Extra- 2: A Warrior's memory 2

ELYSIAN REALM – 2018(Current Era)

As Raiden Mei was exploring the realm, something shiny catches her attention

"What's this?"

As she lifted it up, she saw what it was. A cufflink, and a quite exquisite one at that. Looking at the cufflink made her remember Chiba academy for some reason, was it the colour scheme of the cufflink? Maybe. Remembering those blissful days when everything was so simple brought a small smile to her lips.

But who could this cufflink belong to? As if by some divine intervention her heart knew the answer, so she made her way to the man. When she arrived at the main hall, she saw him standing there with the same stoic expression.

'He will look so good smiling' Mei thought as she made her way to him. She wanted to see him smile at least once. This wish was more for her own rather than for him as seeing him smile would mean she succeeded and that mattered the most to her. Halting this train of thought as she approached him, she spoke:

"This is yours, right?"

She brought out the cufflink for him to see. He was silent however.

"…"

"Kevin, we are in a space of consciousness, you can't deny your connection to it."

After being silent for a while he finally spoke:

"…Where did you get it?"

"The same way I got everything else here."

"Please take it. My arm is growing sore." Mei joked lightly.

"Keep it."

Mei was shocked, if it appeared in this realm then it held a special place in his heart; then why was he giving it away.

"...You sure? The fact that it's found here means it must be important to you."

"Looks like a cufflink. Is it from a friend? Or, does it have some other special meaning to you?"

At this he was quiet again for some time, before he began:

"I said I wouldn't keep you in the dark, but that doesn't give you the privilege to pry into my personal matters."

"I don't want to waste my time on this. You should ask the real me. Maybe he'd be interested."

Hearing this Mei was saddened a little. She was sure that his real-world counterpart's heart had been frozen to the extent that he wouldn't even remember such a thing. She wanted to thaw him, to heal him from his wounds and pain but she was sure that she couldn't do it alone. So, for now she could only do two things: to learn more about him and to stay by his side. Thinking thus she said:

"That's impossible, Kevin. From what I saw, he has become an ice block of obsession and silence that resists any warmth."

"I doubt this cufflink would appear here if a new sim of him was created right now."

"Well, then he is the same as me." he said with a tone of finality.

"Onii-chan, Happy Birthday. Here *****'s present for you, ***** hopes you will like it."

Kevin opened his present to see a pair of shining new cufflinks.

"You didn't have to do this for me *****."

"hehe… ***** wanted to gift it to you for telling you best of luck in your new school too."

"Thank you, *****." he said patting her head.

"Hey, that looks nice, from where did you get it?" Su asked

"My sister gifted it for my birthday." Kevin said while caressing it with a hint of fondness in his eyes.

"That so, must be nice to have such a caring sister then."

"Yeah…"

The air was thick with dirt and soot, it was suffocating everything and covering it with a layer of black. The city was destroyed fully by the vines that had grown out of nowhere, killing all those who touched it. It was as if those vines were the plants of the underworld that thrived on the human soul. The vines had beautiful white lilies growing from them, which had a red centre, perhaps from the blood of its victims.

At the centre of such a destroyed city lay a girl stabbed through her stomach. Her blood was flowing slowly forming a pool around her. Kevin was standing over her, sword in hand covered with blood, her blood. He knew he had to end this now, it was his duty but his hands didn't move. He threw the sword away and knelt beside the girl hugging her. Feeling him hugging her the girl spoke:

"I'm sorry onii-chan, ***** was a bad girl."

"It's not your fault."

"he…he.. you… always… say…that…to…*****…"

Kevin didn't say anything and kept hugging her. The girl's breathing was growing shallower by the moment, indicating that she didn't have much time left. As she roamed her eyes to see her Onii-chan's figure for the last time, her eyes fell on the cufflink on his arms. Noticing it she said:

"You… still…have…that…"

Her voice was faint and her breaths were laborious. Her voice showed a hint of the extreme pain she was feeling now. However, one wouldn't be able to notice it with the serene expression and the smile she had on her face now. Hearing her question, Kevin answered in the gentlest tone that she had ever heard him speak:

"It was your gift, was it not?"

"Hmm… you… loved…blue…" the girl said weakly. She felt her consciousness drifting away from her body and knew that their time together had come to an end. However, she didn't regret anything and the days she spent as his little sister were the happiest in her life. There was one regret however, after she is gone her beloved Onii-chan will become alone again; and knowing him, he will try to bear this pain all alone again. This she didn't want to happen, thus she had to make it somehow that he won't be alone in the days to come. Thinking this she started to speak with all the remaining embers of strength she had:

"Hey… Onii-chan…will…make…promise"

Kevin nodded and looked at her. She looked at him and said with all her remaining strength:

"Please…be….hap..py, ****..will…be..for..ever….wi…th….you…."

As she said this, her breathing became extremely faint and finally stopped. Even though she had numerous wounds on her body and her blood flowed and pooled around her, she had a serene smile on her face. She looked like a fairy at that moment with her expression. Kevin just hugged her tightly and said two words:

"I'm sorry."

The rain started falling, washing away everything. But her blood on his hands will never fade away. Kevin looked at her while a lone tear fell from his eyes. He felt something inside him crack, something that will not be fixed till the end of time.

To the world that day, Kevin killed the Sixth Herrscher and brought a great win for humanity. But for him, he had killed his only little sister, with his own two hands.

His little sister died that day and a part of him that was still living died along with her.

The rain fell and fell.

Noticing the faraway look in his eyes, Mei realized that he wasn't going to elaborate further on this. So, she left him alone; but when she saw his eyes she saw raw pain, as if he lost something irreplaceable to him.

Her heart broke again after seeing this expression on his face. She ran away and when she found a place secluded enough, she let her tears fall. Seeing Kevin like that hurt her more than anything, but what could she do when he didn't say anything?

"...Why do you never talk about yourself and what happened to you?" Raiden Mei said to herself as her tears fell for the man who lost even the right to cry.

Hello everyone, welcome back to 'A Warrior's Destiny'.

So, this extra is a glimpse of what is going to come. The Honkai verse is never kind to its heroes and that goes double for Kevin. Killing those close to him will make any man an ice block. Expect more depression to come in the following chapters, because it is a Honkai story that you all know goes hand-in-hand with depression.

As always if you enjoy the story please leave a follow, favourite and/or review.

Thank you for reading, until next time.
