, but Lotta was especially surprised.

"E-Eh?! The heck did I do to you, missy?!" She exclaimed. Edgeworth gave Ema a stern look.

"Now, Ema. That's not a nice thing to say." He said. Ema pouted.

"But Daddy! She almost got you arrested!" Ema argued.

"(Ahhh... Of course, now it makes sense.)" Edgeworth thought. This woman had initially testified against him, for some asinine reason to the effect of, 'wanting to be a 'gen-u-ine' witness to a murder' or something to that effect. Phoenix was defending him during that trial, and Ema made an outburst that Lotta hadn't actually saw what she claimed to have seen. "(I suppose it's not all that surprising that Ema is still upset about that.)" Edgeworth thought. Lotta rubbed the back of her head and gave a nervous smile.

"Ahh... S-Sorry about almost getting your Daddy-O sent off to the farlands, sweetie pie... But hey, let bygones be bygones right?" She said sheepishly. Ema blinked before looking at her father, who nodded and then turned back to Lotta.

"Hmm, okay, I forgive you. Just don't do anything like that again, okay?" Ema asked. Lotta nodded.

"Cross my heart, missy!" She said proudly.

"So what brings you here, Ms. Hart?" Edgeworth inquired. Lotta gave him a mischievous grin.

"What do you think, pretty boy!? I'm here for the big scoop!" She stated.

"So you're still a photographer, I take it?" He asked. She nodded whilst whipping out a camera.

"You betcha! The hardest working one out there, I reckon!" Said Lotta with enthusiasm. "Didn't I say I was gonna be the best 'paranormal photographer' there is?!"

"(No, not that I recall.)" Edgeworth thought sarcastically.

"Oh!" She yelled suddenly. "We shouldn't dawdlin' around here! We need to get goin'! The channeling is about to begin!" She stated. Edgeworth raised an eyebrow.

"Is it that time already?" Edgeworth had been busy exploring the Fey Manor with Ema he hadn't noticed.

"C'mon, folks! Let's get a move on!" Lotta said before running off, Edgeworth and Ema following behind.

March 16

Fey Manor

Meditation Room

"The channeling is about to begin!" Maya said enthusiastically. "Is Iris here yet?" Maya asked Phoenix, who was standing beside her.

"Yeah, Morgan said she was going to be bringing her along." He replied. So, Edgeworth finally gets to meet this Iris.

Suddenly, a door is heard opening and two women step out of it. One of them was Morgan Fey, the woman he had met earlier although her daughter Pearl didn't seem to be anywhere in sight.

But the sight of the other woman by her side made his blood run cold. "(It... It couldn't be...!)"

It was woman wearing a purple kimono, a strange necklace and what appeared to be a hood of some sort. But her face... And that hair... It... certainly couldn't be...

"(B-But... That's... impossible...!)" Edgeworth thought in terror. Dahlia Hawthorne...

Dahlia Hawthorne was dead! She was executed! And yet... The woman before him... Iris... She looked exactly like her! With... the exception of her hair, of course but that made no real difference... They were practically identical!

"(C-Could should be a channeled-? No, that's stupid... B-But... That makes no sense... How could... But...)" Ema looked at her father and seeing the fearful look his eyes made her worry.

"Daddy? Is something wrong?" Ema said with a concerned tone. Edgeworth looked down at her. She should remember. She was there in the gallery after all! But then... She was only 6 years old at the time. Of course she wouldn't remember. And it was also probably a day she'd prefer to forget, as well. After all... That's when...

Edgeworth, not being able to bring himself to remind her of that day said with a reassuring look... "It's nothing dear, I'm fine." Ema still seemed concerned but let the issue be for now. But it still lingered in Edgeworth's head...

It was impossible for this woman to be Dahlia Hawthorne. But if so, then who is she? Why does she look so much like her? He would have to ask her later, should he get the chance.

"Alright, Iris. Mr. Grey, please proceed into the channeling chamber." Maya requested. Dr. Grey grinned like a mad man, ranting about how he'll finally get those pesky flies off his back, and how they'll finally apologize him. He asked Phoenix if he'd love to hear them apologize and Phoenix nervously responded that he did.

"Iris, you've got the channeling chamber key, right?" Maya asked. Iris nodded.

"Yes, Mystic Maya." She said politely whilst showing her the key. "I have it right here."

"Very good, my daughter." Morgan praised. "That key is one-of-a-kind, so please take care of it." Iris nodded.

