It was a quiet night when Fowler pulled out of an army base after a day at work.
"At ease, soldier," Fowler said to the soldier who saluted at him, saluting in return.
The gate rose and Fowler sped off to his house. Being a regular government agent was enough to drain the energy of any person. But being a government agent that is the liaison between the United States Government and the good team of intergalactic beings that are locked in a war that has spilled over onto their world? That's more exhausting than usual.
He turned his radio on and an instrumental version of the song 'The Touch' by Stan bush began to play through the speakers and he couldn't help but hum along. Tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, he allowed himself to get lost in the music and his worries to slip away. He could worry about them on Monday.
Bright headlights blinded him from behind. "Go around, you jerk," Fowler said as he casually waved his hand out the open window, thinking it was someone who was tailgating him by accident to get in front of him.
However, he didn't. Instead, he rammed into Fowler's car from behind. Gasping, Fowler performed a skidding 360-degree turn before coming to a stop. Looking up in shock, he quickly added horror to his list of emotions he was currently feeling. This was something that he was going to have a hard time believing.
"That's no road rage! Someone's trying to bump me off Fowler cried before realizing just who was making the life-threatening attempts, "Prime!?"
Was he hallucinating?
Or was Optimus Prime actually trying to bump him off the road?
Thinking quickly, Fowler immediately changed gears and sped away. His tires skidded against the road as he reversed a few feet before performing a 180-degree turn and racing away for his life. The truck continued to follow him, desperate to complete his mission. Fowler wasn't going to let that happen.
"Prime! Have you flipped your metal wig?!" Fowler screamed at him.
Completely oblivious to everything that was going on, everyone else was at base enjoying themselves. Jack, Miko and Raf decided to race each other with remote control cars. Jack was blue, Miko was red and Raf was yellow. Arcee, Bulkhead, Bumblebee and Chromette decided to take part as well as the cheering spectators. So far, Raf was in first place, Miko was in second place and Jack was coming last.
"Yes!" Miko said as she controlled her RC car with her controller while Raf chuckled.
"Go! Go! Go!" Jack exclaimed as he controlled his RC car.
"Metal to the pedal, Miko!" Bulkhead encouraged.
"Go, Jack! Go!" Arcee and Chromette cheered while Bumblebee buzzed, cheering Raf.
"No way! Raf's scorching us!" Miko decreed.
Suddenly Fowler contacted the base on the Cybertronian Computer system, "Prime?! Do you read me?"
"I'm sorry, Agent Fowler. Optimus isn't here at the moment," Ratchet politely told him.
"Then I'll take that as a confirmation that he's presently trying to run me off the road!" Fowler told them.
"Agent Fowler, that hardly seems likely," Ratchet said dismissing his claim.
"Tell that to my burning Treads!" Fowler retorted.
As they came up to the bridge, the truck was close to colliding with Fowler's rear bumper. When they were on the bridge, the truck pulled up next to Fowler and resumed his work. The truck collided with the side of Fowler's car and pushed him to the edge of the bridge. Sparks could be seen as the metal of Fowler's car grinded against the metal of the barrier of the bridge. When the truck eventually backed off, Fowler lost control of the car and crashed into the barrier. Like a seesaw, the car dangled at the edge of the bridge, dangerously close to falling into the gorge below.
"Come on! Come on…," Fowler gritted as he switched gears and tried to back up.
He grunted as the truck came forward and pounded Fowler, unbalancing his car even more,"Prime! No!" Fowler pleaded as he turned towards the truck.
A Ground Bridge opened nearby and Arcee, Chromette, Bulkhead and Bumblebee sped towards the scene. Like Fowler, they refused to believe what they were seeing. They were seeing a truck that looked like Optimus trying to knock Fowler over the edge of the bridge. However, they didn't have time to think about that. They immediately raced to action.
Seeing Fowler's car about to go over, Bumblebee jumped into action, immediately transformed into his robot form and jumped the few remaining feet between him and Fowler. Reaching downwards, he barely managed to grab Fowler's rear bumper before Fowler was lost forever. To prevent falling over himself, Bumblebee grabbed onto what was left of the barrier. Fowler cried in relief. Turning to Bumblebee, the relief was written all over his face as well. Sure. Fowler has had many close calls with his life before. But nothing like this.
"Looks like Optimus," Bulkhead observed as he, Chromette and Arcee transformed while the Optimus lookalike sped away.
"Primes don't run," Arcee retorted and turned to Chromette, "Coming Sis?"
"Sure, Arcee," Chromette answered as her sister transformed, she followed suit and chased after him.
Bulkhead immediately raced forward to pull Bumblebee and Fowler onto the bridge. However, more trouble happened. The rear bumper broke from Fowler's car. His cries could be heard as he fell front bumper first towards the gorge below. Luckily, Bulkhead wasn't about to let that happen. Jumping down, he managed to land in the gorge first and catch Fowler before any serious damage was made.
"You all right in there?" Bulkhead asked the special agent.
"At ease soldier," Fowler said as he sighed before grunting as an air bag deploys out from the steering wheel and hits him in the face.
Arcee and Chromette didn't know what to expect as they came to an abandoned part of town. There was no sign of Optimus anywhere, having lost him a few miles before. Slowing to a stop, they both used their headlights to search the abandoned gas station. Nothing. No sign of their commander, but they both couldn't help but wonder something.
What was going on?
The revving of an engine filled their audio receptors from a few miles beside them. Turning around, they were too much in shock to retaliate or defend themselves. Darkness immediately welcomed the twins as well as the burning sensation of pain that consumed them.
The next thing they knew, Ratchet was examining Arcee's optics with a flashlight back at base, "Yes, that's it. Follow the light," Ratchet said as Arcee both opened her optics from within the medical chamber, and Chromette woke up nearby and saw that they were back at base.
They both groaned as they both fully regained consciousness, "Wait. What?" Arcee cried when the words Ratchet said managed to sink in, "Not the best choice of words, Ratchet."
"How did we get back here?" Chromette asked as she stood up.
"We found you both knocked out cold at a gas station," Bulkhead explained, "And called for a Ground Bridge to get you both to the medical chamber."
"Thanks, Bulk," Chromette told the Wrecker.
"You're turn, Chromette," Ratchet said as he and Bumblebee helped getting Arcee out of the chamber and Chromette went into the medical bay and checked her up, "Your fine," he added as he looked at her vitals and she walked out.
"Arcee, Are you okay?" Jack asked the blue femme with worry
"Sure," Arcee answered, "Except for being blindsided by Optimus
Jack turned to Arcee's twin, "How about you, Chromette?"
Same as Arcee," she answered.
"Didn't I tell you?" Fowler exclaimed.
"Impossible," Ratchet scoffed with disbelief.
"I'm only reporting what I saw," Arcee defended herself.
"Me too," Chromette said, defending herself as well.
"Why would Optimus try to knock off Agent Fowler?" Jack asked.
"Maybe Optimus believes he's a Decepticon all over again?" Raf suggested.
"Or he's been faking being a good guy all this time," Miko added.
"If Prime has gone off the rails for any reason, we have a serious problem," Fowler proclaimed.
"This is absurd. A quick check for Optimus' signal will reveal that he was nowhere near the location of tonight's incident," Ratchet said as he walked over to one of the Cybertronian Computer systems to check, "In fact, he's just returning now."
Everyone watched warily as Optimus returned into the base and transformed. Optimus was confused. What was going on?
"Is something wrong?" Optimus asked.
"We were just...wondering where you've been," Arcee answered.
"We haven't been able to reach you," Bulkhead added.
"I have been outside of our communications range…" Optimus answered, causing Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Arcee and Chromette to activate their blasters and point them at him.
"Whoa!" Arcee cried.
"Easy!" Bulkhead chided.
Fowler immediately pushed the kids behind his body to protect them in case Optimus did anything rash.
"In a subterranean Energon deposit," Optimus finished.
"Do you have proof of this?" Chromette asked, "if you do then show us!"
Optimus pulled out a glowing energon shard, causing Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Arcee and Chromette to look at each other.
"Come on. It's our guy. Can't you tell," Jack asked, dryly.
They deactivated their blasters and transformed them back into their servos, while Bumblebee's went back inside his arms.
"We're sorry," Arcee apologized.
"Don't blame them, Prime," Fowler said, "I was attacked earlier tonight out on the open highway by a big rig, one that bore a striking resemblance to you."