"Yes, mother. I promise." Iris turned to Dr. Grey. "Okay, Dr. Grey. Let us proceed." Dr. Grey nodded and followed Iris into the channeling chamber.

"Go get em, Iris!" Maya encouraged. Iris smiled back at her before closing the channeling chamber doors and locking them.

"Now, let's sit here and wait for them." Maya stated. Phoenix came and sat down with some plates in his hands.

"Who's hungry? I made burgers." Phoenix said as he sat down. Maya squealed and immediately grabbed a burger and chomped it down. Phoenix rolled his eyes and offered one to Ema and Edgeworth who accepted. He tried offering one to Morgan, but she refused. She wasn't really much into burgers, apparently.

"Hold on now, lady!" Lotta said, looking at Maya.

"What is it Lotta?" Maya asked. Lotta looked at her with an upset face.

"How come we ain't allowed in that room?!" She inquired. Morgan shot her a glare.

"Good madam! You will refer to the Master as Mystic Maya!" She ordered.

"Eek! Sorry!" Lotta yelled, frightened. Maya gave Morgan a soft look.

"Now, now, Aunt Morgan. No need for that." Maya turned to Lotta. "They need to be in peace so that everyone's safety is ensured during the channeling. Please try to understand, kay?" Maya stated simply. Lotta looked at her for a brief moment before sighing.

"*Sigh*... Yes ma'am..." Lotta relented. Edgeworth was surprised. Maya actually managed to shut her up! Impressive!

...

BANG!

Everyone suddenly jolted up at the sudden loud noise.

"H-Hey now! What was that?!" Lotta exclaimed.

"(It came from inside the channeling chamber...)" Suddenly, a second noise that sounded exactly the same as the previous one was heard. Edgeworth and Phoenix looked at each other, knowing full well what the sound was.

A gunshot. No doubt about it. "I-Iris is in there...!" Maya said worriedly. Ema looked frightened. Edgeworth looked down at his scared daughter before looking back at the door. "Ema, stay here!" Edgeworth said. Ema looked up at him surprised.

"Daddy? What are you-" Ema didn't finish her sentence as she was surprised to see Edgeworth throw himself at the door. He remembered that only Iris had the key, so he had no choice but to break down the door.

"G-Good sir!" Morgan said. "Please, calm down and-"

"No time!" Edgeworth interrupted. "We have to break it down! I'm sorry about this Maya. You can bill the Edgeworth Law Offices later!" Edgeworth stated. Maya nodded and Phoenix decided to help. The two men threw themselves at the door a few more times and finally, they were finally able to break it down.

March 16

Channeling Chamber

Edgeworth, Phoenix and Lotta all rushed into the scene, horrified of the sight that befell their eyes.

Dr. Grey. Dead.

A clicking noise was heard, but Edgeworth and Phoenix paid no mind as they were just shocked by the dead body.

"...I..." Edgeworth heard and he turned to see what appeared to be... Iris? It seemed to be her, but something about her seemed... Different.

"I-Iris?" Phoenix questioned. But she didn't meet his eyes.

"I... I... was murdered..." She muttered. "That man... murdered me... so... I killed... him..." She said. Edgeworth looked on in horror.

"W-What?!" He exclaimed. Suddenly, another clicking sound was heard, and Edgeworth turned to see Lotta taking pictures with her camera. He glared at her. "Ms. Hart! At a time like this?!" Edgeworth exclaimed.

"Times like this are perfect for snapping shots!" She fired back. "But what's going on here?! That gal... is she... that girl from earlier?!" She asked in confusion.

"Step away from there!" A voice called. It was Morgan Fey. Edgeworth and Phoenix turned. "Please leave this area to me. Take the master to safety and go and inform the police!"

"B-But...!" Edgeworth tried to argue, but Morgan interrupted.

"Hurry! Go! Before there are more victims here!" She said. Phoenix grabbed Edgeworth's arm.

"Come on Miles, I think for now it's better we do what Morgan says." He advised. Edgeworth looked at the scene before reluctantly agreeing to leave.

Just what was going on?!

Welp, here's the next one. In this universe, I decided to keep Phoenix as a defense attorney. The reason why is because having Edgeworth as a defense lawyer and Phoenix as a prosecutor is quite a common idea, so I decided to change things up a bit. So, I decided to keep Phoenix as a defense attorney, and to boot make him Edgeworth's adopted brother. After this story is finished, I may decided to make a 'Side Stories' kinda fanfic, elaborating more on the lore of this universe, although this fic is only on it's second case so it's too early to think of ideas like that, but it's something to keep in mind.

Welp, please leave a review.