"It looked like a desaturated version of you," Chromette added, "but I have a feeling that M.E.C.H was behind this."
The big rig was driving down the same highway Fowler was driving on drove towards the military base.
"Halt!" the soldier cried.
Two honks were the only warnings given. The soldier dove out of the way as 'Optimus' smashed through the barrier preventing access to the base. Once inside, he began smashing helicopters, causing soldiers to run for their lives. Military police cars and helicopters surrounded him as he came to a stop.
"This is a restricted area. Exit the vehicle, or we will open fire," a voice ordered the truck from a comm system.
When nothing happened, two soldiers moved forward cautiously. When they reached the door, they swung it wide open and cocked their semi-automatic M4 carbine rifles at the cab. To their surprise, there was no one behind the steering wheel. Wait. This truck drove itself into a restricted military base and destroyed their helicopters?
Their suspicions were answered as they witness the truck transform into a Cybertronian being. One that very closely resembled the Cybertronian being they entrusted their fates with.
"I am Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, and I bring you this message," 'Optimus' said as he transformed his right servo into his ion blaster, charged it before firing it at them.
Back at the Autobot base, Fowler was getting a phone call, "Fowler," he said as he answered it and put it on his ear, and couldn't believe what he was hearing, "What?! That's not possible. I can tell you sure as there are 50 stars on my Star-Spangled shorts it isn't him." He turned back around as it put his phone back in his pocket, "Alden military base is under attack by Optimus prime."
"The Truck?" Jack asked.
"The 'bot," Fowler corrected and everyone looked at Optimus with confusion, who looked confused as well.
"Fire! Fire!" soldiers cried as they struggled to return fire.
Fires were sprouting all over the place as soldiers desperately searched for cover. Having fought alongside the Autobots for years, they knew how deadly their firepower was. They didn't want to be at the receiving end of that blaster. There seemed to be no stopping from the imposter's rapid gunfire. That is until a Ground Bridge portal appeared and Optimus, Arcee, Chromette, Bulkhead and Bumblebee stepped out. Realizing that more trouble was underway, 'Optimus' made a hasty retreat. However, the damage had already been done.
"There. They brought reinforcements. Resume fire!" one soldier from the three helicopters approaching them instructed.
The five Autobots barely managed to avoid being struck by a missile.
"Autobots, return to base. We must not inflict human casualties," Optimus instructed.
Everyone turned to run for their lives as the military continued their fire. One of the weapons they fired was a missile. The Ground Bridge portal barely had time to shut before the missile made impact. Luckily for the Autobots, they survived.
However, it will only get worse.
"No, General Bryce. Optimus Prime did not attack our boys. Because I was with Prime when I received the alert," Fowler said as he was on his phone with one of his superiors, "Yes, sir. The Autobots were at your base, but only in response to the initial attack. But, sir, I- Yes, sir. I understand," he then hung up the phone.
"So, what's the damage?" Jack asked.
"All military personnel are under strict order to destroy and all 'bots on sight," Fowler sighed as he announced this.
"Are you kidding?!" Jack said with disbelief.
"But th-they're innocent," Raf stuttered as he protested.
"Optimus was framed!" Miko added.
"Though unfortunate, the military order changes nothing. Our imposter clearly poses a grave threat to humanity," Optimus told them.
"A 30 foot tall transforming imposter," Fowler added, causing everyone to figure out what they meant.
"They actually did it. Those butchers managed to crack the code," Ratchet snarled.
"M.E.C.H," Optimus growled.
"It seems I was correct," Chromette said, "I had a feeling it was them."
From his controls, Silas controlled every aspect of the transforming imposter from a sit-down driving cockpit, like those at arcades. The steering. The speed. The transformation. Everything related to this clone. With a press of the button, the imposter transformed and shut down before him. Behind Silas, a M.E.C.H surgeon approached the control systems.
"Sir, any parallax or latency issues?" The M.E.C.H surgeon asked.
"The telepresence interface performed flawlessly," Silas answered happily as he stood up from his seat, "In vehicular and robot mode."
"M.E.C.H abducted Breakdown and by all indications, deconstructed him from cranial chamber to heel strut," Ratchet said as they were discussing how M.E.C.H was able to create their own Cybertronian.
"I was there," Bulkhead reminded them.
"And we know that, more recently, they obtained Starscream's T-Cog," Optimus said.
"Which they evidently installed in a knockoff of you," Arcee added.
"Which in turn, scanned an appropriate vehicle form," Ratchet went on.
"Fill the tank with energon," Jack said.
"And say hello to 'Nemesis Prime,'" Miko finished, naming the imposter that looked like Optimus.
"So, Where do we start? M.E.C.H's base could be anywhere," Fowler pointed out.
"Not necessarily. While M.E.C.H may have learned much of our biology," Optimus began.
"They haven't necessarily absorbed our technology," Ratchet finished as he walked over to the Cybertronian Computer system, a diagram of Nemesis Prime, the location of where they encountered him on a map as well as a picture of his head, appeared on the monitors above as he typed on the Cybertronian keyboard, "Without access to a Ground Bridge, Nemesis Prime would rely solely on its vehicle mode for transportation."
"Chances are the M.E.C.H base is within driving distance of both incidents," Arcee realized.
"What are we waiting for?" Fowler asked as he pounded his fist into his palm, "Let's get out there and mash M.E.C.H's little science project."
Agent Fowler, I do not think it advisable to put yourself in harm's way of M.E.C.H's robot again," Optimus protested against Fowler going with them.
"Well, I'm not sure it's advisable for 'bots to be running recon with the military out there gunning for you," Fowler retorted.
"We will maintain vehicular cover until absolutely necessary," Optimus promised.
With those words said, the four Autobots went out on recon searching for M.E.C.H's base.
However, the task was easier said then done.
"Nothing but tumbleweeds," Bulkhead observed.
"Just a whole lot of empty," Arcee reported.
"I haven't found anything as well," Chromette said as she reported in with her comlink.
Bumblebee buzzed as he neared an abandoned factory and pulled up towards the factory.
"Bumblebee, proceed with utmost caution. Reconnaissance only. We will rendezvous with your coordinates," Optimus said on Bumblebee's comlink.
Bumblebee obeyed Optimus as he proceeded with extreme caution.
However, that didn't stop the scout from being picked up by M.E.C.H's scanners.
"The Autobots are persistent. Time to meet their match," Silas smirked as he saw Bumblebee on the screen in front of him, driving forward and he activated Nemesis Prime with his controls.
Bumblebee transformed as he hid behind some large cylinder buildings and walked stealthily until he heard a voice call his name and activated his blasters as he turned around and looked at Nemesis Prime.
"Bumblebee. Be on your guard. My double could be anywhere," Silas said, using Nemesis Prime, pretending to be Optimus as he approached the scout. Bumblebee buzzed a reply, "I'm sorry, what?"
As he heard Nemesis Prime say this, he knew that he was facing Nemesis Prime and started shooting at him with his blasters, Nemesis Prime simply evaded the shots from Bumblebee before going towards the scout and started punching him before he kicked him backwards with his knee, causing Bumblebee to fall unconscious. Standing over him, he was satisfied with his work. He knew that Bumblebee wouldn't be rejoining the fight anytime soon.
"Bumblebee. Do you read?" Optimus said trying to contact Bumblebee as he, Bulkhead, Arcee and Chromette arrived at the factory, but only got a static response.
"Fan out?" Arcee suggested as they all transformed their servos into their blasters.
"And beware of anything that might resemble me," Optimus told them as they started to walk away splitting up.
Bulkhead travelled in between many building searching for Bumblebee and M.E.C.H. He remembered what happened during their past encounters with M.E.C.H. Specifically, Silas. He didn't want déjà vu to occur. However, that wasn't going to stop déjà vu.
Hearing a sound, Bulkhead turned around…only to be attacked from behind. Sparks flew between them as they tried to pound each other into scrap metal. However, Silas managed to land the most hits and Bulkhead went down crashing in a heap. Once again observing his work, Silas was satisfied.
Arcee knew firsthand what M.E.C.H was capable of. Remembering what happened with her, Jack, June, Airachnid and M.E.C.H, she couldn't allow herself to fall victim again, As she kept hiding for cover and hid behind a building. However, it wasn't up to her as Silas or Nemesis Prime, noticed where she was hiding. She screamed out as a shot hit her in the side and knocked her down. She fell unconscious instantly. Silas couldn't help but be satisfied at taking down one of the two female autobots of Team Prime.
Just like Arcee, Chromette kept looking in each directions, looking for the sign of either Bumblebee or Nemesis Prime. She hid behind a Building like her twin, only to get spotted and as Nemesis approached her, she jumped backward with agility as she noticed Nemesis Prime approaching her and started shooting at him only for Nemesis Prime to run up towards her pick her up and threw her across the ground, causing her to fall unconscious like Bumblebee, Bulkhead and her twin.
"If I can isolate the control frequency of the remote link Silas is employing, I should be able to pinpoint his exact position," Ratchet said as he attempts to find where Silas was controlling Nemesis Prime from with the Cybertronian Computer system.
"Remote link?" Raf repeated in confusion.
"You didn't think M.E.C.H possessed the ability to build a completely autonomous robot, did you?" Ratchet scoffed with disbelief.
"I was hoping that Silas would be operating the bot from inside. Because one punch from Bulkhead and Booya!" Miko said as she fell back to the floor in her demonstration before standing back up, much to everyone's amusement.
"Ratchet is there someway for a human to become a Cybertronian?" Jack suddenly asked.
"I'm not sure, Jack," he answered, "Why do you ask?"
"'Cause lately, I've been wanting to become one of your species," Jack admitted.
"I think I know why jack wants to become one of your species," Miko said, "Jack is in love with Arcee!"
"Miko, how did you know?" Jack asked, feeling embarrassed.
"Isn't it obvious? I've noticed the way you look at her," Miko answered.
"Okay, I have a crush on Arcee and want to become a cybertronian so I can be with her," Jack admitted, "Can we all keep this a secret till I tell her?"
They all agreed to keep it a secret till Jack could tell Arcee while Ratchet promised him that he'll research to find a way for Jack to become a Cybertronian.
"A-ha! Frequency isolated!" Ratchet cheered as he pinpointed where Silas was controlling Nemesis Prime from.
"Then reopen that bridge," Fowler instructed.
"Agent Fowler, did you not hear Optimus advise against your involvement? It's for your own safety!" Ratchet objected.
"Look, Doc. I don't plan on dancing with any 'bots, but there's a human element in play here, and in case you haven't noticed, I happen to be a highly-trained, government-grade human," Fowler retorted.
"Yeah! Plus, Silas tried to run him off the road. It's personal," Miko pointed out.
Optimus transformed his servo back into his blaster as he continued to look around and soon came face to face with Nemesis Prime.
"Optimus Prime. We meet again," Silas smirked.
"The deception ends here, Silas,: Optimus decreed as he held his blaster to the face of Nemesis Prime.
"Does it?" Silas retorted as he transformed Nemesis Prime's servo into a blaster before charging at Optimus.
They began to fire on one another as Optimus evaded the blaster fire from Nemesis Prime, as they approached each other Optimus punched him as they started fighting with their fists.
A Ground Bridge opened nearby and Fowler jumped through the portal. He felt like he was going to throw up as he covered his mouth with one hand and had the other on his stomach.
"I think I'm gonna toss the breakfast I ate back at flight school," Fowler said as the feeling of throwing up within him dissipated.
Suddenly he heard the sound of metal slamming against each other and as he looked to his left, he saw Optimus and Nemesis Prime locked in an intense battle.
Ringing from his phone distracted him, causing Fowler to pick it up, "Agent Fowler, the control frequency is transmitting from a structure 100 meters due north," Ratchet told him on the phone.
"Copy that," Fowler said as he turned around looking at the building and hung up before going towards the building.
The swords of Optimus and Nemesis Prime clashed with each other, Optimus then kicked his double into a power generator, and an explosion ignited. However, it wasn't enough to dismantle Nemesis Prime, much to Silas' pleasure. But it was enough to distract a M.E.C.H insurgent that was on a balcony nearby. Feeling something on his shoulder, he turned around and came face to face with Fowler. Before he could even react, he was knocked out with a punch.
"My robot chassis possesses all your strength, speed and firepower," Silas said as he continued to fight Optimus, controlling Nemeses Prime and transformed his servos into blasters and started to shoot him, which Optimus evaded and tackled Nemesis Prime to the ground. However, Nemesis Prime simply tossed him aside. "Add my extensive combat training, and M.E.C.H has clearly achieved the perfect meld of man and machine."
As Optimus punched Nemesis Prime a few times, the duplicate skidded back, in front of a pipe, which he climbed as Optimus tried to shoot him, Optimus then climbed up, following Nemesis Prime.
As they reached the top of a Power generator, they both unsheathed their swords as they began to continue their battle. Nemesis Prime was stronger than Optimus, as Optimus' arms as his arms began shaking at the weak resistance of said strength. However, Optimus was quick to regain the upper hand in the battle. Unfortunately, the upper hand didn't last long.
His optics widened as he felt a sharp intrusion in his body. Quickly, he realized that Silas had struck his sword inside his body.
"But the key difference between you and me...My body can't feel pain!" Silas decreed as he struck his body deeper into his body, relishing in the cries of pain, "This is just the beginning. Imagine an army of transforming robots. No one will stand against the newly rebooted M.E.C.H."
"Think again Si," Fowler told Silas from behind.
"Agent Fowler in the flesh at last," Silas said as he got off the seat, ready to fight the special agent.
"And I'm pulling the plug on your video game," Fowler added, as he pounded his fist in his palm and went to punch Silas only to miss and get knocked to the ground, "Ex-military?"
"Special tactics," Silas answered, "You?"
"Army rangers," Fowler answered as Silas went to punch him, only for Fowler to evade the punches and punched him a few times.
"Retired, clearly," Silas observed dryly as he dodged more punches.
"I may be out of shape, but I don't need to bust you up," Fowler retorted only for Silas to kick him in the face, sending him backwards and M.E.C.H operatives surrounded him on all four sides, including Silas, "I just need to buy Prime a little time."
That was when Optimus realized that Silas wasn't controlling Nemesis Prime.
Silas heard beeping from the controls that he used when he controlled Nemesis Prime and towards the controls as Optimus started punching Nemesis Prime and as he pulled the lever, Nemesis Prime blocked the attack with his sword, but Optimus started to punch his duplicate, causing Nemesis to skid backwards and the controls then stopped responding after blocking the punch.
"No. No!" Silas gasped as the controls stopped responding.
Optimus kept on punching Nemesis Prime until he fell onto the roof beneath them. Jumping up, Optimus clamped his hands together and landed on top of him. Managing to back away in time, he saw the nonresponsive body of Nemesis Prime fall through the roof.
Silas was frozen in place by horror as he Looked up, and saw his perfect creation falling down with nothing stopping him. He was going to be crushed.
"No! No! No!" Silas cried out with fear.
Fowler and the M.E.C.H operatives ran away as Nemesis Prime finally landed on the ground. His yellow optics deactivated as he crushed the controls that operated him and Silas.
"Oh!" Fowler yelled as the smoke cleared.
"Agent Fowler?" Optimus said as he saw Fowler inside the building.
They suddenly heard the sounds of Helicopters flying towards them from a distance, "That would be our boys. I advise you to get back to base, Prime. I'll handle Uncle Sam," Fowler assured him as the military order was still in place.
The Next day, Miko was standing next to Bulkhead, on the catwalk after about every Autobot had their injuries tended to while Optimus was being tended to, "So, how weird was it to see someone who looked exactly like Optimus knocking the scrap out of you?" Miko asked the wrecker.
All Bulkhead did was groan.
"It's a sight I won't soon forget," Arcee remarked.
"You and me both, Sis," Chromette said, agreeing with her sister.
"The question remains whether M.E.C.H will continue to function as we know it without its leader," Optimus said as Ratchet finished patching Optimus up with one of his medical tools that his servo transformed into.
"Well, here's the kicker. We sifted through the wreckage with a fine-tooth comb and couldn't find any trace of Silas," Fowler said on the monitor of the Cybertronian computer system.
At an undisclosed location, M.E.C.H had Silas on a gurney, connected to life support as he was barely alive.
"The internal damage to his organs is massive and beyond the scope of conventional medicine. Fortunately for our leader, M.E.C.H is anything but conventional," a M.E.C.H surgeon said as they began to hook their leader into a familiar dismantled Cybertronian body.
And that body that they were hooking Silas up to once belonged to Breakdown.
Next is either Grill or Armada, and how should I turn Jack into a Cybertronian as he will in this story, but I'm not sure how to turn him into one.
